Chasen Walter's In Thru The Outdoors — Episode 1300 itto News Update & Goodbye. Machine-transcribed; use the interactive transcript above to jump the player to any line.
This is in through the outdoors and I'm your anchor Jason Walter with ITTO News. Dick Grzinski, the Griz learned how to ice fish before modern tip-ups were common or even legal. His dad taught him how to make a simple tip-up out of a willow branch, target wall I shared the video. You'll find it on Outdoor Life's YouTube channel, it's called before there were tip-ups, ice fisherman did this. The Minnesota DNR year-round catch and release bass fishing season has been misunderstood. Service season dates for bass remain the same. The rules that allow for the catch and release bass season were adopted in January. While the DNR usually has new regulations going to affect the first of March, the continuous bass season will begin as soon as the current season changes. Bass seasons will alternate between harvest seasons and catch and release seasons with no fishing closures. While there was good news for the Mommy River Wall I run, now there's bad news.
The good news? Good ice cover. The bad news? Drought. The spawn brings over a million wall I from Lake Erie to Perysburg and the Mommy area to lay eggs. Well, the region is still dealing with an extreme drought that began in the fall of last year. Less water in the river causes it to heat up faster and that can be problematic to a temperature-driven biological act. But there is better news. Fish surveys indicate there are 80 million wall I in Lake Erie this year and approximately 10-15% of those will travel up the Detroit River on the way to lakes in Claire, even Saginaw Bay. That's an ITTO news update, I'm Jason Walter and that's in through the outdoors. Be safe and thanks for listening. This is a moment I never thought would come after 1300 episodes and nearly 150,000 downloads in through the outdoors has come to a natural end. Thank you for downloading, thank you for listening. I hope you get out there real soon as for me there's no doubt I'll still be Jason Walter. Good luck and thank you.
