Good evening. Thanks for joining tonight. Looks like you got your clock set ahead correctly if you're here on time. We're going to get started here in just a minute.
Alright, hey guys. Once again, thanks for joining. We're going to kick it off here. I'm going to leave that right there and put that over there and welcome to another live stream. Sunday night, seven o'clock, seven o'clock central daylight time now. And yeah, so we're going to talk tonight about this. I made a video about this like a week and a half ago about updates to the proposal to add low-band frequencies to GMRS users. And that video is sitting at like 32,000 views right now, which is a good number for a video that new on my channel. So yeah, we're going to we're going to talk about that tonight.
It seems to be kind of a hot topic. And I hope that you guys from the chat will have some stuff to say as well. So the first thing I'm going to say is that this coming when I'm flying I'm flying to Newark on Wednesday. And I was invited up there by Ed into XDD. He's the Hudson Division Director for AWRL. Apparently, there's a school somewhere on Staten Island. He told me the name. I don't remember the name right now. There's a school of students on Staten Island that and I think he said there's going to be like a hundred students tested on Thursday morning. So he wanted me to come up and record that. So that's where we'll be on Thursday morning. And and then after that, we're going to hop on a train and head. I don't have my geography in my head correctly from Staten Island to Connecticut, whichever direction that is. I want to say south, but I feel like it's probably more east. I don't know. But we're going to head from Staten Island to Connecticut to attend the Hamside event.
The Hamside event is Friday or Saturday Sunday this year. They usually have it Friday Saturday. We go home on Sunday, but this year it's going to be all day Friday or all day Saturday and all day Sunday. Friday's going to be kind of like a freebie day. And I'm going to go tour the AWRL headquarters. I think Steve Goodgame's going to be there. I was kind of hoping he'd be in the chat tonight. Haven't seen him yet. And probably go hang out with some people in the area that night. I think is those going to come up on Friday as well. I think he took the day off on Friday. So yeah, if you guys are around the Newington, Connecticut area or the AWRL headquarters, the Hamside is actually a new Britain. It's just, I think it's just right down the road. And then they've got a, I think Sunday afternoon or something. They've got a tour planned with all the Hamside people, but we might try something before that. So if you guys are in the area, come join us for sure. And if you want to key, and I'll be sending a couple of emails about what I just told you this
week in my email list, I'm doing some really cool new things with that. My email list. I've been doing some research about how to build email lists, how, what to do with them, how to, you know, promote them and whatnot. So you guys sign up on my email list, hamradio2.com forward slash email dash sign up. You'll see a form like this. If you go to that website and join us for the fun. And, uh, to keep in touch and keep up with all the stuff that we're doing. And that, um, hearing, yeah, that's right. Uh, was that Stuart Smolley from Saturday Night Live, I think? Yeah. Uh, good, but yeah, keep up with the email lists. So appreciate you guys who have joined that. Let me give a shout out real quick to all the folks in green text in the chat. You guys right there. Well, let's, let's do that. I like this few better. YouTube channel members.
Thank you for joining. Thanks for being here. Rail airgator was first tonight in Chavez, KJ5, HHT radio, Wayne in Texas, Tom WB70 UT. Let's see who else. AC3, IK, Ed, KT4, EM, KC5, QQ, Tortoise Overland was in there earlier. Thanks for joining early guys. KG6 NLW Frank. What's going on, buddy? Chad. Let's see who up 45 autos in there. KC4, MHH is in there. Lee and N7X. Trying to make sure I get everybody. Andy KJ, or K7J, KA. That's a Andy. I don't understand your call sign there, buddy, but okay. PRK radio. JSVTLIK. I guess it's your last name. Thanks for being here, bud. Who else? Quail, dog USA. That's a cool name. I get on board with that one.
45 auto. KB5 UTY Dave's in the chat. Good evening, Dave. 45 auto again. Jacob. Frank again. Jerry. N8OWV. Paul the Southern Ham. Good evening. Brian KG5 MLL. Good evening. So, yeah. Psych Ham doc. Psych Ham doc. That's two words you don't hear, or three words you don't hear together very often. Thanks for being here, guys. Appreciate it. So we're going to talk about GMRS low band stuff. And first, I got to bring on the hooligans. And we've got an even number of hooligans now. So I just had two in there before, but Joe Brett, what's up? Hey, man, what's going on? I worked Joe Brett from where the heck was I? Death Valley? California, yeah. Yeah, it was California. So it was rough. Yeah, it was. Yeah, it was rough. Yeah, I worked for like 20 minutes.
Where I, you know, I heard you in there. And I'm like, I'm like, that's pretty indistinct or, you know, pretty easy to pull out of a pile up usually. But yeah, you were, the bands were not alive that day. They just weren't. You was coming up and down a little bit. Yeah, I quit saying phononics. And I just said, you know, he's going to recognize it. What I did, that's what happened. I just exactly would have to start to do a KB5 YVY. Yeah. So thanks for being here, but. Man, yeah, I had to see what this low-band GMR stuff was. We're going to talk about it if you haven't seen that. That's like a big hand. Yeah. Yeah. I don't think they realize that. That's one of the things I want to talk about. So Frank, what's going on, man? I guess you didn't go upstairs, I guess. No, still, still not going to happen. Okay. Well, hey, you get to smoke as a guard now, man. Another one with that. I had help by my girlfriend who's helping me bring everything down so I can set up in the garage.
Okay. Good. Cool. Well, Jeff and Tim were in there earlier. I was talking to them earlier. So guys, thanks for being here tonight. You guys in the chat that are usually in the Zoom, y'all are welcome to join us too. I did send an email out this morning and I sent a discord message out a couple days ago. I think it was. So this is an open, this is a small group. And that's okay. That's okay. Well, we'll, we'll, we'll make it work. It's still be a good discussion. Did it bring forward this morning or late? No, maybe not. Yeah. Maybe they think it's six o'clock right now. I don't know. But, uh, but yeah, these, uh, we did a discussion topic in January about you operating on one, four, six, five, two, simplex. We'll probably do another one of those because that's a popular topic. Springtime is almost here. And if you've been itching to redo every room in your home, Bob's discount furniture can help. When you shop at Bob's, you get wow. We're the everyday low prices on fabulous furniture for every room. So quick, quick history here. So last last year sometime, 2025, there was this gentleman, and I should have pulled this up beforehand. Let me see if I can go find this. This guy who's a ham-radio operator, he's also a GMRS user.
He had written a proposal to the FCC to reallocate some of the low-band VHF frequencies to GMRS for purposes of income and longer range communications. And if you don't know what low-band is, typically that's kind of a slaying term, but it isn't both at the same time. Generally, when you hear low-band in ham-radio speak, it means low-band VHF, or sometimes it's called low-band VHF. It's basically 30 to 50 or maybe 30 to 70 megahertz, depending on who you ask and who defines it. So it's the lowest end of the VHF band. And I'm pretty max having trouble, I guess. VHF goes from 30 to 300 megahertz, and it's the lower end of that spectrum. So there's a lot, there used to be a lot of baby monitors, and the cordless telephones that you had in your house used to be on some of the earlier ones were on low-band. The later ones were on 900 megahertz.
But stuff like that used to be used for low-band VHF, 46, 47, 49 megahertz somewhere in that range. And just recently, the newest story that came out about that was that, and I've got links for all this, and it's in the video that I shared about a week and a half ago. The FCC basically unallocated those frequencies between like 47. See ya, Freddie, later. You'll see seven issues. Yeah, we'll let Iso take his place. How's that? Iso, yeah, he's right there. See, there he is. Iso. Iso. Iso. Iso. Iso. Yeah, that guy. So the video though. Right. So the FCC unallocated, some of the low-band 46 to 49 megahertz frequencies from being used for, I think it's part 15, cordless telephone, they took it away because nobody
used it anymore anyway. So now those frequencies are open and free for someone to claim and grab and do something with, and so they submitted a new request proposal to the FCC, that same guy, and that said, hey, these frequencies are free and clear now. Let's add them to GMRS. So that's where, and I don't, as far as I know, the FCC hasn't actually responded to that, or if they have, then it wasn't in the article I found. So I don't know, but the gentleman. The proposal opened to the public to comment on? I don't think you can, I mean, so you can go read it, of course. It's not a close proposal or anything like that. I don't know that it's possible to comment on it, really. I'm going to pull it up right now. I should have pulled this up before I forgot, but here, right? Or, Frank, are you thinking like public comments in the form of the FCC?
