Growing up as the only daughter in a deeply religious Baptist home was an interesting experience for Kendyl. Her father was strict and adhered to the principles of Christian "Purity Culture", a fact made evident to her by all the double standards she was witnessing. As she grew older and gained more autonomy, Kendyl started to unpack years of hypocrisy, shame, and religious trauma, choosing to understand the systems that made her who she is, where it all went wrong, and how she can change the future.
