Ep. 203: Florida vs. Campbell Preview with J.D. PicKell | Gators Online Show

Special guest JD Pequell, a national analyst and pundit for on three sports. We love him. He does it. So it's such great work and has always been a good friend to this show and to Gators Online subscribers. So JD Pequell will join us later in the show. We're going to go over kind of the things we learned from all the press conferences this week with John Somerall, Buster Falkner, Brad White, a bunch of players and maybe a little recap of last week. We've already done that but some of

1:03that will certainly come up. Zach, anything you want to add before we get going on Madelo? Yeah, no, I'm just I'm glad we got another game, man. It's football seasons in full swing. We got NFL back last night. That was a great game. Superbowl rematch. Yeah. So look, man, coming off last week's game, you know, you didn't know it looked good on the surface for the most part. The offense was lights out. The defense, you know, work and progress. But it's hard to complain about a 45 point win when you know, I picked them to win by 28 and some people picked them to win by less than 20. You didn't really know what you were going to get. It was we. I was hoping they would score 50. Yeah. Can they get 21st downs? Can they score 40 points? Because you really don't know. And usually in scrimmages now in scrimmage number two, the offense apparently did pretty well. The pre in the preseason. However, a lot of times in August, the defense wins the day in scrimmages because they know what the offense is doing. So for Florida to go out there and put up 66 points, the most points by a Florida team in the season opener since scoring

2:04seven against New Mexico State in 1994. It was nice, right? And what was the vibe of John Someral when he was talking about the offense earlier this week? Yeah, absolutely. I mean, a lot to like, obviously, about the way that that unit started. I think Aaron Filo showed his sharpness, showed kind of all the things that he displayed throughout the offseason about his ability to operate the offense. No where to go with the football, make good decisions, make good throws. I mean, he delivered the ball real well. I saw a Spurrier's podcast this week, he then he was like, there's nothing I could do to improve his throw emotion. Like that guy delivers a good ball. He's decisive and then certainly, Jaden Ball in the backfield is a show. But I think the biggest thing that they were pleased about both him and Buster Faulkner was the wide receiver play, especially after Eric Singleton's injury and then the perimeter blocking that those receivers have, but also the tight ends. Like there was just all across the board. I think that they were

3:05pleased with the offensive positions. All right, some of the things you learned on offense this week, what would you say? I mean, you just mentioned a couple of them, the tight end blocking, the receiver blocking. But obviously, there's a first time starting quarterback. So what did the Gator staff, what did Buster Faulkner, what did Jon somewhere like about what Aaron Filo did and what were maybe some areas that they thought he could improve on? Yeah, first of all, he did a really good job of executing, right? I mean, you had 11 offensive drives and you scored on 10 of them and touchdowns on nine of them. So just the operation and efficiency was at a really good pace, completed 76% of his throws. He got them into good situations, made good reads in terms of where to go on some of his RPOs. You know, there were maybe some throws that he would like back and that the coaches kind of pointed out that weren't maybe his best balls. I mean, not a lot. But obviously, you're going to nitpick on that stuff. You know, the interception, you know, while it wasn't on him,

4:12maybe he could throw, have a little bit better ball placement there to make it easier catch on Micah, but they still put that on the receiver, not on Aaron. You know, so they're just, I think want to see him continue to kind of now he's going out and had a great first start, created some momentum, put some things on tape. I think continue that obviously against a Campbell team that he should be able to do whatever he wants again, against, you know, clean up some of the maybe throws and mechanics that he was off on again. It was not a lot and just have himself feeling great going into week three at Auburn. Yes, Zach Aaron Filo and his first start with the Gator second career start 16 at 21 275 yards three touchdowns. Of course, the one interception you just mentioned, which John Sumerall said wasn't on him. He had one rushing touchdown, 20 rushing yards on six carries. And John Sumerall, I believe it was John Sumerall, maybe Buster Fockter mentioned this two-zack and you just touched on this. He knew when to tuck it. Yeah. And run. And I think what we

5:12learned was, so during the preseason when Aaron Filo was named the starter, I think a lot of people and we're all guilty of this said, well, obviously his knowledge of the offense was clearly the difference, but you know, can he throw, you know, the other guy, Trumel Jones obviously throws a beautiful ball. But what we learned was that yes, he can throw. He made all the throws, but also you did get to see that knowledge, that institutional knowledge or systematic knowledge of Buster Fockner's offense. It all came into focus. So yes, he could make the throws. Yes, he understood where to put people and all that stuff. And so it just was an interesting, I thought it was a pretty solid performance, but we, you know, we got affirmation that yes, this is the guy that understands what Buster Fockner's trying to do, but we also learned because quite frankly, we hadn't seen him throw a lot. We saw him throw in the spring game. You and I saw him throw it practices, but until you get out there into the bright lights of the swamp, you don't really know. And it looked like he could make the throws, but not only make him with velocity and some of the shorter ones,

