但雌蟲在交配後，必須獲得足夠的蛋白質養分，以促使體內的卵巢發育，血液正是理想的蛋白質來源
雌蟲在每次吸血後，大約可產下 75~500 粒卵，而產出的卵數量與攝取到的血液量是成正比的。
雄性的口器因為缺乏穿刺皮膚的功能，就不適合吸動物的血囉
