We're seeing something almost beyond what any any of us could ever imagine who watch the Sabers on a regular basis. I will say I will say this. It's like watching this team and how they play and how the teams assembled is what we've been talking about for many years when the team was struggling. The lack of team toughness, the lack of camaraderie, the lack of role players on the team. Yeah, you can have great offensive players, but you're not winning games with those guys unless you have players that support those guys in their positions. This team's built right now and is matured into one of the best hockey teams in the league.

6:07And they've got a they've got a great future ahead of them. With what I'm watching and when I talk a great future ahead of them, we go back to an Alex talk conversation. And I've been waiting for this player to sign a contract. His name's Nick Smoltz. If you don't know who he is, he plays out. Smoltz. Smoltz. Smoltz plays out in Utah. What's his deal? He signed a contract with Utah. He was an unrestricted free agent, very much like Adrian Kempe, very much like Alex Tuck. They're in the same boat. All three of them are very similar when it comes to somewhat games, played goals, assists. They're very indifferent natures. He signed a contract in Utah yesterday, eight years, eight years, eight million dollars. And you think to yourself, well, like I mean, is he as good as Alex Tuck? I don't know. He has 24 goals, 59 points in 65 games, 24 goals, 59 points

8:15in 65 games. Alex Tuck currently on the Buffalo Sabers in one last game has 28 goals, 57 points. So he has a few more goals, but less points in total. Because these guys have been very similar for many years. When you go and look at the point totals of Smoltz, when you look at the pointal of Kempe, they're all pretty much doing the same thing. So you have one player that signs for 10.625 in Los Angeles, and we were discussing this, why do you think LA went out and did that? Where was their pressure point in LA to get a deal position of power? Very much so. That's where I'm getting that. Go ahead. No, if you're going to get there, get there. Go ahead.

9:15I just mean, you know, because you're the one who brought it up to me. Kempe had the LA Kings by the balls. I mean, they're losing it. And I am asked, there you go. That's what I asked you for 10 million. He is a massive piece to that franchise has been since he got it. You're going to lose him to retirement. And if they let Kempe walk out the door, that's like losing jury, Embryer. Yes. That's what I'm talking about. They have very few stars on LA. They have Kevin Fiala, who makes $8.75 million or $7.875 million. He's a very good hockey player. He's 30 years old or 29 years old. You have Kopitar, who is retiring. He is the star. He is the face of that franchise. He's been that guy for many, many years. He's 38 years old. He's retiring. He's done. So in order, when you lose the face of your franchise, and then

10:17you have your other star in Adrian Kempe, certainly does not have the same name as Kopitar. You cannot lose these guys in the same or you're devastating your team. So they had to pay him. They had to pay him probably over maybe a little bit over market value right now because they don't have a choice. They don't have a lot of young up and coming players either. If they were to lose Adrian Kempe for nothing because he's an unrestricted free agent would be devastating to the LA Kings. And now here's the thing. Is that the same way here in Buffalo? That's the difference. It was. It would be if they're still in last place. I don't know if it's about being in last place. It's about it's about what you have. Well, remember we said. I hang Alex talked more money to stay here and never win. That was a quote that I made. Like you have to pay this player to stay here if you want him because

11:17he's never going to win here. Well, somehow there's been a drastic change in this team from the time I've said that. And now it's almost like that if you're you're signing here to win. So he could have the best of both worlds. He could be basically close to home. Being on a winner and a tremendous amount of positives. Now more so reason now from talk to come down off of his number. Then there is for him to hold it. What's down? What is his number? Well, somebody leaked out there clearly Kevin Adams leaked out before or just after he got shit can that his numbers that he's asking around campaign money. If not a little more or maybe it was a little more than 10.5. What's tank campaign 1065. 10 625 10 625. So that the rumor about talk was that he was over 10 and around 10 and a half. Okay. I'd be there too on this shit team back in the day with high taxes.

12:19No son. No chance of winning. I'd be like you have to you have to pay me more money to be here. Be miserable. Yeah, but that's a little different now. He's a critical piece to the lineup. So come down to me is nine and a quarter nine and a half. Who's more critical to the lineup Alex talk for the sabers currently right now? Or is it Adrian Kempay and the L.A. Kempay. You're losing your you're best defensive forward. Okay. You're losing a veteran team players that wears the logo like no one else because he's from Western New York. You're losing one of your top offensive players that scores that is proven not just a one time 30 goal score, but he's going to be a three time 30 goal score. He scored 20 goals multiple times.