6:12John Someral said he's struggling on and that'll be something they work on. But not only velocity, but the timing. I think there was one some kind of deep, intermediate crossing route with Vernel Brown, the third that he hit him, you know, he started on the left side of the field and he caught it on the right side of the field. It was just a beautiful timing play I thought and I just thought he was, I thought he was solid, man, I just thought he was sure. Yeah, yeah, something to build on. He said his, his, he said his favorite play of the game was the go ball, the Tija Abrams, but I thought his most impressive play of the game was the scramble of aiding pressure and then finding Duke Clark on that outlet pass for the touchdown. I mean, that was just great pocket work by Aaron Filo ability to keep his eyes and locate the receiver. I mean, it's just great quarterback play. But again, there were still some things that maybe he left on the field, throw throws or plays that he would want back to one that I noticed on film and I know others pointed it out as

7:17well, but it was the opening drive. The, the first pass that he threw to Dallas Wilson, that was a nice, you know, to the left side. Good throw. He ripped that ball. I mean, it was, it was a, it was a great pass. But man, I don't know if he missed him or, or, or, you know, look, it's, first of all, it was opening drive, by the way. It's just probably only what is third, third or fourth play as a gator. So maybe he's not just trying to let it rip so early, but man, he had TJ Abrams streaking down the middle of the field wide open. TJ even kind of put his hands up a little bit. Just, you know, disappointed that he didn't get that shot because that would have been a walk in touchdown if Filo would have fired that one. I'm sure he saw that one on when we went back and watched it and it ate him up. He's, and he's, he wants those throws. He wants to take that shot. He wants to push it down the field. So he'll be looking to do that on Saturday and, and maybe out of the gate, right? Like I think that, that first drive, they might try to push one down the field.

8:20Zach, another thing we learned about the gator offense this week from John Someral is that yes, they do script the first drive of this of a game. They do. Some teams do, some don't. But they do. However, they had to deviate a little bit from that. Zach, because FAU drove deep into Florida to territory. Well, I say drove deep. They got to the 35 and threw an interception inside the 10. But Florida had to start in its own what six yard line instead of like the 20, 25, 30. So they changed it up a little bit. I thought that was interesting. Any other offensive takeaways, anything else you thought you thought you learned this week from talking to the offensive guys? Yeah. One thing for sure, but I want to shout out to, uh, boom, boom hour. Yeah, boom, boom hour. He pointed out that that was actually singleton on that play. That was not Abrams that I just mentioned that through his hand up. So you got to see singleton speed there as well. Um, so he, he will not play, um, uh, this Saturday. Hopefully he can be back

9:20against Auburn. But you know, the, the biggest thing that we learned from talking to Buster Falkner about maybe something that we didn't see or know or understand how they felt was the tight ends. Like I think they were pleasantly surprised with the tight end play, but one guy specifically, and that was a mere Jackson wrote about it at Gators Online last night. But like he said that coming out of the game, the one thing Buster Falkner felt was we got to find ways to play seven more. That that's just what the tape said that he showed up. He's earning more playing time. He, he had a catch in the game, but he's blocking better obviously and learning how to play the position. I mean, the guy was basically you one saw him Keith is basically a receiver in high school. So it looks like he's potentially trending to tie them one, but then at the same time Luke Carp�� made an amazing catch, uh, a 19-yard perceptive position, incredible adjustment. And then, you know, we heard all offseason about Luke, uh, Lakota DePree being the best blocker at the position.

10:23We saw that, uh, in the game on Saturday. So like all three of those guys made plays. Again, a mere Jackson is the one that seems to be trending that Buster's really excited about. And that's good to hear because look going into the year, going into the offseason, even with all the discussion about the offensive line quarterback, Titan was without question the weakest link on offense. And if those guys are starting to step up, keep that boat as well. Yeah, the interesting thing about the Titan position at Florida was they have a bunch of guys that each have kind of different skill sets. So you say, oh, that's great. We got everything covered. On the other hand, if everybody can, if Lakota DePree has been identified by an opponent as just a blocker, they know what he's going to do when he's going to go in the game. If they identify a mere Jackson as just a receiver, they sort of know what his role is going to be when he goes to the game. So that's why it's so important at the Titan position to have guys that can do a lot of different things. That's why it's important to have a running back that can do a

11:23bunch of different things and you're not having to sub out. Okay, this guy's going in because it's third down. He's a pass catcher. No, you want a guy like Jane Bawd that can do everything. So defense can't really figure out what's coming. So if a mere Jackson becomes this guy that can also block like he did the other night because they've always believed he can catch the ball, Zach. They always believe he had receiver skills. If you put that together, that gives the defense a lot more to think about. They can't just pigeonhole him into one category when they see him run onto the field. So great stuff there. Defensively, Zach. Okay, this was interesting. They said that coaches, John Somerall said like a lot of fans were not happy with all the completions. I mean, I think there were 34 of them for 275, 276. I can't remember how many yards that that FAU had, but it was well under what they averaged last year, 340. But there were a lot of completions. And so the fans were like, what's going on in us too? Like why can't they get pressure? Why aren't the DBs playing up? And we got some explanations for that from John Somerall

