Episode 29 - Mutter Slater
Mutter Slater played harmonica, flute and sang as a member of the influential British band Stackridge beginning in 1970s.
Stackridge were the first band to play and headline the world famous Glastonbury Festival. Although often categorized as a progressive rock band, their sound included themes of folk, the blues and psychedelic rock. Among the bands successful albums were their self-titled first album released in 1971 on Angel Air followed by Friendliness the following year and The Man In The Bowler Hat in 1974, which was produced by Sir George Martin and signed by Elton John and appeared regularly on BBC TV's The Old Grey Whistle Test and John Peel's radio programs.
After Stackridge, Mutter returned to a life of quiet domesticity in the Southwest of England. The songwriting and performing bug eventually got the better of him, leading to the formation of his band, The Mutter Slater Band and a return to the recording studios - Love & Hate 2006; Riding A Hurricane 2008 (produced by Billy Bragg) and 2014's
Absobloodylutely. His own fabulous brand of American Blues, Soul and R'n'B.
The band reformed in 2006 with four of the original line up Andy Davis •James Warren • Mutter Slater & Crun Walter. They released a new a Album “A Victory For Common Sense” in 2009.
