Coming up today on PFC Live, the Broncos make a huge move to improve their offense. Max Crosby speaks on the failed trade to the Baltimore Ravens and did the Steelers make a mistake in last year's draft. Hall of Fame player thinks they did. PFC Live starts right after this. So Wednesday edition of PFC Live March 18. 2026. I'm still into the third month of the year, struggling with the whole 2025, 2026 thing. Hopefully by April 1. I'll have it figured out once and for all. It is 2026 and Chris. Last night I watched a baseball game for the first time. That's good. In a long time. Wow. In a very long time. Wow. I didn't watch it actually. Yeah. Good for you.
Wow. You watched the first pitch. Right. So last out. Yeah. I kind of went to bed early, so I did not watch much of it. You know, so I got nothing to say other than Ben as well. I was a little surprised to wake up and see that. That they won the game. But yeah, I didn't, you know, it's again, it's weird. And this is where football is just totally taken over my life in some aspects where, like again, yesterday, I'm so in draft mode and I sit there and stare into a computer for six and a half hours and watch film and film and film that I get done, you know, days over, whatever, do a few things, gets down, sit down for dinner, have dinner. I turned on the world baseball classic pregame, but then was kind of like, all right. I'm getting tired. I flipped around channels a little bit, watched a few things with my son. And then that was it. I'm just like, okay, I had enough of sports today with my, you know, watching the football draft stuff. So, and I'm just not in baseball mode yet. So that's the other problem too. I'm a one that has to get in the mode.
I'm still just getting into basketball mode here, so I can't go to baseball yet. Well, what happened was a friend of mine and we get together a couple of times a year and we smoke a cigar and we sit in the barn and we just catch up on things and we share different ideas. He has business interests and we compare notes and baseball is the perfect background to a conversation because you don't really have to pay attention. So it's not like I sat there studying every pitch and deciding whether or not it was a slider change up. You know, oh, what are they doing here? What's the strategy here? We're just kind of had it on and then when it got good near the end, US was down to nothing. Bryce Harper hits a two run homer and then Venezuela gets a run in the, they top of the eighth and the USA was unable to do anything after that. Three to two was the final. And it's yet another sport where an international competition feels as big or bigger than the major league sport itself.
With hockey, the Olympic tournament overshadows anything in the NHL and the ratings for the Stanley Cup Final will be minuscule, not minuscule. That's an exaggeration. They will be less than what we saw on a Sunday morning for the gold medal game in the Olympics. Yeah. And it felt like the world baseball classic was getting more media coverage, more social media buzz than the major league baseball season is going to get. I don't know how compares with the world series, but it just felt as bigger, bigger than MLB's 162 game season, which is way too long, by the way. Yeah. I mean, it's definitely bigger than a regular season game. It's one though. I can't get into it. I can't. I mean, first off, they're not even playing baseball and regular season baseball. They're not even playing their best baseball yet. So that's where it's different than hockey, where it's the middle of the year. The people are all hitting on, you know, all cylinders go and all that.
So that that's the one part of the world baseball classic where I'm going. Wait, guys just started practicing a few weeks ago. So we think this is like really as good as they are and all that. So I have that aspect where I'm a little bit of a hater on it. And no, like I'm sorry. You know, every game I turned on, the stadium was half full. It was 75% full. Last night, I was watching the start of the game. It wasn't even a full stadium. It couldn't have been that big of a deal. I mean, so yeah, I don't know. It doesn't excite me that way, where so yeah, I'm poo pooing the world baseball classic. I really actually don't give a damn about it. Go get a guy who aren't in mid season form. Yeah, Aaron Judge clearly is proving your point that he's not in season form, especially in elimination games. Yeah, I just don't know how much of their edge of baseball player loses. They play all year long. It feels like they don't have a huge break. I don't know what kind of training they do. But I assume that when they're not in season, they do things to keep their reaction sharp, whether it's bad in cage, whether it's all the different, you know, bouncing down.
You know, bouncing ball thing and you know, anything and everything to keep yourself in that ability to walk into a batter's box and swing and hit a pitch or to be able to still throw the ball. And I think for a pitcher, it's not like you're forgotten how to throw. You still can. No, you're just not grooving. No, you're not grooving at all. Just like anything. Just like, you know, it's like it's asking like us. Let's play the world around the middle of the training camp with football. It's like, yeah, we're not going to be as good football players yet because we're just getting going back into the swing of football like we talk about every year. You know, it's, you know, week five or six this, this, this day and age is when it feels like teams really start to get their feet underneath them. But either way, it is a big event and I do love baseball. So I don't mean to poo poo it totally like that. I do. I just don't give a crap about it in the middle of March right now, just as March madness is about to start and all that. And I just can't quite buy into it yet. I won't watch any of March madness. I won't watch any of it. None. No interest. Wow. Zero. Yeah. Yeah. I got to throw it. I used to.
