I'm excited to be here. I'm excited for Eagles game day being just days away. Is this a purchase in anticipation of this or is this something you already had in your closet?

2:09I have had this. So you used to wear it in the Eagles press box. But I had to pay respect. I feel like to the professor here. I appreciate that. That is awesome. I can't wait till we're both rocking the hats later in the later in the season. I don't really get that hat out until you know, maybe late October. That's a little, a little colder outside. How are you feeling your own nerves in anticipation of the first game of the season? I always love it. It's always exciting. It's always thrilling. We haven't had too many weak ones at the link recently. You know, only five of the last 15 years. Really? Of the Eagles been at home on week one. So it's usually been like a slower build up to the game day experience. Like watch the team on TV, get some film, have a better sense of what I'm looking for. So this is a little bit weird. Like to go in, you got new coordinators on both sides of the ball when the Eagles have the ball. Yeah. But you know, that's like the the football part of it. In terms of the getting down there, like biking down there, like feeling the crowd, all that stuff. That's always thrilling. That never gets a whole 25 game. What time do you love going there?

3:11Yeah. Gates open at 2.30. And his favorite. I will be there at 2.15. Ready to go in when the gates open so that I can see as much of warm-ups as possible. If anyone's going to be there, I'll be in section 104 watching warm-ups. Come say hi. And BLG, how do you feel about a week one? Yeah. So I don't know how I feel about this team relative to the scope of the season. Like, you know, a lot of things can happen. We'll see. But I'm excited for week one, specifically because of who they're playing. Yeah. And I think because of how advantageous that matchup is for this team. It really does feel like an easy draw. And I'm a little you know, we can get to predictions later. I'm a little bit like why is the line only 5 1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1? Because this does feel like like I'm tilting towards blowout city for the Eagles. But it's there's so many unknowns. It's week one you never know. But it does it does feel like things are setting up for a good situation for it. When it's week one, it's almost like, you know, like how all the season overunders for teams

4:14are closer to 500 than it seems like they should be. Yeah. Like there's just so much uncertainty that the median kind of ends up falling at a point closer to average, you know what I mean, for expectations. It's still a division game. It's a team that's the Eagles and Random Games recently. I don't know. I mean like like you just don't know any chance. I was challenging and I'm walking through that door. That's true. As on this show, we're going to talk about some of the matchup nuggets we haven't gotten into yet. Some specifics and also some big picture things. But let's talk early, professor about how as excited as we are to see what this team looks like week one,

5:18opening up this present, you know, what they look like. The specificity of this matchup, yeah, against a commander's defense that could be borrowing from Brian Flores might mean that like what we see on Sunday is not really what we're going to see all season long. Yeah, I mean, Fran broke down the Washington defense nicely on yesterday's show. We talked about it a little bit on Wednesday. How this is like, I think I've been to say that he did a nice job. Oh, he always does an incredible job. Obviously, everyone knows that I think that. You know, Dorontay Jones did not give away anything in any of his recent pressers in part because the Washington media asks terrible questions. I don't think there was a single, I don't think there was a single scheme question in like in his presser at all, like not a single one like asking, you know, like, like, what do you plan to do with this guy or how do you plan to approach your first game or anything like that? It was all like, how does it feel, you know, to be calling plays, you know, stuff like that. Typical typical Washington media. We didn't know if you guys, if you guys remember,

6:23going into the NFC championship game, we didn't know who they're starting offensive line was going to be, you know, I'm just thinking like, imagine if the Eagles were in the NFC championship game and the and the beats couldn't figure out who the starting offensive line was like the on game day. In any case, we don't know anything about how Brian Flores like it's going to be. If it's a lot like Brian Flores, we're talking heavy blitz, like heavy big blitz, right? Typically zone behind it. Those big plays, the 79 yarder to Dorontay Smith last year against the Vikings. Those all four of those play action, under center play action completions that Jalen had his career high than the four in one game came against those types of zone blitzes. And so you're talking about like a lot of room. But if you can get it protected, there's there should be guys running open, right? Well, that makes play action look a little different, right? Like it's like that kind of play action that that takes a long time. You probably don't want to be doing that without max protection, right? Because the offensive line doesn't have enough guys to block. And so the details are going to look different, I think, against the Brian Flores style defense.

7:29Then they might, you know, when we move on to later weeks, right? We will make sweeping judgments based on what we see on Sunday that might not be exactly what we're going to see most of the season. I actually think this particular matchup, the unknowns, we were talking about it with Fran yesterday and how maybe the unknowns mean that, okay, you just you solve it with aggression, you run downhill, you beat him that way. But I also think in the passing game, it works to the Eagles favor when there's these two unknowns because I was talking to Jonathan Grenard in the locker room yesterday, what's about the Flores defense and, you know, is if this defense borrows from Flores, like I've got the guys been talking to him about it and he said they've been picking my brain just a little bit. But he was talking about like what he loved about the Flores defense and what makes it successful is that when you bring those big blitzes, you know that you are shortening the menu for the opposing offense. And so it makes it much more predictable. So we think about it as you're creating chaos by setting these big blitzes. But what you're actually doing is making the

8:30offense more predictable because you know, they're only going to be calling a certain selection of their their plays. If they know you're bringing a big blitz. But they don't know what the plays are at the plays offer. So there's no, there's no menu for them to limit because they have no idea what this menu is going to look like for the Eagles offense. So I actually think that part of it works in the Eagles favor. Yeah. And I think there the ability in both Sean Manion and Vic Fangio talked about this this week when talking about week one, the ability to adapt quickly is going to be the most important thing. Like after the first couple of drives, like which coordinator is going to be like, okay, they're doing this. We have to adjust and do something different. Even in that game last year against the Vikings, if you guys recall, that 79 year touchdown to Devante Smith. By all reporting, that was Devante Smith, like going to Patuolo being like, hey, every time we've run this run play, you know, they've been like the safety has been rotating down and I've been like wide open in this in this area. And sure enough, like they was it was early in the second half

