Essence Cody Leads Alabama to NCAA Win

0:00On March 22nd, Alabama women's basketball team opened the NCAA Tournament with a 68-55 victory over Rhode Island on March 21st, essence. Cody delivered a standout performance scoring 19 points, her most since early December. She nailed three three-pointers early on and shot six of eight from the field. Cody had dealt with injuries all season, including a knee problem that sideline her at the start of SEC play. By tournament time, though, she felt as healthy as ever, which boosted the team's confidence heading in. Coach Christie Curry praised Cody's recent practice sessions where she looks sharp and ready for the spotlight. As last year's all-freshman pick in a high school McDonald's All-American, Cody proved why she's a key piece for the Crimson Tide. Her outside shooting forced defenses to spread out, helping Alabama hit 57% from two-point range and create easy looks inside. The Tide made just four threes total on ten tries, but it was enough to control the game. As Cody bills momentum, Alabama gears up for the next round with a healthier, more balanced attack.
