近期有許多科學新聞報導，指出「地磁」有逐漸減弱的跡象，可能導致地磁反轉。
我們從小由指北針和指南針中學習到磁性，認為地磁總是指著相同的方向。
科學家卻指出地磁每個一段時間，便會南北互換，且是在相較下來較短的時間內變化，與其他的地質活動比較，其改變的非常迅速。
地質學家採集了一些具有磁性的礦物，並觀察礦石的「磁性紀錄」，發現古代礦石的磁性紀錄的方向與現今的磁場方向相反。
接著經過一連串的研究與實證，最終發現了地磁反轉的真相！