12:27this week. And I want to start with Zach, the pressure because Zach, Zach, FAU did run plays very fast. So that made it harder to get pressure. It did. And we also got to hear from Brad White as well. So it's a treat, first of all, that we get to get both of the coordinators every week, because we can ask them these questions about things that came from the game. So yeah, as far as the pressure goes, they were not completely ineffective. They had two sacks and I quarterback careers, but they were disappointed with the results. The biggest thing that Somerall and White both pointed out is simply guys needing to strain more. Harder finish plays. I think that there were some times where technique mechanics were off. That was kind of what Brad White alluded to. He said that he quoted the defensive lineman coming in, having long faces on Sunday after

13:31watching the film and saying, man coach, all of that bad technique showed up on film. And White's response was, hey man, like you let the game get bigger than the training. Once the bullet started flying, all of your training and technique went out of the window. So that's just things that they got to get coached up on. Again, there were times where they did strain. I mean, they played by Brendan Bette, the force, Fumble and Goal line stand was incredible strain on that. I mean, that's that's what they're talking about. But you need more of it. Now some of the past rush also too is a byproduct of their tempo, their quarterback. He gets the ball out quick. He knows what to do. He's got great pocket presence. He moves well. Like all that stuff impacted them not being able to get home as much as they would have liked. So nonetheless, they still want more. They're trying to do more and they've addressed it. And then the other issue, like you said, was this it was in

14:31the secondary and obviously plays by DJ Coleman and and and Dijon Johnson, who was played the best at the cornerback position in week one. But there were some other issues as well, Keith. As I did, did Florida have any defensive linemen dribble the ball between their legs before they tried to rush the passer? I saw an FSU player trying to do that the other night. I don't believe we didn't see it. I don't believe that took place. I think Gerald Chattano would allow that. Okay, so again, we mentioned that Florida, you know, people kept saying we're seeing it on Twitter in real time during the game on our message board. Why is Florida playing so soft on third and eighth? Why are the DBs back so far? Why are they not playing press coverage? The explanation for that was that they basically said John Summer on Brad White that it was a situational awareness issue. The players weren't communicating well all that. And there's probably a lot of truth to that. However, I kept thinking, well, why didn't they just tell them after like the fifth time? I mean,

15:32they're right there on the sideline. Why didn't they scream? But it's a bright white literally setting that they were screaming at them. They couldn't hear them. They couldn't hear them. Interesting. Well, they're going to be playing in loud venues. So they've got to figure that out. Well, they're going to be playing in a swamp. So they're not going to get that issue when they go on the road. And it's not just that. It's more of the situational awareness of the technique, of the training, of the coaching, of knowing, hey, it's like it's all right if you want to line up off the ball. But whether it's five yards off, seven yards off, whatever. But then to back pedal and give them that space, give them that completion on third down, that was the issue. And there were times later in the game where adjustments weren't were made or a guy like Dijon Johnson was in. And you saw him even being off the ball when the when it was snapped. He's flatfooted. He's sitting there waiting. He's not giving up any more cushion. He's seeing what the quarterback is

16:32doing. He's seeing what the receiver's doing. And he's making a play at that landmark. That's basically his landmark. But there are just cornerback principles that those guys should know that should be ingrained in their brain of, yeah, we're not backpettling on third and one when we're lined up, you know, seven yards off the ball. Like we're not doing that. So that goes back to a lack of awareness, a lack of communication, a lack of experience. And then a lack of training. Like in that falls on the coaches and, you know, those guys owned it now. But it's not like they were blaming the players, but they also, you know, some are all said, man, I thought we were past that. I thought we were past having to like, you know, relay that to these guys. But at the same time, Javari flowers and Ben Hanks are still young. They did not play a lot until the end of the season. So they're going to have still some growing pains and some things that they're not

17:35completely doing perfectly. And then you're still going to get that with Corminamik Lane sum too as well. Yeah. I think Dijon again, being the veteran, he seemed to play the best at the cornerback position and understand what the coaches were asking them to do, understand down and distance, situational football. Hey, I need to do this here. It's not just getting the call and making sure you have your assignment down. It's just being aware, being a football player. So it was a lot of things that they pointed to wasn't necessarily just one issue. I also, again, they were clearly trying to keep things in front of them, not let FAU beat them deep. But there was just times where that was, that was too much of an issue. And they just gave up too many passes, too many completions in first downs. Definitely wasn't a lot of sugar coating in the press conferences this week. Was there Zach? No, no, it's refreshing to just kind of hear those guys. They will point out their player issues, but then they take ownership as well. Like it's not just,

So, polymarket right now has Florida up favorite to win by 49 and a half points this week over the Campbell. Campbell's on Campbell was two and 10 last year and you're thinking, okay, FCS team two and 10. That ain't too great, right? Well, they're two and 0 this year and they're still in FCS team, but they're two and 0. They've already matched last year's win total. And Zach, they're scoring points and moving the ball. They beat East Tennessee 4937 and then they beat Kerwin Bell's Western Carolina team. I think that surprised many people. 28 to 19 just over the weekend. Campbell's averaging 521 points a game, five or 21 yards a game, not points that, allowing 427 yards a game. So, moving the ball, but giving up a lot of yards, they ran, they play fast like FAU, maybe not as fast, but fast. 73 plays run in game 183 and game two.