Yeah, usually, the FCC will have a open comment for proposals. Maybe they haven't picked it up to be openly conceived yet. I think it's too early. I think it's too early in the process, because it hasn't even gone to the rulemaking yet. Right now, it's just speculation, maybe. It's, well, yeah. Okay. So Michael Trey, that's the gentleman's conversation. Michael Trey host is the gentleman's name who submitted this original proposal. And he's got a, he's got it, like I said, he's him radio license and a GMS license. And he's like, look, there's basically, in a nutshell, he said, there's these low-band frequencies that nobody uses anymore. Let's add them to GMS for purposes of longer distance communication and emergency communications for MCOM. And I overall, I think I'm pretty okay with most of that, but I have some comments on that. And I shared most of that in the video,
but I got a lot of really good comments on that video. And that's why I wanted to do this video tonight. So how many of you have never heard of, well, first of all, how many of you have never heard of this before? Before we get there, I want to ask one other point. Since it said longer range communications, are they allowing them to have more power also on these big levels? That has, well, that's, that's three steps ahead of where I was trying to start, Frank. Okay. Okay. Never mind. Never mind. But the answer to that is there's, there's not, I don't think there's anything specifically about power in the proposal. So right now power is limited to 50 watts for GMRS. And you can have, you might be able to have 100 watt repeater. I'm not sure about that. But 50 watts in your mobile radio, you know, five, six watts of your handheld like normal one band, 462 to 467 megahertz UHF. Most people know that. So I don't know that there's anything specifically about power in there. But how many of you in the zoom have never
heard of this before? If you don't keep up with GMRS or whatnot, does anybody never heard of this? I heard of it from you, I believe, might have been, might have been somewhere else also, but if it wasn't for you, it went for me. So do all of you have a GMRS license? Yes. How long are those good for? 10 years. Oh, yeah, yes to go. Okay. So you use it regularly. Hey, no, well can use it too because the GMRS license covers your family. Right. So yeah, yeah, well, you know, just put one in her car, just install it in her car when she's out of town one weekend. Yeah, just tell her if you need me, call me. Right. Exactly. Yeah. So or do what I do with the mesh device I got from C Studios. Just put it on her back pack. She'll never. You've low jacked her without her knowing Frank. That's a great way to start a relationship, by the way. I mean, I wouldn't be the first time it's been that. But okay, so, so a couple of you
have never heard of this and you guys are most, I think all of your GMRS license. So, um, but yeah, so some of the, some of the, as you know, as you should know, as everyone should know, the GMRS spectrum is 462 to 467. It's basically all the frequencies are shared by the FRS free band also. Now, at the FRS, I think the limit, I think the limit is two watts on some of the channels and like a half watt on some of the other channels. Yeah. And there's no repeaters allowed on FRS and to in order to keep it legal. I don't want a bunch of comments about, oh, well, we do this and we do that. Well, I know, I know you do and more power to you. Thank you, uh, thank you Glenn for the super chat, buddy. Appreciate that. You're amazing. Yeah. There was another one earlier in there. I clicked on it, but I didn't, I didn't comment on it. That was from Mike. Thank you for the super chat earlier, Mike. So, um, oh, there's one I totally missed. Jacob, thank
you for the super chat, buddy. Thanks for that. Um, so the, uh, where was I going with? Oh, FRS. So FRS shares frequencies with GMRS. Uh, you can't, you're not supposed to use repeaters with FRS. The power is a lot lower. And in order to keep it very legal, um, your FRS radios that you buy at Bass Pro Shops or Walmart or something, um, have an antenna on them that is not removable. Right. And that's the same with GMRS. GMRS antennas are not supposed to be removable. No, that's not true. GMRS, you can totally remove antennas. Yeah. That's one of the things that you can do. So, and see, and I've got that comment before Dave. So I don't know where that comes from, that people think that, but it's not true because if that was true, you wouldn't be able to run a mobile radio in your car. Yeah, because guess your mobile radio is on top of it. I'm trying to separate it. I heard that from. Yeah. So the one difference with with GMRS and FRS, besides the power of everything, is that FRS, the radio is licensed, not the individual. Correct. So,
so that license goes with the manufacturer. It, it, it gets licensed as part of its thing. And then that's what's sold in the bubble bubble packs. And we, we use those a lot in the, in the operating community, because they're, they're easy to hand out. If, if, right, you're, you're somewhere, right? They're licensed by rule is what that's called, just like CB is licensed by rule. Um, the rate, you said the radio is licensed, Tim, which you're correct, but a GMRS radio is also licensed because a GMRS is supposed to be part 95. Right. According to FCC spec. Plan. So right. Yeah. And I find it, I find that we're not going to talk, I don't want to dive deep into this time. I find it very hard because to date, you guys correct me if I'm wrong. I'm pretty sure I'm right about this. Okay. All of your part 95 certified radios that are FCC accepted are made in China. And it's technically not legal to use a part 90 motorola or high terror or tape radio or Harris radio, which my hair is inside on GMRS because they're not part 95
they're part 90. And there's so much better of a radio than any part 95 garbage coming out of China. So I find that a little bit odd that the really kick ass commercial grade motor roller radios are not allowed because they're technically not part 90 type extent. Well, you know, I remember through the programming allows it. The programming. Right. Yeah. Yeah. You know, you're not getting a bar. Yeah. Right. Well, they blocked the programming. Yeah. Well, but that's what part 90 is. Part 90 is full open transmit from 136 to 174 on VHF and usually like 400 to either 480 or 520 depending on which radio you get. And you know, of course, 462 and 440 and ham radio and 462 are right there in the middle of all that. And we use motor rollers on ham radio all the time and they're totally fine. It's completely nothing wrong with that at all. Part 90 radios are totally acceptable on ham radio because we have an experimenter's license. There's no such things a part 97 certified radio. But there is such
things a part 95 in those motor rolls are not it. And I'm just I've always thought that that was strange. So because I'm like, guys, this is such a better spectral purity than any that stuff coming out of China. But okay. All right. All right. We'll move on for that. We're not talking about that tonight. So there's a lot of, yeah, W W M 9 H. There's a lot of older kinwoods that are part 95. There's a lot of a linko used to make a part. Oh, you said part 95. I'm sorry. I misread that. Okay. Uh, I've never seen a kinwood part 95 radio. You could be correct. I'm not saying you're wrong. I've never seen one. But, uh, and I think way back in the day motor roll amount I've made a GMRS radio if I'm not mistaken. Uh, they, they do make FRS radio as you can get it motor roll FRS radio is all day long. But, um, but I'm not, I'm not seeing a kinwood part 95. If somebody has a link to that, that would be, that would be cool. So Harris radios are military. Some of Mars. Some of them are not, uh, Harris has some, uh, well, they do have service set. Yeah, seven,
eight hundred. I've, I've got an XG 100. I wish it would have run it out here. That Shane K6 ATX helped me, uh, APX helped me program. And we were using those at hamcation last month. So yeah, Harris does, they're in the public's service in first responder spectrum as well. Now, oh, yeah. They were big military contracts, but they do a lot of public service. All right. Yeah. So good radios. Really, really good radios on that. And the price on the used Harris is a lot better than the price on and use more roll every day. So gosh, but, um, but yeah, so, so there's, so the proposal is, so where was I going with that? Um, so you've got a part 95 radio and you've got GMRS and it's 50 watt power maximum. And again, it might be different for repeaters, but I don't really know. Um, the uh, those of you who may not know about radio, not you guys in the zoom chat, obviously, but if you're listening to the sound of my voice right now, um, there's a term we have that says height is might. If you get an antenna up a hundred fifty two hundred feet in the air with a 50 watt
repeater, you're going to do a whole lot better than a ground station with a hundred watts. Uh, when it comes to VHF, UHF anyway, and especially UHF, which is, which is where GMRS is right now. So, um, so power is not always the answer to farther distance, but the argument being made now, Kimwood commercial is part 95 TK 380 390 hold on, which scroll in chat. Uh, NX 300s are not part 95 Frank NX 300s are part 90. Uh, I owned an NX 50 800 for a while. The TK series radios, I had one of those that was a, uh, the 900 megahertz, a TK 890 or 990, which I had a TK 480. It was, it was yes, there was a whole series of them. Yeah, there was a whole series. I didn't think those were 90. Uh, so Frank, you're saying commercial is part 95. I would argue that and say commercial is actually part 90 part 95 is CB slash GMRS. So it depends on what you're defining as commercial.
So I don't know that I'm not going to say you're wrong, but uh, yeah, if you're, you see the website is, Jason, the SCC website gives a great breakdown of what it does. If anyone wants to do the deep dies. Right. Yeah. I've, I've read that before. I don't have it up in front of me right now, but yes, I have read that before. So, uh, anyway, so now, now what they're proposing is they, they want to take, they want to take these and he gave the example in his, uh, original, his original proposal from last year. He gave the example of Hurricane Helene. He was like, there's a lot of people who didn't have communications because they didn't, they didn't have a ham radio license. They had GMRS and UHF would only work to a certain distance to which I would argue. I'm like, you know, Mcom was not one of the original ideas behind GMRS. Um, could it be useful? Sure it could. Sure it could be useful. And do we want to get long range with it? Maybe, but generally speaking, GMRS, the reason was put in the UHF spectrum was because it was more for like talking to people
in your city, your county, or on a care of angle and on the road, if you're on an overlanding crew or something like that. That's what it was originally designed for. But now they're talking about wanting to do these low band things so they can cross state lines and they can, uh, have just, you know, longer distance. And I wonder, and here's my big, and I said this is my video. Here's my biggest question. I'm like, do you realize? Springtime is almost here. And if you've been itching to redo every room in your home, Bob's discount furniture can help. When you shop at Bob's, you get wow. We're the everyday low prices on fabulous furniture for every room. The size of antenna you would need for a 49 megahertz radio. Because you're talking about these little stubby antennas that is on your Jeep for you for you GMRS guys. It worked great on 462 megahertz. They work wonderfully. Not if you mount them off on an aluminum plate where they're sticking that far off the side and and there's a nothing but road and concrete underneath you and you wonder why you can't get out. There's a reason for that. Put it over the top of your freaking hood with this metal underneath it. But leaving that aside for the moment, okay. You're not going to be able to use an antenna that size on 49 megahertz. Jason, I was going to say and Izo and Freddie Mac and myself and maybe Jeff,
we grew up with 49 megahertz walkie talkies. We had more things. We were we can get the telescoping antenna that was like six feet tall. Eight years old GI Joe and through the neighborhood with a 49 megahertz. We can handle this. You're like, you're I mean, you think of the dirty dozen movie or movies of that genre and you're like, yeah, hold on a sigh. Hold on. Let me. Oh, there it is. Extended all the way and then you you got this headset that's twice twice the size of a brick. You know, and the antenna stick at 12 feet off of it. And the enemies look as like, hey, there's a guy on the radar. So, uh, but yeah, I mean, I wonder if they I mean, I'm sure that the the guy that Mr. Trehus who's proposing this, I'm sure that he's a ham operator. I'm sure he gets it. But some of the GMRS guys coming by like, yeah, let's do that. We need longer range. I'm like, well, get a ham license down. So cry out loud. So thinking about it more from that mobile perspective, you know,
we we go out to parks every day of the week and we set up field antennas for for HF. And there is a lot of there's a lot. There's a lot of people that don't want to get into amateur radio because of all the technical stuff. They want to be users or operators of it. And maybe this is that compromise of getting them into an HF-like band that's going into allow more than just your your basic UHF communications. You see a lot of times where they talk about that. And they they get upset about it. But they they have a very limited scope of what we actually have of frequencies and different technologies that we can do. So maybe maybe that is the happy compromise in giving them more space, keeping it in a channelized format. But you know, not
not having to to go in and do all the technical stuff that we have to do is to get life and spare amateur radio. Yeah. And that's been talked about a bit. I do want to comment on Tim's DMR comment here real quick. He saw have you seen the cavities used for repeaters the cans for repeaters for low band VHF. And I mentioned that in in my video also. Yeah. Exactly. Yeah. There's ridiculous size duplexers and cavities for those low band frequencies if you're going to put up a repeater. The other comment I get sometimes is that Tim went I lost my train. I thought with there's a well one cut. No, no, I wouldn't your fault. I was I was going to comment on something you said. One comment on that is oh, you were talking about the technical aspect of it. So some people have said and I don't I don't I don't I don't agree with this at all. But they're saying, hey, we should either add GMRS to ham radio. So in other words, you get one license or we should like take the technician away from ham radio, give it to GMRS and have a GMRS technician. And then
you get your ham license. You have general in. And I'm like the problem with that. So we need to we need to and the general consensus is that people are trying to get out of taking the test or at least the comments I've seen that's kind of what they're alluding to. It's like, oh, we need to add this and this and this and this and this to GMRS users. And I'm like the problem with that is that you learn the purpose of the test is to learn information about how to operate a radio and how to put stuff together. Okay. GMRS users, they don't know that you might be so you got you guys may not be surprised. But you might be surprised about the number of people I talk to it overland shows that don't know that number one, they don't know what their call sign is. They say, yeah, I'm a GMRS license. They don't know what their call sign is and they don't know they're supposed to ID every 15 minutes when they're using the radio. They're like, oh, no, that's a ham radio. You got as I was like you do to go reach your 16 page contract that you signed and didn't read when you got your when you paid for a GMRS license, it's in there. It tells you you have to ID every 15 minutes. And yeah, so with this with this frequencies, they give them, would they
try to channelize them like they do have on the other frequencies? I mean, I assume that that's probably what'll happen. I don't know that I don't know Frank. I mean, I don't think they've gotten that far. I think that's what they want to do. Well, I take that back. I take that back. There are five specific channels that are being proposed. The original one, the original proposal was just for low band. But they're in the last article I read, there were five channels that were being proposed. Let me see if I can pull that up real quick. So Dave says, I found I got your message your day. I found the reference to fixed antennas. It only applies to radios that are capable of digital data transmission. Yeah, like the BTEC UV Pro and the talk about the Garmin talk about. Yeah, it can send quasi APRS information. Yeah, those and it's specific to digital data transmission. Section four of that says the antenna must be a non removable integral part of the GMRS unit.