9:32when they did the play action version off of that run play. And that was like, that's an that's an adjustment, right? That wasn't necessarily a game plan thing. That was an adjustment in game. So that kind of quick adjustment is going to be what it's all about. So with respect to Manion, BLGM, curious from the outside, how you felt about the trying out the sideline versus the booth, the decision to go to the booth. And what will you be watching when it comes to the operation and everything like that from from the this first time debut for for Manion? It is funny that the first preseason game was so bad in terms of the on field result that we saw. And then they changed it up. And then they looked better in that second preseason game. But they weren't that great. But yes, they were great. And also the third preseason game didn't go so it's not like, oh, they solved it just by putting him in the booth there. But you guys kind of talked about it earlier this week. I do think it makes sense for him to be there just like you I think you were alluding to this yesterday directly talking about the challenges of being on the sideline and trying to like see all that and how impressed you are at the same time with Mike McDonald, who's really kind of I

10:34feel he's really come up in terms of like your crushes. I think he's overtaken to Miko. Oh, yeah. You're absolutely smitten with Mike McDonald. I absolutely agree. I think this is not this is not that new. It's but I'm already looking forward to the downfall of Mike McDonald over the course of the next few years. Like like he starts losing games. Maybe a couple of scandals thrown in like to see how you're going to react. Love his family too much. We'll see. When I look at this defense though, like, you know, if we're just putting this schematics aside for a second and and frame brought this up. But where's the talent? Yeah. Where's the talent on the roster period, which is a big reason why I don't love this commander's teams outlook. But defensively, I'm just I'm looking at their depth chart and like who is striking fear in my heart right now? Tim settle. I was going to say Tim settle. Nick Cross is a nice player has broken, you know, the signing broken here on the show. Their ed rushers are banged up. They've been limited in practice this week. Guessing they'll play will see the final injury report. But there just isn't much. Doran Payne popped up on the injury report with a knee issue yesterday. So we'll see what that's all about across the board. I just I don't see

11:39where the talent is on this unit. Yeah. And even where there is like like, you know, equity port into the talent. You're talking about a linebacker playing his first game. It's not like you can expect him in sunny styles to, you know, be ready. Yeah. And like any rookie like you know, you have no idea what it's going to look like. And if it is going to be this kind of play action that tries to pick online backers. And if you talked to me about this earlier this week, like, I mean, that could be, you know, welcome to the NFL for him, right? Like we don't we don't know. All right, let's close the book on the big takeaway presented by Xfinity. Professor Asit relates to the operation. And, you know, how how much we saw this offense struggle with some of those things last year. What will you be keeping an eye on? Yeah. I mean, as much as we talk about the scheme and you're bringing in a shanty hand style guy and all this kind of stuff, like that's not that's not differentiating, right? Like everyone's bringing in guys like that. Everyone's going to more under center and things like that. For me, for minion, it's going to be all about how he handles the details during the games,

12:44right? Those were the things that were disastrous last year under Pettulo, whether it be like the sequencing of plays, the sloppy design, the sloppy execution, the pre snap penalties, and then just the operation. Like we spent the whole season talking about how late in the play clock, the ball was getting snapped. It was like historically high by the Eagles, like the percentage of plays that were the clock ran down to five, were it ran down to two. And when you watch the film, it looked like a circus, like it was like, you know, say, quons pointing one direction, land and pointing one direction, like cam start and around and is there lots of weight thing at the circus? I don't know. Yeah, I've been to the circus since I don't know if I've ever been to the circus, actually, now that I've figured out, yeah, I don't think I've ever been to the circus. I don't think I've ever been to the circus. Yeah. So I have no idea what the circus has never been to Washington DC. So like in Shanahan systems, the protections are typically the center's responsibility. And one of the things that I'm going to be looking for is like, and you know, it might be hard to see this from the stands, but like I'll definitely be looking at this on the film. Like it's like

13:46since Kelsey left, like it really hasn't seemed like the center's responsibility here. Like it's been a combination. Yeah. And you know, I've heard people mention that Landon Dickerson is much more involved in that part of the process than, you know, you're typically are. Yeah. And then you've got the I'm curious about like they do this at home sometimes too. Like the silent cadence thing where the right guard like taps the center, like, they're still going to do that, right? Like it's like, we have a new align coach and a new offense coordinator. There's no reason to think that those things are going to be the same. Because that was like the left guards pointing all over the place. The right guard has to like look back to do the pat thing. Like, you know, everyone else is pointing all over. They're shifting at the last second, not necessarily to fool the defense, but because they're confused themselves. Like are these things that we're going to stop seeing? Like it would be really nice if they just looked more professional. And I think that that like, you know, reflects on the results. And yet you do have to expect some degree of, you know, some sloppiness week one, given that not only did they not play in the preseason, but it's a brand new offense due to

14:46terminology. Like there's going to have to be some hits and starts. Yeah. As BLG was saying, I mean, it looked disastrous in the preseason. It was very funny. They get this, it started with like false starts and stuff. But what do you're getting there about the operation? I feel like even if offense as a whole isn't like, you know, dropping 40 or 30, whatever in week one, but if they look like more serious, yeah, less un-serious of an offense, like, yeah, that maybe just is a low baritically or in week one that would already kind of make you feel a little bit more encouraged. How many three and ounces too many for week one? Oh man. I mean, I know that if the first series is three and out, there are going to be like insane booze in that state. But I mean, like, we've been waiting the whole season, right? Like it's like, yeah, it'll be, yeah, I don't know how talking cheek it'll be. I mean, this is, this is a fan base that booed in week one of 2018, coming over the first super bowl in in franchise history because the first half didn't look so good. In that game, which was a win, by the way. Yeah, I mean, I really think it depends on the kind of

