Essential Geopolitics: Cartels Target Mexico’s Luxury Beaches
About this episode
Mexico’s tourist resorts in the Baja California and Yucatan peninsulas have been long considered to be safe from the Cartel violence that has wracked other parts of the country. However, that reputation is in danger. Cartel violence is encroaching. One shocking incident occurred in November when 15 cartel gunmen arrived by boat outside two luxury resorts in Cancun to target drug dealers on the beach. Two drug dealers were killed and a tourist was wounded. Blake Laytham, Global Security Analyst at RANE discusses why this is happening.
