Ex-Teacher Denies Abuse, Claims Consent in Trial

The 1980s at Hobart matriculation College, the woman, now in her 60s, is suing both him and the state of Tasmania for failing to protect her. Noga admits they had sex twice after she graduated in turn 17, but insisted was consensual and enthusiastic on her part. During his testimony last Friday, Noga told the court he never forced himself on her and rejected claims of encounters on school grounds or in cars. He described himself as temporarily blinded by the relationship, which rekindled years later before he ended it to stay with his family. Noga expressed deep shame over his actions at the time, saying he did not view a relationship with a recent student as inappropriate back then. The legal battle has taken a heavy personal toll, leading him to confess to his wife of over 50 years and resulting in their divorce.
