前幾年台灣小學生流行玩甲蟲王者，當時去百貨公司都會看每個小學生在機台前面，每個小朋友手中都拿著卡片。
現在日本有小學生研究獨甲仙，成為現實生活中的「甲蟲王者」！
日本的獨角仙是「大和兜蟲」的亞種，學名是Trypoxylus d. septentrionalis，牠們是夜行性動物，每天到日落後，就會飛出來棲息在櫟樹上，從晚上到午夜數量逐漸增加，夜晚是獨角仙活動最旺盛的時候；在去年的暑假，琦玉縣的小學生柴田亮小朋友在庭院中白蠟樹觀察獨甲仙，在2個月中，每天對觀察3～5次，記錄獨角仙的數量以及活動狀況，發現獨角仙會在大白天時，進行覓食以及交配等活動！