21:47Camden Sixkiller related to the famous University of Washington quarterback who played a role in the original longest yard. Camden Sixkiller, a senior, he's passed for 673 yards, four touchdowns, three interceptions. Last year he threw for 2100 yards, Zach, but here's the big difference. A year ago, he averaged only six yards per attempt. This year, that number is up to 7.6 yards per attempt. So, this is a team that's getting better. They're going to create a little bit of a challenge to Florida. The roster is obviously not going to be as good and it's not going to be as good as FAU's either, but they do play fast. Again, these are games that are getting Florida ready for teams that play fast in the SEC. This is actually the perfect schedule, if you think about it, for Florida. They've got these two, you know what I mean? Go ahead, Zach. That's what I felt. Especially after seeing it play out the way that it has, would it have been, would it have been benefits to playing Campbell, Week 1 and FAU Week 2, maybe, but the good thing about this is, like, you would have got nothing from that this matchup in Week 1. Like, maybe there would have been

22:52some issues that showed up that they can work on, but it's not as much as showed up against FAU. So, the good thing for the Gators is that they can go out in a game like this, especially defensively, where they want to shore up some things and get a good enough of a look against Campbell offense that, like you said, Keith is going to push the pace, can make plays in the passing game, can put up points, and get, have an opportunity to iron out issues and address some of the things that they need to get better at and get a good look while doing it. Certainly not an SEC level look, but it's Baron going against their scout team. Like, this is an opportunity for another tune-up before you get into SEC play and your first two opponents both push the pace. Auburn's going to run tempo without Scolish and Ole Miss is going to run tempo as well. So, like, you're getting yourself ready for those games and it's much tougher test in Week 1 than what they're going to see on Saturday, but still enough that they can feel like they got better from

23:54Week 1 to Week 2 and again, ironed out some of their issues that they had against the Alice. I need to point out one thing back to that Polly market ad. I got to get this right. So, when you go look at the description of this video, everybody, and you look up Polly market, it'll give you the details there. Alright, Zach, look, again, another test. You're going to have to slow down this team. You're going to have to, I mean, a test more like a quiz, obviously, but they do play fast, as you mentioned. What about offensively? What's going to be Florida's goal in this game? Because, you know, come on up to 66 points. And John Somerall even said, he said, this team, Campbell, they're going to play a bunch of guys deep. They're going to try to keep everything in front of it. So, he even said, look, this may not be a game that Florida is able to throw deep. So, what are Florida's objectives this Saturday in the swamp against Campbell? No high snaps. That is priority number one. I mean, in a game where you put up 66 points and

25:01624 yards, there's not a lot to nitpick. And when you had one turnover and it wasn't on your quarterback, like, you know, what are you going to point to? Well, it was the five bad snaps according to John Somerall that Harrison Moore had for them, which came on a play where he was going to make the same block, trying to execute the same block as soon as he snapped. So, his, his footwork, his approach there, how he was trying to execute that clearly through off his snapping. So, that's something that they've addressed this week in practice, but that's something that has to get cleaned up before they go to Auburn, before they get an SEC play. And look, he's not going to have a perfect snap perfectly every game for the rest of the season. He might have another bad snap here there, but you can't have five. And you can't have a first and goal after a 63 yard play where you just hit a bomb and then you snap it over Bosshead in the wildcat and you lose 20 yards. Like that, yeah, that cannot happen. It could happen in week one, obviously. And you got

26:05a way with it, but you need to clean it up to be honest, no disrespect to the camels, but whatever block that Harrison Moore is going to make after he snaps the ball. In this matchup this week, it shouldn't be stressing him to the point that he's not snapping it well, right? Like he should be able to begin every snap off comfortably and then be able to go execute and match up against whoever he's facing on the defensive line this week. Now, look, there's going to be other times where he's going to see some SEC knows tackles and defensive linemen that are going to stress him right before he's getting that ball off, but this is a week where that should happen. And really, I mean, that and the one fall start that they had on the Mecca, you Gorgi, I don't know what else I can point to. And then don't have any turnovers. But just keep doing what they're doing, but the number one key offensively is clean up those snaps and get that corrected before you start conference

27:05play. I don't know if this is a key to the game because Florida's going to win, right? I mean, I think we can agree. Yeah, when we say keys to the game, this is Florida's keys. Like they're competing against themselves as much as Campbell this week. A lot of young guys did not get to play last week, right? I mean, they they want to establish depth. So we're going to see more guys play this week's act correct? Yes. 100%. Who are some guys that you think we're going to get you that are going to get more action? And I think defensively they mentioned something about the star position, maybe trying to do more there. Yeah, obviously getting Laganz a hayward, a guy like him some more playing time. I think I think some of the those young freshmen corners, right? C.J. Broner, Hester, like I think Ty Jackson, he did not play a lot on on Saturday. So I'd like to see him get some action, you know, guys like K.J. Ford, you know, some of these other guys that made their debut, but didn't really play that much Justin Williams, you know, he he played, but I don't

