About this episode
Does cowardice come naturally? A teacher took a fish out of its bowl and left a classroom of children as it flopped around. He told them that if “anyone left his seat he would be expelled.” All the children sat watching as the fish flopped and gasped for air. No child wanted to get up and help because they didn’t want to get in trouble. Finally a girl sprang up from her seat, grabbed the fish put it back in the bowl. She was the only one that refused to watch the fish die. The teacher returned to the class and said that “this was a lesson that the fear of getting in trouble should never stop you from doing what’s right. And sometimes you may have to oppose authority and group think, simply because it’s the right thing to do.