15:49three and out. Sure. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. There's a penalty. Yeah. It's okay. Like you'll understand, as long as there's like some kind of fall start and then like, let's say, let's say, like, run a run on second and 15. Here's an acceptable three. Yeah. Take one for four or five. Okay. Hold a ticky-tack holding penalty that, you know, that's we can, we can draw, we can take our eye on to the grass. Right. And the gates, and the gates of good play instead of, yes. And then so on third and 15, it's, you know, Devante for nine. It's that there's some positive movement. It's not a willshipply Howard straw. Yeah. That's what I'm saying. Like it's like, it would, it would, it's like a second and 15 run that gets it takes two plays for Nick to be like, all right, I'm taking off our couch draw here. Oh, man. Yeah. On schedule stuff. I'll remind everybody that the only way you can be on schedule by third down is if you get it to third and one. Like, the odds of getting a first down, starting at first and 10 are 72% in the NFL. And the only

16:49distance as of third down that gives you a higher chance than that is third and one. So even if it's third and two, you're behind schedule. Okay. And I really wish that every time a coach said we have to stay on schedule, some analytic sky would like be able to convince him. The only way you're on schedule by third down is if it's third and one. Like even if it's third and two, you're behind schedule. So maybe you should just try to get the first down before third down. What about the, you know, the cumulative punishment you're putting on a defense by running on them. I kind of like the cumulative punishment of like scoring points faster, but yeah. Okay. I like that we got so used to three and outs that were now brainstorming how three and how three and how three and outs can be good. Yeah, exactly. Yeah. Okay. What are your expectations for Devante, BLG? I'm I think it's a funny national kind of story of like the national perspective, like a watch out for Devante Smith. This guy's pretty good. Whereas locally, like to me, it's never been a story of how he can be a number one because he's done it before. He did it when he was a rookie. It's, you know, different in terms of time and space, but even we've all referenced the stats where Devante is playing and AJ is not and Devante has been awesome. Like any what about him? I mean, he's slider, but there's nothing about him that suggests he couldn't handle this role in my mind. Yeah, it's going to be interesting to see how the two main elements of AJ being on the team, like both disappear at the same time.

21:02Those two things being the way the defense plays when AJ's on the field. Yes. We saw them rolling if they're playing like one safety high and the other side that they're playing cover six for they're rolling a safety over one side. It was almost always over AJ side, like looking back, actually checked my notes to make sure this was true. That was the case. Like you look at the, you look at the playoff game against the 49ers last year. They played a lot of man blitzes where they blitzed five guys and then they're playing man across the board. Normally in that situation, the single high safety is going to play in the post. 49ers were rolling him over AJ side. Like, they were basically playing like almost double teaming AJ and playing cover zero. So defenses are going to play differently. They're going to be rolling over Devante now. Like, that's going to be different. The one thing that also changes, however, is, Dale and was throwing AJ the ball anyway. Like AJ averaged like eight and a half targets per game while he was here. Right? And nearly 10 yards of target in his four years. That was taking away a lot of the targets from Devante, even though he was getting that attention. So the question now is going

22:04to be like, now that AJ is not there, what's it going to look like? The only evidence we have of that is 2021. But Devante Smith only averaged six targets a game in 2021. Yeah. Like that led the team. But it was a very run heavy, you know, year, the following year, I think we have a graphic on on Devante's like targets like throughout his career, right? And it's his whole career. So 6.1 led the team, but but it's actually like his lowest number of his career. So it's weird. Like, we've never really seen him get that really large number of targets a game. It'll be very interesting to see like what that looks like. And in terms of his the way he's used, I mean, last year, I remember, I think it was Jeff McLean asked him like about whether there's enough variety in his routes. And in that Devante way, he said, sometimes there isn't. Sometimes there's not like, and you look and he was second in the NFL and hit throughout percentage, among wide receivers, second only to Johan Dotson. So, you know, it was not an interesting usage of

23:05last year. So like, is he going to be put in motion? Is he going to be put in motion? Is he going to be put in these situations where he is, you know, stacked and hidden from the guy who's trying to press him like all those things? I mean, that's what that's what I really want to see in this in this passing to me. That is the the the thing that I'm most interested in about the passing game, right? Is does it really look like Sean Manion is putting the game plan together with the express purpose of getting Devante Smith and advantageous positions? And sometimes that means having him in the slot, having him be the motion guy, you know, whatever the route combinations, whatever it is. Yeah. Like I want it to look like, you know, not exactly like, you know, the Jackson Smith and Jigba thing is an easy comparison given what he did last season. But I want it to look like that is how they begin the game plan process every week is how do we make sure that we get Devante singled up on somebody and get him the ball? Right. And I mean, this offense, like since AJ's got in here at least has been very much like concentrated on a small number of passcauters, right? The

24:07Eagles have been like, they do like this genie index thing where it's like how much equality is there in targets, right? And the Eagles were so the day. So yeah, good question. So this used to be on NFL elo. I found it on sumer sports. But like basically it's this like the chance I had. Yeah, Sean's I had exactly the higher you are. I'm very happy if I rubbed a bottle and Sean's I had popped out willing to grant me three wishes. What a gift. What would you wish for? Yeah, what would you wish for? Good question. From Sean's I would ask for one good movie recommendation. Okay. Can I ask for more wishes? I think that's a good idea. I would ask for I don't know. I got to think about it. Okay. On this third receiver point, if that buys you time, this one dimension the average for the third receiver in terms of receiving. I like this one. Yeah, over the past five years going back to the start of the serione hurts era is 259 yards.