28:07I don't know that he had any offensive snaps. And if he did, you know, he didn't have any balls come his way. So like it'd be great to see him. And then maybe, you know, a little bit more Trimel Jones, right? He got two series and took the offense down and scored touchdowns at a great job executing. So having him get an opportunity, maybe he gets, you know, another series or two, but it's going to be interesting to see him when any part of the board can put up in this game. Yeah, I'm actually I actually think with Trimel Jones, I could be wrong here. I mean, remember, going back to a week ago, John Summerall said before the game, somebody asked him during his weekly gator talk show, they said, how much is Trimel going to play? He said, what the game dictates that? He said, but also remember, this stuff, we got a guy that doesn't have a ton of starting experience at quarterback in Aaron Filo. And he needs to build continuity and chemistry with the offense. So, you know, here we're all thinking, okay, it's a blowout. You get the other guy in, they're thinking, okay, we'd like to get the other guy in, but we got big games coming up.

29:09The more reps, the more Saturday reps with Filo, the better. So what's more important, building that, they got to balance the two, building that continuity and chemistry between Filo and the ones, but also getting Trimel Jones ready in case he has to play. So it is a balancing act there. So I think that said, I do think that Trimel Jones probably gets more series this week and that's just my gut. That's just my gut feeling on this. And you know, I want to see what he can do too. And with the problem is now he's going to be coming in and he's never really going to get an opportunity with the ones until he, unless he ever is the guy that has to play with the ones. So that's a one small minor thing. However, the fact that he's getting valuable reps in that stadium is significant too. Well, JD Pekel, for those that may not know, I can't believe anybody would know. He's our national analyst, pundit expert, college football expert, and we know JD well. We spent some time with him at Tampa at the SEC Media Days, but he comes on our show often and gives us some great insights. JD, we just wanted to pick your brain on your thoughts on the Gators. So, obviously, that's why you're here. Zach, take it away. Absolutely, JD. We'll just hear early impressions, man, of the 2026 version of the four to Gators. What we got to see in week one on a John Summeral. I know it's FAU, but man, JD ball look good, huh? Like seeing it and downhill. Seeing it. So, that's the no-dust statement of like JD ball really good to football. Okay, cool. Go ahead, like double check that box. But to see the offensive line get the push that they did, I think that should be pretty encouraging. It's funny, like week one for a lot of these teams. We're just putting

But I always say I thought the physicality and the urgency you saw from Florida was refreshing. JD, what was your biggest question, Mark, with Florida? Your biggest concern with Florida coming into the season? And how do you think if that concern gets answered, if that question gets answered, how much does that change what you think the potential for this team is? Yeah, I mean, honestly, talking to y'all a lot throughout the off season has been really helpful for me. Been able to get an inside pulse for what's going on in Gainesville. But, maybe like the more we talk about it, there's a lot of what I call face cards for Florida where like any given

32:19Saturday, hey, our wide receiver room, we can involve them correctly. Like, they might be worth the football game. Jayden, Bob, we throw down that face card any given Saturday, like, if he's rolling and he's able to do what he does best, which is being involved in multiple ways throughout the football game as a pass catcher getting down hills as a ball carrier, he could lose the football game. So I say all that to lead into your question, if we can't access those things, I look at the offensive line because I truly believe now, Aaron Phyla, we'll see what he is as we progressed throughout the season. I don't think Buster Faulkner would bet year one for him in Gainesville on a guy he didn't trust with a good bit of authority. So there's that trust factor there for me paired with the only question of, hey, offensive line, can we maximize these face cards around what I think to be like a stable piece at quarterback? So that's it for me. It can be offensive line, allow us to access what I think this team really has under the end. Well, we're entering week two, Jayden. And you know, you mentioned facing some of these teams

33:23in the week one that maybe some fans take for granted. Well, Florida fans can't take in-state matches for granted. They literally lost to usF last week, last year in a week too. And I remember you coming out last season. I remember the graphic said, I'm out. I'm out. Yeah. It was like you knew right then and there this is done. This is not going to work. To think about where Florida football was then and where it is now, you've gotten a chance to sit down with John Summeral, have him on your show. Just what do you think about that higher and kind of what he's done to rejuvenate a program that had a low like that losing that home to USF? Well, it's been so fun talking to you all throughout the off season because when I check in with you guys and pick your brain, oh, hey, what's going on? What's the feeling gains bill? Hey, what's practice like? And every single thing that we're talking to to use that or you Keith, like the common thread is, hey, we'll see how good they are. They got a talented roster. But like practice feels different, like temperature around the building feels different, urgency,

34:25energy feels different. And it's tough to have this conversation without, you know, throwing strays, building eight years away and dunking on him in the pain. But like the reality is, I think at a place like Florida, like you need to be down to cut your left arm off and go bleed out at the 50 for a win. And maybe the Indian would have done that in a more subtle way. But John Summeral is talking about what he may or may not be doing if Florida doesn't win six gains. And so like just to have that energy and that intensity, I'm a huge believer that persona of leadership in college football is persona of your football team. I think it's why you see different teams across the country, whether it be LSU embracing like this, this villain role, we see Oregon play with great urgency and intensity. I think that's the direct reflection of who your head coach is. And so for Florida not to have someone running the show that I think matches what that place needs and historically has had when they're at their best, that fires me up. So it's week one, which I hate that we keep having to say it's week one because we're trying to like kind of guard our hearts collectively here. There's PTSD around games, Bill JD. They know you got to have it. But I

