1:00How are you doing? Conrad, it's great to be here in Bradshaw 316 since I just stole your fucking podcast. I got my favorite keys, Jersey on because I threw out the first pitch this past weekend for the Baltimore Orioles high a team. How about that? That's pretty cool. How many first pages have you thrown out near illustrious only a few? I've never thrown a strike. I've never 50 centered it and you know, Bobby Lysley had some real issues. That great athlete Bobby Lysley almost killed the mascot. I think you're hit the hot dog vendor with one of his first pitch. But I did not. I went to the top of the mound because you got to do that. You got to be a man and go to the top of the mound. And so I went to top of the mound and I threw it, but it was just it was it wasn't terrible, but it was low and outside. Well, I'm excited that you got to throw out a first pitch. I am curious though. Did you ever play baseball like as a kid and little league or something like that? What position did you play? I played little league and pitch.

2:00There was not a great pitcher like like the second or third pitcher in the rotation, but I was good for a pretty good first base. But I can hit the ball pretty well. I'll play started to play in high school. We didn't have high school baseball. I was going to play in high school. You know, club teams and things like that. You know, back then West Texas had two sports. They had football and spring football. And literally they didn't have baseball because they want the kids playing baseball. They want the kids playing spring football. So literally that's why they didn't have it. But I went out for the team and about two days into the season. I got to a fight school and broke my hand and didn't play. So I never and I never went back to play. I really like baseball. One of my favorite sports. I would love to play. You know, I played a lot of softball. You're back in the 80s. You know, you know, Sid Viches was playing on his softball and you had the Crusher bronze from his dad. You know, I had the pro softball teams. I played a lot of softball. The slow pitch softball. You know, pretty, pretty elite level.

3:00But I would love to play baseball more. I, uh, I don't know why, but I would have guessed that you played first or third base. It just feels like you would have been batting third, fourth or fifth somewhere in there. And you're going to drop them in. That's kind of your deal. That was it. Yeah. Yeah. I was not the guy that's going to be the lead off hitter. I was going to get to be the guy that, uh, you either hit the ball a long way or. Or you're out. That was me. I love baseball. It was fun. You know, I was not a good pitcher, but I really enjoyed playing first base. I'm just going to throw you a curveball here, pardon the pun. But I know Randy Savage played baseball and I know there had to be a handful of others. But it feels like everybody talks about football and wrestling. And there's a lot of crossover of guys who played football. Whether it's your great partner, Ron Simmons or on down the line. There's a ton of guys who played football and that seemingly translates well to wrestling. What do you think is the most iconic baseball players that actually transitioned to the square in circle? Randy Savage is on the list. Who else?

4:00That's the only one I can think of is Savage. You know, um, I don't know. The Jeff didn't play. I mean, they had. I know his family basketball. But he own. He he's owned some. Baseball teams. Oh, yeah, yeah. He does now. Yeah. The, the, the Lucky Horseshoes in Springfield. Is that a single A triple A is that a minor league team or is that a minor league team? Yeah. Bobo Brazil. I just googled it. Bobo, Brazil, Brazil. Oh, how about Dale Torberg? I forgot about him. WCW guy. He played for the wide socks. Anthony Bowens. He's over on the other channel these days. Uh, Vier. I remember him. He was in WWE. I didn't know Bobo Brazil was on the list though. But I think Randy Savage is probably number one. We'll go Bobo number two. Yeah. Yeah, that, uh, you know, we always, uh, you know, a lot of baseball fans. Wade Bogg, you know, he incurred, uh, hinting, you know, Kurt saved Wade's life. You know, I'm the hunting accident when he fell off a little over a fence and cut himself.

5:02And Kurt had to carry him back, you know, quite a waste. You know, like a mile or two back and, uh, Wade was a huge, huge fan and did a great, gave a great speech. I tell you one of the coolest things ever said was Pete Rose. Uh, he was sitting backstage during like a hall of fame thing. And he said, you know, me sitting back here listening to you guys would be like you guys sitting around listening to Joe Demagio or Babe Ruth or Satya Page talk about the business. I thought that was cool the way he said that. It was really, really respectful. Now that is cool. Well, we're excited to have you with us here today. I can't wait to jump in, but I am having fun with our, uh, our whole chatter about other sports. Basketball wise, is it probably Undertaker and Kevin Nash at the top of the list? Like I know Jeff Jarrett and Big Show and who else would have done that Matt Morgan, probably. Oh, um, Ellie got that he played basketball famously. Is there anybody else I'm missing on the basketball side of things? Ginger could jump out of the gym that he played.

6:02That's a great question. Because Jim, Jim, Jim Dreck was a, it is a unbelievable athlete. You know, I would play in some little, uh, like celebrity baseball, baseball game one time. Billy gun. Remember how Jordan used to come in from behind from top of the key and a pre show he would jump and catch the ball and dunk it. I saw Billy do that. I mean, almost freak it was unbelievable. We're sitting there going, you got to be kidding me. That Billy gun is an unbelievable athlete. That I don't even know if he was a basketball player or just was a great athlete and wanted to dunk a basketball, but Billy was a hell of an athlete. You are correct. Ginger played a play college ball. So how about that? Ginger could jump out of the gym. I mean, what a freaking athlete that that guy is. Well, you're going to see some athletes on display this Sunday night. It's maybe for the first time ever a Sunday night spain event, not a Saturday night spain event. It's going down to State Par Marina in Atlanta, Georgia. Of course, that is the home of QB one. The American Nightmare Cody Rhodes will be mixing it up with Randy Orton.

7:05This has been a long time coming. It feels like a WrestleMania main event because it is, but now it's a Sunday night main event. I love that this is happening too on a holiday weekend. Hope you guys get to check it out. You'll be able to enjoy it over on peacock. If you were a handicap or. Where would the smart money on this one, Bay John? You know, I think you got to go to the Randy and I don't know. I mean, I they're both legends and they're both the top guys. And so I don't think it hurts either one of them to lose, but I think I'd go with Randy. You know, it's interesting, Connor. I just did an A&E rivals thing all last week with Booker T and Miss was the host at a great time. We're talking about baby boy and the match he had with Bret Hart. And this reminds me of a thing I thought about this with peacock. You know, if we'd had streaming back then, baby boy probably would have been World Champion. Because, you know, they sell out Wembley for the intercontinental championship. And the problem that you had though was you had to come back to North America to sell pay-per-view.

8:07So you had to be in the United States and Canada to sell pay-per-views. And so we always had to have something that was kind of in that time frame. You know, you couldn't do stuff in England, not regularly. And so that was really where, you know, if we'd had streaming back then where it doesn't matter where you are as far as the PLEs they call them now. I think baby boy probably would have been a World Champion. You know, I wanted to ask you about that because we have had conversations in different podcasts that I've done through the years about the possibility of way back in the day. When it felt like TNA at times struggled to draw anything on the road and at times even struggled to fill up a soundstage in Orlando. But they could go over to London or really anywhere in Europe. And man, they would sell out houses. They'd have 10,000 seat arenas. Do you think because streaming has changed so much that there's a possibility that there could be a promotion that in theory was once upon a time America based and enjoy a lot of success in Europe.