Well, that's okay. That's why the BTEC Pro came with the set screw on the antenna. Yeah. Well, there's a, yes, there's a GMRS Pro. The UV Pro is the GMRS Pro. Yeah, I know what you're talking about. Yeah, you're right. It had a set screw on the antenna. That's right, because it would do whatever that, it's a, they call it MRS or whatever it's called. Whatever it's called. Yeah, it's, yeah, it's, it's APRS, but not for a commercial. I knew I saw it somewhere. I just couldn't enroll. Yeah, yeah. No, you're right. You're right. So let me see if I can find those free. That's a good question. It's in the news article, Jason, that from the communications thing. Is it the national communications magazine? Yes, it's in that article. I've been, I've been following it there in a few other places. The Natcom Mag article. Natcom. Hey, Jason, okay. Yeah, couple, while you're research, couple things are going to go ahead. Go ahead. Go ahead. So those of us who've been involved in public safety at various levels, maybe they have the opportunity
of playing with a low-band radio. Believe it or not, it's, you know, it's, it's, it's, it's fine. It's fun. It's all going to do the same thing, whether you're a hammer, whether you're a firefighter, yes, your application is going to be a little bit different. There's some obviously safety things about, but how the radio is going to work is it's not going to really change low-band. We all know we were laughing before about the low-band portables. Tim was absolutely right. That's why, and I know in the fire service, they wanted to go to a different band for a variety of reasons. But a lot of us kept mobile radios part of our infrastructure and backups. And we, and we all basically knew 100 watt mobile radio with a, you know, a 54, a 54 inch stainless steel whip, you know, animal, whatever, ball amount. It doesn't make a difference. And the most important thing is based upon the terrain that you're dealing with, it's going to, it's going to give you communications in some areas. And if you move the truck a few feet, it'll, you know, where you didn't have communications, now you will. I find it interesting for the, for this proposal, because it opens up a
lot of things. I personally, I think it would be fun to have. Yeah. Okay, listen, we're all radio geeks here. Anything that we can play with radio is fun, right? Whether it's voice or data or whatever. Who cares? I don't know if the, we're number one, we're at a FCC in about another year, a year from now. And this will probably be a great, another great show for you. Where are they going to be? Because the FCC likes to make money. Their job is to make money now on spectrum. So I don't know if there is money to be made. Or if this is one where they just say, well, we'll, we'll just give this back. But this will be a good gesture. I don't know. So that's, so that's, that's number one. Number two, I've heard a little bit from other groups that, well, I want to be able to, then I want to be able to take the low ban and do it for linking for long range linking. Right. Is that going to be a low, we don't know. So we're not even going to get into the skepticism, but it's the statements that are being made of what they're trying to justify why they want it along with other topics. The other thing would be is, I think it would be fun. And again,
the fun word comes in. If they gave us some spectrum, and if it was just point to point, I don't know about the repeaterized stuff. It gets into a whole different, because if you, if anyone out there, and I am a repeater owner, I have a couple of repeaters, it's like having children. It's a lot of time, money, engineering, and it's a lot of things. And just getting into the cans, the duplexers of low ban is much different, you know, tuning them, transporting them, retune them when you get to the site, playing the games, temperature, and versions. It's a whole, and some guys are not going to want to go to all that. They're just going to, like Tim said, plug and play and go, where I think this would be a fun thing. Now, I'm not an overlay under, and you guys can tell me this about the overlaying groups, baby. Would it be fun to be able to operate, point to point with a 150 to 100 watt radio across the overlaying terrain that you guys use? I think that might be a yes. Tommy John. Comfort. Perfected. It's not really that much, where I think 100 watts would fill in a lot of areas. I talked because of the experience we use here in the public safety world of using point-to-point on UHF versus the low ban. Low ban is incredible. It is absolutely incredible. In my town, that's 26,000 square miles, both at the seat at about ground zero at the shore than going up into elevation. A 100 watt low ban radio can talk to another 100 watt mobile across town like how we're talking now. You can't do that on UHF Simplex. You just can't do it for a variety of reasons. So does this open up the fun part of it? I think it does.
I think the surplus possibly available that's still left on low ban stuff. But I said that with a caveat because the manufacturers about 10 years ago were walking away from low ban. There were Yezu at the time was the only one making a low ban radio. I don't think they do in the public safety market anymore. But I know Motorola was walking away from it because, again, who's their biggest buyers? The public safety world. And the business world. So this is a very interesting. I think it's a fun time. I can't wait to see. And I'm just going to sit here. I'm going to be like the guy eating popcorn. I'm just going to sit and wait. And whatever happens, but I think it's a fun time. And it offers a lot of potential opportunities in the hobbyist world as being a hobby. I think that, see, and that's that goes into some of the comments I've got done. The answer to your question is yes, it would be a fun thing to make contacts that way. And some of the comments I saw even said, hey, let's give low ban, let's give 46 to 54 megahertz
to Hams and not give it to GMRS. I think it would be fun. The problem is that GMRS guys don't care. There's like, and they've said so in the comments, they're like, we don't really care. We just want to talk to sometimes, sometimes I get comments that say, we don't get our ham license because we don't want to talk to other hands. We want to talk to our group of people and nobody else is licensed. I'm like, why don't you guys as a group go get licensed then? So, and it's just easier to get on GMRS because people go buy the radio and they just get on whether they have a license or not. And a lot of, one guy said to me in an overland show one time, he's like, hey, I went and bought this radio. And that shouldn't mean I get to use it because if I wasn't allowed to buy it, then that'd be different. But I don't need a license. I'm like, well, why don't you go down to the Ford dealership and buy yourself a car without a driver's license and see if you can drive it off the lot. It doesn't matter. Go fishing. Oh, you own 50 acres of land. Awesome. How many deer can you shoot on your own land? I guess as many as you want, right? Because you don't need a hunting license to hunt in your land. I wish that were true, but it's not. So you need a license to do everything. So it's a flawed logic to say that.
Also, on that part, Jason there, are they going to be able to know how the band affect what usage and what time of the day they might be able to get out on that? That's a good question too. Are they just going to buy it and be frustrated because they can't talk to their friend that is in two states away? I think if it ever, the most basic statement I'll make about this is I think if it ever passes, people will buy into it immediately. They'll use it. They'll realize how different and difficult it is and they'll drop it. And six months, 12 months later, you won't have anybody using it because they're like, oh, it's too hard and tennis too big. Cavities are too large. Here's the frequencies you were asking about, Frank. There's these 10 frequencies here. Input on the 49.670 up to 46. I'm sorry, 46.670 up to 46.970 and the output mobile is 49.830 to 49.990. So it's right below the six meter band.
Yeah, so they're giving us 10, they're the proposal is going to give on 10 different channels. So they're not going to have a VFO now. But that's to be expected out of the GMRS class. Jason, to your point, can you imagine the potential marketing that could be that that could unfold? I mean, we see it, we see that in our hobby. This is the best radio. This is the best antenna where again, we all know there's a lot of things happening behind the scenes of that that could allow it to happen. I mean, I'm sure that China, I'm sure that China would suddenly start making 49 megahertz radios. I'm sure. Oh, you know, right now, there's a bunch of people. And like, where's our six meter radios? I was a six meter tomorrow morning. There is a meeting somewhere somewhere. Yeah, what's the, what's the knockoff? Wushan's got one and somebody else's TYT has got a knockoff of the quad band, Yezu radio. Yeah, the Yezu radio. And I honestly think you could probably, if they, if they opened up that, the, the low band, they could, they could
probably take that and modify it in software to, to make that available. I would think so. And yeah, and, and it goes from like, yeah, goes from like 45 to 55 megahertz or something like that. But I tell you, once again, this is going to go back to the technical, right? GMRS is plug and play. It is, it's your easy bug. Agreed. Agreed. There's no doubts. There's no qualms on that. It's your easy button. And when they, when, when you're going to have to start working to, to, to get that Frank mentioned it, you know, am I going to buy this thing? And now I've said, I can't talk to the person two states away. And it's not so much that it's there. It's understanding the propagation, it's understanding the equipment and being able to do that. And that's where our licenses come in a little bit. Springtime is almost here. And if you've been itching to redo every room in your home, Bob's discount furniture can help. When you shop at Bob's, you get wow, where the everyday low prices on fabulous furniture for every room, everything from stylish mid-century dining sets and top-rated bubble-pedic mattresses with the best warranties in the business to

The best time for an underwear refreshes now. Tommy John, underwear is designed for a perfect fit that stays put all day. There's zero shape thanks to four times more stretch than competing brands. And their innovative horizontal quick draw fly is a game-changer. With over 30 million pairs sold, there are thousands of men out there more comfortable than you. Don't settle for less. Go to TommyJohn.com today for 25% off your first order with Code Comfort. That's TommyJohn.com Code Comfort. Tommy John. Comfort. Perfected. Well, because it's taught to the new technician, how the bands work, how how the different layers interact and it sets those expectations of oh, I'm not going to be able to do this today because the sun's doing X and I can go ahead and look at what the current sun conditions are and band conditions are and the muff levels and all that.
