Before we jump into today's episode, here's a quick reminder, if you enjoy it, and want to keep the show going, consider joining the community at patreon.com slash realm news. You'll get early access, exclusive bonus content, and it'll be behind the scenes look at everything happening at realm news. Your support helps make every episode possible. patreon.com slash realm news. Now let's get into the show. Hello and welcome back to realm news. Go ahead, get comfortable, stay a while. I am your host, the Dark Lord. The one who puts the real and realm expansion mind one block at a time, and today is pull time for this episode. And also, I need to mention, it is realm news is 250th Alt Together episode 250 episodes,
folks. We just celebrated last week realm news is flash 100th episode. Well, with this one that I am reporting on today, this Thursday episode, this makes Alt Together 250 episodes. Thank you so much for being a part of realm news journey. I remember over two and a half years ago riding the very first episode titled the clerics cloak in January 2024. I just have to say, you are the best audience a host could ever ask for. Now before I get to sentimental, let's move on here. The poll question for today is the episode title. If you did, catch that. It is, do you trade with villagers? I just had to find out how often people trade with villagers. I love data folks. Heck, you know that by now. About me, you just, if you've been listening for the 250 episodes, you know I love data. That's what this shows all about. It's, it's all learning something. So I'm sorry though, I have to say this.
I'm sorry it's not full length episode. I don't have a real realm section. I had a very busy week outside of the realm news studio and this is all I could muster. So if you've been following the show for some time then you know that's pretty rare. But I have to do this from time to time. I've never missed one. These Thursday episodes have never been missed. You know, I'm never playing a rerun. I'm very proud to state that. Ever never done that. So I want to try to keep it that way folks. That's why sometimes if I get really busy, I have to resort to just full time. So anyways, so we go find out how many people trade with villagers. I'm kind of curious of myself. But let's go see the results. It's full time. That is right folks. It is full time. Yes, our age old full time.
And the question I asked the Minecraft Red community is this. I have a simple poll my friends. One I have a curious about for quite a while. Do you trade with villagers? I asked this because I don't. Well, I have a few times. I had nine up to count as an active trader on a scale one through five. Choose how often you trade with villagers where one equals no trading with villagers to five, which means trading very often. That's why I asked them. I posted that in the usual groups. Minecraft to Minecraft underscore survival. And of course, realm news is subreddit. They had five options to choose from one through five. And representing people who absolutely do not trade with villagers and five, which represents people who trade the most with villagers. The poll had a grand total of 637 votes, which is a very good amount of votes for poll time people. Pleases me so much to see such a turnout.
The numbers are fascinating as well. Allow me to read off the results before breaking it all down. The group of the most votes was the number five group who trade with villagers the most. They have 265 votes out 637 total, which equals 41.6% of the share of votes. The group with the second most votes is the in between group. Or that's what I called them. It is the number three group. They have 131 votes, which equals out to be 20.5% of the pie. Or one fifth of the players trade off and on. The next group coming in third isn't too far behind the last one, with 115 votes, which represent 18% of the votes is number four, which I would have guessed would have ranked second place as opposed to third. I don't know. We have number two who comes in fourth place with 13.5% of the votes.
Or I should say 86 votes. And last place is the group who are hardly trades with villagers at all. That is the number one group with a measly 40 votes or 6.2% of all the votes. Not much folks. Not very many. There's a little sliver of the pie there, 6.2%. Now, shall we break this down? Groups one and two. This is what I deemed a low frequency group. In trading, they don't trade very often. Then you have group three right in between, right between one and five. Number three. And this is the off and on group. This is the neutral almost group, like kind of trade and that kind of don't. And then we have groups four and five, which are high frequency groups. Or the ones who trade with villagers the most. So you can kind of break down this scale. I created one through five into three groups, like I just stated.
I'm not counting realm news in this because my subreddit only had three votes. So people go vote on my realm news because sign up there. Let's grow this. Let's grow that subred. It's always been rather small. A lot of people don't even know how to have it out there. So I need to advertise that a little bit more. It's actually been around longer than my Twitter now X profile. I'm anyways, excuse me, I went off subject there. But I didn't count realm news is subreddit this because I only have three votes there. And so out of like the 600 plus votes, I don't, I just, I didn't make a difference. So anyways, overall out of the on this whole entire pool, 60% of players will trade with villagers frequently or very often. They're in the groups four and five high frequency group. And then you got the number three group, right? And the in betweeners 20% occasionally trade with villagers there. Yes, 20% occasionally trade with villagers, one fifth. And then you got the barely, the people barely trade at all with villagers.
That's includes me. I'm in this group. This represents 19.8%. You can round up to 20 here, folks. So we got 20% in between and then we got 20% who barely trade 60% who trade very often. Now let's put this in another perspective. Three out five players trade very much with villagers, one out of five trade occasionally. And another one out of five, barely, if not ever trade with villagers. Where it gets even more interesting is when we break down the actual groups, I posted this in. Minecraft underscores survival, trades the most with villagers out of the three sub-rests. I posted this in. They have 43.9% of this group voted for for number five group or the trade the most. Compare that with Minecraft number two. That group, Minecraft two group who had only 30.8%. So compare 43.9% with 30.8% who vote for five all the two groups.
