Explosion at South Korea Factory Kills 14, Injures 59

Rescue teams in South Korea recovered the remains of 14 people from the wreckage of an auto parts factory in the city of Daejeon after a massive explosion and fire. The blaze broke off Friday afternoon at the Anjun Industrial Complex, injuring at least 59 others with 25 in serious condition. Over 500 firefighters, police and emergency workers rushed in to battle the flames and search for victims. Six smoke forced some workers to jump from the building to escape, leading to broken bones and smoke inhalation injuries. Officials used unmanned robots to cool the unstable structure before entering. Nine of the dead were found in a gym on the third floor, and three others near a water tank on the second floor. All missing workers have now been accounted for, with 28 still hospitalized and four having undergone surgery. South Korean President Lee Jae-mi-young visited the site Saturday to meet with families and push for extra safety steps during cleanup, as crews work to, prevent further collapses.
