現在一堆高樓大廈，也有「玻璃帷幕大樓」，玻璃帷幕具有很好的透光性讓內部空間變得很明亮，視野給大樓裡居高臨下的菁英人士一種「君臨天下」的優越感，但是太陽會把「光」跟「熱」帶進來了以及玻璃脆弱的缺點。
現在有「透光不透熱」又「堅固」的材料嗎？有喔！就是「透明木材」！
最近科學家們運用相當簡單的方法製造出透明的木材，用這種方式作出來的透明木頭，透光率可以達到 90% 以上，然而灌入環氧樹脂後補強結構，強度提昇大約 44.8 倍！比玻璃還堅固！
