In this episode we further explore being a digital nomad. 

• What is a digital nomad?
• Women are leading the way with digital nomadism
• Digital nomads are commonly portrayed as men, but a Flexjobs survey found the opposite to be true, with 70% of digital nomads identifying as female.
• How many are there? There are currently over 35 million digital nomads worldwide as of 2022.
• In the United States alone, there are 15.5 million digital nomads meaning that US digital nomads make up the vast majority of the nomad population. This is a huge result, considering in 2019 only 7.3 million Americans identified as digital nomads.
• Between 2019 and 2020, the digital nomad movement grew by a huge 49% with 10.9 million nomads from the US.
• Why is the growth so fast?
• The top 5 reasons most people become digital nomads are:

1. 73% said they wanted a better work-life balance
2. 68% said they love the freedom of the lifestyle
3. 55% said they just love to travel
4. 43% said they wanted to avoid office politics
5. 37% said they had a desire to explore other cultures

• But most interestingly, the top 2 are to do with freedom and work-life balance. The flexibility to choose what you want is something that most digital nomads seem to value.
• Nomad demographics
• The average age of a digital nomad is 32 years old.
• Most people start their digital nomad journey at 29. Ironically, the average age of burnout is 32 years old with most people starting to feel the negative effects of corporate work-life balance at the age of 29.
• Marital status

               The majority, 66% of digital nomads said that they were single.

• Education: 

               High School 10%

               Bachelor’s 54%

               Master’s 33%

               PhD 3%

• Employed 35%
• Self-Employed 46%
• Other 19%
• A combined 33% of nomads work in the marketing industry and 31% in the creative industry.
• The median salary of a digital nomad is $85,000 per year and the average salary is $120,512 per year.
• Digital nomads contribute about $787 billion dollars a year to the global economy.