9:08Because I still wonder could that work today for like TNA today. Hey, they're doing great. Arguably the number three hottest brand in the country. But if you put them in Europe, don't you think that can get some real momentum going? I do. And you know, it's kind of like a band, you know, like WAM or whatever else will go over to Europe and you know, the Bay City Roller go there, you know, sell out arenas over there. That couldn't really sell it arenas in the North America. And I think that's kind of is what we're talking about with some of these wrestling groups. You know, it's not like you've tried some of these homegrown wrestling groups. And for whatever reason, the North American, the American version of it tends to draw better. And so yeah, I think with the streaming now, you know, I thought forever that if ECW had had streaming where they didn't have to worry with with content. As far as people censorship and things like that, those guys would have made bank.

10:09I mean, absolute bank, because of what they could have done. It was just a TV model back then couldn't handle such an edgy product. But yeah, I think there could be something done like that now with some group, you know, that ends up being based out of there because of streaming and because of the way you monetize stuff now, not having to have a TV contract, which can monetize it basically off. Social media, streaming or whatever else off the internet. I think yeah, there's a real possibility that something like that could happen. Yeah, this past weekend on the other channel, you know, we see a show that routinely draws for the television product under 4000 tickets. But this past weekend more than 10X that so maybe there's something to look forward to. But in the meantime, let's talk about what's on streaming this weekend. How about Oba, Fimmy and Braun Breaker. Now, I got to tell you this feels like we have just hit fast forward and this is a WrestleMania main event from a few years from now. But it is on Sunday night's main event this Sunday. This is going to be tough to call. Oba is fresh off of really retiring Brock Lesnar.

11:14But Braun Breaker in his own right feels like the chosen one as well. I don't know who's going to win, but I know I'm looking forward to seeing the story. Yeah, me too. And if you got a call to winner, I'm on call Oba. I think that you know, he's just too hot right now. You retire Brock and you now you're on carry that all that equity forward. I don't see how in the world they can beat him. They might. I mean, Braun Breaker is a great star and it's going to be a great star for a very long time. This is a great matchup. You know, you talk about whether they have created new stars. These are two completely new stars that's been created and they've done a great job with both. I think Oba, Fimmy, I said it for some time that you're going to see an NFL stadium people doing that silly little dancing. What are they all it is? Every time I do it, I look like a freaking bushwhacker. I don't look like Oba. I don't know what it is, but I think you're going to see. So an entire NFL stadium doing that dance because of the association with ESPN and because people are going to see it.

12:14And somebody likes to go on, Mark Lear, Derek Henry or somebody is going to do it. Somebody will talk to her. Also, you're going to see everybody in a field be doing it. I think that guys got a lot of left as far as what he can go as far as higher and higher. Well, count me in for all title net. I'm going with Cody Rhodes and Oba, Fimmy. What about Baron Corbin and Lil Yachty, little celebrity integration. Fun fact, Lil Yachty has still the ringtone for me whenever Bruce Richard calls. We all get treated to some broccoli, which believe it or not, Bruce Richard knows the words to Baron Corbin. I got you're very familiar with against Bruce knows the words to that. Oh, man, he does indeed. And if you if we when we finish here, if you were to happen to call him and say, Hey, what's your favorite Lil Yachty verse? He's got it on command for you. If you see Bruce Richard in public, ask him to hit you with that little Yachty verse. He knows it by heart.

13:14But Baron Corbin and Lil Yachty, they're looking it up this weekend. What do you think, John? See, this is what happens when you're a guy is very capable. Baron Corbin is very capable. He's a smart guy and you're able to put him out there with celebrities and things like that because he's able to handle stuff like this. I think this is kudos to Baron, be able to handle all this. And I think it's going to be a lot of fun is what I think. I think Baron goes, I don't know. I mean, you have got celebrity. These these one all type things don't really hurt you if you get beat. So I don't know when or there's probably go with Baron. What's your favorite Lil Yachty song? I don't know what you're saying. I couldn't tell you what song. Not one song unless he sings like some old Merl or something. I had no moral. You think Lil Yachty's hit this with some Merl? You think you don't think he's a moral hacker fan? I mean, I don't know Mr. Yachty, but I'm going to go ahead and say no. I don't think he's a moral hacker fan.

14:14If you saw him, what'd you call him, Mr. Yachty? Well, I want to be respectful. What is his name's Yachty, right? Little Yachty? Yeah, well, not little. I mean, that's disrespectful. It's Lil. Lil Yachty. It Lil. Lil Yachty. Come on now. What is he saying? He sings broccoli. That's Bruce Richards favorite song. He's you sing broccoli. That's a song. Yeah, there's a line in that song, by the way. Eat that pussy like Hulk Hogan. Really? Yes. And when I saw it, I thought it was the funniest thing I'd ever heard and I sent it to Bruce Richards and he too thought it was the funniest thing he'd ever heard. So if you ever see Bruce Richards out and about, you got to ask him his favorite Lil Yachty verse. And if he doesn't give it to you, and he turns red and he starts smiling, now you know why? I'm going to listen to Lil Yachty. Yeah.

21:23Or even if they're trying to say it's a legitimate car. I don't know what they're saying with it. Or there's nothing on there that describes it. As this is a JBL car, it just made us have a bunch of JBL stuff on it. I personally think you should get this and we should do. We should create some content with it. I mean, how great would it be if you started doing this show from the back of one of your limos? Like instead of if it was in your basement, you're in the back of the JBL limo. But how would people know I was in the limo? If I was in the limo. Because we can see you, John. You know how this works right there's like you're looking at a camera right now. I guess you wouldn't know if I was in that one or was in a different limo. Would you because I meant that you're inside? So unless you showed the outside, you wouldn't know what limo was in. We would do B-roll. If you ride around town, maybe who would be your driver? That's a good question. Would you have, would you have Teddy Long be your wheelman? Who would be the driver for JBL? 22:24Hi, pathetic. How great would it be if you could convince your great close personal friend? Mr. Undertaker to roll down that little divider and turn his head. Fuck a lot of Stephanie or whatever the shitty said. We got to get this limo. You got to create content in the back of this bitch. Can you imagine you doing a meet and greet? You're going to be a little bit more of a big deal. You're going to get this limo. You got to create content in the back of this bitch. Can you imagine you doing a meet and greet with this? And fans could get in the limo and sit with you next to it. You got the bell call. I did it. Years ago, I did a meet greet. Before they had autograph sessions, everything. The autograph sessions were pretty new. They're not like, you know, they had been around for 45 years. But about 20 years ago or so, I was, they had a meet greet in the limo. And they had fans ride around me. And actually, it actually went really well. It was actually a lot of fun. So yes, I cut it. I'm fully on board with this. I think it'd be a great idea. I don't know where we're going to store the thing. And your driveway.