That's a 13.1% difference, which is significant when it comes to when it comes to ratios and breaking the stamp. So that there is a difference there, which is interesting. I just want to point that out. So Minecraft survival subreddit out trades the Minecraft two subreddit, which is very interesting. I'd love to know your theories on that. Please write in on any of the accounts you go to bio.link slash realm news or you can go to patreon.com slash realm news or you can email me at realm news 247 at gmail.com. And let me know your theories on that. Now that we have learned the hard data, I would like to now go into comments and read off. I actually have quite a few comments on this. So I won't get into comment time. But after a word from our sponsors.
Listeners of realm news, are you tired of fishing for hours and catching everything except fish? Now with 20% more fishing, scientifically tested in oceans, rivers, and even your Minecraft worlds. Fish! Another fish! Another fish! The Omni Industries Deluxe Fishing Rod featured on realm news. Because sometimes you just want to catch a fish. Although I still don't know what I'm supposed to do with that bull. Welcome back, welcome back my friends. We are in comment time. Yeah. I don't have one of those voice auto synthesizers going on for that. Sorry. I will make maybe one day a comment, comment time.
Something like that. Anyways, anyways folks, my first comment comes from Cody D91 who says quote, iron form to sell iron for XP slash repair armor and tools. And quote, ok ok ok. I'm pretty straight forward there Cody. Way to trade but seems like a very viable way to get some emeralds. Honestly, I forget we can trade iron for emeralds with the armor, toolsmith, and weapon smith. I'll have to start doing that. I have an iron farm so that would be easy for me to do. Thank you Cody D91 for your comment. Please leave another in the future my friend. Our next commenter goes by Pokélie Evie. Pokélie, Pokélie maybe. I know some of these names are very, very out of the norm. So Pokélie Evie who says quote, I only trade with them for diamond armor slash tools and enchanted books outside of that.
I'll also trade sticks for emeralds in quote. Now, now, now. Trained sticks for emeralds with the fletcher is a great way to earn some green. Actually, that's my favorite person to trade with when I do trade that is. Thank you so much, Pokélie Evie. Our next comment comes from Anonymous who says quote, I find the enchanting table annoying to deal with. So I usually focus on getting enchantment book from villagers. Then I make a small melon and pumpkin farm inside my base that gives me enough melons and pumpkins to repair my tools and get emeralds for books and build a buffer for emeralds in quote. That's great system, my friend. Great system. I love it. I can see how trading for enchantment books or enchanted books would be an ideal solution and a way to avoid the enchantment table together. Thank you, Pokélie Evie for that great, great comment. Please keep them coming. Next comment comes from Wow underscore O7 who says, oh, I ever take from villagers
are a few enchantments that are very annoying to get otherwise. Mending, looting three. That's where he ends it. And I say, great thinking friend. I tell you, mention that I had no clue those were something we could obtain through trading. Folks, I'll admit my ignorance when it comes to trading. As I stated in the intro, I am in the first group on that poll. Like I hardly occasionally trade. I think the last time I did trade was over a year ago, maybe a year and a half ago. Heck, maybe two years ago. It's been a long time. However, I think after making this episode, I'm going to start doing a little bit more trading. I'm getting inspired from hearing these comments so far. But I'm not going to be building up a trading hall. I don't have those in my kingdom. I do not like constructing, I don't like playing my, or constructing my people into sales. I like to see them roam around my streets and conduct business. It keeps my cities and villages lively. Thank you.
Wow. underscore seven for that awesome amazing comment. Please keep leaving them. I post polls weekly. The next comment comes from bigs, mid 19 who says, I feel like I trade with villagers a lot until I get my armor maxed. Like I try to always have four sets. My main, my nether, my main backup, and my nether backup. Once I have these four maxed, I rarely use my trading halls again. Very interesting. I really enjoyed reading how you have four sets of armor. I would also make backups if I was having nether, right? Because if you lost your nether, I'd be very sad if I was really one. That's also interesting that you only use your trading hall for armor. Then after you have acquired what you need, you're done. I wonder if this is common amongst players who use trading halls.
Thank you bigs, mid 19 for that great comment. Please keep them coming. My next commenter comes from a person who has been leaving comments on realm news poll time since, well, the very beginning. He is a star commenter in realm news and he left a great comment today that is rather lengthy, but I love this so much I'm going to read it off in his entirety. Apprehensive underscore hat 8986 says, quote, yes, a fair amount because I get to decide what's quote unquote fair. It comes and goes. I've not set up a big trading hall, but I'll make an expedition to trade all my zombie flesh to the cleric that six kilometers away. Sorry, 6,000 kilometers away. A fletcher is a great early game village in a tie aga village as you can farm great spruce easily and sell huge amounts of sticks where it got sticky for me is with enchanted gear.
