David Fisdale recently opened up about his tough time coaching the New York Knicks starting in May 2018. He replaced Jeff Hornichek and took over a week roster missing at Star due to injury. Fisdale agreed to tank that season, leading to a league where 17 wins and 65 losses. The Knicks hope for the top draft pick, but fell to third, selecting RJ Barrett from Duke. Barrett played four and a half seasons in New York before a trade to Toronto, where he still averages around 18 points a game. The plan hinged on landing big free agents like Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving that summer, but it fell through. Without stars, the 2019-20 season roster mixed veterans and young players with no clear fit, starting Fisdale 4 and 18 before. His firing.