23:25Mrs. Layfield's fine with that. I texted her earlier. She's fine with it. See you. So you text her. She said she was fine with this. Yeah. She asked me, she said, she said, she said, send the wiring instructions. And I'm like, I don't think we should send a wire over Facebook. I think. 25:28or get my picture with you in front of it with the horns. That may be the move standing in front of it with the horns and you bring the belt to. You still got that old pinstripe suit. Can we alter it? Can we let it out? Can we make it? Why would we have to alter it and let it out? What do you mean? You just said you'd have to alter it and let it out. Why would I have to alter it and let it out? Well, I saw you manage bearing corporate and you were swimming in that suit. Well, I'm a little smaller than I was. That's what I'm saying. But listen, when I go to the tailor, it's to let things out. I don't know what you skinny fuckers do. I'm just saying if you take some of your old pinstripe suits to the tailor, we could make you look pretty much like JBL back in the day. You throw that hat on. You still got that head, you got the head brace. The neck brace. Let's get that shit. I don't have it, but I can find one. Buddy, if we find one of those and you put that little fucking hat on top and you're standing next to the horns, I mean, we're printing money. I completely agree. I'm on board with this. I'm completely on board with this.

26:32Victorville, California, we need your help. JBL has just committed. You heard it. It's under oath. He will fly out there and then we will find a way to ship it back or even better. What if we road trip it back and we just mount some go pros? Who would be out there in Vegas next week for triple A? Buddy. Oh my god. What you got to do is go through a little death valley right there in your nearer in California. I think God, good. Look what he just gave us. I'm really fired up about now. We are going to have to talk about who's going to help drive us because I can tell you firsthand experience. We cannot let Dave Silva touch the will of this thing. Do you know this story? No. He asked me. He was at the office years ago and he said, hey, you might have bought your car to go get some breakfast. And I'm like, no, of course not. He's running. Go ahead. So he jumps in my SUV runs through the keys in your car. Yeah. I don't do that all the time, but I did it in my office that day.

27:35I live in Huntsville, Alabama, John. I don't live. I don't live in downtown Washington, DC. Don't get hot. I'm just asking. I'm just saying there are parts of the country where you might not get stabbed going to your car. It still exists. He's got to come sound. Anyway, he decides to go to Chick-fil-A. I mean, as a lot of people do for breakfast, what's your go to Chick-fil-A breakfast order, John? Not a big Chick-fil-A guy. And the problem is because at the airport, which is the best chick, the easiest chick play out of have to go to, the lines are so freaking long. You just can't get in. I mean, it's unbelievable. The thing is so freaking popular. Unfortunately, well, not personally for me, my five guys, I'm able to get in because I know the guys. So I get my 25 oh five meal at my five guys Chick-fil-A. The line is just too long. Let me just go ahead and tell you they are very efficient with their lines on the drive through everybody who does hit the drive through knows that. And they're going to hit you with that. It's my pleasure. So all nothing happened in Dave Silva. He managed to hit the drive through. And when I say hit the drive through, buddy, I mean hit that motherfucker.

28:42He came back and I could tell he was kind of quiet when he came back normally when he makes a run like that. He comes back and he throws me a chicken biscuit or something. I didn't get anything like that this time. No big deal. I'm fine. I breakfast. I'm good. Thanks for asking. And then towards the end of the day, he comes in my office and says, I need to talk to you. And I thought, oh man, something bad's happened. Something's wrong with brother or sister. Somebody sick. There's a real problem here. He shuts the door. He sits down. Now you know, John, if you've ever worked in an office and somebody comes in your office, that's just a friend. And they shut the door. You're like, oh, shit's getting deep. Yeah. And he sits across from me and he says, hey, I may have, might have accidentally almost possibly scratched the wheel in the driver.

29:42And he didn't maybe possibly almost could have scratched a wheel. He ate the fucking curb with all four wheels. One in particular was so damaged that it couldn't even be repaired. I had to order a whole new wheel. It wasn't it was barely operational. And he went to the Chick-fil-A drifter and back. So I'm telling you, if he can't drive a BMW X5 to Chick-fil-A and back in Huntsville, I don't think we should hire him to drop from California to Bethesda, Maryland in a lima. How did he wreck it? It's a great call. I'll never understand it. I maybe he was asking for jelly. I mean, great jelly on a Chick-fil-A biscuit does hit. I will tell you that. I've done the research. But wouldn't he be stopped if he's asking for jelly? You would think, but I think he got so excited that he pressed the gas and he just went all over the wheel. But the only way when I showed my, I have a wheel guy shout out to Quavo's Customs in Huntsville and he goes, hey man, I don't think I can repair this one.

30:47And I go, what do you mean? You fixed every time my wife is scuffed the wheel for the last nine years. What do you mean? And he goes, buddy, it's a refinishing tool. It's not a magic wand. Even if I could fix it, your card be out of fucking alignment. Like this thing's ripped by another wheel. And I go, how would this even happen? And he goes, well, I was going to ask you. He goes, well, he said he did it at the Chick-fil-A Dr. And he goes, if he did, it would have meant he hit the Dr. Through backed up and hit it again. So I don't think we need to trust Dave Silva with a little. So it sounds like Dave Silva was alive. I'm not going to go that far. I mean, I'm not going to call him a liar here on a program. He produces. You know he can hear us right now. Well, yeah, but I mean, he sounds like he was not being very truthful about this because that's where you're saying is he would have had to hit something back up and hit it again. That's impossible. So I think what happened is he did something and he didn't want to tell you it's what he made up something. It's what it sounds like to me.

31:47I don't know if I want to believe that, but I will say I do wish that I would have known exactly what was happening and what was going on in real time. I didn't want an unnecessary surprise. Hey, so John, let's talk a little bit about a quote. I don't know if you saw, but I saw it and I wanted to take on it on the other channel. MJF talked a little bit about veteran voices and you were in the locker rooms since you were a young man and you've been around them for decades at this point. But he said something that I'll admit I've never really thought about and I thought, hey, this is worth asking John about.

35:01I've said in Austin, serity, I think one of the biggest issues that young people in the industry make is that a lot of guys are busy walking around trying to find veterans in the locker room. Here's the deal and the gods honest truth, not all of them, but 99% of the veterans in the locker room. They don't have your best interest. They don't want you to beat them. They don't want you to be better at talking than them or better at wrestling than them. If you're better than they are, that's taking food off their plate. The only person you can trust in this industry is yourself. Now, of course, he plays a bad guy character, so maybe that's a little harsher than it needed to be because he is a character or, hey, is this honest? Is there facts here? Because it is logical. What say you, John? You got to know who to trust. Absolutely. There isn't going to be some guys that don't have your best interest at heart. And also, you don't want to ask a bunch of people anyway. Some of the best advice I got, I was in Japan, and Buddy Lendale comes up to me and says, hey, can I talk to you? I said, yeah, he goes, do you know when you've had a good match? I said, well, I think so. And he said, then why when you come back, do you look like a total mark and go ask everybody in the dressing room? Did they see your match?