35:30will just say personality feels different in personality. I don't think should every underestimated when it comes to a success in college football. Zach, you can handle it. Okay. I got another one for JD. Look, for Gator's online fans and listeners, they got to hear about JD before anybody else. Thanks to our point, Nick, he kind of brought JD to Florida fans way back in the day. You know, back before he was hosting the show, man, he was breaking down film for us and those great times. And I always remember that JD and appreciate that. But I say all that to say, you know what good offense looks like and you know what good offensive play calling and coordinating looks like. How much of a treat is it for Florida fans to have Buster Faulkner and Gainesville and just have him get his hands on this offense? Well, one I appreciate that shout out to start that whole that and that makes me feel really good. And I appreciate you all welcoming me before

But honestly, I'm gonna answer your question like in a word, just like creativity and intentionality is what I think you get with Buster Faulkner because I think every every offensive coordinator when they take the job, they say the exact same thing. Well, I don't want to confine our scheme. We're going to adapt our scheme to our players. And like it's one thing to say that. But we saw Buster Faulkner last year use Haynes King as a battering ram and go a lot of play action deep shot stuff because that was what they had in the arsenal. Like you can say it, but until you show me that, I'm gonna have to say a little bit to actually believe you. And so we'll see how this offense develops. But same the way they utilize Jaden Bond that first game. Single is gonna ask of Aaron Fylo here going forward. Like I put a lot more weight behind those words for a Buster Faulkner. So like the intention of we're going to use our playmakers the correct way and try to involve our best players in every single facet of this game is I think like a a good faith I have as it stands right now. And then

37:30from a creativity perspective, I just love how much Buster Faulkner will force defenses to communicate pre snap. Because I mean, he's a wizard at will trade the tight ends. We'll give you some pre snap looks with the movement motion wise. Like he does so much that forces a lot of like this to have to be going on pre snap. And I mean, yeah, we all understand this man. If you're having to communicate a few moments before that football is snapped, there's a greater likelihood. We have some miscommunication. It's like, Hey, I'm checking out of the grocery store right now. I need to know what kind of eggs you want. If I'm hearing that as I'm checking out, there's a pretty good chance. I'm not getting the correct eggs. Pretty good chance. We're not on the same page defensively, which is how big plays happen. So I think that that part of it to me is going to be a lot of fun to watch as it evolves for Florida. JD, you got to watch Florida last weekend. But you also got to watch Auburn and Baylor. It's a small sample size. It's one game. But he was definitely watching Baylor. We know that from what you saw from those two games, does that change any way you think about Florida Auburn next weekend? That's a great question. First of all, thank you. Yeah, Keith,

38:38ask great. Not yet. Not yet. Yeah, I mean, you talk about hard stuff. I'm back here panicking. I've got to do an ad read. I'm pretty good at it. But to answer your question, man, I'm doing my very best to enjoy week one responsibly. Like I did this whole thing on my own social platform. Like, hey, week one's awesome because we get football back and we all want to have definitive takes and plan to flag on what we saw week one. It's why you saw everyone put LSU number one in their rankings after they just beat the brakes off Clemson. I'm like, Hey, that was great. Clemson might come to suck just overall, like, let's just let's give it a little bit time here. So I have done my best to not change my stance on too much across the country. Auburn Florida being one of those. But we'll see what they look like this this will come in a week and one of the things that really disappointed me with Auburn against Baylor was not just like the lack of cohesion with a bunch of players that had all played together at USF and played at a high level. Like, I didn't see the same like physicality that I

39:39thought Auburn had been preaching for some time under Alex Bolich. Like, especially on the perimeter, I saw receivers like taking on contact from defensive backs. I saw tight ends not really getting their face in the family. It's a lot of stuff from like, Hmm, if we're going to try to run the football, the way that we say we want to run the football, like our skill players better be willing to enable to mix it up. And so I didn't see that which gave me some hesitation. But again, week one we'll see. But previously, I believe I picked Auburn to win that football game in the preseason with it being, you know, as early as it is and with all the continuity Auburn has. But you know, we'll we'll see what week two is and we'll see if there's a change in temperature for Auburn going into the third week of season. No, Donna, obviously we don't need to pick from you this week. But moving forward beyond even the SEC opener at Auburn, like, like as you broke down for the schedule, kind of gave your outlook. What do you feel like are the key games for them this year that could swing their season one way or another? I know that Missouri game is one that's very interesting.

