Fatal Rollover Crash on I-20/59 in Birmingham

Two people died in a roll over crash late Friday night on Interstate 20 slash 59 in Birmingham's Inslee area. The car veered off the road near the Bush Boulevard exit around 1047 pm, tumbled down a wooded embankment, struck a tree, and stopped. Near Avenue T and 19th Street. First responders from Birmingham Police and Fire Rescue rushed to the scene with lights flashing. They tried to free those trapped inside the badly damaged sedan, but couldn't because of its wrecked condition. The victims were pronounced dead right there. There were early radio reports suggesting up to four people might have been in the vehicle. Crews searched the woods between Bush Boulevard and 19th Street for anyone ejected, but found no other victims. A wrecker pulled the car out later and Fire Rescue returned just after 1am to recover the bodies. Officials say more details could come as the investigation continues.