25:11That is like it's an insanely low number. And when I look at it, it's not like they've been injured or anything like John Watson played the whole season. Like, you know, Quest Watchens played the whole season. Now it's important to say that that's it is the fourth option. Sure. In the passing game, even though it's wide receiver three because Dallas got it's up there. But yeah, I would expect that's true for a lot of teams. I know I would expect whoever wide receiver three is for that to be closer to, I don't know, 450. So, but like, McHy lemon's over under is listed at 575.5. And like right now entering the season, he is the third receiver at this. So it seems like he's also a rookie. Rookie's numbers are always low. Yeah. People think. Yeah, I mean, the back to this genie index thing, the higher ranked you are on this, the more inequality there is, right? And so the Eagles were sixth last year, ninth year before, fourth year before that because AJ and Devon, they're getting all those targets. And no one else really is. The Packers were Manion came from 31st, 27th, 31st, 29th, like they've always spread it out a lot. Now part of

26:14that's personnel. Obviously they don't have that like star receiver. They throw to the tight ends a lot and so on. But Manion's coming from a place where the norm was spread it out, you know, throw to whose open. Maybe there's a pure progression. You're reading the defense during the play. And that's something I'm really going to be looking at as well. Like Fran has been going nuts about this for years now, where if Jaylin's reading left or right, there's a concept. And the concept involves like AJ and Dallas got it on one side, for example. It's not there. By the time he turns to the other side, the concept on that side is dead. It's like it's not timed up so that if the first thing's not open, the second thing is slower developing by design. We haven't seen that. It's almost been like pick aside before the play. And like if that doesn't work, like we're screwed. Right. Like like and that happened a lot last year, especially because it was such a predictable menu from which those plays were being chosen. That could affect distribution as well. Right. Like if the design is good enough, that Jaylin can actually throw to everyone on the field in any given play based on who's open. Then maybe the third receiver will get some catches that way. Like

27:18not because there he has designs designed for him, but because like that's who the defense left open to an extent, right. But like don't you kind of need to see it to believe it in terms of because Jaylin. I'm not saying that's going to happen. I'm saying that's what I want to see. Sure. Yeah. Jaylin's just so big on trust that I feel like that's what I kind of boils down to. And it's not like I blame him for throwing to the great players he's had on the team. But I do think there's a better balance to be struck when it comes to involving some of the other options. I kind of feel like I believe that Jaylin is more likely to throw over the middle of the field more than I do that he is to have a completely equal our total journey. You know, like 100%. I think I think who Jaylin is is more wedded to these are my top two or three guys. Then I am, okay, I'm just concerned with the outside. I feel like we even told him not to be wrong, but that's kind of how I feel when Devonte and lemon mistime this year, I mean, he was peppering Don't even wicks over. I'm gonna say like his tail wicks the guy then. Yeah. It's going to be that guy

28:18who is like the real third target in this. I think so. And is going to be, you know, like an actual factor, you know, like like not. I do. Yeah. The number two receiver. I think Jaylin trusts him a lot. How do you feel about like good or bad having a narrow target share versus doing it the Packers way? Well, I mean, if you have a star receiver like AJ Brown, like we were yelling like last year, like through the ball to AJ, like what are we doing? Like you can have a target the whole first half of that first game if you guys remember, like it was like like what it like, how is this what they came into the season with like a plan that doesn't involve throwing AJ the ball. But when you don't have a guy like AJ Brown, right? When you only have like one star receiver and that star receiver maybe can be taken away by certain coverages. He's not the biggest guy and so on like all these things like then I do want to see plays that try to exploit where the weaknesses and the defense are going to be for example, you have like two super short outside corners on Washington, right?

29:22If they are going to look like a Flores defense, that means they're going to play a lot of cover two. Okay, if they play cover two, they're going to be in the flat. Run Dallas got it out there and have them out muscle. San Ristil and Amit Robertson for a ball. You know what I mean? Like it's like a week by week thing that picks on the defense is okay with me. As long as there's some identity, like that. Yeah, that's coming from like so I don't know. I don't have like a I like thinking of it like the distributed just for the evolution of the NBA over the past decade or so where it goes from. Okay, you need your big three and that's all that matters to actually what really matters is that all five guys in the field are on the on the court are an actual threat and you have to be bench and it's really more about having to guard everything. Yeah, yeah, I mean, look, the idea of like throw to your like throw to everybody looks good until you're throwing the Quest walkins and Super Bowl and he drops it, right? And you lose the game because of that. Right. Like it's like like it was cute that he threw that ball to Quest walkins, but like maybe you should have thrown it to someone who was more covered who would have got the ball. So there we go. 30:25Goddard this year? I'll start with you to be able to. I don't think he had a great camp, not a bad training camp, but not I thought he had a better one last summer. Let's put it that way. And he's another year older. I still think you can play like I'm not worried about him not being able to contribute, but in any kind of like big way and any kind of talking about like, you know, Tucker craft like that kind of thing like I don't buy that in part because I don't think he's going to be able to stay healthy if they're using him like that for the course of the whole season. So I'm kind of just expecting similar to what we saw last year, except with the exception, I think the touchdowns are going to go down. Obviously that was a huge number. Hopefully the yak goes up. Yeah. I mean, the Jalenharts was 30 second among quarterbacks last year in yak for completion. Like he was 12th the year before it was hitching back towards the line of scrimmage. Yeah. Well, exactly. So even even if it was complete, it was just a hitch. So yeah, you can see that there means sixth in 21 and 22 and then it went down in 23, but

31:25back up in 24 and then just like career low last year in part because of the scheme. But I mean, Dallas got it has never been like a high volume pass catcher, right? He's never averaged six targets a game in his career. You know, it's it's always been like between five and six. And so do we think he's suddenly going to become a higher volume pass catcher at the current age that he's at when the Eagles were like barely interested in bringing him back each of the last two years? Like probably not. At the same time, I think there's a high ceiling for Dallas gotter. I mean, I talked about Dallas gotter for a while on Wednesday show, like talking about how like he really seems to fit a lot of things that green baited well last year. And Johnny Mont is here as maybe a bit of a like protector of Dallas gotter both in terms of snaps and also in terms of blocking responsibility. Having said that, Johnny Mont's career like a lot of his awesome blocking has not been like in line. Like a lot of times he's like on the outside blocking and do you know, like so it'll be interesting to see like if those roles are as well defined as we might think they they'll