I used to be guy who would watch all day, Thursday, Friday, get sad on Saturday that there wasn't as much action. I was sad on Sunday that the opening two rounds are ending. I was into it. I was into it. I'm full. It's like fireworks. I've reached my lifetime limit. You, I've reached my lifetime limit basketball. I just, I call it basketball. That's why you live where you live because you've had your lifetime limit of a lot of things a long time ago. If, if, if West Virginia, we're in the, the dance. I, oh, you know, all of a sudden you haven't had your lifetime full. Yeah. Yeah. Well, your school stinks. There is. There is. So they're not there. Hey, hey, not at rifle. And that's the one thing you don't want to agitate about because we'll shoot you. Yeah. If you mouth off. Okay. All right. Yep. 21st National Championship in rifle. When's the last time Texas woman and of all places, Texas should be great at rifle. Yeah. Right? No. Yeah. They just shoot people down there. They don't shoot targets. They're more into just people. Okay.
All right. On that note. Yeah. It's Wednesday. And we've gotten through free agency. There are still random signings. They're not going to be any big money signings of guys who are currently free agent. So less the cowboys would rescind the franchise tag from George Bickens. Isn't going to happen. But you know, when you think about where the mindset of a team is right now. We had a plan potentially to add some guys in free agency. And we didn't get what we wanted. So maybe there's a trade to be done. And you have teams out there that are undergoing change and they're thinking maybe there's a trade for us to do. And if the two ends can meet the Venn diagram, the two circles can kiss you get a deal. So out of the blue yesterday morning, Janel Waddle, first round pick in 2021 by the Miami Dolphins, a guy who had produced at a high level last two years, not as much.
But early in his career, 21, 22, 23, very effective had a contract in 24, 28 and a half million new money average, which was near the top of the market at the time. Goes to the Denver Broncos who desperately need help at the position. It's a win win. Dolphins are overhauling everything. And they flip Janel Waddle for a first round pick 30th overall. 20th, 26th, 3rd and 4th round pick. And Denver also receives with Jalen Waddle, Miami's 4th round pick. So it's one of those greens of sand. 4th round, yours is 19 lower than ours. And so we're going to we're going to do that. So it's Waddle and Miami's higher for for a one, a three and a four for the Denver Broncos or for the Dolphins, excuse me, from the Denver Broncos. And hey, it does make sense for the Broncos because it's Portland Sutton and who as the options for bone nicks.
Yeah, exactly right. I mean, it was a much needed move. It's two teams that actually you look at it and you go like they're going in different directions. One team's trying to Miami's trying to totally rebuild get their checkbook right, set it all up for the future. The Broncos are like, no, the future is now. We're ready. We're here. This were a Super Bowl football team as we saw. I mean, they made mistakes in the AFC championship game where you can sit there and still, you know, a realistic man could go not even with the backup. They probably might have been the better team on the football field that day. We've discussed a few times with Denver. I mean, they don't need anything on the defenses side of the ball. That's set up. The defense is phenomenal at all three levels. They learn that's one of the best in the sport. If not the best, they're right up there with the Texans and the Seattle Seahawks as the best units on the defensive side of the ball in the sport. Offensively though, offensively, no work. It was it was trouble at times last year to move the ball was work. I mean, you said it right. The guys they had a receiver are not exactly household names.
And they're not the kind of guys that can take pressure off the offense and do awesome things like Jalen Waddle kit. And then we know Sean Payton knows how to use these type of guys. Whether it was branded cooks in the old days of the Northern Saints, even Michael Thomas, even though he's a bigger guy, we know that he knows how to use a slot receiver and can get him open in that part of the field and hit him running and watch out. So yeah, for a team that's in the Super Bowl window that's sitting there going, wait, the only thing we're missing is an offensive explosive playmaker and late in the first round. We might not get one there that we feel is really good enough to help us out right now in the Super Bowl windows so they make a move for Jalen Waddle. Good for them. They're ready to go. Amazing move for them. That really is. I'm, you know, applaud the Sean Payton and company out there. It is a lot to give up. Yeah, Waddle has been very good. Now yet, three straight thousand yard seasons to start his career. And as I mentioned, the last two years have not been spectacular. But the offense offense has been exactly. That's right. Spectacular. Yeah, the quarterbacks not been spectacular. We've talked about that. So there's been issues.
That's what I defended Mike McDaniel about right for so long. I mean, they were having one of the best offenses and one of the most creative offenses in the sport with a quarterback that was extremely limited in what he could do and the parts of the field that he could attack with his arm. I mean, that's not easy living that way. And of course that hurt Jalen Waddle. It doesn't open the field for him. Everybody's like, wait, Jalen Waddle is going to get the ball. Well, he'll probably be running over the middle around six to seven yards. Right. I mean, that's how you saw Jalen Waddle. So now he's got bonics. He's going to go, whoa, I can run all these routes and we can get the ball on the regular. And I think it's going to show us more of the Jalen Waddle you're talking about early in the career, Mike. And when you look at the dolphins and the one thing that I'm very confident about. Yeah. Yeah. The vision may not ultimately bear fruit, but this is a team that has no daylight between General Manager John Eric Sullivan and coach Jeff Halfley. Yeah. That was the message that came through loud and clear.