So, I know I can make that contact or not. And that's the and that's the problem I have every time someone comes out of the channel and mentioned something about either adding two meters and 440 for a ham radio to like basically there's people have said it in different ways, but they're basically wanting to say we should either incorporate GMRS into the technician license and make them both free so you don't have to take a test or we should you know, we should either take that technician away from ham and give those frequencies to GMRS or incorporate the 462 into a ham license. Some people have said I want to use the same call sign on all the bands and I'm like, you know, I don't think I'd have too much of a problem with that. If you got a ham license first and then got your GMRS license, I don't think I'd have a huge problem with being able to use your ham radio license on GMRS frequency. That's an interesting concept. That's interesting. Yeah, this is all from the comments section. But I mean, but but the problem with that is say, well,
we need to give there's people has said we need to give APRS and FTA and this and this and this and this to GMRS users. And I'm like, no, because you do I don't know how to use it. And it's not that you can't learn. It's that you're not it's that your license is a piece of paper you sign that you don't even read because you don't know to give out your call sign. Okay. So the purpose of a ham radio, I'm not trying to be I'm not trying to be rude when I say that. I'm just this is a point of fact. Okay. It's the purpose of taking a test for ham radio is to learn stuff that you know. So you understand that you know what? If I get on the 160 meters 11 a.m. in the morning, I'm probably not going to make many contacts. Okay. Or if I try 10 meters with an antenna that's the size of a 70 centimeter antenna, I'm probably not going to make many contacts. You know, that kind of thing. So it's yeah, GMRS is plug and play ham radio. We actually have to know some stuff. And and I and like I think everyone in zoom would agree with me when I say with this, we we invite everyone to come and learn the stuff that we've learned and get on the airs with us. We're
not trying to be exclusive or elitist or anything like that. But there is a certain level of learning that some people just don't want to do. And that's okay. That's all right. But they don't need to be given extra privileges or stuff that they refused that they could do if they wanted to and they choose not to. I don't think there's a level of learning. I think it's just a willingness to learn has to be there. Well, that's what I mean. That's what I mean. I want to get in and do this. Right. Yeah. Plug. Plug. Because even the manufacturers motor roll all those guys that that are making these GMRS radios, it's plug and play kit, right? There's no concern for standing wave or or anything like that. It's here you go. Plug it in. And Jason, to your point earlier, I don't know if it was you or Tim, but you're talking about like the GMRS repeater. I think it's Midland has that 15 watt repeater. Yeah. Again, it was being marketed. A lot of people bought into that marketing. I think we as Hams already kind of sat back and laughed at. Uh oh, there's going to be a lot of people who are going to be disappointed when it doesn't do what they want it to do. And again,
it could be because because maybe as Hams, we've experienced the learning about the propagation, the terrain, what what band we're on. They are we're using a resident antenna at the power level. You know, all those things you put it in and and I felt bad for a couple people who went out, spent the money and now it's just sitting in a garage on the shelf because it didn't do what they wanted to do. Right. When I kind of told I kind of wanted to say, don't I would do a little bit more research because what are you using it for? You know, if you're going to go bring it out to like Fridges, Jason, you have a hunting lease. You know the you know the the terrain of it. How, you know, the how many square miles it might be, you know, is it hilly? Is it not hilly? Again, there's a lot of things you can determine whether or in between you and the guy. Right. Yeah. Can you is there a high point that you could stick that repeater up? And maybe it would work for you and then guess what? And you're going to you're going to talk nothing but good about it. Right. So I saw so many people buy into things without doing their homework to like two
minutes. I mean, can you guys spend a little time in and the plug-in players get very disappointed. They get very disappointed fast. They just want it to work. Yes. They just want it to work, which okay, I get that. But I used to get I used to get questions all the time back when I sold radios on my website. People would say, so how far will this go? Yeah. And I'm like, well, technically you can talk to the space station with it. So, you know, what's that? The 26 miles up, something like that. It was the sea beers on this. I would love to hear to see beers because they're yeah, they're stuck. They're stuck in what 27 to 27 26 27 megahertz. Yeah, 26, you know, for a very small spectrum. And yes, they were given FM, but I don't I haven't heard any huge leap to a bunch of people using FM. There was some there was some comment about that in the in the chat earlier. Was there? Yeah, and I don't think I don't think very many people and there's the braps just mentioned here. He does over landing and picked up his GMR wrist radio for that.

mobile in the truck, he's maybe turned it on three times. Oh, yeah. Yeah. They've turned it on more. Leave the old band behind. You need to fix that and monitor 6.52 when you're out of landing. Come on. Give your calls on out. So, where's James? That's his next feature. Leave no dead behind. Leave no pan. I just want to see you guys running around with a five and a half foot whip on their HDs. I know. Yeah. I mean, I'm going to get a 100. I'm going to get a CB 102 inch whip and put it on the truck and bend it over like I'm in mash. I tied it to my front bumper. And that's going to be my low band antenna. And I want to do that. I would do that. You know, people view like, well, are you going to put that on a Jeep? Okay. Come on. Let's go, buddy. Yeah. 250 miles. Thank you, Rob. So, one of the things actually, what started for me, the Gray Man, pote channel was I was doing over landing. And I was looking for content to introduce. And you know, those guys, because everybody's all GMRS, I'm like, how can we use
amateur radio a little bit more in the over landing community? Not so much for people that are wheeling out on the East Coast, but thinking about people that are out on BLM land and there was no infrastructure out there. How do you think that this is Jason. You were right out out there at Joshua Tree, right? And so how can you use that? That's so much in the vehicle. But if you're overnight, if you are needing an emergency, and there was, there was a couple of people right about that same time, which kind of prompted this was, was there was a couple of instances where people had died, where they got stranded and had no way of communicating. And then also, if you guys remember, there was a ham radio operator that had gotten stranded in death vality, and was able to use his radio to reach out to somebody on the East Coast, who was then able to take in relay their position back to the park rangers to get them to get them help.
I don't remember that one specifically. The next year, but that's happened a few times actually. I've run a cost several stories like that. The one that sticks in my mind was the Jeep guy that got out and there's a big band national park is in Texas in this southwestern part of Texas. There is a, and Rob would be able to tell me what the grid square number is. There's a grid square down there, maybe a couple of them that are sought after because there's fricking nothing down there. Why heard that's a great APRS coverage area. It is. Yeah, APRI works wonderfully well down there. The signals go everywhere except to where you want them to go. So no, but there was a couple of guys down there doing satellite comms and they got stuck in the mud. And I did a video about this like two years ago. And they couldn't get out of the mud and they couldn't, there's no cell signal. This was before Starlink, or at least they didn't have it at the time. They didn't have a Starlink, whether it existed at the time or not. And they used their satellite rig to call out on the satellite saying, hey, Mayday, we're stuck. We're in this grid square. Here's our GPS coordinates and someone worked
them on the satellite and called the park rangers and said, these guys are out here and they're stuck. Can you go get them? And they weren't in any danger. But had they been stuck there for like a whole you know weekend or something or several days, you know, they would have run out of water and food and whatnot and that kind of thing. So you know, it worked out well, but the only way they had to communicate was satellite was VHF UHF satellite radios and they bounced their signal off the satellite, worked the satellite repeer. So I'm like, that was a that was a cool story to I mean they were fine. Yeah, I think like six hours later, the park ranger found them pulled them out. But but yeah, yeah, there's no cell signal out there. They didn't have a I don't know if they had any HF with them or not. But but you can always get on the air with HF and you say, well, what good is someone in two states away going to do? Well, they had they got a cell phone in that place in two states away. So you get on H. It's right. You may not have a couple 911 and then they get routed properly because all those dispatched centers are interconnected. Well, then they cut well, yeah,
that or they just call the park rangers where you are. If you're in a national park, which has no cell coverage, we're talking about here, right? If you're in BLM land, you're in the middle of nowhere, then hopefully you know where you are. I mean, a good a good explorer tracker through the wilderness would know where they are, whether you have a GPS radio or a Garmin or use the what three words app. That'd be a really good way to do where you were. Use that all the time at work. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Our plastic note with that app. That's a good idea. That's a good idea. Yeah. Okay. So, but it's just a couple examples what you could do. We put a series of plastic nose around the county that are fixed stations and name them from the word three words app. So we'll know right where they're at or anything. That's a really good idea. I like that. Yeah. I like that too. I'm like, okay, I might suggest that to the guys. Oh, you're like, you got some comments. Yes. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. Here's the funny part. Mine here in Henry. It is called soap lined jelly.
Nobody else has a clue. Yeah. Yeah. What the heck is he thinking? What I'm thinking? Yeah. Yeah. What three words, Vandice? Yeah. We need to we need to use that app born ham radio. I mean, like, I mean, that's a really cool app. But cigar tent. You know, you're going to find me in the cigar tent. That's it. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. If I can't spit out that third word, I'll get this too. It's going to be, I think it's going to be interesting. I getting getting back to I think it's going to be interesting. I guess if you agree on a lot of on a lot of what's the word I'm looking for? Condu, it's coming into it. How does the FCC feel about this? How are manufacturers just kind of just kind of salivating saying, hey, we're going to have an opportunity to be selling a whole lot of radios and tannas and, you know, yeah, and marketing or, you know, you know, as well as, but I think in the end, I just wanted to be positive radio.
