Eberflus Joins 49ers, Cowboys Defense Rebuilds

The team's defense had a terrible year, finishing among the worst in franchise history in several key stats. Now, the 55-year-old coach has landed a new job with the San Francisco 49ers as their assistant-head coach for defense. This marks the second straight rough ending for Eberfluse, who was let go mid-season as head coach of the Chicago Bears in 2024. Despite that, the NFL loves a good comeback story, and he's joining a strong 49ers squad looking to build on their success. The Cowboys clean-house on defense after his exit, replacing nearly every assistant who worked under him.