The Tuesday of Combine Week when you were snowed in and try to make your way. Right. Indianapolis. Yeah. Spent 15 minutes with Halfley. And I was very impressed with him. He hadn't met him. Didn't know him. I really was blown away by the fact that the dolphins have finally gotten something right. And maybe that's Trey Ackman and his influence, who's still going to continue to work for the team because, hey, if Tom Brady can own the Raiders and work for Fox, what the hell? Well, maybe, maybe we'll maybe if there was anybody out there that want us to consult with them and maybe do the opposite of whatever we suggest, you know, let's go grab that paycheck. Trey Ackman must have done a good job. Trey Ackman made a couple of good recommendations to the extent Stephen Ross listened to Trey Ackman because I feel like Sullivan and Halfley have a plan that they're confident if it's implemented accurately and properly, it'll work. But when you look at it, two has gone. Yeah, Tyree kills gone, right, which we expected, but still it's jarring. It is.
Jamel Wattles gone, Bradley Chubs gone, make if it's Patrick's gone. Yeah, I mean, they traded. Yeah, I'm with you, man, they're rebuilding like this is one of the reasons I'm not going to lie when I heard the trade and it went down. I went, wow, that's awesome for Denver. That's exactly what they needed. That kind of guy right there can throw a screen, can throw a slant over the middle. And it's just beep beep. I'm gone. It's 70 yards down the middle. And that's what Jalen Wattles could do. But Mike, here's another thing that came to my mind. And I know we talked about this kind of leading up to free agency with I did think of Malik Willis. I went to Malik Willis and went because one of the reasons I was a little like, wait, maybe if he's got a choice between Arizona and Miami, I'd probably choose Arizona. There's a little more support there right now. You know, there's a little bit more. Hey, the GM's going to start winning. And of course, it's Matt LaFour's brother. I looked at Malik Willis with going to Miami thinking, you know, the covered could be dry. Who knows what happens with their team? You might not have the support around you there.
So yeah, there he is signing last week going, hey, I'm in the new starting quarterback. This is awesome with the Miami Dolphins. And at least I got Jalen Wattles. And now he doesn't even have him. And so yeah, it's, it's a, it's a new era there in Miami. Certainly that you respect what they're doing and they're planning for the future. But as a quarterback, yeah, my mind didn't go to the quarterback for a minute for the guy that just signed there going, oh, man, that's not, you know, going to be great for him there. Well, Miami now has seven picks in the first three rounds of the 2026 draft. Incredible. Only 36 days away. So they can go young. Yeah, get the guys they believe in. There is that collaboration and alignment between Sullivan and Halfley. So they're building. Somebody suggested they're tanking. Who would they be tanking for? They're not going to, I mean, even if archmaning becomes the consensus number one pick next year, they have Malik Willis under contract for two years. I don't think, although I don't put anything past Steven Ross, because he did allegedly offer $100,000 per loss to Brian Flores, although it was a joke. It's a joke. Funny joke. Funny.
Ha, ha. That's a joke. That's a good. Yeah. That's a knee slapper. But I think your dollars for each game you lost. Good joke. Yeah. But I don't think they're tanking. I think they're just there. They're stripping down the pieces that they think need to be stripped down and they were placed and rebuild and move forward. That's right. You know, and we've had, you know, fun with the Miami dolphins and their retool in their organization. And they're trimming the fat with guys that, you know, for the most part, not Jalen Waddle in this conversation. They're guys that were past a prime. They were being overpaid. Hence the nickname. I gave the Miami dolphins as the star efforts because they were, oh, wait, your star. Hey, we'll overpay you to come here. Come here. Come here and ruin our team. We'll overpay you. You can ruin the locker room and the teams. Checkbook. Awesome. Well, that's the way to do it. Let's fire Mike McDaniel, though. Okay. Okay. So yeah, yeah, they're redoing everything there. And so be it. They had to do that. I think it's the right move. And it's, it's going to be maybe a step back to take two steps forward. Like you talked about, but I do feel like we're seeing more of this lately.
The team's realizing the spot. They're in and maybe going in like the Raiders just tried to do this, but it got, you know, messed up with the Max Crosby injury situation of like, let's just start with a young nucleus. Let's get picks. Let's try to get a quarterback and then go young nucleus around that and grow it from there. It's interesting. And that seems to be the approach that Miami dolphins are taking there. All right, football historian. It's true. Your question for you unplanned unprompted. Okay. You know, the answer if you, if you watched PFTPM from yesterday, but I know you didn't know I didn't. Who is the only first round pick? Free chop Robinson in 2024. The only dolphins first round pick who is now still on the team with Jalen Waldo being traded. Only one. There's only one 24 only one. Man only one. I actually know this, I think, because it's, it's a, it's a lineman, right? Oh, wait, no, but they didn't pick them.
