About this episode
Have you heard the expression "don't pick up the rope"?
I first came upon it in a book about codependency while supporting my son through his struggles with alcohol and addiction.
Time and time again, I found myself trapped in unproductive cycles, engaging in conflicts that led nowhere.
This expression encourages us to let go of the need to have the last word, and to instead prioritize our own well being and personal journey.
You might be thinking. What does this have to do with creativity?
Admittedly, it might not be an obvious connection. But on my walk to the studio, I was thinking how social media, our phones, and the limitless access to endless inspo can be a bit like the rope.
We can choose not to pick it up and to stay focused on our unique vision, calling, or creative path.
This idea might resonate with you or, perhaps, you, like me, simply needed a reminder that we don't have to pick up the rope in conversations that ultimately lead us nowhere. Just round and round.
Thank you always for listening.
And as always I’d love to hear your thoughts.
xx
