自古以來跟「宇宙射線」相關的諾貝爾物理獎得主非常的多。
1936年的諾貝爾物理獎得主共有兩位，兩位得獎者的研究都和宇宙射線有關，其中一位是奧地利人，名字叫做維克托·赫斯。
維克托·赫斯在1912年時乘坐著「熱氣球」飛上空中進行實驗。
赫斯當時想要製造出一個靈敏度夠高的偵測器，而當時的人們認為放射性物質來自於地面上的土壤。
赫斯便想到訊號相對較差的高處測試偵測器，但他搭著熱氣球到了高處後，卻發現訊號的強度變強了，進而發現了「宇宙射線」！