40:44Going to Columbia, obviously you got the big games in the swamp against Ole Miss and Oklahoma. And then the tough ones against Texas and Georgia. Start in terms of which one I'm looking forward to, which one I have for. Yeah, but like which which games you feel like could swing for the season one way or another? Like that they they really need to to try to get wins in to kind of have the year that they want. You know one that I've had sort of here for a minute, Zach. Maybe we've talked about this. So stop me from repeating myself. But there's a lot of juice around Ole Miss and LSU and Kifitz returned to Oxford. And like even if Ole Miss wins that game, like just the amount of energy that you will have expended to be LSU and just the emotional high it'll be like it'll be Oxford may burn down if they be LSU. On the flip side if LSU comes in there and beats them, kind of the same song, different genre, different tune if you will. Sure it'll be a really emotionally expensive game. And so I say that to say in terms of places I wouldn't want to go after playing

41:46whatever one perceives to be the game of the year, it be Gainesville, Florida. So I would go to the swamp after that. I just think that spot is so right for the picking in our preseason. I picked Florida actually to be Ole Miss in the spot. There we go. I'll copy all that now. I don't think Ole Miss is that physical up front now defensively. Like I said all offseason, I think they gave it 4.5 a carry a year ago. Those things persisted against Louisville. I think the Jaden Baud downhill, the swamp, you got won't back down playing late in that game. I think all those things now. I think that's a game for Florida. If you can be the team, that was in the semi finals the playoff a year ago. With that due to quarterback in front of that shameless. Like forget the optics externally. I think the way a locker room feels about themselves internally. After getting a win like that, a little bit of swag, like a little o'conome Gregor strut from the people out there in Gainesville. I think I think that go a long way for a first year outfit. And we all know man, momentum is a dangerous, dangerous thing. And Florida could bottle it up in a really big way with the win in that spot. JD, I always hear people say college football is better if Miami is good. College football is

42:49better if Southern cows get it. I just want your opinion. Are comments like that legit? And if so, is college football better if Florida is good? You know what I think? So I understand like the verbage there when people say better. I like to just use the word fun. Like I think college football is more fun when you have the Coliseum rock and out there in Los Angeles when you have the swamp rock. And so to answer your question, like I think college football truly is more fun when you got to really pay attention to Florida. And you have to see what that logo is doing every Saturday. And you have to account for what it is to go into the swamp more so than you even do right now. So yeah, I think it is a thing where like college football is more fun when like some of these fans, not even brands, but like fan bases are activated. Because like me, we all know you run into that across the space. Oh, just this logo by his brand by. It's just like no, not really. It's just fun to have the biggest crowd in college football, dialed in and excited and passionate in a positive way about what their football team is. Like I know this is going to be popular to say this on this show.

43:52But like it's just sad what's going on at Florida State right now. Like for me, as someone who just covers the sport at a national, like it's just sad to see that place look so pathetic. And so even Florida fans, I mean, like you're probably looking forward to the last game of the season to beat the brakes off of them, whoever's their head coach. But it's just like, it's just I do have like for the first time in a minute here, like some sympathy for Florida state of like, what are guys? What are what are we doing? So so I took that a totally different direction. You ask key, but it is better. I think it is more fun. Well, I did. I just want to follow up. I would say 10 out of 10 Gators online subscribers are not feeling any empathy for Florida State right now. I think we're happy. Pretty content with where things are. In fact, they would like to see it get a little worse quite frankly. It's not just that possible. I see a lot of hey, keep microveil in the call list. I've had the best part about that is I get one more question for you, JD. But the best part about that is a war chance started this. They put this like pull out on their message board about

44:58what what should happen with Mike Norville in Florida fans that the Gators online message board. They found it and you could they could vote on the pole. It was like when it was the voting was done. There was only like a five or 10 vote difference on whether to fire him immediately or let him finish out his contract. So the Gators did a great job trolling speaking of trolling another guy who does a great job trolling Lane Kiffin. You mentioned the Ole Miss LSU game that'll happen. I just before we let you go, you covered obviously Cox football nationally for on three. I got to get your reaction, take thoughts on this whole fiasco. I guess it's almost now coming to an end. But just the story that was and I know I speak for a lot of Florida fans. You know, they're glad that fiasco was not taking place in Gainesville. I was going to say like the fact that he's at LSU in in not Florida as good as the first year or the first game rather was for LSU. Like I just I wonder I wonder how this would

Like if think about this, we've had Lane Kiffin in Baton Rouge in the college football world for what like seven, eight months, whatever it ends up actually being here. Time for us, you know, talking about this. The headline is LSU being to kick that of the SEC is a real thing since he's like to go along with all the other madness talking about LSU being kicked out of the SEC. That is such a jarring headline and imagine if that was Florida. Imagine if Lane Kiffin's trying to bring day corn right in his Abyan Harris to Gainesville and we're like, hey, are they going to kick Florida out of the SEC? Which I think we all understand was posturing and like tough guy talk. But yeah, that's a roundabout way to say it is if nothing else entertaining. I think that leaks whether you want to call it intentionally or not, leak tap time speech he had against Clemson is a good peek into like the psyche of Lane Kiffin. Like genuinely loves K outcomes. So, so Florida should be able to dominate more defensively than they did. They should be able to, you know, get more pressure from the defensive line. So I think that that's something that we'll definitely see. You know, maybe Jaden Woods gets his first sack of the season. I also think that we're going to see multiple turnovers in this game. You know, Florida got three last week, including an incredible goal line stand that I mentioned by Brendan Bet. Two picks, one of them, or both of them forced by DJ Coleman. One of them, one of them, we could have been a pick six. So, and then offensively, man, it'll be interesting to see how many carries Jaden