36:14And I had no answer. And he said, find you one or two people you trust. That's it. And he goes and don't go around asking it. And I see that all the time. You know, most guys, when they come back, they, they are girls. I use guys that gender neutral term. They think they really don't want advice. They really don't want your feedback on how you might they want all they want to do is be put over all your terrific. You're great. That's normal. That's human nature. There are some guys you can't trust. And because especially when there's a competition, you know, there's this is not a kumbaya industry. It shouldn't be. It should be that you're trying to get over. Now, there are a lot of guys that when you're looking out for the best interests of the company because you want them to draw money so that everybody draws more money. You do give them good advice. I think it's just a matter of knowing who you talk to. I don't know if it's 99% I think that seems a little bit high. I don't know. I never was one that asked a ton of people. He said one or two people because of what buddy Landel told me.

37:18You know, and that's a big advice I'd give these young people out there now. I watch these guys come back now. It's just unbelievable. I mean, it's like the company has adopted them. I sit there watching whoever's there at grill position. They come back there and they look at them. They want to be given the thumbs up and so you're wonderful, wonderful thing to go back to the thread. It's one of those silliest things I've ever seen. You know, it's just I don't know. I guess they need reassurance. I don't know if it's a sign of the new times or whatever else it is. I think that's kind of the trend now that people come back. I want to have this reassurance that they're doing such a great job. But as far as guys giving you bad advice, I'm sure it goes on. I'm sure some advice is just not too good because you're asking is not very smart. So I know he's talking about other wrestlers in the locker room. I do want to make that distinction because I think this could get lost in translation. So I want to ask. We've heard a lot of people say that when they would come back to the curtain in WWE.

38:18I just recently saw Delo say this that there was sort of two reactions you would get from Vince. One was like a head nod. I'd like a nod of approval. And the other was like, I mean, you're in trouble. You don't want that sort of reaction. I don't think that's what he's talking about here. I think I don't even think that's what you're talking about. Like when you come back. Hey, that is your boss. You're looking to sit to ask your boss as any employee. And I know technically you're not employees. You get where I'm going though. Hey, is that what you were looking for? You're trying to make the boss happy. That's not what MJF or you were saying here, right? Like no, not the approval of that person. Yeah, you want to prove that person. I still would not be the one that they want to talk to you. They'll call you over. I still don't like people that it is a separate topic. People that go back, they want the reassurance of ball skin the thumbs up or whatever else. I remember I remember sitting back there watching Akbar. And he didn't watch a lot of the matches and people would come back. I was an echo. Sounded great. I need to listen to another already.

39:24Colin was the same way. Yeah, yeah. Sounded great. He was playing freaking card the whole time. But what we're talking about is going back and asking other talent. If you have some might you trust, ask him. You know, that's how you learn and that they can pick up something a lot of times that you can't because something gets into your routine that you don't know and it happens over time and all of a sudden it's something you don't want. You know, it's a movement. It's a reaction. It's something. Somebody else can spot that sometimes. It's always good to have a trusted voice. But as far as people that you ask that you can't trust. If you can't trust them, don't ask. You shouldn't be asking them anyway. If you don't know them that well, you shouldn't be asking them. I just don't think for one. I don't want to open up myself that much to somebody else that I don't know. But to also you have no idea of how smart they are. How wise they are in the business. I mean, if it's an older person, you can pretty much go reputation.

40:24But I think what MJF is saying is actually pretty good advice. You know, I don't think that there's a lot of people that try to undercut people. I think it's just a bad idea to ask a lot of advice from other talent. So two more follow ups about this because I am genuinely curious. I know a lot of times when guys are guys and gals who are saying gender neutral are putting together matches. They usually do that with the help of an agent or producer, whatever you want to call them a coach. But there's usually some sort of veteran voice whose job is to help make this match in this presentation and this promo this segment as effective as they can. Maybe they were at the production meeting. They heard it directly from the horses mouth exactly what they're looking for. Would you solicit their advice? Absolutely because they've been in production meeting. They know exactly what the boss here the boss is wants exactly what I want to advise. Yeah, I want to know exactly what the boss said. I'd rather go straight to the boss. But if you don't have that access.

41:28I want to know what was said and I want to know what the e-dict is that's coming down. And so what I want that. Yeah. And we're in a different world today. We used to work so many matches. So we would work 40 matches sometimes leading up to a pay-view wrestling the same person. So at the time we got there, we don't need an agent to put a match together for us. We've done this thing. No telling how many times we've done this thing for a couple of months straight. Every single night on the road doing this thing. We don't need that. These guys a lot of times they go to a PLE or a big event. They've never even worked with this person before. And so they need an agent. So now an agent has become so much more important because of the fact they're not able to work as much. So they don't have that education system that put all this stuff in the bag about what works and what doesn't. So you have to be able to work with an agent with a producer, whatever you want to call it. So yeah, I would work with that person a bunch because that's that's the dynamic now that kind of shapes the wrestling business.

42:30I do want to come back to that thing you talked about about hey before a pay-view, we would work 40 times. Let's table that for just a second. You said, hey, if it's a veteran that you trust, who did you solicit when you were in WWE? Or did that even happen in WWE? If you were curious, hey, how did I do? You said you would rely on one or two people. Who would those people have been? Jack Lanz was one of them and you know, I had a great relationship with Jack Lanz and we were really good friends. We became really good friends. And I always felt like I could trust Jack. You know, Jack was one of those guys who didn't overproduce matches. Jack was one of those guys who didn't over instruct you about how to do things. Jack would tell you just one or two things. And he was very succinct about it. And I really trusted Jack. And so I would always go back to Jack and ask him, he was the number one guy because he watched everything. And he also had vences here. So I know exactly, you know, this guy is representing the boss. This guy is going to write to the boss what he thinks is good and bad.

43:31And so that's the guy that you've got to work with as far as being successful for the company. And so Jack Lanz and was a guy I always went to. As far as the other guys, I mean, I always had great tag partners. You know, very well known was a guy who really took me and mentored me in WWE. WWE Dutch Mantel was a very, very is a very smart guy. Dutch helped me tremendously. He was a guy I trusted. And I always would do guys in Ron Simmons was the same way. But it was always guys that I was very good friends with that I trusted implicitly that I would talk to because I didn't want to I want my business out there, you know, among the whole locker room. Like a lot of guys kind of did. I thought that was going to learn my lesson from buddy Landel when I was still young in the business. I also wanted to ask you about that comment you made about hey back in the day, you know, we would work on the house shows because you were working so many matches. You and your opponent would have probably worked together dozens of times before it was ever for a mass audience outside of the house, whether it was TV or it was pay per view.

44:35It was rare that the first time you guys were wrestling was going to be televised because you get to work out all the kinks on the house shows and things like that. I bring this up because every now and again we'll hear veterans talking fun and sort of making fun of the modern product and say boy, the kids these days they'll spend three hours laying out a 12 minute match back in my day. We just called it in the ring, but that's also really not comparing apples to apples because back then to your point you were married to your opponent for weeks or perhaps months before it ever was from ask consumption. So you could really dial it in. So of course you don't have to talk through it and call it in the ring. You can say hey tonight we're going to do San Francisco and you both kind of know what that means and then you go do it. But if you're going to wrestle each other for the very first time and it's live on television, I think it's fine to spend a bunch of time making sure that you've measured twice and cut once right. I have no problem with that whatsoever. Look, we just like I said, I did the A&E rivals last week. We talked about steamboat and savage and you know famously savage had number the mat the moves.

