1:12:24a dials got four hurts yeah because that's four hurts and the thing i noticed immediately after he threw that ball he turns to the sideline and he does the the shrug the Jordan shrug at the sideline and you know i i was asking guys about that after the game and they all kind of looked at me like there's more there that i can't get into right now um and jalen when i when i when i asked him the question he he smiles and he goes it's a good play it's a good play he goes you guys will dig you guys will figure that out um i think that there was definitely some like pettiness and some meaning behind that that one from yeah there's an age game it screams j j j yeah and i honestly i thought it was fitting i wrote this in uh in my uh the early bird on all phy.j. my uh my uh my day after column it was very fitting it was like there was a lot of old tricks from jalen in this game and you know the four hurts uh the fact that the inside zone was working for the offense you know jalen running uh being a big part of it i thought it was there also kind of an old trick and uh very fitting and ironic that the cryptic message after the game was from jalen after a year of them being about jalen

1:13:24from a j so uh a lot of irony in this game uh you know in the post game especially but i think that generally speaking like i thought that this was like a vintage jalen performance you know a third down you have to make it happen it's not always going to be perfect but you know i the 22 year excramble that was the pivot point in the game you know that was the that have to have it got to protect the lead nothing's working and he just takes off and i think you know i found it very interesting that say quan barkley mentioned that jalen like got himself into shape over the offseason to be able to do that uh and he said they're gonna need it and i agree as they as they go through these growing pains offensively i think jalen out of structure is going to be the thing that rises the tide when they are going through tough tough spells there yeah i'm with you in your piece uh you had a mile out of quote uh saying uh the defensive coordinator uh irante jones and like through the kitchen sink stop in the wide zone run do you think that's something the Eagles are going to see most of the season basically challenge him to have hurts beat

1:14:26on like we saw yesterday yeah you know it's funny because obviously like the Eagles didn't haven't put a lot of wide zone on tape but everyone knows that that's you know the foundation of what they're going to do you know i joke maybe derontate jones is reading my uh my notebook every week because i i had in there that in the first day of install shaman and told the offense outside zone is the foundation of everything we're going to do uh and there's a pitfall to being a wide zone team and like a new wide zone team in 2026 because it's been a decade that teams have been running this so defense has no how to key on it and i think you saw that the corners and the safety's and i mentioned nick cross earlier they were keyed in on the outside zone and they were taking it away uh the Eagles didn't have answers and that's why they had to transition back to the inside zone game that we've seen them run in past iterations of the offense so you know i don't want to put too much stock into like oh they threw the kitchen sink and it's the stuff we're seeing pre-stab we heard that so much last year it's about problem solving um i think they did an okay job problem solving uh but when you have landed dickerson looking like that out there it's it's hard to overcome that good yeah i mean for sure i mean what'd you think about the defense

1:15:31excitable obviously we talked a little bit about coop struggle a little bit yesterday um lot lot and then we we did the edge didn't get a lot of pressure right jaylis on that group so what were your thoughts on on that side of the ball obviously the defense is going to be a lead is going to carry us this year but we'll just encourage your thoughts on how that all went down yesterday yeah i got i got thoughts on all three levels for you Danny so uh from from the past rush i thought that they they they didn't have like a great production production night but i thought that they did impact the game and obviously the defense attack will trio in general or in in particular uh you know i asked moro a jomo about this like the it was a two point win and the defense of tackles you know stopped the three points essentially on the pate in the two point conversion jaylen carder with the block and then moro with the tackle he had a great assist from jaylen carder on that play as well so to me that's the impact that this defense attack will group has to have on games and you know i think that's what they expect uh at linebacker i thought zag bomb as a best player on the field last last night when when the eagle's defense was on the field he was the best player on the field he was everywhere um you know and it's funny you see him after the game he's

