Reform California with Carl DeMaio — Eric Swalwell Faces Harassment Allegations!. Machine-transcribed; use the interactive transcript above to jump the player to any line.
00A scandal emerges in the race for California Governor, this one focused once again on Eric Swahwell allegations that he harassed staff members and forced them into non-disclosure agreements. Coming up, we've got Eric Swahwell's response and how this might impact the California Governor's race. I'm not talking about just people on the right, let's be very clear. There are influencers on the left that have been posting this just as much as people on the right. I'm Carl Dimaio, chairman of Reform California and a California state representative and we're closely monitoring the California Governor's race and yet another controversy has erupted surrounding Eric Swahwell and of course I've said he is well I would consider him the leading candidate on the Democrat side right now but there's a lot of runway left on this race for California
01Governor. Earlier this week we gave you the update of Steve Hilton getting endorsed by President Trump and we noted that there are three main candidates on the Democrat side that right now are emerging from the pack. Eric Swahwell, Tom Steyer, the billionaire, and Katie Porter, that bat-length crazy insane Yahoo from Southern California. So we've got these three leading Democrat candidates that are trying to consolidate support and get into the runoff against presumably Steve Hilton who's also rising in the polls. The focus on Eric Swahwell actually I believe will help him consolidate support. You know the old adage, bad press is good press. The more that people are talking about Eric Swahwell, the more his name ID will increase.
06Remember Tom Steyer has $200 million. He's a billionaire. He can spend as much money as he needs to up his name ID. So anytime there's controversy around the candidate and people are talking about the candidate, it may actually benefit that candidate. And Eric Swahwell has been the subject of controversies for several weeks just a few weeks ago. We saw a big story emerge that the Department of Justice under Trump was considering releasing the investigation file into Eric Swahwell and allegations at a Chinese spy. Fang Fang infiltrated him, became a honey pot, and Swahwell was on the intelligence committee. I know a very awkward appointment for someone has done the Swahwell. But he was on the Intel committee getting secret information about all sorts of government programs, defense programs. And yet Fang Fang, this Chinese spy, was admittedly romantically involved
14with Swahwell. The FBI CIA, DOJ raised red flags all the way back in 2016. And no charges were brought. But a full investigation was not. When that came out, Swahwell very logically said, Trump is attacking me. And as I said last week in a podcast analyzing, they fall out on that allegation. It was going to help him. Another allegation, he doesn't live where he says he lives. He probably doesn't live there, likely doesn't live there. But he presided, he prevailed in court on the residency issue as I also explained on this podcast a few weeks ago that he was going to win that legal fight. We also have hundreds of thousands of dollars of questionable campaign expenses on his personal living, including six figures for daycare being paid to his wife. Daycare to my wife. Very questionable. Unfortunately, under the law, he's permitted to do that. Also
23enormous expenses from his campaign for personal security, lavish travel. Again, it stinks to high heaven. But he probably skates by with no criminal charges. But the allegations are out there. The evidence is out there that he's been using a lot of campaign funds for what most people would consider personal living. We know that his personal finances are completely a mess. He dramatically reduced his tax withholdings, demonstrating that there's probably some sort of cash crunch there. And look, he's a member of Congress. It's not like he's underpaid. So all that's out there. Most Democrats aren't going to care about that because he's fighting Donald Trump. Orange man, shining object destruction. That's how the Democrats can get around any of their bad policies or bad behavior. We've seen it across the board in the liberal media. Let's get away with it. So this latest allegation is quite interesting. It relates to Eric Swalwell allegedly to
28rassing staff members and then forcing them into NDAs. And this has been swirling for years. And in the past couple weeks on the internet, people have openly been talking about it and posting about it. These various influencers. And I'm not talking about just people on the right. Let's be very clear. There are influencers on the left that have been posting this just as much as people on the right. Here's one example. Brady Gillis. This is from April 7th. Anyone who has been in DC for five minutes knows this. It's actually wild. It took this long. Reposting from this account, Bad Ombre on April 6th, just in. Over a dozen former female employees and interns are preparing to come forward to accuse Eric Swalwell of inappropriate touching and harassment. We don't know if any of these claims are true. No one has stepped forward to put a name to a specific instance. Let's be clear about that. But what's interesting is that as all this is
