Ex-Cop Banned for Life After Child Abuse Conviction

0:00On April 7th, a former Bristol Police Constable named Michael Elmer, 36 years old, just got banned for life from ever working and policing. A Gihin, he was convicted of making and sharing indecent images of children, pleading guilty to five serious charges back in February at Exeter Crown Court. Earlier this year, in May 2025, officers from the Internet Child Abuse team arrested him based on a tip. The charges included three counts of creating indecent photos or pseudo photos of kids, one for distributing them and one for sharing an intimate, image for sexual kicks. His colleagues and the public are reeling from the betrayal since he sworn oath to protect people, especially the vulnerable. Leaders say his actions shocked everyone and fell way short of the high standards cops are held to. Today, at an accelerated misconduct hearing, they ruled it gross misconduct, meaning he'd been fired on the spot if he hadn't already quit after. His suspension, now he's permanently barred from any law enforcement role.
