Fire Destroys Home, Kills One in Lakeland

Polk County Fire Rescue Crews rushed to the scene around 9.48 a.m. and arrived just two minutes later. They found flames spreading through several rooms and quickly got to work. One person was already outside the house and rushed to a nearby hospital. Firefighters launched a search inside amid the heavy smoke and fire. Sadly, they discovered another victim who did not survive. Fire Chief Sean Smith called the scene tough for everyone involved. He praised his team's fast action and knocking down the blaze and checking for anyone trapped. The department extended condolences to the family and wishes for a full recovery to the injured person. Crews had the fire under control by 10.29 a.m. One firefighter picked up minor injuries during the intense effort but nothing serious.
