About this episode
Exodus 20 records God delivering the Ten Commandments to Moses on Mount Sinai after the Israelites' exodus from Egypt. God introduces Himself as their liberator and provides laws to govern their relationship with Him and each other. The first four commandments focus on devotion to God: worshiping Him alone, avoiding idols, honoring His name, and keeping the Sabbath. The remaining six address human relationships: honoring parents, and prohibitions against murder, adultery, theft, false testimony, and coveting. The chapter ends with the people trembling at God’s presence, asking Moses to mediate, and God instructing them to build an altar for worship.