I that's how I would get it. I wish I had the crystal ball in the end, whether whether this was just going to be just for the primarily the the overlay on the group. Maybe there's other groups out there. Maybe they're citizen patrol groups. I don't know. Whatever it is, and long as it works, and I hope it works good. And, but, Lopey has funny, man. Lopey has a funny thing sometimes. It is. It is. Well, they say six six meters is the magic band. So sometimes it's there. Sometimes it's not. And that's right under it. It's right under it. Are they going to get? Are they going to figure that out in GMRS? I don't know. Maybe, maybe, but, you know, I, I, I really think they're going to be, they're going to think it's awesome for about three months, and they're going to be like, this doesn't really work that well. My neighbor's toaster fell off the counter again, because I've shot loaded. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I got to, I got to go inside and get something. So, I'm going to put it over to the zoom right there. And you got, you guys take it away, but go
ahead. I'll be right back. I'm going to go. It's not Frank is going to talk. So it's really good. Just point. Here's your opportunity to take it over. No, I'm just going to do. I'm going to I'm going to go. I'm going to take it. So, so one thing I've noticed in an Indianapolis, the, the React group, and they they used to monitor channel nine on the CB back back in the CB days. They're still active up in Indianapolis and we're marrying county and central Indiana, but I believe they're using GMRS now. Is there is their primary motor communication? So there's, they're still there doing, you know, what were those, where they run, one of those things, Marathon. Marathon. Many marathons and all kinds of bike events and stuff like that. They're there too. And in conjunction with, you know, the local ham clubs and stuff like that, which is what we've got here on GMRS. Yeah. Yeah. That's what we've got here in Medina counties. We've got a React team and then the ham radio club and we'll team up or alternate events.
Um, so yeah, they then they use GMRS. What's again, I think a great GMRS is a great for that because it doesn't require a lot of skill. Right. Hey, Bob, here you go. Here's the radio. Yeah. Push the talk. Let off on channel 20. Yes. Yeah. Very simple, right? You don't have to, to, to do that. So I, I actually, I see a lot of advantage in GMRS. I just don't know how adding these extra channels in the guy. I guess the question is, you know, we look at six meters from the HFF, uh, long distance perspective. What's ground wave look like on six meters? Yeah, I just, I just can't fathom it right off the top of my head. And if they introduced any proposal to do any of these mo, uh, frequencies and sideband? No, I think it's just adding frequencies to, to GMRS. It's going to be FM just all FM. I would think how know what they're really getting extra out of that. I mean, sitting study it, but
well, it's, it's a whole new infrastructure of radios and equipment, that's for sure. And this is my, I guess my personal opinion, but it's probably because there's, there's in our GMRS, large GMRS groups here in the San Antonio area. Yeah. Most of them are hands. Yeah. And I think it's hilarious. Yeah. Most of them are hands. So it's probably the guy who proposes is probably a ham. He is. He is a ham. Yeah. He is trying to get a little extra bandwidth for the GMRS guys. Because he can. Um, there's a lot in GMRS. And nothing against, I started with GMRS. I helped build the react team that we have here. Um, but yeah, trying to get that little bit extra for those guys. You know what, I sit and thinking about it because here in the last year, GMRS is really blown up. I built the three repeaters that it's in our county. And but the one here in here, it went down for a while and it took me a while, a little while to get
rebuilt. And by the time I did, I had to re-frequency it because two more free repeaters went in south of us in the neighboring county and they got my channel. But it's all right. It's all good. Spectrum left that I had to re-program and retune my. Do you guys have, okay, I don't, this is something else I don't want to get too deep into because it's not what we're talking about tonight. But do you guys have frequency coordinators up there, Freddie? We do for amateur radio. Oh, yeah. I mean, for GMRS though. But not for GMRS. No, it's kind of a free fall. Exactly. It's to go. And I don't like that. So that's how the North Georgia guys, spring times the perfect time to turn the page and refresh your home style. The only problem, it can be expensive. Yeah, and they're probably linking them over the internet. They are. They're linking them over a rogue all-star type connection. And, and someone commented on one time on one
of my videos and I'm like, you mean, I mean, you mean there's different counties? No, no, they got all the channels channel. What is it? 14,000 through 22. Where does the repeater channel start? 16 or something? Yeah, 16 through 22, I think. Yeah, something like that. They got them all, and one guy sent me a video and he has his GMRS radio in his hand and he's listed into a conversation on Channel 15 and he changes the knob to Channel 16. Same conversation. 17. Same conversation. Eight. And he goes, he goes through like six of them. He's like, the other two are out there too. I just can't receive him from my HT in the house. And I'm like, that is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Yeah, that's a bit too high. I agree. Why would you tie eight frequencies? You want to take Channel 22 and tie it together across every county or or metropolitan area in your state or across tri-state area? Cool. Do that. Yeah. Why would you tie all eight channels together? What kind of idiocy? So are they using those channels for the for the back, the back on my, if you, if you, if you, if you, if you, if you read through the comments, say,
this is in North Georgia, okay? So I don't know. So somebody out there, let me know. If you read through the comments section, it's because a group, a small group of guy, if you believe this, it's not what I'm saying. This is what I've read. A small group of guys just wanted to strong arm everybody and put up a system for their buddies. So that's who all uses it. They also charge you to use it. You have to pay like, you have to pay like, I don't remember what they say. $100 a year, $200 a year or something like that to use. I don't remember what the exact price is. And I'm like, dude, I would so get out there and just peel tone scan on my walks on radio and key up and start talking to me. We have to be like, no, I don't either. I mean, it's a GMR, I have a GMR license. I don't have to pay you to talk on on this. Houston's got the same thing. There's there's a cup. There's a group that tied up three or four of the channels, repeat your channels and it's paid a play in Houston. Really? No, I hadn't seen that. Okay. I've talked on GMR S in Houston before. I've never had anyone say anything, but I've never heard, but do they tie all those channels together? They did before the crackdown.
And there was a lot of that. I just don't get that. Why would you do that? Why would I tie all of the channels together? I had a two or three. And it's funny is the guys have, they got really good locations. They're 100 plus feet in the San Antonio area. Oh, yeah. They had three repeaters, three other channels all tied together so that you could have coverage throughout all of San Antonio. And I'm like, but you're at 100 feet. You're covering most of the city anyway. Right. Yeah. Well, and that, well, that's when you take, you take three or four repeater sites. You put a repeater at each site. Okay. And you put them all in the same, let's just say channel 22, the top channel, I put them on channel 18. It doesn't matter. Put them all in one channel, change a PL tone on each one so that you're not double keying up. Okay. And you tie them all in together. Cool. So you've got channel 22 coverage throughout your county or area or whatever. I don't, I wouldn't have a problem with that. But why are you tying eight freaking channels together? They'd probably know that if they were
licensed amateur radio. Well, they could have accomplished all that with a voter system. That's what I'm thinking. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I'm thinking of voting, I'm a cheaper voting system with this. But again, but that means money and engineering. It does. I mean, you're going to need somebody that knows what you and I know a guy in Arkansas that did it. And then the GMRS crackdown came along. So he showed him out down reprogrammed just for 70 centimeters because he's also a ham. And he's got to set them up and run it again. But you know, you could accomplish that in GMRS. I don't think you, I don't think it's against the rules to put in a voter system. It's putting you know, you know, we had a, we had a voter system, a couple of our DMR, the club in Denton had a voter system on their DMR repeater. I think they still have a voter system on their two meter analog repeater. I believe. And no, there's nothing wrong with that. Yeah. That's totally legal in ham radio to do that. And as far as I know, it's probably legal in GMRS to do that. I don't know that there's a rule against it. No, I don't think there is a rule. I don't think there's a rule against tying eight repeater channels together either. But I'm like, so you've got eight frequencies. You can talk on that you can use repeaters on your time. I'm all in together. So now you have one. You have one
channel because everything's tied together. You have one channel, one conversation. And that's and you, you've handicapped yourself because you are either a bully, quite frankly, or you're just for the, what was the word of the day? What's the Trump's word? Oh, retarded. You're just retarded. I mean, I don't really mean, I kind of mean that, but I don't, but I mean, it takes, it, it takes a severe, I think they're bullies myself. Yeah. And it sounds like there's a little bit of bully. I like we made in the process. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Um, I have a question here in the chat, Jason. And I think, um, we might want to elaborate a little bit more on what is a voter system? If you, if someone doesn't know what that is, Freddie, you're done. You guys can probably explain that better than I can. Go for it. The way I would explain it best is you've got to say, we've got a repeater that transmits, if it's a ham repeater, let's say 300 watts. So that transmitter is going to go a long way. So and that repeater has a controller that's got a, what we call a voter board.
And that voter board is connected to several different receivers that connect to remote receiver sites in a wider area. And when you, and when you key up and you're closest to one of those receiver sites, that voter system in an instant is going to figure out which best path is for you. And it's going to take that link repeater, that link radio straight to that repeater. And you're going to be talking to it and that repeater is going to be repeating out 300 watts. And you're going to be hearing the receive audio from that repeater, local to you, pretty good. It's a multi, it's a multi-site receiver. Exactly. Split of a second, it's measuring signal to noise. And it's going to choose the one that has less noise to better signal. And it's done enough, what? No middle of seconds as fast as you were. We used to have them in our cars. That was pretty cool. Oh, you had a voter receiver in
your car. Yeah, we all had in repeaters. And, oh, nice. Oh, yeah. That's the handhelds. Yeah. Actually, when you got out of the car, you flipped it and that, that handheld was now 100 watts or 50 watts, whatever. Oh, so you're talking like, like using it almost like a crossband repeater from a, yeah, okay, okay. That knowledge, California highway patrol system backbone is all still low band. The guys are using 900 megahertz portables, I believe. So they talk, they get out. The trooper gets out. He talks to the car, the car goes crosses over in a low band. Because the millions or billions of dollars, but the more importantly, it's working. So they said, why should we, why should we rip it out? Yeah, we had to have the voter, the voter system, the voter card in our cars, or you'd have five troll cars trying to transmit to all the walkies at one time and all the time that doesn't work. Probably mad at early days. Yeah. But yeah, so sorry, Frank, he's calling me out in the chat.
