霍金是英國物理學家、宇宙學家，在科學上有許多貢獻像是廣義相對論以及霍金輻射，可惜在21歲時被診斷出罹患漸凍人症（ALS）無法發聲，必須使用輪椅上的語音產生裝置來與外界溝通。
咦?! 真的可以將腦波直接轉為語言的裝置嗎?
英特爾電腦（Intel）從1997年開始協助維護改善霍金所使用的電腦系統，讓他可以維持溝通能力、在短時間傳遞訊息，雖然醫學上沒辦法醫治好病情，但幸好運用科技可以讓霍金的想法跟外界交流。
