E120: Stories Are Life - Interview with Adrienne MacIain
About this episode
Today Pete speaks to Adrienne MacIain, a story coach from Seattle. She helps individuals align themselves with their core message and then helps them get that message out via storytelling.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
A story coach is someone who brings out the stories of others. They help you figure out what stories are inside you, there might be ones ’colouring your world’ and you don’t even realise. They then help you decide whether it is a story to be shared, whether that is by writing a book, starting a podcast etc.
We all have stories. People tend to disregard the importance of their own stories.
Adrienne spent the first part of her life not knowing what she wanted or who she was. But it was an experience at an acting class that led her to change her life completely and sent her on a journey of self-discovery.
Keep loving yourself and accepting yourself despite all the reasons not to in life. That os the real secret to happiness.
Adrienne has three rules for happy living; to be authentic, be vulnerable and truthful and do uncomfortable work.
How people respond to you is not about you. It’s about them. Being able to realise and then accept this can really relieve a burden for many, particularly 'people pleasers'.
BEST MOMENTS
“We’re meant for adventures and we’re meant for stories”
“That was a really long winded way of me saying I really like your title [Fire in the Belly]”
“It never bothered me until it bothered me”
“So I would give myself a big hug and say it’s going to be ok”