32:30be were Johnny Mont's like basically a sixth offensive lineman and gotter is basically a slot receiver. That might not be what it looks like. So I'm very interested to see how the tight ends are going to be used. I mean, the packers lined up the tight ends in the backfield a lot like almost as fullbacks and like use them in certain types of play action situations where it looked like they were going to block and then they leaked out and stuff like that. So we'll see. But I mean, yeah, Dallas gotter. It's not. I don't think he's going to break a career high and targets per game or anything. The blocking needs to be better than it was last year. That was clearly wasn't the same player we saw from earlier in his career. And that makes me wonder what we're going to see this year because he's another year older and he's also playing on another one year contract. So I would hope he's a lot better there at the very least. For sure. He didn't look interested last year. Yeah, like like he really didn't look interested in blocking in a way that was very different than what we what we're used to. So hopefully you look interested and sticking around. So, biggest thing that I feel like I've learned this week is the curiosity about the run game. I feel like we're starting to get a clearer vision. Maybe it's because Sean Mangins transitioned from this install phase to now being in a week one game plan. But I think that it is fair to say that there's like an end through the astic optimism and curiosity about what it's going to look like. You know, the things that jump out to me from being here this week. Sean Manion, actually, I got an anecdote today that traces back the OTAs that I wanted to talk about, which is that Sean Manion started his day one install. Like the first day during OTAs, when he's talking about what his vision is for the offense,

38:43he said the foundation was going to be wide zone and made it clear. Like everything that they're going to do is built around that run concept. And we learned yesterday on Thursday that Sean Manion, like got his start in coaching actually by drawing run concepts for the Green Bay Packers. And it was interesting seeing it up on the podium. He sort of lit up when he was talking about the run game and the intricacies of the run game. This is a former quarterback. It's a guy who has obviously spent his whole playing career mastering past concepts. And I almost seemed like he got energized by the start he had in coaching by drawing up the run game. So I think it's going to be, like the engine is what I've heard players say to describe. I think that's how Sean Manion also turned it. And Johnny, the last thing I wanted to add about the run game, Johnny, once said it's been kind of fun seeing like this offensive line with this much athleticism and talent take to the wide zone blocking scheme where you are using more of your athleticism, more of your lateral quickness. And I think, you know, Jordan Milatis said to me like when they

39:45started to really get a handle on it, like it's like, man, no wonder Trent Williams has been able to play so deep into his career. So at such a high level. And it's like, again, there's almost been like an enlightenment. The wild card I'd say is something that you said you were going to talk about in the segment, though, which is the QB run game. Jalen called it a unique opportunity to add the QB run game to the system. He said it's not something you've seen in other, you know, versions of this system. And I really don't know what to expect there. Again, the fact that Jalen called it a unique opportunity makes it sound like it's something they could take advantage of. But yeah, that to me, you know, as I've, you know, been asking guys around the locker room all week, the run game has been central to it because I really truly believe it will be central to what they want to do offensively. Let's put a pin in the Jalen part of it because we're going to talk about that in a different segment. But okay. And when it comes to sake one, then, I talked to sake one this week, are your expectations that he is going to have? I know we've talked about like big picture expectations, but especially this weekend that it's going to be like very heavy sake one.

40:50I do. I do. I mean, when you think about the live zone system, the outside zone, and then do it off of it, being the pillar, the foundation for this offense, I think sake one central to it. sake one's talked before, you know, about his enthusiasm for this game and how he feels like it's going to kind of unlock a few things for him personally. So yeah, week one, especially I think, I just think it's very clear that they want to set the tone that they can run the ball and that that unlocks the rest of the offense. And I think, you know, it's not dissimilar to the past iterations of the Eagles offense. It's going to look a lot different to be a lot more under center. It's going to be a lot more outside zone and do well than the, you know, the as Johnny Mutt puts it, he calls it narrow zone. I don't think I've ever heard narrow zone before. Her tight zone inside zone, but you know, narrow zone into your your your the SARS of football guy terms here. I think it's going to look a lot different, but I think it's still going to be centered around sake one, dark. And narrow is the opposite of wide, you know, it makes sense. I mean, yeah, I like, I like tight zone. I think that sounds that's I mean, it's also yeah, I like that. Don't make that weird.

41:54Yeah. All right. You're really setting it up for bow here. You did a close. I had a question. Okay. God, goodness. It was okay. Eagles released a video yesterday, like one of those all access things where where yeah, it was like 20 minutes of like the offense and like it was more than they usually allow on those things in terms of like seeing plays and seeing certain things. One of the things that intrigued me on that and this was like over the course of like a month. So it's not necessarily all recent, but, you know, Dallas gutter and Jalen are talking about how the the play call is weird. Like it's like, like, you know, the it's like backwards. Like he like thinks, maybe it like switches like when you say the route versus when you say the position running the route, something like that. I'm curious talking to guys in the building. If now that it's time to go, you know, like two days from the first game, if all of those things are are at this point, second nature to everybody, or if there's maybe a chance that we're going to see some slop, you know, early on, because people aren't used to some of the new ways things are going to be done, especially since, you know, none of the starters play in the preseason.