45:43I mean, literally from one to one 50 whatever it was. So you have great matches, even back then, some that were choreographed 100% the great that match was, you know, the thing is it doesn't really matter how the matches put together was it called in the back was it called the ring. All it matters is what delivered in the ring. If the that product is good, who cares who cares if it was called back cares it was called on the fly. It makes no difference. It's about enjoyment of the people and yeah, Conrad, it doesn't it's not apples apples. I mean, when I would work a match and I know I got a pay for you coming up, but I'm working for three or four weeks leading up that pay for you and I'm working all over the country. I'm working in Canada, working the States, I'm working all over the place in different cities and matinee shows and evening shows and all of a sudden now we got this pay for you coming up. You don't really need to talk about a lot because you work so many freaking times. How you need to know is how long we go and we're going nine minutes cool. Who do you want over what kind of finish do you want that that's it.

46:49If it been somebody that I'd never worked before, I completely agree with you is completely different for those of people that say, oh, we called everything in the ring. Well, there's a reason we called everything in the ring. We work every single night or at least most nights. We work most nights every single week. So when you work here, when this is your 25th match with somebody, it's pretty easy to go out there and figure, okay, if the crowds buying this, this, this, and Conrad, I've called thousands of matches. I was always a heel. I enjoyed calling matches, not always a hill, but most of my career I was a heel. I enjoyed calling matches. I really enjoyed the art of calling the matches. I've always had an idea of what I was going to do. Now, I may have like two or three different ideas. So it wasn't like I just went out there and called what I felt. I had an idea. I mean, I had an idea how I was going to start it. But if I got out there and I felt something different. Literally, it's like you say, okay, that's San Francisco. That's Detroit. Okay. The crowds different enjoy. Ha ha. They enjoy heat. They enjoy the face over the enjoy the heel.

47:54I was being over a new where to go, but I had all this stuff in the bag. So what like I just went out there with complete like a lot of guys make it up like we just got out there and just called stuff and we did do that, but we're not there with the plan the whole time. I got to ask you mentioned you were working on something for steamboat and savage. Any idea when that may air? I don't know. We're talking about was rivals. We did 11 shows. Booker was with me and I broke in with booker is my good friends and miss was the host and it's one of guys kind of rotated Kevin Owens there Charlotte player was there. Terry Taylor was there for all the shows. So yeah, I don't know I assume it's for next season, which I guess that's probably the whole season being 11 shows, but it was some pretty fun stuff. Hogan Flair, we had steamboat savage, we had some stuff with Jeff Hardy with stuff with John Cena, CM Punk, had a ton of shows, a lot of fun. Those guys do good shows.

49:00You know, we do these shows gone red and it's unbelievable. How much we talk about these shows and how little they actually use. You know, you talk about it forever and they take it. That's what they do. And that's fine. I can only imagine if you're cranking out 11 of those, man, you got to really focus. 53:22Show me your favorite miss moment tag me and I may repost consider that your assignment last dismissed the guy may have been it WrestleMania against John Cena when Cena was at his peak and he beat him and I don't think anybody would have had that on their bingo card but man he has been a scene stealer for years and years and years. Whether it's you know him working and doing the the apprentice work in the stunt double stuff I love that tag team he had with Aaron Steven I love the stuff that we got to see with him hosting different segments including his infamous flare up on talking smack with Brian Danielson like this guy is a world class performer but what a great ambassador he's been for WWE like if you need any sort of media don't I can't think of anybody I'd rather sin to represent my company than miss. But he's one of those guys who I feel like is just criminally underrated and a lot like Michael Cole I don't know that will appreciate him as much as we should until he's not doing it anymore because he's been so fun for so long that you've got to know the real Mike ms and in quite well what do you think about miss celebrating 20 years with WWE I mean that in and of itself is rare fight air it's rare fight air and I think it's fantastic you know he is a great person but he's a really like you say is a really great person.

54:44He's a really smart guy they're able to trust him in so many different places he works non stop means a lot like John Cena in the fact they send him all over the world because he's so talented you know when a guy's talented you know sometimes you take advantage of him and I'm sure they have it time but as they take advantage of you use them all the time you know use them more than you would use somebody else because they have such talent I've always thought that the miss had one of the best careers in the history of this business because he didn't learn in the territories. He came in when we had a pretty loaded roster 20 something years ago and he didn't have the benefit of having like we did a thousand matches before we got there he came to tough enough in a reality show and all of a sudden he's now learning on television you know the problem that you had with tough enough and it was a real issue was you had so much equity in these guys that you had all these show about I mean all this different stuff about all of a sudden they they okay now I want to see him wrestle for the problem is they hadn't learned how to wrestle.

55:44And so you don't want them to learn on global television because that kills them miss learned a lot of global television and still built a Hall of Fame career there are very few people in the history of this I don't think I could have done it that it could have their trajectory that miss had we come basically from okay I'm coming from this reality show now I'm going into wrestling I don't have the ability I don't have the time and I don't have the ability to be able to learn all these different wrestling from the world. And I'm going to be able to learn from the territories and all these different places off television you got to learn on global television and he still built a Hall of Fame career I think it's one of the most remarkable careers literally in the history of this business I think it's that good. You're not alone John Cena said something similar he says respect is earned you earned mine a long time ago eight sunset makes it far more difficult for most anyone else to deny theirs. Congratulations on an incredible 20 years you are the example I consistently bring up the young talent of effort and turning anything into entertaining I really appreciate John Cena doing that I think those guys are going to be forever linked and I'm curious what fans think have you warmed up to miss I know he played a bad guy on TV but you've got to give him his just desserts let us know in the comments what do you think about miss in his career to me.

57:09First ballot Hall of Famer I know it's probably going to get some hate tweets for that hey go ahead and send him my way hey hey it's Conrad I don't think it can be debated. This is one of one man one of one and there's no doubt about it if you ain't the first ballot all the favor they're ain't the first ballot all the favor that guy deserves all of the accolades that you could possibly get this business me the fact that he came through the way he did and got thrown out there and thrown out there to the wolves. And not only did he not sink that some it's turning to mark spits for those that don't know he was a great swimmer and he became this incredible super they built this Hall of Fame career office he's done everything well you know he's done he's going to act in movies he's been a heal he's been a baby face he's been a serious character he's been a hot hot character everything he's done he's done fantastic I just I'm a huge miss fan he's. He's a huge miss fan he hosted the shows last week that we did and I was amazed at the memory that I ask him about it because there's a there's a key kind of that you know about ask it how do you remember tent holes is that how you get through things I don't guys remember that in matches or in long things they had no notes and so you know what I would do is you remember tent holes so you know where to go to hear here and anyway it was interesting discussion that he had because smart guys you know are able to do that and and he's one of those guys I'm.