I'm wrong. Yes, Frank, and I'm sorry to have 700 megahertz portals. We're regardless. It's a great system and it works. So yeah, that, it works. But, uh, just like I said, this is going to be very interesting, Jason. I think so. Yeah. See how it unfold. I don't think it's going to, I mean, the gentleman, Mr. Trayhouse, who's proposing all this, I think he fully understands it. I have no doubts. He fully, he's a ham, he's a humorous guy. I think he fully understands it. And he'll probably get a lot of really good use out of it, him and his buddies. And I will, I will, I'll use it. I mean, that'd be cool. I think that'd be awesome. I've been looking at those, uh, what's that, um, um, what's that, uh, is it a, is it the old Kenwood 110 watt mobile rigs? They had a, they had a 690, a 790 and an 890, I think it was, the 690 was, was 50 megahertz. Well, they said it was low band. It also depended on the remote while the head, right? Yeah. If, but that was the low band one, they, it went from like 46 or 47 up to like 50 or 51, you
could mod it to go through the whole six meter handband. And then they had one for VHF and also, but those are 110 watt Kenwood radios that they were a beast and the size of your freaking keyboard. And like as heavy as, you know, a spare tire, but they were solid radios. Oh, man. And I'm like, can you imagine that on GMRS? And a bunch of us have a bunch of motor rolls is this anything to do? Yeah. They're, they're sitting in a box. And, and I bet just, there's a whole bunch of vendors before they go out to the tailgating section, tailgating. Let me tell you something, tailgating will get very interesting if this gets passed. You guys know that in a year ago, the tailgates section of every hand fest local or big will get huge with the old way. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Absolutely. Yeah. I got a remote head. Correct on that. You want that? Yeah. I got a couple of motor roll of maritrax sitting right over there. Who'd be interesting? Haven't they done like a trial basis on spectrum space before? Didn't they give them like a little experimental time for any? Not for GMRS that I'm aware of.
Well, I wouldn't just in spatial meeting. I don't, I mean, I'm sure that's been done in the past somewhere. Let's hope they do. Yeah. Yeah. You guys go to a lot of, remember who was using all this to besides public safety. The oil, the oil delivery guy a lot of a lot of these contractors and all of a sudden, next hell comes along and they say, listen, guys, you can get rid of this and you can key up, you know, it's a cell phone and a walkie talkie. It's very interesting how this has progressed over the last 40 years. And now boom, here we are in 2026 and Boba is coming back, you know, or potentially coming back, you know, I saw, I saw another article the other day that says nothing to do with anything that we're talking about. But speaking of that, I saw an article the other day that this town, I know, I can't remember where it was. I want to say Mississippi, but I think that's wrong. I don't think it's your state, Joe Brett. Maybe Tennessee. There's this little town that had invested in a motorola trunk system like 15 years ago. And now all the radios were starting to break down and they couldn't hear one
other. They couldn't do this and they couldn't find parts. And I'm like, dude, a bow thing would literally work better than what your system was working right now. You put too many bills and it's like the guys who don't want everybody to car with roll down power windows. It's like, that's just something else to break. You know, I'm like, yeah, I mean, yeah, we got a point there. So that's why we're going to jump in. That's why we're going to jump in the car through the door. Yeah, yeah. Duke's a hazard way. So, but yeah, I think, Jim, I think, I think low band would be fun. I would like to, I wouldn't mind them adding it to six meters, expand our six meter spectrum from where at 50 to 54 right now, expand it to like 46 to 54 and make it a shared band if you want to 70 centimeters 900 megahertz of both shared band for him radio. I'm a shared band. Let's start working again. Yeah, right. Yeah. And I don't know. And I was, I was doing some research and I found a couple of, I found a couple of Motorola's on eBay that would work for low band. And, uh, and I found one guy who had
modded one. I think they, I think they, the ones I found like went from like 37 to 48 or 46, something like that. And one guy had modded one door where it would go from like, um, what was it? To like 40 to 55. So it would cover the whole six meter band for him. I'm like, that's cool. And he, he's like, I did this. I did this. I did this. And he's, he's like, I've got a bunch of these. I do this to this one all the time. And he wanted like 230 bucks for it. I'm like, well, okay, maybe I'll, maybe I'll grab, I didn't grab one yet. But then I was reminded by somebody because I'm like, I want to see what kind of low band activity is in my area. Well, guess what? If you have a Kenwood D 74 D 75 or an icy 705, it'll scan those bands. It'll scan like 30 megahertz and up or something like that. Absolutely. So if you've got one, if you got a 705 hook up with, hook up an antenna, it doesn't even have to really be a six meter antenna. Just hook up an outside antenna and scan from like 40 to 50 megahertz one day and put a camera in front of it. You got to go. Yeah. I got, I got a lot of things.
And then it'll cover it all. It covers all the bands. All the, does it really tell? Well, according to date, according to date, according to date, but covers all the bands. Yeah. Okay. Me Clarence. Clarence. Yeah. If that's your way. But Jason, you're right. The 7300 and the 705. I did it for a day. Our, our county dispassion, which just recently pulled the plug because we were, we were, we were, we were simul casting our, our initial dispassion, our low band and UHF. So we cut the plug out to low band. But prior to that, my God, the icon oil is absolutely beautiful. Oh, sure. Yeah. And you know, across the house, I can hear it. It was absolutely. Yeah. Yeah. It just brought back memories of the, you know, earlier days. So Brian KF zero in YL says there are people asking to expand six meters. There's a thread on the QRZ forum about it. Mm hmm. Is that a threat or an opportunity? It all, I guess, depends on your perspective. Ah, yeah. A thread. He says a thread. What being, being then,
it's on QRZ is probably also a threat of some sort, you know, there's probably one in the comments. You know, yeah, yeah. But yeah, he says a thread on the QRZ forum. So I'm like, okay. Huh. Tell me, I am going to have to duck out here. Um, I'm tank radio on YouTube. Just go ahead and search that you'll find me and I tank radio and audio, any audio, podcast or app you got. Um, great discussion. Great hanging out. Springtime is almost here. And if you've been itching to redo every room in your home, Bob's discount furniture can help. You'll set later. People used a hundred watt spectra's on six meters for packet. That's a good idea. Oh wow. Imagine that. Boy, I had a I had a spectra for a while and my god, what a pain in the butt that thing was to probe. I don't like the older motor rollers that you literally cannot program from a computer running anything but DOS and you can't put and you couldn't and you can't put DOS
on a newer computer because literally the CPU is too fast for us. The processor's too fast and it won't write to the radio correctly. So you've got to have it like this old-ass computer. Let's run in DOS 3. Whatever the heck it is. It's got like a 60 megahole fine. The old radio fast. The old radio text will always have that one laptop. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I've got one around here somewhere. I haven't booted it up in probably five years. I've got one that I used to have I used to do that with and I'm like, why am I doing this? It's like because it's fine. They're cool radios. They are. But motor rollers got some cool radios that are newer than this also. And much. Yeah. And those spectra's damn those those 900 megahertz spectra's were noisy. Oh my god. They were noisy. Which is no filtering on it. There's a bunch of CDM 750s and 1250s sitting in boxes. I know it. I know it. At least you're in Connecticut. I know it. There's a lot. Yeah. My first six meter or six meter radio is one
of those motor rollers. Was it Maritrax? The 100 watt? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It was one old desktop computer that I kept around just to program some. Yeah. Let me tell you about the do you anybody remember the motor roller centaur X 9000? 110 watt mobile radio had a separated control head. I think I see. Yeah. The cable seen that. Freddie was the cable that big huge black cable. Yes. It's where a connector that went into the suitcase part of it. One mine was you had to program the suitcase part and then you had to turn right around a program the head separately. And yes, you needed a 286 computer to do it. But I've got a 386. So the some smart guy programmer created a front-end loader called Mo Slow. Mo Slow. Well, I love it. Well, the program was thinking it was a few things and it would slow the clock speed down. Did you not get every time you programmed it? Oh gosh. Did you not hit the turbo button and turn off the turbo? No, I didn't have a turbo button
because this computer was like I said earlier. There was older than I was. Yeah. That was one of the best radios I ever had though. They sounded great. They transferred great. It was huge pain in the butt to frickin program it. But you could put, I don't know. I want to say it, hell, like 356 channels or something. I don't know. Sounds right. Those were the. There used to be a was it is it called a micor or a micor with those generation or two before the centaur before. But that there was an HF radio called a motor roller. Was it a it was a it was a mid core mic or something but there was an HF radio that was like 30 to 30 megahertz continuous for the marine world. I think the marine guys were using that. I think yeah. Well, I think it was a military thing originally, but it might have been there's a marine there's an icon marine radio for that. I'm marine HF radio. But but those motor roles some of those motor roles are pretty cool. Well, someone more just break houses and some of them were created just to make you want to put a gun in your mouth. All right. Yeah. Or wait or wait in the back for a climate weather.
A mic or a micor frank says okay. So Ria is in the chat. Hey Ria, she says she's hearing three Y okay on seven dot oh nine oh three Y zero okay three Y zero yeah three Y zero okay. Go get a voice. Seven oh nine oh is that the F T four frequency? I think that's the F T four frequency. They're doing a fox and hound on FTA. Oh, they're doing okay. They're doing fox and hound FTA. Okay. Is that a bouvet? Yep. Yes. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. I read an article on it. We had a whole discussion about that on the ham radio kids table last night. There you go. Yeah. Mycom Mocom Mocom VIX says. Oh, yeah. They had a whole series. They also had they also had a hundred a hundred. They also had a thousand watt amplifier that would go with that radio at one point. It was like it was literally like a rack like a half rack cabinet. Like you roll it. It looked like a it looked like a frigate VHF for Peter for the sixties. It was like five feet tall, weighed like 800 pounds.