Did they, I'm going to say Austin Jackson. Thing. There it is. Who is Austin Jackson? He is not easy. I know it's not an easy one. That's not an easy one. But somebody feed you that answer. No, no, I promised you I would never let that happen. I am a historian. You know, I am some may, some may say, right? Many are saying out there that I am a historian. But yeah, I, I knew you're saying I knew that just because well, I kind of went through it. And then I was thinking and then I, you know, Austin Jackson kind of got a slow start of his career and had some issues at USC. Then got there. Now he's kind of been playing and doing his thing there. So yeah, I got lucky there where at least came into my mind pretty quickly. The pressure was on now. The two COVID drafts in the two pandemic drafts. The dolphins had five first round picks. And Austin Jackson is the last man's day. That's incredible. That's a lot. Austin Jackson. Yeah. No, Ike Benogany in 2020. Oh, wow. The two jailings. Right. Spell like, like, like the green mile.
But you know, sounds the same, but it's not, but spelled different. However, he said coffee. You got one jailing spells it one way, one jailing spells it the other way. Both of them traded. Now they got a third round pick for Jalen Phillips. And they got a first round pick back for Jalen water. It's not like they were taken to the cleaners. That's right. But all those first round picks, pre-chop Robinson, Austin Jackson, the only one left. I said yesterday, you know, you fire Chris Greer during the season, you fire him again after you have to pay to a $54 million for the guarantee. And now you fire him again when you look at this, like, where's all the first round picks? These are the guys who should be the guts of the team, the nucleus, the ascending talent that we're rallying around. It really is stunning to see that many misses. And it's something to keep in mind because as we get closer and closer. And I'm already feeling the prickling needles of irritation. As we get closer and closer to the draft, people within the NFL draft industrial complex are going to be hyping it incessantly.
And everyone is great. And every player is a pro bowler, if not a possible Hall of Famer. And there's never any talk about the historical reality that have these guys on the first night. It's just not going to work out and it may not be them. It may be them. It may be the team. It could be their lack of maturity. It could be that their talent has reached a ceiling that it won't exceed. But before everybody gets drunk on promise of what that first round draft pick is going to do. There's a chance it's not going to work. And that reality is just completely forgotten. It's eat drink and be merry for tomorrow. We shall, you know, be drafting again in the top 10 because this year's top 10 picked it and workouts probably too long for a t-shirt, but you get my point. Yeah. Well, Mike, I think that's probably the big reason that they're doing that. They don't have time to take that gamble or that risk. They know they're there. They can know they can win the Super Bowl. They got that type of team.
They don't have the time to go, well, gosh, we really like this guy at the end of the first round. But he is a rookie. Is he going to be able to learn all the rules of the Sean Payton Davis Web offense? Is he going to be able to handle the grind of the week to week in the NFL? His first regular season or his first season in the NFL? Is that going to be good enough to get us to the Super Bowl? And I think that's probably why they looked at it and said, okay, we got to get a guy that's tried and true proven we know what he is. And that's where you go with Jalen Waddle. And that's where it makes a lot of sense. He's going to open up their offense in so many ways. And we talked about Sean Payton and the ability to all the slot routes and everything he does there. But of course, Jalen Waddle can run right by you and go deep, too. And Bo Nix is a good deepball thrower. So he's just going to do so much there. And then it'll make Cortman Sutton better. And then hopefully off of that RJ Harvey in a year, too, can expand and become a more explosive playmaker. To where now you start to go, oh, wait, we got Jalen Waddle. Ooh, it's Bo Nix, year three.
Oh, he's a different guy now. He's been there, done that. Watch out. And you get to RJ Harvey. It's your two. He knows how to play in the NFL, knows what to expect, how to run in the NFL, all of that. And that's where you start to go. Okay, you couple that with our defense. We can be a different team because we know last year we had lots of games where we watched the Broncos and went, okay, good first drive. Oh, okay. And we're not going to put a drive together until the fourth corner now. There was a lot of that between the Denver Broncos. They played the ugliest game of the year on Thursday night football. And this is hopefully going to fix all those situations for them with Jalen Waddle in the fold. Would it be fair to say that Jalen Waddle could become the Michael Thomas of the Denver offense? Yeah, I do. I do. I think you could say that in some degree. I mean, we know it's a different player, right? Physically physique wise. But yes, I would imagine that he becomes the go-to guy that they formulate.
And, you know, no, Sean Payton a little bit as I do and following him so closely because he was part of the Parcels and Grootin and he was with them. And kind of, you know, I've always been a big fan to where I follow him that way. He's got some of the Grootin in him where, you know, basically every play in the offense is made for the main guy. It's like, well, he's the first read, but we got, you know, fail safe plans if he's not open off of that. But every damn play when we're in the huddle, it's pretty much going to be like, we're given the Jalen Waddle and we're going to give it to him until they bend to such a capacity. We could start to call other places and there's mismatches everywhere and other places, right? So that's where, yeah, like when I, when before you said that, I was going, you know, I really feel like I'd be shocked if Jalen Waddle doesn't have 100 receptions this year and at least 1200 yards receiving. I would be shocked because I just think they're going to feed them the ball over and over again. Yeah, and we know what Michael Thomas did in that offense. We had a historic start to his season until he had a freak ankle injury week one 2020 against the Buccaneers.