42:57Yeah, I definitely think the procedural aspect, you know, the getting the calls in and out of the huddle getting to the line, and even a new cadence. Jalen's talked about over the summer. It wouldn't surprise me to see them have some growing pains with that. You know, Jalen talked a lot about the transition and the evolution that he's had to undergo and that this offense is at undergo. And I don't think he really should have coded it. And I don't think he tried to make it sound like they've got it all, you know, under their belt going into week one. So yeah, I think it would be fair to say like, you know, more pre-stat penalties. I mean, probably not compared to last year when they had a lot already, but I think, you know, based off of what we saw in the summer, it wasn't issue early in camp. They got better at about it as training can't progress. But yeah, I think the fact that they didn't play in the preseason, the fact that there are so much newness with this with this scheme and with the things that they're doing just operationally, I do think that there's going to be some growing pains and probably some learning curves that they have to overcome there. What about injury wise, we talked on the show yesterday about whether or not Grinard's going to play this weekend. I know you've talked to Eli Stowers as well. What's the news

43:59on those guys who have been limited? Yeah. So Eli Stowers says he expects to play. He said he expects to, he said that he expects to be involved on special teams. Now listen, what else is he going to say? Because I see the way you're looking and I would felt the same way that you're looking at what I felt when he said it. Oh, of course we've got to be sure. If he's not going to play, he's not going to say that. He's like, oh, yeah, I'm not going to be up. But it'll be interesting. It will be interesting to see what they do there. I'd be surprised if he's up just because he missed time during training camp and you got to keep in mind, he didn't play any special teams at Vanderbilt. He didn't even pretend. He said, oh, I did it a little bit at Vanderbilt, but really not not very much. And he kind of, he had a little bit of a moment like a little ego checkmate I like where he goes like, yeah, my role got expanded on offense. That was pretty short lived me being on special teams, which I mean good for you. But I think as you're looking at it for week one, I don't expect him to have a role on special teams as he kind of keeps going through that transition.

45:00And it's hard to envision him having much of a role on offense either. But healthy at the very least healthy four week one. Grenard, I'm less convinced about. I feel like I feel like the fact that he said he wasn't quite 100% on Thursday. I don't know if you if you mentioned that earlier in the show, but that he we heard from him on Thursday said that he's he's getting closer, but he's not 100%. I just don't see why you risk it. So yeah, it would surprise me if he was up. I know I said Wednesday, I thought he would be, but hearing from him changed my mind. If he's not close to 100% yet or not 100% I don't see why Vic with Vic of all people would rush him back. Go ahead and I got an Eli Stowers. Well, that that was funny. That Eli Stowers said he had a role on special teams because Michael Clay was asked in his pressur specifically about whether Eli Stowers would have a role. And he had to like think for a little while. And he was like, sure. Like it did not think in a mistake at all. And then he was like, I mean, every player might have a role on special teams. It did not it did not seem to me like it was a thing. Yeah. I mean, the Eli Stowers, I think it's

46:06very funny that we talked about tight end usage for so long on Wednesday when we were talking about the soft ends, talking about how the Packers featured their tight ends and everything. And that the Eagles drafted a tight end in the second round. And his name did not come up on the show. Like like we didn't mention him. And then the only time he got mentioned on yesterday's show is when Fran said he thinks he's going to be inactive. I know how he has this fetish for tweener wide receiver tight ends. I can't believe they use the second round pick to feed that fetish this year. Like I still can't believe it. Like I know it wasn't a good draft. I know it wasn't like there weren't obvious names calling out at that point in the draft. But I mean, like we haven't learned from like all of these very, you know, the Albertos and the Game butlers and everything else. I was just very surprised like after all the talk of how we need tight ends who can block and run routes that they didn't add a single tight end who can do both things. I agree. They added one guy who can only block and they added another guy who's not NFL ready. He can only catch passes. Like it's

47:06just shocking to me. Like that's what they did with the second round pick. But anyway, whatever. Speaking of fetishes, people are noticing your feet in the jet. Oh yeah, I noticed that. That made me very uncomfortable to see that that was the case. I think I have very nice feet. So, yes. Feel G. I think his feet are great too. Is that what you're asking for? For free too. I mean, that's what a deal. That's not even die hard. On Stowers, like even if you want to say, you know, you want to give them time a long term play. Of course. But like there is value loss in burning the year of a contract. And for even for him, just to not be active for special teams, I think that's like a little tough. I'm not even expecting him to not. No one's asking him to be Travis Kelsey from Game One. It's like, can you be active for Game One? And Michael play also had talked about EJ Jenkins and his role as a core four special teamer to the point about like not really mentioning Eli Stowers as much. Yeah. I mean, EJ Jenkins played in the Super Bowl on special names like as Michael Clay remind us how he roseman also reminded that was very funny.

48:10How much talk to that there's been. Don't forget that tells you the real key to that Super Bowl win was EJ Jenkins like was. I think that tells you that's exactly the kind of management that how he was doing behind the scenes when Michael Clay lost Camlato. Right. But his how he's like, remember EJ played it. It's like. That's kind of how I read that. All right. EJ anything else from you just to close the book on the week at the facility. Two more quick things for you. I don't want to overstate the importance of the backup quarterback position. Although the Eagles have done that in the past. They have talked about how much they value the position and Jeffrey Laurie, I believe said it was one of the six most important positions in the organization at some point. But we don't know who the Eagles number two quarterback is going to be on Sunday. I don't think Tanner Key or Andy Dalton know. Maybe they found out between the when we talked to them earlier in the week and now. I think that there is a real chance that they have

49:12and know this sounds crazy. I'm not. It feels crazy for me to even say it. It wouldn't shock me if both Andy Dalton and Tanner Key are active on Sunday. I feel like I say that and like there's an explosion behind me and it's like, why would you say that? But it wouldn't shock me. The answer would the reason for it would be if you don't trust one of them to get you through a game and an emergency. I still probably wouldn't put more than like 40 turkeys on it just because it feels but I would put 40 turkeys on it. Do you think there's any chance? I got nothing to say about this. Does this is there any chance that this continues beyond this week that like they decide who this week's quarterback two is, but they're still splitting reps next week and it's a week by week thing. Well, the thing is that Nick Sireon said today and listen, Nick, he obfuscates a lot on the podium, but I do think everyone is, but I think there is the truth to he said that they're going to,

