Exodus 25: Tabernacle Instructions Bible Study

Exodus 25 records God’s instructions to Moses for constructing key elements of the Tabernacle, a portable sanctuary where God would dwell among the Israelites. The chapter begins with God commanding Moses to collect a voluntary offering from the people—materials like gold, silver, bronze, fine fabrics, wood, oil, spices, and gems (vv. 1-9)—to build this sacred space. The detailed plans then focus on three furnishings:

1. The Ark of the Covenant (vv. 10-22): A gold-covered acacia wood chest with rings and poles for transport, topped with a mercy seat and two cherubim. It would hold the tablets of the covenant and serve as God’s earthly throne, where He would meet and speak with Moses.
2. The Table of the Bread of the Presence (vv. 23-30): A gold-overlaid acacia wood table with poles, adorned with a rim and gold utensils. Twelve loaves of bread, representing the twelve tribes, were to be placed on it continually as a sign of God’s provision and presence.
3. The Golden Lampstand (vv. 31-40): A pure gold, seven-branched lampstand (menorah), hammered into an almond blossom design. It would illuminate the Holy Place, symbolizing God’s light and guidance.

These items foreshadow Christ: the Ark as the meeting place of God’s justice and mercy, the bread as Jesus the Bread of Life, and the lampstand as Christ the Light of the World.