I still remember watching the game and seeing Thomas get rolled up on. He was never the same after that. So Waddle can go there and the Broncos are absorbing his full contract. There was a misfire from one of the ESPN insiders yesterday. I won't say which one, but there was a misfire as to the Broncos and the dolphins splitting the financial burden. The dolphins are taking are taking on none of the financial obligation in order to get this trade done. The Broncos are absorbing it all and there isn't a whole lot of money for 2020. It's that's where it makes me wonder is Waddle going to want is he going to want now, you know, is he a big enough star where it's presumed he's going to get an adjustment on the way through the door. That's right. That's right. He he may just be stuck with the contract that he signed and you may have to prove himself this year, get 100 plus catches. And then after this year, maybe they'll take care of him financially. I think that's probably more the realistic route there.
And you know, a little bit. This is one of those where first off, I would think he, you know, saw the writing on the wall and was like, wait, it's rebuild time in Miami. It's rebuild. Well, I can go here and be a part of a team that might go to the Super Bowl right away. So I think there's going to be that. And then I think on top of that, you're, you're exactly right. They're going to go, Hey, let's just let's have a year here. Let's see where it goes. They're going to want to pay them if he's the man that they will. So he doesn't have to worry about that. But yeah, I would expect that it goes, it goes that way. And then maybe at the end of the year when he's got, you know, 90 receptions and 1200 yards and eight touchdowns, they start to go, OK, he's our guy for the future. Let's give him a little sweetener. Let's extend the deal. Whatever. But that was part of the reason. Mike, I did think, you know, the contract details are just phenomenal for the Denver Broncos for that to be like that, whether you're number one receiver and you're not paying your quarterback yet. And he big money. And then the quarterback fits with all the great ways he's so accurate throwing the balls in the short passing game to hit guys like him on the run.
That's where it's just, it's a match made in heaven all the way around for the Denver Broncos as far as I'm concerned. And I would suspect that in the process of negotiating the trade, Sean Payton gets on the phone with Jalen Wattel's agent says, now, look, if we do this trade, he's not going to show up here and hold out is I want to know. Yeah, is he going to be powdering? Is he going to be all my hamstrings sore? I can't practice today. Or is he going to come here and go all in because if he does, and he takes care of us, we'll take care of him. He's got what I could do Sean two years. Yeah, I could see that too. I mean, that's how the good teams would operate. And I think that's again, going back to Max Crosby is a little shocking is because usually those type of conversations go down before the moves are even made. It's just like, Hey, how you feeling? Oh, you're good. We talked to your doctor. We talked to a few other people blah, blah, blah. We know how things work behind the scenes there. But yeah, would be shocked if those things didn't go on. And what's he got two years left? Is that what it is on his deal right now? My three three. Wow.
He signed through 2028. And next year's base salary is 23.3 million, which is well below market. And for the final year, it's 25.7 million, which will be well below market. And the market may be 45 to 50 million by the time he gets to the last year of the deal. But it was at the time 28.5. I don't think about it. It's more than 10 million below the top of the market. When Jalen Waddle did four for 28.5, it was close to the top of the market. And it was one of those things where when he got the deal, both Odo Beckham, Jr. and Tyree Kill were on the team and they were needling him about the money he was making. It surprised people because he's never been viewed as the guy. He's always been except for his first season in the shadow of Tyree Kill. But he's capable of being every bit as productive, which makes it wild to think that the dolphins won't have both of them.
We knew where this was going with the Tyree Kill deal. I didn't expect Jalen Waddle to be gone this quickly drafted sixth overall in 2021. Yeah, I tried to go traded picks to get him. And Penny Suel was on the board. Patrick Surtain was on the board. Michael Parsons was on the board. One of the dolphins picked Jalen Waddle. So they had a high opinion to him. I was surprised he won as high as he did. He had three straight thousand year old seasons as we said. And he made a guy in his eighties do a funky dance doing that. That's the one thing I'll miss. Greg Penner needs to learn how to how to do the Stephen Ross. There it is. Oh, don't worry. I think we'll get there. Come on, Stephen. That's good. That's good. It's actually actually a rare humanizing moment for a multi billionaire. So come on, Greg. I like the mood. You could do you could do it better than Ross. Greg. That's pretty good. Yeah, it is good. Yeah, but we could stop it now.
But I think they're going to learn that. But it is crazy because I think to your point with what we're, you know, it's awesome for Denver. We know their team is pretty complete, right, with all lines damn good. I mean, there's really not a lot to look at. This is the one thing they had it would dress. But it is kind of fascinating with Miami because we are only a few years removed for going. Man, is this this was the greatest show on on turf part two. It was the fastest offense we had ever seen. And that that's where it shot up on H and Rahim Mozart. You know, Tyreek, Jalen Wattel, like you talked about just was a give the ball here, give the ball here, throw the ball there, throw the ball there. They're gone. See you later. I mean, it was incredible. And for that era, yes, to have come just crashing down. I guess so quickly. It is a little shocking and you look at the dolphins right now and you just go, yeah, I think this is going to continue. And they're going to take the, I think the young nucleus route like we were talking about.