50:16like those two guys have been competing on the practice field this week for the job. And I think that that wording is telling that it's like they're waiting for one of those guys to he's putting a room with a broken pool queue and get it over with legs. Yeah, I don't know. I maybe, I mean, nothing would surprise me with this situation. It's not the most important thing at all. We need to belabor it because of the fact that like this team should be really good and they should win this game. But you know, who's going to be the number two quarterback? Maybe we'll learn when they enact this. But having them both active, do you think having them both active would would also go along with still not telling them who the number two is? Like if they still didn't know on Wednesday, they have to they have to know by so you're right. So they have to hide it from everybody else. It's just to like not reveal to them. No, I mean, why would you do it if you're if you care about anything other than other people knowing who it is, right? I don't think it can just be for competitive advantage because if it

51:21were for competitive advantage, they would have just told Andy Dalton or Tanner McKee that they're the backup quarterback. The fact that they, and they wouldn't have splitting reps. They're splitting reps. Yeah, they're splitting reps really speaks to the fact that they're still waiting for one of those guys to just separate themselves. 55:27Back in the P&T, why you go to podcast time now for the draft kings matchup breakdown. And I'm curious, Professor, how you feel and BLG about Jalen running, potentially. On Sunday, I believe on draft kings, the overrunner and rushing arts for him in this game is 29.5. To me, I'm thinking that would lean over, but I don't know. Last year we didn't see him run very much. What did you see in that trend? Yeah, I think we have this graphic Jalen Hurts on non-Sneak designed runs in his career. I mean, he had been averaging three and a half or more a game every year. And last year we saw a dip all the way down to one and a half. I don't know if he has remember like first half of the season in particular, it was under one a game. And then they increased it a little bit near the end of the year in terms of his effectiveness on those runs. It was kind of the same as in past years. In fact, it was a little more effective last year.

56:30And it just seemed like it was part by coaches decision, part by his decision. And I definitely raised the eyebrow on Wednesday when Jalen mentioned like kind of unpromptive that I mean, he was asked about it, but he didn't have he doesn't usually reveal this much like he said, this type of offense doesn't usually involve that, right? And him saying that made me wonder like we were talking about before the show, like does that mean that it's not going to involve it? Or is he also saying there's re-automatic something interesting? Junction with that said, you know, on that front, I do what I'm coached to do. And so that would make you think it's more of, well, that's not what we do in this offense. But I read it more as that's an element that we can bring to this offense that it doesn't have. How about you, Bill? I agree with that. And we had talked about that a little bit when we were talking about overs and unders for the season where you would put Jalen. And I feel like there had to be a little bit of a come to Jesus moment in terms of like the running element of his game, not being there enough last year. And when you look at his rushing numbers last year compared to earlier in his career,

57:33it wasn't like slightly less. It was like significantly less in terms. So I feel like they're going to there's a way to bridge that gap where he's not maybe running as often as he did earlier in his career. But for this over under that you mentioned this week, I mean, he cleared that in all three regular season games against the commanders over the past two years, not the playoff game in the championship game did not get there. And part is they just had so much passing the ball. So I would lean over because I think it's going to be more of an element. And even so that he looks slim down. I think I think there is something to that coming back. We have to distinguish between design runs and scrambles. Right. So like week one last year, if you guys remember against Alice, like Jalen won that game scrambling. Yes. Like he had like multiple touchdown scrambling, like huge first down scrambling. He like scrambled more in that game than any game the rest of the year. Right. So one thing is like, is he going to scramble when given the opportunity? The other thing is, are there going to be things in the in the game plan designed for him to run? The under center stuff, right? Doesn't usually go with the latter, right? Like you're not typically

58:35going to have designed quarterback runs from under center. But if you have a play action bootleg and nobody's open, like is he going to take, you know, something we've seen like Drake May do in key situations like in the AFC championship game where it wasn't a design run, but he kind of knew he was going to keep it the whole time. Are there going to be things like that? That Jalen takes advantage of more since by design, he will be running in what do you care more about the design runs or the scrambles? I mean, I like, I really, I don't, I don't think I prefer one to the other. I mean, like, I really don't want him to not scramble just because he thinks like he should be a passing quarterback or whatever. Like, and that's not something that I think he's consciously done. Honestly, like we've seen that, like if we're if you're old enough, you've seen that in this down before. And I'm talking about Donovan McNabb, who like when he was in his early part of his career, right, was very effective, like, like running the ball. And then he kind of decided that he didn't want to be that. And he probably did that earlier than his body, like, stop letting him do it.

59:37Right. Having said that, Jalen is getting older, like he is going to slow down a little bit. And, like, of course, we want to see him be able to do it multiple ways, like, you know, Michael Jordan is his idol, right? And as Michael Jordan got older, what did he do? He developed a different kind of game because he put in just dunk on guys. Like, so I'm sure he thinks about that. But within this scheme, like he will have opportunities that he didn't have before to run. And I hope he takes advantage of those. And the Packers had like a whole thing where Jordan love, like, could keep the ball. They had RPOs. They had like a spinner series where they were doing cool stuff with the quarterback. Malik Willis was effective in the Green Bay offense. Like, kind of think that the screen, they can't do it are safer. Safer in terms of injury. Yeah. And then design rounds. You're not in the middle of the field. You're your own, you're only taking your opportunities when it looks like there's something there, usually near the sideline. And he's always been very good about it. He is good at protecting himself. Yeah. So I don't know. I do, I want to see him open it up a little bit. Yeah. When he has gotten hurt, it has typically been on design runs like Chicago, Washington two years ago,

