Filling the Vacuum Left Behind by Religion with a Love for Science

About this episode

Bertha Vazquez is an educator and advocate for reason and science. Despite 13 years of Catholic schooling Bertha had a "reverse road to Damascus moment" in her early teens, questioning the sexism and contradictions in her faith. Science soon became her guiding principle. A retired middle school science teacher with 34 years in Miami-Dade County Public Schools, Bertha now directs education at the Center for Inquiry, leading a nationwide network of teachers. Bertha will share her journey of deconversion and the power of science, reason, and critical thinking in shaping a meaningful worldview.