Yeah, there, you know, the quarterback still young. I think they're going to hope that works so they don't have to address that with the draft. Let's hope we got that. And then we can build around them with all these draft picks and what we got. But you look at what Miami's done at receiver value signing in a two to at well. Value signing in a Jalen tober. Guys that only get on the field for the teams they played for previously. If people were injured or if somebody was tired, they were the third, fourth receivers on the field that way. So that also tells me that yeah, I would expect Miami to be drafted and some receivers in this draft, too, to continue that young nucleus growing with Malik Willis. But yeah, it is shocking Mike to your point because they were so amazing and fun to watch there for a while. And look, we don't know what Malik Willis is going to do in Miami. We've seen some good things in limited opportunities the past couple of years. The dolphins brain trust, which knows him well, talked about this last week. They know him better than anyone. They've been around him. They've been able to watch him. They've been able to see how he works, how he practices, how he carries himself,
how he leads on the practice field, how he leads in the locker room when it's his chance to play. And they're all in with him at least for two years until Lamar Jackson's contract expires and he tries to come home to Miami. So and I'm kidding, but maybe I'm not who knows how the future is going to go. But it's not like the dolphins are breaking up a championship team. It's not like they're dismantling something that has been working. It hasn't been working. They've missed the playoffs for two straight years. They haven't want to play off game since 2000. They did that goofy thing a couple of years ago. And it was goofy to set all the clocks 24 minutes ahead or whatever it was as a reminder or a constant reminder that it's been 24 years since they've won a postseason game. So this is a team that's got a couple of little embarties in the trophy case, but they're old and they're tarnished. Yeah. They last won a Super Bowl in January of 1974. It was the first Super Bowl that I ever watched start to finish.
That's how long ago it was. Yeah. And I'm old. Yeah. I was eight. Well, it's not eight. I'm always the age of the Super Bowl. I'll say I'll never forget that. I forget it sometimes. How old was I for Super Bowl eight? I was eight. How old was I for Super Bowl 20? I was 20. How old was I for Super Bowl 60? Let me think. Yeah. I was 60 or 60. You're older. You're older. That's what you are. But yeah, well, you know, that's right. You're not too far behind there. We do. We do. You're closing on me. I am. We do. We do like. I guess because of different ownership and all that, but it is kind of amazing that with Miami. I mean, Miami there for a while. As you know, pre-Christ Sims life, but even into Christ Sims life was one of the crown jewel franchise of the sport. It was almost like the Dallas Cowboys. Oh, it's it's it's Don Shula. They're in the Super Bowl or the AFC championship game almost every year. It's Dan Marino. Can they get back?
But they're still very relevant. They're very they're in the final four. They're in the final eight almost every single year. And yeah, that just it is kind of amazing lack of wins in the playoffs. Of course, no Super Bowl appearances since 1984 with Dan Marino and Super Bowl 19. So it is amazing that way. But we'll see. We'll see if they can get that going in the Miami Doffins organization here for the future. It's just it's funny where they're at. And then again, you know, you go back to Denver and they're just in the thick of things. And Denver is also funny, Mike. I just think of going. They did nothing in free agency. They did nothing. They just sat back and I think that tells you they're going, wait, we're good. We don't really need anything. And then they just waited for their moment to make the one move they needed to make. And I think everybody was wondering what they were going to do as far as who they're going to get as a playmaker. And I was getting to the point where I go, well, I guess they're just going to go to the draft. I guess that's how they're going to go here. And then boom, we get the slash report yesterday and it's Jalen Waddle and watch out for the Broncos.
And you wonder who all they called, who all they explored, who all they kicked the tires on. Because it's unlikely that the first team they called was the only team they called. They may have targeted some veteran receivers. They may have called, and I'm just saying I'm not reporting. I'm just speculating. They may have called Minnesota about Justin Jefferson. Who knows? They may have called about AJ Brown. Talked to the Eagles about AJ Brown. Eagles want too much for AJ Brown. Who knows? Maybe the Rams called Devonte or called them the Broncos about Devonte Adams. We don't know. And let me just, I'd forgotten to mention this. I really am stunned that so many Rams fans, including former Rams quarterback Jim Everett. Oh, wait. Sean did on this last night. Unless it's a, unless it's a fake Twitter account and you never know anymore. Thanks, Elon. You never know whether a blue check with a name you recognize truly is that person. Which really, which really makes the Twitter platform much more valuable.