58:36Listen it's been so much fun to watch his career I took a lot of heat on him when his younger you know but it was all it was all storyline stuff you know he I've always enjoyed miss. Well I enjoy picking your brain and one of my favorite things to do a certainly with Jeff Jarrett and Eric Bishop and I'd like to start tackling some topics like this with you what if and I wanted to talk about some of the biggest what ifs and wrestling and maybe we can do one or two of these a week for the coming weeks and I'm. Just see if we can have some fun with if one little thing changed does everything change like I was talking about this the other day with a friend of mine we all remember the Montreal school job and we all remember the timing of how all of that happened as a reminder at WrestleMania 1996 Fred Hart leaves takes a little bit of a break and then in the meantime while he's on a break it's got all in Kevin Nash go and invade WCW and start the NWO so about the time Fred Hart is coming back to television it's October of 1996 he's heard out both sides both WCW he actually met with Eric Bishop and he chatted a little bit with Vince McMahon and then decided I'm going to spend the rest of my career with Vince he sounded 20 year contract they revealed that contract in October of 96 were needy in the NWO storyline which started the prior July for one month removed for more games and we're on our way to build star K 97

1:00:0615 months later the NWO was a juggernaut and respectfully the WF was getting their ass kicked so when Brett sticks around it's a big feather in the cap for Vince McMahon so he had to pull out all the stops including a 20 year deal now fast forward 11 months and on September 22 1997 the WWE runs Madison Square Garden for Monday Night Raw for the first time ever Brett surprised surprise as late to the building that day and that's when Vince pulls him aside and says hey man I can't afford to honor your contract I'm sorry but I just can't afford to do it they're kicking my ass see if you can get your old deal back I'll help you anyway I can so Brett starts to negotiate and work out a deal with WCW he's doing this while he himself is the world champion having won it the prior month at Summerslam 97 the first paper view for the WWE in New Jersey in a long time once they reclassified it and didn't have to face silly tax shout out to the governor there appreciate her fast forward though and once these discussions

1:01:14are going to be a little bit more than ever and then we'll see you guys next week with Brett and WCW Vince comes back and says hey never mind I found the money but at that point Brett's already engaged the conversation and it is for not just a little money but a lot of money Brett shows Vince the contract Vince can't come anywhere close and they agree it's time for Brett to finish up in WCW or in WBE and go to WCW now the trouble is he's still got the title we all know what happened in Montreal and that was November of 1997 but fast forward just two months later and Shawn Michaels is wrestling the undertaker at the Royal Rumble in a casket match he comes over the top rope cracks his back on the edge of the lid of the casket and Shawn is never the same his wrestling careers in jeopardy a few days later he can barely get out of bed and through fishing wire and chewing gum they McGiver him into the ring to drop the world title bad attitude and all because he's hurting for certain in the Austin era is born in March of 1998

1:02:14just five months after Brett leaves Mike Tyson is raising Stone Cold Steve Austin's hand one year after Brett helped make Stone Cold the prior year but now there's no Brett in WWF and there's no Shawn in the WWF so we effectively go the majority of what I would call the attitude era without either guy the main event of WrestleMania 12 and they're gone by WrestleMania 14 we go through 15 and 16 and 17 and 18 it's not until 19 that we see Shawn Michaels back by that point WCW is no more the Monday night wars are over the attitude era is dead but my peak fandom for Shawn Michaels was like late 97 early 98 I loved that era of Shawn Michaels and Bruce Richard has even said in a meeting once Vince McMahon pointed to that infamous interview segment interview segment if you will with Shawn Michaels and Jim Ross where he had stuffed his shorts his bicycle shorts and he's jumping up and crotch chopping JR in the face he happened to do that when a rare appearance where Vince was not at TV it's taped and everyone's upset but Vince decides Shawn is showing attitude that's what we need attitude

1:03:37the attitude era is in large part named after Shawn Michaels and he's not there to appreciate it in an alternate universe what would Shawn's career have looked like what would the attitude era have looked like if Shawn doesn't get hurt in that casket match if he's there for the rest of 1998 does the rock win the world title at Survivor Series 98 what happens in 99 with Shawn Michaels on the roster hurt angle comes in becomes the man in 2000 but imagine them mixing it up in the year 2000 when I know what happens years later but Shawn Michaels during the attitude era I goodness what could that have looked like you know voids are always filled and so when Shawn left the void that was filled was filled by the rock it was filled by stone cold it was filled by a lot of people because that was a huge void Shawn was that big of a character I think if Shawn says I don't know much changes except the fact we're going to get some of the greatest matches in wrestling history I mean the the trilogy the matches with stone cold he would have had my god man the Shawn Michaels that was the attitude era Shawn Michaels during that time that had such a chip on his shoulder and was such an unbelievable at world class athlete

1:04:59and come right he was that much better than everybody else the matches that he could have had with stone cold where the Shawn had the title or Steve had the title who cares and then the matches that he would have had with undertaker I know they had that one in WrestleMania 25 they would have had a lot earlier and the red matches they would have had with the rock was Shawn would have had with the rock can you imagine Shawn Michaels in his 1990s prime against the rock especially that Shawn that had such a chip on his shoulder and that Shawn was I mean the Shawn that came back was world class this Shawn was just different level man I think the wrestling world missed out on so much because Shawn got hurt I mean it robbed the boys have seen it Rob the fans have seen it what they would have done what people be talking about to this day and and beyond the next hundred years about the matches that Shawn would have had

1:06:03it's unbelievable to think about Shawn in that era because the attitude era was so fun and so off the rails and his segments his and Austin's really helped establish that his early stuff with the X was so cutting edge and then it was cut short and I know they had a lot of fun with triple H as the leader but I personally preferred the OG DX of Shawn sort of leading the way thumbing his nose at the authority and to think that he was 32 years old I know that people online make fun of me for doing this that's the same age as trick Williams is now and we look at trick Williams and we think man look at the future he's got look at what all this young man is going to accomplish when Shawn leaves he's trick Williams age so you're talking about you know 33 34 35 36 he missed those years in the ring he could have torn it up during the attitude area I think we'd be talking about him a lot of times people have conversations or they did years ago maybe it's different now but for years we heard people say oh Rick Blair and Shawn Michaels are one a and one B

1:07:08I don't know that we would even be talking that way if Shawn's right attitude here no I don't think we'll be talking to anything at all about but Shawn Michaels yes he would be he's that good I mean you look at the promos they cut look at the promos that people talk about even the even the ones that people talk about sometimes in a negative light you know I hate you're having sunny days Shawn would have done that every Monday not the cutting shooting top up but he would have done something I think the stuff he did with Rick Roode where he's mooning the camera I mean Shawn was nuts crazy but in a good way I mean a great way I mean all of a sudden now we've got somebody on our side that's drawing us ratings it's that's firing a few solvos at least a few back at WCW or we're getting our ass kicked but that Shawn Michaels if he's the same Shawn Michaels then whether if you didn't get hurt that you carry on the matches would be insane but the promos would also be insane like Shawn what Shawn could have a promo I mean the stuff he could do with stone cold could you imagine the promos with the rock when the rocks on fire and he's hit his stride