13:19Okay. He's a goal score a playmaker and he's your best defensive forward. It is the easily replace replaceable. Absolutely not. I mean, you were not a better team if Alex talk signs elsewhere. You were not a better team. That being said, a lot of teams go through this. A lot of teams have to make decisions for the long term than just right now. Like they made a decision. Yarmul made a decision at the deadline this year to not trade Alex talk. Okay. He could have got a boatload for Alex talk. I mean, an absolute boatload for Alex talk, but he chose not to. He chose winning. He chose the fan base. And what I mean by that is the fan base needs this more than any team in the national hockey league to make the playoffs and rid that black cloud of not making the playoffs.

14:22They're going to rid that and we're not going to be talking about that anymore. We're not going to be talking about, oh, it's a 13 year drought, 14 year drought. No. Yarmul made a decision not to sell off Alex talk because they're not agreeing on contract. He agreed that he wants to make this team better, not weaker. So we're going into the end stretch of the year. We're going to make the playoffs. It's undeniable. And we're ridding something that this, this city, the fan base, the team, the players need more than anything. Now, here's the thing. If you lose Alex talk after the seasons over, is this team devastated? Is this team all of a sudden it's just going to fall and it's going to be in shambles? No. I don't believe that. Because I honestly believe that we have literally one of the very best defense cores in the league with superstars with Rasmus Dalline,

15:30Owen Power, Bowen, Byron, Matthias Jamilson, Kessel Ring. Maybe they have a ton of money to sign Stanley. That's that's the best six defense core in the league. Our younger players, guys like even Yari Kuli who has missed an entire season. He's still a major asset. Zach Benson, Donne, Osland, Peyton Krebs now at 25. Quinn now at 24 is elevating their play. They're still super young hockey players. If you lose Alex talk, it is going to hurt. There's no question, but it's not going to devastate the team because we still have players like Costa Hulanius. In the minors, who's a right-handed slash centerman that might be able to fill up his... He's not going to be able to fill Alex talk's position. But he's going to be a very good hockey player for decade after.

16:34So do you want Alex talk? Absolutely you want Alex talk. But I think the Sabers are looking at... They've got a lot of guys to sign behind Alex talk. You still have to sign Peyton Krebs, Malinstein. You're going to have to sign Zach Benson. You're going to have to sign Kesselring. You have to sign Logan Stanley if you want him. There's a lot of contracts and a lot of money that's got to go out the door. With the comparables in the league, there's two ways of looking at it. You're looking from Alex talk side, where you're looking from the team side. If I'm Alex talk, he is worth $10.5 million all day long. And you know what? He'll probably get that on the open market. He'll get $10 million. It just might not be here in Buffalo. And that's the decision that you see that happen. I mean, that's the whole thing. I don't want to see that happen.

17:35Well, there's a report today. I think Ellen coming out saying that at one point in the summer, that he wasn't going to get more than taged. Now, I'd heard that too. The biggest goddamn joke I've ever heard. Well, that's Kevin Adams, though. That's just the way it is. I mean, whatever Kevin Adams was offering is not even real. What do you think the Sabers are willing to go to? Well, they've offered him an eight. Rumor is eight, eight point five, three years. He's definitely worth more than Nick Schmoltz. He'll get over 10 on the open market. Okay? Yes, you will. But he is a, you can pay him. I mean, if you get him under, if you get him for nine and a half million. Yep. It's a great deal. What is that? It's $76 million. It's a great deal for who? Both sides. Yeah. I agree with that. I think $9.5 is a great deal for both sides. I mean, it's money for life.

18:36$76 million. It's $76 million. $76 million. $76 million. $76 million. $76 million. $76 million. $76 million. That's generational wealth, man. I mean, Alex Tuck at the end of this. At the end of a fantastic. It's $100 million he would have made. More. Yeah. He's already made $35 million in his career. He's going to make over $110 million in his career. And he's going to be able to live in Western New York, which, you know, live anywhere he wants, actually. He can live anywhere he wants, but what I'm saying is like he, he's, he built a home here. He lives here. His family is up the road. You know, he's having kids. He wants grandparents to have the ability to come and see their kids, whether or not. Listen, I mean, the Tuck, the Tuck parents are looking at one side saying,

19:39I want Alex and Buffalo because we just have a hop skip and a jump. It's two, two and a half hours to drive up this year. Our grandkids. But he could also sign for $10 million for Seattle. What you were, you were talking about. And you got to fly across country, which one do you think they want more? Do you think they care about an extra 500? Even a million bucks, like it means jack shit when it comes to, you know, having a net worth of over a hundred million. They care about flying across the country. He can just build them a pool house. They can live in the, live in the friggin' 4,000 square foot pool house. He can build out in Seattle and have his other grandparents right there too. Cause she's from Vancouver. Right, but does he not spend his time, he spends his summers? Yeah, and he can spend his season there and come back here and spend his summers here. I mean, it'd just be reverse. It would just be the reverse. Listen, I get it. The greener is not always, the grass is not always greener on the other side.