If you don't know for sure whether or not that person who's tweeting really is that person. You know, who doesn't like a little mystery? Who doesn't like a little element of? I'm really not sure if that's that person, but I'll go ahead and assume it is. So assuming it is Jim Everett who chimed in. I just want to say to all the Rams fans out there who think it's ludicrous and ridiculous and fabricated. That they were making calls about trading Devonte Adams. What in the, do you think they were going to do with Puka Nakua, AJ Brown and Devonte Adams? What do you think they were going to do? Puka's going to get paid near the top of the market. AJ Brown's walking through the door with 29 million a year. Devonte Adams making 24 million this year. Do you think they were keeping all three? Do you think they were paying all three?
Do you really think that? Do you really think they were going three amigos 2.0? Puka Nakua, AJ Brown, Devonte Adams. If AJ Brown comes in, Devonte Adams is out. It's not that difficult. Now. Now. He put a trophy of the end. That's exactly what I am. They're not shopping him now. That ship sailed when they tapped out of the AJ Brown talks. The whole point was they were talking to the Eagles about AJ Brown. They got scared off by some of the, as I'm told, preliminary medical research. They decided too much of an investment for a player at this age, general wear and tear. You know, we're not going to do it, but they were lining it all up.
So if they get AJ Brown, they trade Devonte Adams. They were looking for trade partners for Devonte Adams. Now they paid him to 6 million over the weekend. It's done. He's there. But if you have any credence toward the AJ Brown trade talks, you got to ask yourself, Ram's fan, were we really going to keep all three of these guys? Oh, it would be nice to keep them in a perfect world. It's nice to have them on your fantasy team. But that ain't how it works when you got that much money invested already in Brown and Adams. And Puka's getting ready to get his. It makes zero cents. No, zero cents. I'm with you all the way, Mike. I think everybody kind of in the NFL knows what you're talking about is true. Not Jim Everett. Well, okay. I don't know, you know, Jim. Maybe it's his alter ego. I got a lot of respect for Jim and what he did back in the day and all that. But I don't, you know, see him following the league as a whole like that. He might have a feel for the Rams and all that. But, but, you know, I only notice him with things like this every now and then.
So, yeah, I don't know if he knows all the people you do and all that. And I think it just classifies under one of those things that we probably should have a segment go. Say it out loud. Say it out loud. I like that. I think they're going to have AJ Puka and Devonte all on the same team and all with this huge cap number. And they're all going to think, hey, it'll all work. AJ just came from a place where when he doesn't get the ball, some things go on. But yeah, we're going to bring him here. And when we get to the one, we're going to throw it Devonte and we're going to throw it to Puka. Maybe we'll throw it. Like, yeah, there's, there's no way. So yes, from common sense, I believe you're right. And from knowledge, I believe you're right. Yeah. And you don't need to know someone who is aware of exactly what happened to come to the conclusion that if this team gets AJ Brown, they're not keeping. Devonte has the first thing I thought when I saw the reporting suggesting that the Rams had been or were talking to the Eagles about AJ Brown.
Oh, wait a minute. Is that Devonte? Adam's going to be there then. They're only using one football and they only have 301 million in cap dollars. And there's too much money invested in the receiver position if you bring him to town. I propose that we arrange for an in-person interview of Jim Everett on April 6th, April 6th, Monday, April 6th. Gary, can you set that up? I'll come to Stanford. We get Jim Everett to Stanford. April 6th. Why April 6th? Don't Google it. Is that the gym? Is that the gym wrong day? It's the anniversary. It's the anniversary of a certain incident where, and we need to do, we need to do the interview in a room. Where there's a table that is capable of being flipped at least to be part of it. First off, that was a big table. And it was heavy. That was a big table. Because because Jim Everett is like freaking Adonis, all right. First off, like he is a big dude. And I can still remember him lifting it and being like, whoa, hold on, I got to do a little more here.
I was watching that live that night. I can still remember that. Watching it live. I used to. I do. I really used that idea. And I did. I mean, I used to watch Jim Rome. Jim Rome was kind of the first of his kind as far as that. So, you know, it was, you know, Jim Rome, King of Scrubs. And you could call into the show. And me and my cousin, who I'm very close with, we were kind of obsessed with him and his different style. And we got into this. Let's call in. My cousin actually got in and got on the show once. I never did. But we were avid watchers of it. And I was watching that night. That was one of the most unbelievable things of live TV that I'll ever remember. I mean, it was, it was an incredible moment. It really was. I don't know what the hell Jim Rome was thinking, poking that bear. And then after that, it was, you know, it was pretty entertaining. Yeah. Yeah. So Monday, April 6th, Gary, get on it. All right, Jim. Get here. Just remember. It's four.
You got to go after it. I'll fly on to Florida. Well, I'm thinking that, you know, I might help you. I will have backup. I'd like to pay back up. And, and let me tell Jim, Everett, in advance, I'm 60. You should research the outer abuse laws of the jurisdiction in which this interaction connects lawyers. So I need to be careful. I need to, I need to pick, pick a state where, you know, there's greater protection for the elderly and the infirm, both of which I am. All right. One more thing. Just one more thing, just off of it, just because just to wrap it up. I just, I saw this when I just opened up our run down of our show today. I am shocked that we sit here, the Denver Broncos, and I look at the odds for the teams to win the AFC. And the Broncos are seventh tied for sixth. Like, what? I just, I'm, I'm like, I'm wowed by that. I'm wowed by it.