30swirled, Swalwell has proactively come out and issued a denial. There's Politico. They have the exclusive. Swalwell campaign denies false outrageous claims of inappropriate behavior. He says it's all about MAGA conspiracy theories. No, no, no, no, no, let's be very clear. These claims are being promoted by people on the left. So it's not MAGA conspiracy theories. In fact, one of the people who have been raising the issue took on bridge of that. This is Cheyenne Hunt, a former Democrat congressional candidate. Quote smearing survivors with claims that they teamed up with MAGA is morally repugnant. These women are brave and deserve to be heard. Believe all women. We are working with legal counsel on the investigative team of a highly reputable outlet to ensure that these stories are told the right way. Okay. So what did Swalwell say? The allegations are that he had appropriately harassed
35that relationship with the staffers and interns and that he then forced them into NDAs to cover it all up. That's the allegation writ large that we know it because again, no one specifically has come forward. So it's hard to figure out what the actual application is. His statement, this false outrageous rumor is being spread 27 days before an election begins by flailing opponents who have sadly teamed up with MAGA conspiracy theorists because they know Eric Swalwell is the frontrunner of this race. Long and short of it, he's denies any inappropriate relation period full stop. That's a pretty clear cut. I did not do this. Now, remember, Bill Clinton, I did not have relations with that woman, Ms. Lewinsky. A couple of weeks later. Indeed I did. Again, but it is a clear cut denial. Also, denying any NDAs have ever been entered into.
38Well, let me be clear. It was that we've never asked anyone here as the quote. In 13 years, no one has ever been asked to sign an NDA ever. That was an out clause there. They were asked. Maybe they offered. I don't know. But it's a denial. In 13 years, not a single ethics complaint by any staff in his office or any other office has ever been lodged ever. Okay. The campaign does have NDAs to protect confidential materials. That's not unusual. Let me be trying to be as fair to this guy as possible even though he's not fair to President Trump or anyone else that he accuses of bad behavior. I'm trying to be as fair as possible, giving you the fullness of his denial. It's just odd that he comes right out and has this denial before any specifics are out. But let me tell you why it does make sense for him.
41Remember, as I said at the beginning, bad press is good press. And he can say they're attacking me because I'm fighting for you. And it probably works. In an era where we know that President Trump has been falsely smeared and accused of things and he's not done. Many voters on both sides shrug their shoulders and say, unless I see specific proof, it could be just a smear. It could be political opponents attacking with no foundation. It's going to benefit Eric Swallow. I believe he will continue to increase in the polls. Now here is the big change this week with Trump endorsing hope to. Democrats now are less cautious about attacking each other because and a lot of the interest groups are going to be less less inclined to just go along behind Swallow because they were all lining up behind Swallow. Why? Because they were afraid of a possibility of Republicans getting
42the top two. Now that Trump has endorsed Hilton. It's likely that Hilton may consolidate sport. We don't know. You know, he'll go still running in the race. He can still actually win. I'm not, you know, prejudicing either of those two Republican candidates. But Democrats are likely in the coming days and weeks to get a bit more choosy with who they're going to back for a governor because, well, if Hilton consolidates on the right, that means that we actually have a choice. We don't have to just all band together to get Swallow across the finish line. And that is literally what we were seeing happen in the governor's race in the past several weeks. As Democrats, some Democrats, I never agreed with their analysis of the data, by the way. I always thought the risk of the top two Republicans getting shut out was greater than Democrats getting shut out by far. But the unions and a lot of politicians were lining up behind Swallow to just make sure they got at least one Democrat to run off. The pressure to do
43that is going to be lessened. But what you're going to see is this latest smear, this latest allegation, whichever you'd like to call it, will probably help Eric Swallow. We're going to continue to cover the governor's race. We've not made an endorsement between Biago and Hilton. We do have our full plain English motor guide for all 58 counties. By the way, we found 90 sales tax increases or property tax increases hidden on the ballot throughout the state of California. Some of those tax increases may actually be hidden on your ballot.