1:08:19everything he's doing he's hardly making match up with the rock Shawn could I mean it would have been Conrad it would have been insane when you talk about one a one b there's just one at that point and it's Shawn Michaels you know what's interesting too I know that there's this this narrative out there that the stone cold Steve Austin thing was this big elaborate plan I think history is proven out hey that was not the case he didn't say Austin 316 and in June of 96 and then he just had the rocket on it that's not the way it happened and I don't even know that they had a fully fleshed out plan because let's remember Brett's out in November shines out in March when Austin wins the world title and Mike Tyson raises his hand it feels like the culmination of a great story but really they're just getting started it's going to be a month later that they start beating Nitro in the ratings it's April of 98 and it's Mr. McMahon versus Steve Austin that makes it happen not another wrestler so the

1:09:21unforgiven pay-per-view the follow-up PLE if you will in modern speak the WrestleMania 14 is dude love they brought dude love back the character that is probably the least popular of all of the personas and they run it back the next month at over the edge so when Shawn won the world title in theory they had a series of opponents lined up when Austin wins it we go back to back with Mick Foley as a less than character in my opinion I much preferred and I would have loved to have seen cactus Jack versus stone cold Steve Austin I would have loved to have seen the mankind character versus stone cold I know it's the same performer but in presentation it's just my preference but the idea that we got him back to back and there was no Shawn rematch we were robbed of a lot of great stuff by Shawn missing those years yeah we were and again they had no idea what to do with Steve when you talk about hey people talk about in your right in revisionist history they went all of a sudden Steve says Austin 316 and everything just exploded it did start to explode it

1:10:24start business picked up right away but it didn't explode they had no idea what to do with Steve I mean all of a sudden Steve cuts this promo that's one of the greatest of all time it goes viral before people knew what viral was people are starting to bring signs about Austin 316 and all of a sudden now you've got this guy that people are paying to see they had no idea what to do because it wasn't there created it took them a while now one thing they did conrad that was very good but they didn't screw it up right they didn't say okay we're just gonna stick it out there we're gonna try to fit they waited until kind of they figured it out they let simmer on its own that it's Steve kind of build on its own when Steve became hot and they figured out how to build it and once they did it was the greatest things greatest thing I've ever seen I've never seen business go from so bad to business being sold out anywhere in the world anywhere you even they any building you put Steve's name on in the world sold out when he we I like that but if you had shot during that time oh my god I mean imagine if you keep Brett too like in an alternate universe yes

1:13:37the leader of the NWO I don't think the NWO happens I don't think he I don't think anything would have gotten so hot that he would have said okay brother I'm gonna drop the yellow in the red and we're gonna try me as a bad guy I think the entire wrestling universe changes forever because it is the NWO that actually forces WWE to create the attitude era and be more edgy and do less of the I guess we'll call it the occupational gimmicks how different would wrestling be if Scott Hall and Kevin Nash had stayed in Connecticut it'd been terrible I think terrible because you would have you would not have had the attitude era I don't see any way you'd have had it you'd have had Rocky my via come along he'd been Rocky my via I don't think he'd ever I don't know if you'd ever been the Rock you know you'd you'd have had Stone Cold come along but he wouldn't have been Stone Cold he was Stone Cold Steve's already there he'd have been the ringmaster you wouldn't have had that there there's no way that was created Scott and Kevin created all of this now with Kudos

1:14:40Eric Bischoff from Brighamian and helping with it but those three created this but if if Scott Kevin don't jump Bischoff has Eric has nothing to create with and that's what changed everything I mean we had all these guys Conrad we had Hunter was an aristocrat Steve was the ringmaster the DX was a Rockabilly and a Road Agent I mean Kane was a dentist I mean we had all these guys but in horrible characters you had Scott and Kevin and they're a razor and a diesel whatever that is and so I don't think you'd have had any of this I mean I don't think you'd ever had the the meeting where Vince says I don't know what to do and Chris Chambers draws on on a napkin the the scratch logo that they would use and you start seeing the attitude error come around but it all started with Scott and Kevin without Scott and Kevin jumping I don't know what we'd have had

1:15:43but we wouldn't have the attitude era it's so interesting to think about you know no heel Hulk Cogan no NWO no I mean just diesel stays put razor stays put probably no attitude era let's go back even further to 1995 what if Eric Bischoff doesn't fire Steve Austin and he stays stunning and now if Scott Hall and Kevin Nash aren't coming over does he get to the main events with Hulk there yeah I think so too but I don't know if you've heard this story but it's kind of a famous story I don't know that we talk about it enough Austin actually pitched an idea where he would have been like the cousin or brother he somehow related to Hulk Hogan and the idea that he would have been in the gimmick like that almost guarantees to me that's going to be difficult to shake loose of when they see you as the little brother or the cousin or whatever of Hulk Hogan

1:16:44he certainly wouldn't have been stone cold like I just don't think any of that happens and I'm glad that it worked out the way it did clearly it worked out for everybody but if he stays in WCW I have no doubt that his talents would have gotten him to the main event but the creative I mean let's be honest in 1995 they're running around with the dungeon of doom I mean let's just say it plainly that's it sucked it would have been really really difficult to imagine wrestling being as hot as it was in stone cold had joined as much success as he did if he doesn't get fired from WCW yeah and he doesn't go to ECW and find his voice yeah that was a big that was a big part of it too I mean Steve found his voice Steve's obviously as you can tell through history a very smart guy he knows the business and knows it very well but he found his voice down there with Paul Heyman when it was Paul it was kind of coaching him or giving him the plat for whatever it was he found his voice and if he stays in WCW he probably doesn't find his voice Steve is a great worker

1:17:53he probably becomes a world champion he doesn't become stone cold at least I don't think in my opinion you know and I think business probably picks up because Vince would start figuring out something's wrong and start trying different things because he always tried different things the steroid trial was over now Vince's attention was no longer diverted now I think Vince would started figuring something out but I don't think he would have figured out the attitude error plus he didn't figure out the attitude error you know Scott Kevin figured out the attitude error I mean those guys want to start all that and if Steve doesn't have that platform and cart blotch just say what he said in Milwaukee stone cold's not born you know that was just matter as a Steve had cart blotch and also you know some some things happen with hunter getting punished and the king of the ring changing all sudden Steve now is one going over and it was Jake Roberts who's going over so all of a sudden all this awesome 316 made sense but you didn't have the cart blotch

1:22:13like we've heard the story for years and years that Vince put it all online he's more gaged and begged borrowed and deals did everything he could to just get this show on the freaking air we know it became a huge brand I mean WrestleMania is almost as big of a brand this WWE now at times it probably was bigger than the brand WWF but I'm curious if it goes poorly what's left if Vince goes out of business there's still some territories doing their thing the crockets are still around obviously you've still got Bill Watts in in business I don't know does the territory business continue to thrive does does Verne step up who becomes the number one promotion does anybody go national or does it stay territory to this day no it goes national there's no doubt about it that they went national because of technology not because of events and they went national because you know the Duma Network back in the 50s and 60s and then that faded away and so you don't really have a national network you don't have a national presence of wrestling you know until USA Network