This past first against this commander's offensive one. That's the matchup to you. Like the biggest reason I feel confident in the Eagles winning this game is because I look at that commander's offensive line, which I was looking back at some of the consensus offseason offensive line rankings. They're about like 23rd in the league. That's for the tons of injury. Yeah. And that's a massive loss for them because they're obviously now worse at left tackle. They're moving Brandon Coleman from left guard, from where he was in a competition with Chris Paul to left tackle. Brandon Thorn, great offensive line expert. As we know, he had Nick Allegretti, the manager's starting center is

1:01:43like the worst starting center, like 36 out of 36, I believe. Same Cosme. He played guard last year. So he's also changing like like that's two guards that are now playing different. And it feels like, okay, he didn't play great there. So now we'll try to put him in at center and maybe that'll go better. And Cosme is a good player. Conor Lee, I didn't like for the Eagles when he was in the mix of I didn't want him. So it's not even like I'm just saying, oh, we played for the commanders. He staying. So that's not a player I loved. Maybe he's better in year two, but I couldn't feel more confident about what we saw from this Eagles front in training camp. I feel so good about J. Leaks hunt. I feel so good about Nolan Smith. I don't think they should play Johnson, Bernard. Like we just talked about earlier because at all, I mean, if he's not 100% like I just don't want to force the issue there when I feel like you have, I think they have enough without him in week one to get by and hopefully buy him more time to get right. So I couldn't feel better about this matchup. Well, so you feel about this matchup when we come back in.

1:02:51Okay, yeah, to follow up on a BLG point about this offensive line, like when I was preparing my commanders step the chart and looking at it, I always put like in bold like new players and in italics like rookies, it's shocking that their offensive line was so bad and they don't have any new players on it. Like it's like they just brought back guys. And you know, I know Tonsville's injured, but like I mean, Brandon Coleman has played left tackle before he played left tackle in the NFC championship game. So I don't think we knew that until kick off. I think I mentioned that and then the game the game's last year he was left tackle as well. So he's played there before, but he's not like he's not an NFL like starting level left tackle. The one thing I like is that their best player is Sam Cosme, the right guard, and he's going to be up against Jalen Carter. And the reason I like that is because we talk so much and you know, you guys talk so much in the off season about like who the 53rd guy is going to be and then it's about the main character. Yes. Well, who's the main character on the Seagulls defense? Jalen Carter, right? Like if we can see Jalen Carter have a monster season. So Lager. This defense can be like like even better than

1:03:54it's been the last two years. And like for him to go up against Sam Cosme the first game, like it's you know, it's good. That's cool. You get a good matchup. And if he can dominate him, like that'll be awesome to see. And he hasn't always dominated Sam Cosme. So it'll be it'll be that'll be a fun one to watch on. And otherwise not very exciting Washington offense. Yeah. Is there any possible Vick surprise that could be in the offing defensive side of the ball? I really I really liked Cooper DeGene in the locker room the other day saying we've expanded the playbook. There's more stuff in like he just said that on his own. And I was like, okay, like let's see it, you know, like because like anytime Vick does something different, it's fun. Like it's something fun. You can tell a lot of thought went into it. There's a there's a very solid structure to this defense. Like they always start with too high. You know, they always start with like boxes things like that. But then the rotations and like some of the kind of surprise coverages can be interesting. And so I can't wait to see what that is. I don't know. We'll see. I don't think it's going to be like crazy emotional blitzing or anything like that. But

1:04:57I'm I'm excited. And I'm also excited because I'm just like a nerd about this kind of stuff. To see how he uses Rick Wollon is he going to be on the field side the whole time the way Adoree Jackson was last year is McCuba going to stay to the field at safety because he played field safety the entire time as a rookie that he was that he was healthy and read blank and chip played boundary safety. And that might seem like it doesn't matter because in the NFL, the hashes are pretty close to the middle of the field. Like who cares if it's if field or boundary. But the way Vick calls this coverage is the boundary safety has very different like responsibilities. Like Reed was the one who typically rotated down to cover the flat, for example, in zone coverage and that kind of thing. Are they going to put those kinds of things on McCuba's plate or are they going to let like markets up to that. And then in base, it would be natural to me for Cooper to gene to be to be the one coming closer down because that's where he's used to playing anyway. So I'll be looking for all that stuff and you know with different casted characters, different things that

1:05:58Vick can do against the guy David Blau who you don't know what to expect from either. No idea. I mean, if you thought Dorante Jones's pressers weren't revealing, I mean, like I want the allow me. I was listening on two times speed and I want the I want those seven minutes of my life back. The David Blau presser this week. Better worse than Pat Schumer. Not as entered at Pat Schumer. I found Pat Schumer entertaining because like it's shocking because first time entertaining like how you could be that boring. Like like you like such extreme like low-ender form. Yeah, I mean, like how can you be that low energy? It seems impossible. How can you be a football coach and have like no energy at all? I thought that was a fascinating dichotomy there. All right. How do you see this game playing out for added? The line is a little suspicious to me.

1:06:59I agree. It should be more. It should be more than five and a half because the Eagles, I think, just have way more talent. I just I trust in every matchup they have going for them in this game, especially the ones that matter the most. So that's in my head and maybe I'm under rating the fact that Janine Niels was awesome in 2024 and maybe he's healthy and maybe he's throwing the stiff digs and he's throwing to Terry McCloren and we're all like, wow, maybe we we're not giving them enough credit or maybe giving the Eagles defense too much credit, but I mean, that's the one scenario that I see and and I don't see that happening. So ultimately, I think the Eagles are going to win this game. I think they're going to control the line of scrimmage. I think it should be a nice start. Not a perfect, you know, no blowout or anything. I have at 24 Eagles from Anders 13. In terms of facing Jaden Daniels and also other mobile quarterbacks that has been a little bit of a weakness when this Eagles defense the last two years. I mean, we saw Justin Herbert have a big game scrambling last year in LA Eagles played a couple of zone reads in that game very poorly. I'm