1:16:34got scratches on his neck he's like bleeding from like different areas he had like a warrior you know Bobby yeah war daddies like he had a game yesterday just a total a total force um and in the second day he was like uh he was like oh did this yesterday he really was yeah no he was he was awesome i mean you you sometimes forget like this is one of the best linebackers the NFL um and he he reminded us last night uh secondary wise yeah it was a rough night from Cooper uh i thought some of those illegal contact calls wore a little tiki tack um but overall he's he he has trouble with like the slippery guys in the slot but i wouldn't a class step on digs is that um you saw a couple times he was kind of grabbing at his like midsection i wonder if he got dinged i wonder if he got dinged early in the game and he he wouldn't tell us if he did so um that's something to keep an eye on maybe uh injury report on wednesday we'll give us some information on that i'm not going to overreact with the secondary i think they're a talented group and you got to keep in mind like with all the three announced this this defense is susceptible to just being on the field too much especially

1:17:39when i and yesterday was a miserable day like it was very warm very muggy all that humidity and when you don't play the preseason you get gas right all over the league defences were gas this today across football yeah i mean i you if you saw me in the post game show i was struggling in that in that humidity yeah it was it was a warm one uh and again week one um i think that the defense was about as advertised you know offense had dry spells defense was able to carry him through and the defense attack was really affected the game to the point where i think you could i think jalen and at the out of structure stuff just as much affected winning but again though those guys saved three points and a two point one i think that speaks for itself yeah and uh you know you're like cambo i thought play well i'm in any gotten lost in and that one coverage up in that i thought he played well i i saw some flashes and he's this short tackler like i

1:18:39like i like him i just think you know you got a coverage i worry about him a little bit yeah i think he just needs he needs time on task he he wasn't in my notebook a ton good or bad yesterday which i think is fine um but he's gonna make splash plays i mean that's that's what he's got in his uh he's got that capability because of his athleticism so yeah i i i felt i felt as advertised about the defense i thought this is what i expected them to look outside a coupe uh obviously you weren't gonna expect him to struggle all right get back to offense real quick because a couple things one we i forgot to set on with cam you know he got warned a couple times the official warned the couple times holding and then he got snagged twice right like that tells me he is is swimming like yeah you're open like that you're that grabby you're swimming yeah yeah i i think he did he got caught out of position in pass pro just too many times um getting up to the

1:19:41second level didn't look as comfortable as you would have expected again it doesn't it doesn't look like he's like last season he could barely walk you know you could see that the physical limitations were really holding him back i'm not as i'm not as certain that that's what it was i think it's just maybe it's a mental thing you know it's like a mental hurdle that he's got a clear um unless worried about him i i feel like he could still settle in but landings the one for me like you can't you can't pull you can't win a lot of games with your left guard that much of a liability it's sad to say but yeah that's where we're at what what what did you think of uh just the overall offense i he only they only took one they only completed one one ball between the hashes they were under center a lot less than i expected uh you still saw a lot of the four virts i mean you still saw in one work one time it worked but you still saw a lot of the same of last year or some last year which you know and again i know you're dealing with land and so with that was that was three three

1:20:45and outs which was highly reminiscent of last year yeah it was it brought me back to something Sean Mangon said during training camp which is that he was trying to find the comfort calls for jalen in the offense and i think this game really was summed up by the the comfort calls going back to what this offense has done well in the past i don't know if that's the most encouraging thing that in week one you had to revert back to a lot of what you've done in the past but i think you know again it's week one you're just trying to get it over the line i want to see what it looks like in week four week week five i think yeah i'm trying to keep in mind like we talked about this glee and the lead of to the season that they were going to be growing pains for this offense there was going to be undoubtedly learning curve the fact that they did go right back to some of that third down stuff and you know the four birds and inside zone yeah i mean you would love them to be able to problem solve and stick with what they want their identity to be but again it's at the at the some point it's about the bottom line so i definitely think it was surprising that after a training camp full of

1:21:46middle field throws under center play action wide zone running running you know run scheme you they just went back to what they've done in the past and week one but it's not all that surprising to think about like if you're going to just try and get through the game yeah stuff that these guys know how to do i think that's probably a good adjustment from shaman in this first game yeah i i think it we've said it a million times that this is not about september or October it's about hoping it clicks in november yeah yeah and i think we'll see more and more you know i mean we saw glimpses of it uh the under center play action to don taving and wicks although i got a i got something to say about that play um but you know that that is like what what shaman had once this to look like um i think over time you'll see more and more of that and less of you know all have to have it four birds in a two by two set i think that but if they're doing that in like week twelve and they're spamming it then we can have a real conversation but for week one i i think i'm well in to be patient about it yeah all right so let at the