I enjoy the effort slash reward of mining the diamonds to build my personal gear, being able to just buy enchanted diamond stuff felt extremely cheesy when village and village came out and I've never been able to shake that feeling like bust in a diamond hoe used to mean something and then mojang does turn their fans years of hard work into a joke. For what it's worth, it was a solid reminder that no digital quote unquote asset has any intrinsic worth. It's then it's all become just part of the access to everything being renewable. So now I'll use villager gear for kidding out on afk farm like nimbons ice farm because it was all rather meaningless. So villager trading is a fantastic convenience and a solid reminder of the absurdity of existence. But then he dropped another one after that and he continued to say quote, I really enjoy
exploring and mapping. Our world spawn was on the shores of a 3000 kilometer sea, which was adjacent to a much larger one. In setting off on my early game boat exploration and cartographic expedition, I found a maze of swamp and rivers that almost connect the two water bodies, literally less than 10 meters separates them. As I was exploring the larger sea, there was a village with a church and well there they were. The route between spawn and the cleric's village is even longer with the maneuvering through rivers, canals and portage. But before we explored the nether, it became part of the lore of our world to bring our masses of slain zombie hordes to that cleric. So periodically we set sail with our goods to travel to the far village and do trade. Our world has since grown with nether paths, roads, other routes and a light or travel.
But that nautical route is marked out on a world map with banners. It reminds me to sometimes take the long way to a destination just for the sake of the journey. No matter where you go, there you are. Then they dropped another and that was a quote by, sorry, no matter where you go, there you are. That was a quote by Dr. Buckerrub, Banzai, PhD, Rockstar, Test Pilot and a Finder of Humanity. And that was the end of their comment. I loved his comment and reading about the lore he described about how they take their collected zombie flesh and make a voyage to a designated cleric and that has become part of their cannon. It was fun to hear how someone else takes his sandbox game and turns into a living world for myth and just new new cannons and lore, new stories. I also enjoyed the morale of the story that sometimes a long road is not so bad.
It's actually the more enjoyable route. In apprehensive also point out that visual assets have no intrinsic value, which, well, it's an objective truth. I replied to apprehensive underscore hat 8986 by saying quote, I love that history of your world along with the morale. I completely understand what you mean when it comes to taking the long way. Am I in craft? Well, my town 65 and plus are connected via rail or most. I love jumping into my mind cart which acts essentially as a car in my realm and just coast along the countryside. I will just marvel at this game's construction. The generative world still amazes me to this day. I love the lore you have built. I look forward to reading this off of my show. I look forward to seeing your next post. In quote, and I do thank you my friend for that amazing comment. I look forward to the next one. Next person I have a comment from is kelpysaurus who says quote interacting with villagers
is my least favorite part of the game. I feel so icky imprisoning them and killing golems and all that. And even if I leave them alone, they end up getting killed or killing themselves. It's depressing. I almost exclusively play with mods to disable them these days. In quote, oh wow. I had never thought about that some people didn't like interacting with villagers at all. I have to admit in the past on my show that I do not have trading halls. I said that earlier today too, but I do indeed have an iron farm that houses 20 inmates as I called them in my world. The iron farm is called the mush squash iron prison where only the worst of the realm citizens are sent. In fact, if you listen to part two, the making of a book or I have in that story one of my people clerics having their holy cloth taken from them at graduation day to only be sent to that iron prison. It is part of realm news is canon.
However, I can see what you think it's depressing. You must realize folks at Villager's stock in traditional trading halls and iron prisons, they're their fraternity. They have no relief of death, digital death, I should say, unless a catastrophe occurs such as a creeper strike or some other unusual anomaly that would cause Villager to die in a protected environment. Sorry, I can't talk. Write in and let me know how you trade with your Villagers at bio.links. I show them news. Please, I'd love to hear that. I have one last comment for today for today's show. This comment comes from awkward underscore cash 1828 who says as someone who played for 15 years and saw Villagers and trading being added in the first place, I never trade with them much. Basically at all, even when I built a populated village couple of times using Villagers just for ambiance. That is a very interesting comment coming from a veteran Minecraft player.
According to Minecraft outweaky, Villagers were added on beta 1.9 pre-release or the first pre-release for job addition 1.0.0 released on September 22, 2011. I could not, I could see how playing the game pre-vilger like version would affect your opinion on them. I mean, that'd be weird. I've never played the game before Villagers. I don't know what that would be like. I think the world would be very blank. That would affect your opinion on all that. I'm just going to say, if you did vote, maybe you just have to comment. You would be part of the 1 out 5 or 1 out of 5 people, 20% who do not barely trade with Villagers. I'm one of those. Don't take offense when I say that. Thank you, awkward underscore cash 1828 for your comment and please leave another one on a future post. And with that comment, folks, that wraps up all I have for this week's Realm News.
This week's poll on Villager trading receives 637 votes. And the results show that most players are active traders. A combined 60% respondents group 4 and 5 trade with Villagers frequently. 20% group 3 trade off and on. And only 19.8% groups 1 and 2 rarely or never trade. The largest single group was those who trade very often with 41.6% of the votes. Just 6.2% never trade at all. Interestingly, Minecraft underscore survival players were the most active in trading, outpacing Minecraft to participants. Overall, the data shows that Villager trading is a core activity for the majority of players. But it ultimately doesn't matter how you trade or if you trade at all. That's the beauty of Minecraft. You make the game how you want.
