Eagle Forum Sues Tuscaloosa Library for Religious Discrimination

Last Tuesday, attorneys from the Alliance Defending Freedom filed a federal lawsuit against the Tuscaloosa Public Library, the City of Tuscaloosa, and the City of Northport. The suit represents Eagle Form of Alabama, a Christian non-profit. It accuses the library of denying the group access to public meeting rooms because of its religious views while allowing secular organizations to use. The library's policy reportedly permits community groups without religious ties to book the rooms freely. Eagle Form claims this set of discriminates against them and violates their first amendment rights to free speech and religious exercise. Leaders from Eagle Form express frustration, saying libraries should welcome all viewpoints and protect open discussions. Alliance Defending Freedom lawyers called the policy unconstitutional discrimination and urged the court to restore equal access for the group. Eagle Form of Alabama started in 1986 as a state branch of the national organization, which promotes traditional family values rooted.