I could potentially see him being out for the whole entire second half of this game, depending on the yardage and carries and pitch count that he's at. But I think they probably like to save him in the second half. And then, you know, last but not least, I think that we will see some more receivers get involved because I do think Florida is going to have an opportunity to get a big lead in this game. So I think some other guys will make some catches and show up on Saturday. Does Jaden Bob pass 100 yards in this game, Zach? 100%. 100%. 100%. I'm not really thinking because you know, what if he only gets five carries, you know, I think they're going to, I agree with you. I see him going over, but, you know, we don't know. 54:21You know, so if they're going to, if the plan for Campbell is to have a bunch of guys playing deep, that leaves, that leaves some space in the middle for Jaden Bob to get 16, 17, 18 yards per carry. It'll be interesting. The atmosphere, Zach was incredible last week. It, would you agree with that? Unbelievable. Unbelievable. It felt like a Florida Tennessee game from, you know, 20 something years was unbelievable. Do we think it's going to be, look, it's not going to be that this week, but can it approach that? They don't need it to be, but John Somerl wants it to be. Can it be, from the norm, you know? Yeah, they have not announced a sellout yet, so that'll be something we'll watch. We'll see if that street can keep going. But it's going to be packed. It is a 530 game, so a little bit sooner in the evening. You can get a little bit more heat at the start of that game, but I also think that, you know, you're just, the way that they played,

55:23the excitement that they created, fans are going to show up and show out. Whether or not it sells out, it's certainly going to be sold out when Ole Miss comes to town. There's no doubt about that. But I think that that energy excitement is going to be there. In regardless of what the crowd number ends up being, I think you're going to feel the swamp again because I think the offense is going to make exciting explosive plays. And when that happens, the swamp comes alive. And unfortunately, for Florida fans, that has not happened enough to last four years. And even though they've been selling out the swamp and doing a great job, you really haven't got to feel it the way you felt that Saturday night. I think that'll happen once again. That's a great point, Zach, you know? You know, even when you're playing a team that you're going to beat the hell out of quite frankly, it's, if people, you knew they would, if Billy Napier was coaching, they were going to win this game. But now you're thinking, okay, if I go, I might see something exciting. I might see something unique. See something special. They might

I think there's going to be a bunch of guys at score. But I think one guy is going to be quiet. It's the opposite of a Madelo moment. And I think it's going to be Dallas Wilson because I think Florida is saving this dude for next week. I think we're just scratching the surface with Dallas and he's going to get unleashed against Auburn. That's my prediction. Auburn's got a kind of a struggling cornerback room. So we're saying that the Florida favored on the polymark app it by app by 49 and a half points. I'm picking Florida 62-14. I think they're going to come just in under that. I think Campbell probably scored maybe one in the first half and maybe one late when Florida's got its third, fourth walk on. They deserve to play. John Summer, all said it last week. Those guys deserve to play. They're bust in their asses. But Campbell's still going to have a lot of its first teamers out there at that point and they can't score the ball, score the football. So I think it's going to be 62-14 in that range. A good, solid, you know, getting all these young guys experience, hopefully healthy, more confidence. Another 60 point game more of the vibe that hey, this is a program that can score points. The first team defense and the second team defense are going to do their part. You're going to have a little bit more optimism, a little more confidence going into next week's game at Auburn. So I'll say 62-14 Florida.

59:43I'm going big. Oh, boy. Are we talking 80s? I'm going, I'm not going 82 to 6 Central Michigan, 19 and just 11. I'm going 73 to 6. I think that would get people excited. I think, look, this offense scored every time it touched the ball except for one possession. I think they're going to have more possessions this game because I don't think that Campbell's going to be able to move the ball the way that FAU did. I think that this offense is going to be sharp. I think they're going to look to prove a point. I think they're going to have a special team's touchdown. I think they're going to get a lot of turnovers, maybe some short fields. But if they put 66 on FAU and I understand it is not a great FBS defense, but this is not a great FCS defense.

1:00:43And this offense, this quarterback, this running back, this receiver room, offensive lines coming together, I think they hang 70 in the swamp. And I think the defense shuts them down and doesn't allow a touchdown. I'm doing the math here. So they scored 66. I'm not exactly a math wizard, but 66 last week you're giving them 73. That would put their average. That would put their average over two games. It's what 69 and a half points. And we mentioned earlier in the show that Florida hadn't scored that that was the most points Florida scored in an opener since 1994. Well, in the second game that season, they also scored 70. That was against Kentucky. Okay, so 70 points and two straight games for the Gators. Remember what they did in week three? Big SEC road game. They went to Tennessee in one 31 to nothing. And at the end of that game, a young quarterback named Peyton Manning came out there in the final quarter and got his first action against the Gators. He would never beat Florida. Obviously, all right. So we both have Florida winning big. Do you remember