I really am. I mean, the Broncos, they're, they're, they're literally weren't even at their peak. I think best last year. Still playing with house money, year two. No offense of playmaker. I mean, the defense is young, and then it's prime. I think it's only going to get better there. I, I just am shocked to hear, again, bills behind the bills. Just about ahead coaching change. Okay. I can understand that a little behind the Ravens, behind the chiefs. Behind the chargers. I am surprised by that. I am. I'm just, I'm a little, I'm a little surprised them and the Patriots are so far down the line here. I mean, the Broncos were the one seed in the conference last year, and they have continuity, and they have Sean Payton. That'd be the long bed. I'd made very hard to be ahead coach. Yeah. I mean, well, and that's the thing. Those odds are being influenced by bets being made by the kinds of people who think the Rams were going to have Devonte Adams, AJ Brown and Puginacou on the same roster.
So that, that's, that's how you can find value in some of these bets. I don't recommend it. But if you choose to wager your hard earned money as a budget that is devoted a certain amount of your cash to entertainment, that's fine. That's your business. But this is an area where you can find some odds that may skew in your favor because those odds are being determined in part by people who are making dumb bets. And someone has made enough bets on other teams to drive the Broncos down that far. And it's just sitting there smiling at you. Yeah. And that's how if you're going to ever have a chance to break even over the long haul, that's what you got to be looking for that kind of thing. And will it win maybe not, but those are the kind of bets you need to look for where there's value in the bet. And you, and you divorce from the process anything you like. Yeah. You're not betting based upon exactly your favorite team.
Yeah. You're being very analytical and exacting. And Chris, I've told you the story of my dad. I was growing up. Dad's a bookie in a town 60 miles from Pittsburgh. He hated the Steelers. Every week. The locals. A smattering of the who's who. The local gambling illegal lawyers, doctors, judges. I found the envelopes all the all the sheet back in the old days. You actually took the sheet with all the lines. You put it in an envelope. You put the dude's name on it. You put a stamp on it. You nailed it to him on Monday. So he'd be able to call in and make the bets on Sunday. I used to see the stack of envelopes that would be sent out on Monday. Yeah. Yeah. Um, you, you, they all bet the Steelers. They all bet the steel, didn't matter what the line was. They bet the Steelers. So my dad was loaded up every week on the Steelers. That's what gets you into trouble. Definitely. Well, that in those, in those days, it got the house into trouble.
In those days, the Steelers were covering everywhere. Which is why he hated the Steelers so much. Damn, they're good. Damn. They're losing money. Michael, you can't have that toy this week. I got to pay some people out here. Terry Bradshaw threw a bomb to stalwart the, the Steelers won again. But yeah, this is it. And it is surprising. And to your point, and I was going to go here too. It's just, yeah, to me, like the long play bets are the way you can make money if you are going to bet. It's the thing that I probably get the most people come up to me and say, hey, I heard you say this in the spring or the summer. And I bet on it. And thank you. And I still get it. I still, I had somebody at the gym the other day go, man. Yeah, I made money last year off of you. You said the Broncos were going to A in the win the AFC West. And I put money on it before the year. And, you know, the guy put like $150 on it. And he won a freaking few thousand dollars or whatever. So, so that, that, and you're not into the recent, it's the bias like you talk about there.
So, and you're right. Some dumb people are betting right now that have swayed the odds in your favorite to look at those kind of deals. The only problem with that, like, what if they hadn't won the AFC West? And that guy had lost 100. Yeah. Well, that's going to watch in the stomach. Hence the word gambling. Hence the word gambling. Yeah. I mean, I, look, we do the picks during the season for fun between the two of us. And I make the disclaimer all the time. Don't listen to us. But I, I'm never going to be a gambling tout. I'm never going to be the guy that says, hey, here's your can't lose parlay or whatever. They call them like, I'm never going to do that because it's a recipe for disaster. If you listen to people who act like they know what they're talking about because at the end of the day, nobody knows. And if anybody was truly able to crack the code with sure fire winners, they ain't going to sit in front of a microphone and tell you they're going to be in Vegas playing those.
They're not, they're not going to share those. They're going to keep those and they're going to use those. And they're going to be ultimately floating around on a yacht next to Jerry Jones and all the other NFL owners that have yachts. If they truly know what they're doing, it's all about getting you riled up to go feed the machine. I mean, who sponsors the gambling touts? It's not a conglomerate of betters. That's for damn sure. I don't want to say too much, but I want to be real with the audience. Just ask yourself. Ask yourself who's paying that person to tell you what bet you should make. That's the only question. Say it out loud as Chris would say. Say it out loud. Or maybe is the case, maybe. Don't say it out loud. All right, we could take a break now. Chris is sitting there very quiet. Chris may have a deal cooking with him to be a gambling tout who knows. When we return. Max Grozby speaks for the first time since the Ravens and Raiders trade fell apart.