1:22:49year no book i want to go you know DJ so book because i'm a notebook guy and i love the fact that you're a notebook guy so i want to make it yeah so one of the things i we have to talk about is that 64 yarder to don tavian wicks here um so after the after the game don tavian wicks said that he's not actually really part of that progression he's he's running a clear out route and if he if you watch i was watching the all 22 this morning it's a flood concept they're trying to get the ball to Dallas got it and got it's open like you know 15 yards down field on an out route um flood concept for those unfamiliar basically three receivers to a side you're trying to get the defense to commit to one level and open up a second or third level um don tavian wicks is covered up when jalen throws that ball in in the in the press box there was like um a stir uh when the balls in the air because it looked like good coverage but san roestill reads the ball terribly and wicks reads the ball perfectly and that that's what results in the 64 yarder and again after the after the game don tavian wicks says that that's a clear out route that's what they that's what they refer to

1:23:51building as a love of the game route um but i think it's really noteworthy that don tavian wicks then says like but with jalen you are you're never out of a progression you know he will give you a chance we know that about him um so there are no love of the game routes the fact that jalen it's his first regular season game right first game ever with don tavian wicks the fact that he's given him that trust to go over the top like that i do think that that's that's that's uh that's noteworthy about what these two the chemistry these two have built over the offseason so um you know we could talk about the decision oh you know what that was yeah that was screw you hey jalen yeah you give me a chance yeah well i told you you like talk about this and i thought that wicks would be a very pronounced part of this receiving core and i told you i thought because body type with a j there was this similar body type and that works with a with jalen and there was no doubt especially

1:24:52hearing that it was supposed to be a clear out route that was that was jalen did jalen do the sideline shrug there he didn't shrug to the sideline that time but maybe there was a smirk or something i because you're right it reminds me of the the steeler's game from 22 when jalen had a similar situation with a j a j's run the clear out and jalen goes you know what i'm bombing it downfield last season uh a j was on the clear out route against the broncos and he slows up yes because he doesn't the ball is coming to him and then you see this example don tavian wicks running hard and makes a great read in the air and gets a 64 yard completion out of it so yeah i think there's some some love the game route man like that's real like yeah you know yeah i find levels right like they all run the that play it and you got you know if you're running the dummy or love of the game yeah and that was always to play where a j would you know not run hard

1:25:54it was so hard to get realized the ball was coming to me and then he would then he would cry and say while the ball was late yeah yeah wicks isn't interesting to me because he seems like a perfect fit for the for the offense they want to run he has an understanding of it but just almost like just from a personality standpoint he's a good fit for that locker room yeah he's got an entity about him he's got a like uh he just has like a play personality that i think that everyone has appreciated since he got in you know you'll hear from people in the building about you know the decision that he made to stay at Virginia in college all dating all the way back to his college career when it's early nil he's got offers to go to the SEC and he stayed loyal to the school he was at i think that from a character standpoint you know he talks a lot about the chemistry he's built with jalen off the field and on the field i think he's just a perfect fit for what they want to do and came up big yesterday i mean he routed san re still up on that second touchdown that was just nasty you know he beat he beats the outside leverage and then he fakes back inside and cuts out

1:26:55again he beat him twice on on one round it was remarkable he showed toughness too i mean he got jacked up earlier in that game that that one uh that was like a sheldon brown ask yes yes all right yeah you're right right right i mean and i don't think i'm like oh man and he got right up you know like he ate it got up then then sulk you know then get up that just got get back to work that's it got back to work you can't get upset like that's yeah you get taught right away you really get listen sometimes you get got yeah he got drilled yeah i forgot about that play it's a good call Danny i mean he did he got smoked on that but he talks about his how he takes pride and toughness being as he would put it being a dog and i think we saw it another note about not sulking heard from davonte smith after the game this is the other thing i know a book about the receivers here um davonte said he faced a lot of cloud coverage uh in that game you know Washington seemed very intentional about trying to take him away um and you know to to your point Danny like davonte said like you know when that happens other guys have to win and that's that's