20:39Just to understand that. With what you see from Buffalo right now, this situation, this last two and a half months, this last 35 plus games has put Alex talking to position, where holy shit, is it a tough decision to make now? Because before, before this conversation, if the sabers don't reach 95, I would not even, I wouldn't even be thinking about this. But if they come to Alex talk and they offer him, like the 85 is a, is it like, hey, this is where we're at. This is what the team wants. This is what we're offering. It's a lot of money. $8.5 million for eight years is a ton of money. We'll get this. If he signs for 9.25 times 8 is 74 million. Okay? Yeah. If he signs for 10.5 times 7,

21:4473.5. Okay. Say that again, because I don't know what happened to my brain. So I said, if he's signed for 9.25, which is like the lowest he should ever accept. Right. And that's for eight years, you're saying. For eight years. Okay. That's where you need to clarify. 74 million. 74 million dollars, eight years. Yep. He can only get a seven year deal at free agency. He can only get a seven year deal. Three that he would get between 10 and 10 and a half. Right? I'd say 10.25. Okay. Okay. 10.25 times 7 is 71.75. If he signs for 10.25 on the open, let's give him even more. Let's give him Adrian Kempe's contract. Let's give him the 10.625 for seven. 74.375. It's 375 grand, but then the tax difference.

22:46There's a big tax difference. Okay. Big tax difference. Probably a million a year difference in taxes. Oh, I know. But he could, let me tell you this. Honestly, do you think the New York Rangers would be interested in signing Alex Talk for 10.25 million? Okay. Let me tell you something. You're making less money living in New York City. You're getting crushed on everything. Yeah. You're getting crushed on what you're renting or buying. The standard of living is 10 times. So you're going to spend 10 times more money. So there's places that are not beneficial. At the end of the day, there's no question. Alex Talk. His house here anywhere else is going to cost him like three times more. Listen, Alex Talk can live in Buffalo. It is probably one of the cheapest places in North America to live. The housing market is very, very solid.

23:47If you go elsewhere, I played in California, Petey. I played in San Jose. Man, is it beautiful? God, they have pantries. They have sun. It's awesome. Let me tell you something. The housing market out there, you could literally buy, and I am not kidding you when I say this. You could buy a shack that's under a thousand square feet and it's a million bucks. You ask anybody who is playing in San Jose in California. We're talking about bringing him into the Nines. But if he ends up scoring 34 goals this year, he'll do that with his eyes closed. He's got 18 games left. 17 games left, I think, and he's at 28. He might score 40. He could score 40, but he could also score 31. But if they make the playoffs, well, when they make the playoffs, they're making the playoffs. If he has unbelievable playoffs, you're not going to have a choice.

24:52You think it's just going to elevate what he is already? I think the Sabers will not have a choice, but pay him over 10 and they clearly don't want to. That's the thing. This is the really hard truth. It's very difficult because good God Almighty. I do not want to see Alex Tuck leave this hockey team, especially with where they're at currently right now and the trajectory of where this team's going to go. You are loaded with young. When I say young, they're players that are under 25 years old that are starting to flourish for the first time in their career. They're really starting to flourish. Now you have Alex Tuck who's going to be turning 30, who has had multiple years here in Buffalo where my God has even good. He has been so good. But now you're going to leave a team that's become the talk of the entire NHL, the talk of the entire sports world. You have sports stations that are football, basketball, baseball, talking about the Sabers, which is mind-blowing.

26:02All the experts. All the experts. But the experts are talking Sabers and why would you want to leave that? I guess it's going to come down to this. It's going to come down to the thought process from the Tuck side. It's going to come down to the thought process from the Tucks and their representation. What is the number that would make me want to stay here in Buffalo? And that agent, Steve Bartlett, has to. And he's going to use his spidey senses because he's one of the best agents in the game. He's going to use his spidey senses to understand when YARMO in these discussions says, I can't go higher than this. This is the last draw. It's either this contract or we have to move on from Alex because I have so many more younger players that are starting to flourish.

27:03There's not going to be the money to assemble the team moving forward. That's where the exciting part is going to be. We are not going to get to see it because it happens in closed doors and the conversations between the Bartlett's agency and YARMO and his people. Those discussions will be quiet. It's been very, very quiet up to this point. I would imagine they're still discussing. But at the same time, whether YARMO signs a contract for Alex Tuck now or waits till after the season, the power is in Tuck's position. It's not in YARMO's. YARMO to get a contract on now, it just doesn't make sense. Now that you did not trade him at the deadline, you may as well wait till the playoffs are over, the whole shooting match, and just wait till after the season. Well, let's get to the Sabers of a game tonight.