Did they have two reels going side to side? No. I know. Hold on. It's right. It was keep your shot warm at night. Yeah. Boy. T was goodness, but it was it was funny. But yeah, so I don't know. We'll see where this goes. Most of the I get a lot of comments saying this is never going to go anywhere. They're not going to do anything. This has been proposed the FCC. They're not going to they're not going to accept it. They're not going to do nothing. It's going to change. And sadly, I think that's probably the most likely thing is that nothing's going to happen. I would like to see it happen. I'd like to use some low band. Well, let me ask you this. If nothing happens for the GMRS group, right? Hold on. It's been sitting there for. Well, and like I said, the latest thing about the delete delete delete thing that they were doing with the FCC. The FCC's now released the spectrum from baby monitors and cordless phones because nobody was using it anyway. So they took that spectrum away and they said, okay, this is no longer designated for these things. So as far as I know, now some people have been in the chats and not
saying that they're public safety is still on those frequencies, some of those frequencies. But as far as I know, there's probably not much out there. So I think anything is there is it's going to be a legacy, right? Yes, maybe or multi-cast multi-somethings to die off when when I was living in when I was in high school, we were living in a little town up here called Flower Mound. And my dad was on he was a training officer for the fire department up there at the time. He later became assistant chief. This was right in the kind of like in the early days of the 800 megahertz trunking systems, not digital. It was all analog. But it was but they were on eight they had like, I don't know eight or 10 different frequencies on this 800 megahertz trunk system. And he had a list of the frequencies. So I programmed them all in my radio shak scanner. And I would just hit scan. And there was no logic to it. It would just scan these all these frequencies and no order at all. And it would pick up stuff here and there and you'd have pieces of conversations. But at the
same time, they would multi-cast all their stuff on 156 megahertz. Because we have that was so still still doing that. Yeah, and because they it was their backups because that was their system before the trunk system existed. And then you know, they kept it. They already had it for a long long time. So they kept it like it's our backup system. And so I would just listen to 156 megahertz all the time to hear what the fire department was doing. So it was easy. But yeah, I'm sure there's but I don't can't you know, you can go out. I've been wanting for a while. I've been wanting to go check on buying my own frequency. You can buy your own commercial frequency and use it. You can use an encryption on it. You can use data digital. You can use whatever you want to on it. And and I know a couple guys who have the room. I think Gaston's got his own frequency. That's allocated out there in Arizona somewhere where he lives. So I've been thinking about going to buy my own free. I wonder if you could buy a low-band frequency. You can apply for it. But I think you've got to meet requirements for the rule set. Yeah, did I follow? It would just I'm not sure if that's
under 90 or hot. Yeah. I think well, I think the UHF stuff is under 90 part 90. The low-band, I don't know. I would just pound on the table and ask them if they knew who I was. I wouldn't actually do that. But I would think about doing that. But yeah, it's it's um I would I would like I would like to check on that and see what happens. So I'm just looking here in Morgan County where I live in Indiana. Our Sheriff's Department is still licensed for dispatch and car to car in 155. So outside of the 800. Fire and EMS has has frequencies. They've also got a UHF frequency. So there's probably still a lot. Well, you got to remember something too. What you're seeing when you go to the FCC's database. What is not expired? When you come up to expiration six months prior.
We automatically just redo the license. Even if we're not using it. Not saying we're hoarding it because we don't know. We don't ever want to lose anything. Am I right, Freddie? You never you never want to ever ever you think it's tough and ham radio with all these gentlemen groups. Oh my god. It's worse in public safety where literally spectrum. Right. And that's where the engineering has to come in. And a lot of times you may apply for 50 watts. You're only going to get 35 watts. Now you got to change. Maybe something to do with your sites, your antennas. You know, there's a whole bunch of things. It's very interesting. Because for a while there, I thought everything when I didn't see anything licensed or they were licensed, you were automatically going to hear something now. On paper, there's still license for it. Yeah. That's why again, I would say it's going to be interesting to see how much low band is still going to be retained on paper. Like you guys said, with legacy, as long as you don't cause interference. It's going to be very interesting to see how
if this does move forward, how it moves forward, without affecting even if the group is no longer using it, you still have to respect. They're still licensed for it. And they can use it at any time. Yeah. That's a good point. Yeah. Even though there may not be a piece of equipment. Spring times the perfect time to turn the page and refresh your home style. The only problem, it can be expensive. That's TommyJohn.com code comfort. Tommy John. Comfort. Perfected. Yeah, to the subscriber or to the infrastructure. There's still a lot of paper out there. It's going to be fun. Yeah, I'm going to be interested to see where this goes. I, yeah, I'm going to, I don't know. I want to do some scanning and see what kind of activity is out here. And if I find some people talking on it, I, I might turn the camera off and key up a radio where I'm not supposed to be and see what, hey, what's going on, y'all? Hi, everybody. Yeah, no, I mean, I bet, I bet the only, I bet there's some,
I bet there's some municipalities out here that are probably still multi-casting down there somewhere. I'm sure, especially out near the delis that, you know, out farther outside of the city, outside the Metroplex. I bet there's some stuff out there. Highway Patrol, Texas, Texas, DPS Highway Patrol used to be down there somewhere. 47, 48 megahertz. Oklahoma did too for the longest time. Yeah, yeah. Look at the AM radio stations. If you go, there's been a couple great websites that I found out some downtime through AM radio. Remember how huge AM radio? We see what AM broadcast reason. A lot of these sites got put up. A lot of money. We're talking a lot of zeros, right guys? Yeah. And then they pulled the plug, but the site still stays up. And the only time it usually comes down when someone embodies the property. That's, so it's a very interesting, because I saw it out here in Connecticut, where a site was up from like, I don't know, 40 years. It hasn't been, you know, but the property got resold and now everything had to get pulled up. And it was very interesting how much metal they had to take out of the ground,
because of the ground radio system. Not only, but, you know, it's just, it's just amazing. It's, it's, it's just amazing, but I think as radio enthusiasts, whether, whether you're using your HF rig or a VHF or a traditional scanner, it's finally here at these stations out there. That's why I say, throw everything in your scanner and just let it roll. Just let it roll. Yeah, yeah, because you know, you know, what you're doing. That's a great idea. You never know what you might hear, whether it's pirate radio or not. We'll put that out there. I can't. Absolutely. Jerry says Google, CHP and low-end VHF. So we're going to, we're going to listen to like Paunch and John on their motorcycles. So those guys are still out there after. Now we're all going to have that song. Now we dated. If you got that reference, you're old. I mean, like I am, you know, you got that reference. So good, good discussion, good discussion.
So what do you guys think about these discussion streams? Because I like to take these types of topics. Oh, yeah, I love them. Good, good, good. All right. Don't know. You know, it's not like they don't do this every, right? Joe, Brad, you, you, wait a minute. You know, down in Mississippi, there have got to be some great low-band infrastructure down there. You know, Brad's just, Joe, Brad's just this, he's just upset that we spent the last hour and a half actually talking about AM radio. Exactly. What y'all do? You totally went all script here. Freddie, we need to get together about those new scripts you wrote for the All Star System. system. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I've got to have a live stream. So I still haven't had my 10,000 subscriber live stream. Have you not? You got to do that. I had a lot of family stuff coming up, kind of came up and it's slowed me down, but I got to do that
soon. Well, you know what I said, you know, you can do it pretty much. Yes, I do. I got to give away to a lot of everything. Well, I'll be out. I'll be I'll be in Connecticut next Sunday, but maybe we can do it in a couple weeks, Freddie. That was good. Okay. Give me a heads up ahead of time to remind me, you know, I'm old and old, but yeah. Okay. We find to get that stuff on all star. Yes, especially for more. Yes. We yeah, we absolutely. Well, you know what? Oh, speaking of hold on a second before I tell you that, no, you know what? Two weeks from night, Chris from Moore is going to be on the channel. Oh, cool. So yeah, invited him back on. That was the date that worked best for him. So let's plan the weekend after that, which is the 29th. 29th. All right. I'll put it down. I'll send it to you. I'll send it to you. Who's who's Chris? Chris Holloway his he is the the gentleman in charge of the more expo in in Springfield, Missouri that has an overland show that happens. I don't know. It's happens every every April for last few years. I've been there. This I think this will be my fifth year. I believe this will be my fifth year this year. And
we've gotten we've gotten a group of hams to go out there for the lot. We have a larger group of hams go out there every year. So if you're in the Springfield, Missouri area, the reason I chose that I went to the overland expo east in Virginia like five years ago with with gigaparts, they went out there and set up a booth. And I wish they would do that again, but they haven't done it again. And I met a guy out there and he's like, you should go to the more expo because it because they taught they they have taught a ham radio class in the past, which I find out later. It wasn't really what they did, but some other stuff, but that's fine. But the reason I chose it because it's only a six hour drive to get to more expo from where I'm at to get to spring from Missouri from where I'm at. And for anyone living in Texas, six hours is nothing. Nothing. It takes five hours to get to Galveston. I go down there all the time. So and it takes only three hours to get to Oklahoma City halfway through the state of Oklahoma. I can get there quicker than I get to Galveston. So six hours is nothing. So I'm like, oh, that's close. So let's go to Morex. And we've gone
there for the last four or five years. And I like to take people with me. We camp out. We set up tents. We cook on the blackstone. We go inside. We do some ham radio. There's a spot. There's two or three spot. 10 or 50 minute drive nearby. So we go activate poto one day. So it's just a it's a fun camp out thing. We we met old cousin, Ezra. Brother. Brother Ezra. I'm sorry. Brother Ezra. Brother Sam cousins. We committed some larceny. We didn't get larceny committed to some larceny. Yeah. And then there's bottles. And then there's Bob. Oh, Bob, man. Bob. Yeah. Good old Bob. So yeah. So yeah. So more expo Springfield, Missouri. We'll be talking about it on the channel. Watch for my sign up on my email list. Tam Radio 2.com forward slash email dash sign up sign up on my email list. We send a lot of emails about Morex, but between now and April, you know, spaced out, of course, not a lot of it once, but you know, spaced out every, every
email all of them with the old from landstuffs. Springtime is almost here. And if you've been itching to redo every room in your home, Bob's discount furniture can help. Tommy John, underwear is designed for a perfect fit that stays put all day. There's zero shape thanks to four times more stretch than competing brands. Comfort. Perfected. Yeah. Do you find them? Do you find the group to be overly... How do I say this? Receptive to ham radio incorporating into the hobby of over landing or you guys just do your thing and we'll do our thing. Is there a... Is there an enthusiasm to have ham radio there? Yes and yes. There's basically two types of people you'll meet in over landing. People who are like, oh, that's cool. And then really care about it, but they're not against it, you know, or people who are really want to jump in with both feet. So I was talking to my buddy Wes who owns three alarm over land. He does, he does like cooking spices, what not for your for your outdoor kitchen and whatnot. I had him on the channel one time a couple years ago. He goes to date and every year. So I met him in Virginia when I was there a few years ago and he had seen my channel before, but he wasn't a ham. He's like, so tell me about him. So we sat there and talked about him and this guy was cool because he had a camper van set up at the at the event there. Everybody was camping in their booths and in the camping area whatnot with this guy Wes and I
wish I could remember Wes's call sign, but I can't. Um, he had a cigar slash whiskey bar and I'm like, all right, we're friends now. So, so I, you know, I had my own cigars, but I've I've taken some of his whiskey. So we started talking. He was six months, we traded information. Six months later, he texted me. He's like, dude, I got my ham license. I'm like, that's awesome, dude. He was at Dayton the following year, working security in the back lot. He's been at Dayton every year working at volunteering security. A year after that, he texted me. He's got, I got my general license. I discovered Pota. He's like, I hate you now because Pota is freaking awesome. And I was like, yes, it is. And now I see him on Pota all the time. Yeah. So and he said, he's like, dude, I think that he goes, I think there's going to be an awakening in the overland community. Um, because once people figure out what you can do with this stuff, I think a lot of people are going to buy into it. So yes, I've also been going out into the parking lot of the more expo and we find a winded down and we throw in a UV by bar. Rob is done. Is Rob will walk out
there in the middle of the parking lot with a satellite antenna right in front of everybody. Oh, yeah. Just start making contacts. Yeah. He'll get a, he'll get a, he'll get a crowd of people around him. Yeah. He could see Rob coming from a long way way too. Rob is not going to rip it out. So you guys, you guys are at hamcation. You met Hector that that camped right next to us in the van. He had the Sprinter van. So Hector, what Hector showed up to more expo last year. I saw him. He drove by us. And I'm like, that's a ham radio antenna. That guy's van. And it's a really nice Sprinter van. He's got, he comes by and he walks up. And I'm like, hey, dude, he's like, Hey, man, he's like, I watched your livestream last weekend. I don't even know about the show. And it, this was like on Wednesday. He's like, I watched your livestream last Sunday. I don't even know about the show. So I decided, why not? He just, he goes, I just got in the van and came down here yesterday. And now he's joined us. And now he's, and now he camped with us at hamcation this year. Great guy. That's right. He was at Huntsville. That's right.
