Clifford Cage crashed into Jim Blackwood on a pavement while the veteran was taking out his bins on Cityway on July 6th, 2023. Blackwood suffered for three months before passing away on October 13th. The case marks a legal first for manslaughter linked to cycling on a pavement as prosecutors push forward despite gaps in laws for bikes. Judge Julian Smith noted Blackwood endured great suffering in his final months and that Cage should not have ridden there that way. Cage received a two-year suspended sentence, plus 15 days of rehab activities and 180 hours of unpaid work.
