Ephesians 2:19 | I Belong With God

0:00When's the last time you talked with a toddler? You should definitely go find a toddler to talk to. It's great. They're wild, little people. We had our granddaughter, honorary granddaughter this weekend, and we experienced just how wild that could be. That's a great word for it. They just don't care. The way they show up in the world, it's so differently than we do. Yeah, we're kind of always considering social rules and expectations. Even if we're not always aware of it, often we feel like we have to earn our place or be good enough to be in a spot. And toddlers just don't think that way. In fact, it was so sweet this Sunday. I was serving with the high school ministry at my church, and the youth after he was up on stage speaking to all the kids, all of a sudden his three-year-old daughters started just walking through the crowd. She wasn't being disruptive, just walking up to her dad, and she walked her little self all the way up on stage and stood next to her dad. That really is sweet. It was. Her dad tussled her hair. He kind of just kept talking, and she just stood there with the bag of bugles in her hand, smiling out at everyone.

1:00Looking up at her, it made me realize, like this is how we ought to be with God. Yeah, she obviously knew she belonged standing next to her dad. She didn't have to earn that spot or perform for it. And the Bible tells us that we can act the same way with God. In Ephesians 2, verse 19, it says, you're no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God's people and also members of his household. You belong with God. You don't have to be good enough or have something offer to belong to God. This is like the one place where you don't have to perform. There's a lot of pressure that we take on as adults, but today, may you be like a three-year-old with tussled hair and a bag of bugles, confidently loved, and knowing where you belong.
