About this episode

“First Flight” by Steve Adams

We all have defining moments in our lives. Soon after graduating

university, I was managing the power distribution project for a large

chemical company. It was February and the need arose to make an in

person visit to the design firm in another state.

After fighting snow and a previously canceled flight, I made my way to

the airport to catch the last flight of the day. Being new to airline

nuances, I managed to get checked in and cleared security. My next

challenge was finding the gate and soon after, my seat. I was nervous

and excited as we pushed back and clearly anxious as we were cleared

for takeoff.

It was then that the gentleman next to me realized it was my first flight.

He smiled as he told me the best part was about to take place. With

that advice, excitedly I heard the engines spool up and the skin pull

back on my face as we raced down the runway. From that moment, I

was hooked, and the world lay before me.