Yeah. So great guy. But you meet people like that. That's, that's what it's all about as those connections you make. I think so. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So more expo in April. I'm going to try to get, yeah, someone mentioned there is an Austin is doing a overland adventures and outdoor power split. I saw it on Instagram the other day. Well, I just saw it too. Yeah. Yeah. And I didn't outdoor power sports. Right. I've never heard of that. So it's, it's May 2nd and 3rd. I'm going to try like hell to get down there. I was like, oh, yeah, Austin, that's only three hours for me. That's nothing for a Texan. May 2nd's my wife's birthday. So TBD on that. Yeah. But I'm saying, honey, you're like, honey, honey, you want to go to overland show for your birthday? Didn't you say you want to go try to landing show for you just fire fire something. She owned a Jeep when we started dating. I'm like, come on. Let's go to a Jeep show, honey. Let's go. Just take, take her out on a date on the town. I can probably, I could probably tell her brother
lives down there. I could probably talk her into saying, hey, you want to go do some pota in the Austin area? She'd probably go for that. So she was a trooper. She activated all the national parks with me last week too. Awesome. So, uh, but yeah, I'm going to try to go to the, I'm going to try to go to the Austin show in May. But and those of you who watch my 30 days of him radio series last September, there is a show in Oklahoma. It's in northern Oklahoma. J Oklahoma. That's it. It's in J Oklahoma. It's in it's like the second or third week of September. Think about where we camp at the more expo and multiply that by 20. It is huge. It's huge. They have RV hookups in some places. They have camping. It's just, it's enormous. And the show is probably a little, it's all outdoors. It's probably a little bit smaller than more, but the camping is cool. And I was like, oh, Oklahoma, that's well, it ended up being five hours. So it's one hour closer to me. That's not that much, but real close to you, Freddie. Oh, yeah. So, so I'm going to maybe try to get a group
to go to Jay. I think that's called overland of America. I think is what that one's called. When is that it? September ish. Okay. Mid mid to late September. It's the same location where they have Rock, Oklahoma. You know, I don't know, like that's in J. They they they have a they have a huge facility out there that they do multiple things out. So it's a it's a it's a it's a huge field. It's it's really nice. I'm looking at it right now. Okay. Yep. So that's one too overland of America. I'll put that in the chat. Good. Okay. Yeah. Do that. Do that. So good. But yeah. So I mean, I I would like to because that camping trip, we do it more expo every year is really fun. Yeah. So for we're not going to have a coffee maker this year. Well, I'm still working on that. I mean, I figure something big is big big of a coffee maker, but we'll figure something on it. We're working on it. I've got some I can do single shot. I can
throw the eco flow in the back of the truck. It'll power 12 coffee makers. So I can always do that. And I'm bringing 200 amp hour batteries. So let's see what I need to I need to talk to you guys offline about some about some stuff after that. So anyway, well, I just I just run across that in my head. Joe Brett, come out to more expo, buddy. You're closer to your closer to Springfield than I am. So maybe I don't know. I come real close to traveling up maybe not last year, year before that, maybe a couple of years ago, first time you went up there. They have legit RV hookups around the perimeter of the fence. We camp in the middle with the tent camping, but there's there's people up there with full hookups and whatnot. So they they have that available. And it's first comfort serve. So yeah, we get the burly birds to yeah. We carry. Yeah. Almost couple days anyway. Well, they're on Wednesday. They're like us. Yeah, we have to put our antennas up and everything.
They'll either be really hot or really cold or rain or dry or all of them. Did Brandon Herrera win Senator for Texas? What you're saying, Michael Wolf? I wish I could have voted for that guy. I'm not in his district. I think it was just a primary. They had a runoff though. Well, actually, I think the other guy dropped out. But yeah, so they canceled their own off. But wasn't that was that the actual race or was that just I think it was just the primary. It might have been the primary. Yeah. So this guy is this guy is a huge second amendment advocate and he's a big time YouTuber. Yes, he's got like 1.5 million subs on YouTube. So I'm like, my buddy. Yeah, let's go. Come on. I'm trying to get him on the channel sometimes. So but yeah, good. So all right, guys, let's we could talk for the next hour. I'm sure, but we're not going to go out here crowd at monocino keeps me getting bigger. That's true.
Also, Brett. Yeah, what are plans for Huntsville this year? We're going to talk about Huntsville. We got some time before Huntsville. There's Dayton is more before Huntsville. We're going to we're going to worry about Huntsville after Dayton's over. So but yeah, same thing. Same thing that we did last year, but bigger. That's the plans for Huntsville at this point. Yeah. But yeah, good. So guys, thanks for coming on tonight. Frank, thank you. If you're still listening, appreciate y'all being here. This is a good topic. I would go figure out what I want to do for next month, but I really like these discussions. And when I rip these to audio and put them up on the audio podcast service, people really love it there too. So I was happy to have you guys on the show. Oh, yeah. It's good to be here. Anybody got any any special announcements I want to talk about? I would like to take maybe just a minute. Go ahead, Tim. So as you guys know, or may not know, I have a teenage son. He's a smart ass. And like all not like his dad at all, like all 13 year old kids.
And so the conversation of I think he thinks it's he doesn't admit to it. It's kind of cool that his dad does YouTube, right? So he's giving me crap. I have 4,711 subscribers. He bet me that I couldn't make it to 5,000 by the end of the month. We got to we got to totally prove it. We got to do that. Exactly where I saw work. We're going to prove him wrong. Yeah. Little so good. That's what I'm saying. I'm like, you cannot. Look, you're saying no way. I cannot. So I do need some help on that. Put your put a link to your channel on the chat. Absolutely. So yeah, y'all go help Tim out. If you're not subscribed over there yet. So the Jason real quickly. Yeah. Five years for clubhouse. I think Joe Bray helped me out. March two weeks, the 17th, maybe. Something like that. I mean, I thought it was five years last year. So we're doing five years. I'm pretty sure I went to that live stream already. Yeah. What we did was is my son did a mashup, but it never got
because it was so busy. And it talks about five years. So we're just going to use it. It's a year old, but it's still good. We'll have some stuff. We'll have some stuff. We'll have some stuff. You know, we'll talk about it. If I'm in town, I might, I might join you guys. So yeah. And tomorrow, I'll be on put a power. We're going to do matchtastic for blondes. You know, you got it. You got it. You got to wear your shirt, Dave. I will. I can wear it on theirs. I'm afraid to ask what they said. They've got a custom shirt made in Orlando. And it is. It's good. It's a good one. So how's the extra for April going for you guys on the clubhouse? I don't I'll stay out of it. You're like hard to get one extra Joe. So yeah,
we are doing that. Aren't we? That's right. That's what tank shows about. I know. Yeah. I heard y'all talking about that. And he was text to me at like four o'clock this afternoon. And I'm like, do you need an hour at Shane or Steven? Yeah. Shane's coordinating that. Shane is Steve or forgating that. Yeah. Um, again, it's plus it's also year round toe. You know, it doesn't have to be. Yeah. Yeah. Right. You know, it's one of those things. But again, if there's if people want to put, if people want to put something on their calendar, get them some goals absolutely. So it's always good to have a target, right? Something that's right. Oh, yeah, totally. And it's not just right. Yeah. If you're attacking, you want to go to general. It's fair to. So it's it's one of those things. Or you just want to get license. Yeah, you want to get license period. So the support group. Yeah. Yes. It's in the butt. Hippie. Get there. That's the work group of the radio problem, right? Yeah. Yeah. Right. Right. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Okay, guys, once again, thanks a lot. Appreciate it. Good discussion. We will do it again next month
before we do a lot of other things. And we're talking about this is March, right? Yeah, we're in March. So we're expo is next month. Also, we're going to talk about a lot later this month. And and some other things there too. So 73 all everyone have good evening. And we'll see you soon. That's right. Bye. Bye. Spring times the perfect time to turn the page and refresh your home style.