1:23:16comes along and Joe Blanchard and and then WTPS with Ted Turner so it was about technology it wasn't about personalities somebody's going national there's no doubt about it and they're going to run all the other territories out of business are most of them out of business it wasn't just Vince McMahon the evil guy coming along and and changing the business model technology change the business model so I think what happens is you look at who was best positioned during that time crocket was really well positioned but Ted Turner I don't think there's any doubt about it you know Ted Turner changed television he learned so much from Barnett when he came in and I think Ted Turner's one that probably takes takes it all over it probably a Gallic Bill Watts ends up in a position Bruce Pritchard probably ends up somewhere you know Eddie Graham you know if he doesn't kill himself you know the suicide down there he could have certainly been in position and I don't know if you know the territory is anything to do with with that or not is a very tragic thing but

1:24:18he was a really smart guy you know the other thing is you know if David's minor it doesn't die and something like that happens it could have been Fritz because David is the one that wanted to take them national but I don't think my opinion there's not much doubt about it I think it's Ted Turner that takes the thing national and does probably a pretty good job with it you know he did a good job with baseball and did a great job with seeing it so I think Ted Turner's the one the TV guy that liked wrestling that probably would have gone national with it. Fine or no I'm throwing you fastballs here but just so we're clear it was two months prior to wrestle mania one when Eddie Graham took his own life so it was January of 85 so Florida maybe was out of the conversation yeah Florida would not have been there without Eddie Graham but but Jerry Jared is somebody that we didn't mention and there's correct correct in any window that Jerry was going to be the guy to run the WWE F and Vince's absence had he actually been convicted during the steroid trial do you think if WrestleMania flops Jerry Jared has an opportunity

1:25:24to go national because at different times he was able to take over the world class territory he had shows on ESPN was that do you think Jerry Jared could have gone national yes and I forgot about Mr. Jared and I apologize for that because but Jerry Jared was another guy who could have done that Jerry was a very smart guy and Jerry was a very ambitious guy you know he tried to take over you know Texas wrestling but he had some issues with with Kevin and you know the Von Erickson it didn't work out because a lot of those issues that happened and and maybe some of the things but I think mainly the issues that you had with with the Von Erickson and Mr. Jerry but Jerry Jared was a very ambitious guy and he's a very smart guy I think Jerry Jared could have been one of the ones one of these guys was going to take it over I mean I think they probably partner with Ted Turner is probably the most likely thing you know Joe Blanchard when when Vince started buying up assets when he bought up hyper when he bought up Hogan when he bought up USA Network you know he got that from Joe Blanchard you know I don't know if Joe Blanchard would have had the ability

1:26:29to go national but he had the TV deal to go national and I don't know if USA would have been good enough to do that but you know it was the longest running show on the Monday night for a very very long time so it might could have not could have been that way but it's probably good Jerry Jared was a guy who could have done that I do want to ask you what do you think the WWF would have looked like if Jerry Jared did get his hands on the reins in 1994 like events does get convicted and he's out Hogan's on the other channel now working for a competitor but now Jerry finds himself in the big seat we know Jeff was already coming into the company I don't know that that would have changed anything there necessarily but Jerry Jared and his style of we'll call it Memphis Rasslin could it have been adapted to the WWF on a national stage in 94 because I do feel like if you were going to shake it up and try something different I think even Vince would agree 1994 is probably the year to do it I mean he would have even admit once the trial was behind him

1:27:34that he hadn't been focused in the business had suffered but now he was ready to double down and get serious it did feel like Jerry would have brought something different to the promotion would have worked nationally in 94 against what WCW was presenting at the time in your opinion yeah it would have worked nationally you know the thing about it is the people taking a lot of that love to bash Memphis territories being a ha ha territories please always call it they drew a lot of money I mean you know Jerry Lawler selling out Memphis Coliseum for 52 straight weeks a year I mean that's unheard of I mean only Sam Martino had a run like that I mean that it's unbelievable and a lot of that is creative one of those you have a great star in Jerry Lawler but could they have done that nationally yeah 100% because people want to be entertained you know it was a different wrestling it started with Roy Welch when he came down to Tennessee and you had a complete different dynamic up north and you still did in the 60s and 70s and 80s you had a different dynamic up north you had

1:28:38a great big guys more plotting top guys and you had your faster guys down in the south and you had your heat you had your characters and things like that would that have worked yeah absolutely it's all just a matter about being entertaining I can't wait for us to do more of these but I do want to ask since we're talking about OG WWV days what if Hogan never leaves the AWA you know famously as we go back and we look in history we know that Hulk Mania really started in Minneapolis and Verne Gagne saw what was happening starts putting Hogan in the main events he's in title matches they're teasing a title switch all that's well and cool we also know that Hulk Hogan was fresh off of a rocky movie he's on the big screen and that's at a time when well that really meant something compared to the day where maybe it's not as big of a deal but celebrity was the name of the game and he was becoming one but for whatever reason when Verne starts selling Hulk Hogan t-shirts and Hulk

1:29:40Mania t-shirts where's the money brother he gets a much better bigger guaranteed offer from Vince and he jumped ship but if Hogan doesn't get pushed back on the merch he's making money hand over Vince over fist with uh with Verne he doesn't leave the AWA does that change anything yeah I think it changes a lot uh well obviously it changes a lot I think Hogan had to leave you know Verne was not going to use a movie star you know I talked to Tony Atlas recently and Tony was telling me that mr. T wanted to come and work with him and Verne said I'm not working with movie star you know just Verne didn't see that as part of his territory Verne was at a very successful territory that's not what he saw so I think Hogan would have had to leave whether he went to Texas or whether he would probably Texas he'd go boy he could have made a fortune with Fritz down there uh or whether that was Florida which he had already made a fortune down there with and he

1:30:43loved him already you know Jerry Frisco's one of the ones that started him down there I think Hogan would have had to leave and now as far as WWE what were they done obviously you know Dusty I think was the choice and I think Dusty would have done a great job uh now does does that sell out Detroit I'm not sure I don't know maybe you have a different something there because it had been a different dynamic I don't know you know it would have been a different dynamic as far as you wouldn't have this you know immobile force against there is a squad big you know but I don't think Hogan could have stayed in uh in Minnesota and I don't think it would have been happy there and I don't think his career would have done I think Hogan leaves no matter what it is going to be interesting to think about how more of these what ifs uh we can cover in the coming weeks we want to know in the comments what are some of your biggest what ifs I feel like every wrestling fan has had a conversation like this we want to start entertaining some of these on every episode for a few weeks

1:32:46to create something people talk about hey all the product is stale or the product needs new life then all of a sudden you'll do something like this and people get all mad about it whoa okay you just changed it uh I think like I think it'd be pretty cool if that were to happen but with the fans being mad I think almost unanimously they would be can I tell you I hope it happens I'm cool in an happening I look I love bearing but you know bearing is going to be fine he's good bearing is going to figure out a way to get over but yeah I'm fine with it happening I think fans you know bearings obviously a heel we're supposed to hate him yeah and I think fans want to see bearing lose the title and and any fan who would be upset that bearing Corbin or that Luliyadi won the belt they're gonna have mixed emotions because they're gonna be like well I didn't want Luliyadi to be the champ but I'm glad bearing Corbin's not the champ and that's the kind of heat that I love addressing yeah I do too and that's the kind of heat that you know thanks people want to watch more you know they don't understand you know you want to kill a territory let the fans
