Ep. 153 Peter Bell — Changing The Narrative Around Mental Illness - Part 1
About this episode
Pete Bell is a proud father/husband, heavy metal fan and cricket/boxing tragic. He also dabbles occasionally in work these days as the Director of Aurelius, a management consulting firm focussed on adding maximum value to businesses and people below the surface; so that they can shine above it.
* Changing the narrative around mental illness; brain illness vs mental illness; people fear what they can't see and understand i.e. they can engage/empathize around a broken leg but struggle with the mind; make reference to the brain and people can relate better
* Reframing "breakdowns" as breakthrough's; remove the stigma
* It is extremely productive/beneficial to take the time to "reboot"; sit in the uncomfortable space and consciously identify our subconscious patterns of behavior or beliefs that may have served us well early in life / but are now self-sabotaging and require re-wiring
* How important nonjudgemental support networks are for brain illness and recovery
* How to move forward post a "breakdown" / "break-through"
