On July 4th, 1976, President Gerald Ford gave a speech at Independence Hall in Philadelphia in honor of the bicentennial. No one remembers it today, nor should they, because it was a July 4th speech for everyone and no one. Any modern neoconservative could have made it, and some have. But this highlights the real problems with Independence Day in American society and what we are going to face in 2026.
