Born on the island of Lesbos, the Barbarossa brothers started their maritime careers as privateers, navigating the dangerous waters of the Mediterranean, where rival empires and merchant states vied for control. Following his death, Hayreddin, known as "Barbarossa", rose to prominence, securing his place as Kapudan Pasha (Grand Admiral) of the Ottoman Navy under Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent.
