We're going to hear from the manager himself Dave Roberts. A little explanation of why the lineup looks a little different today with Hostway De Pola getting the start in left field. We'll preview this pitchy matchup. David Vasegoes one on one with Dodgers assistant Chris Archery works in the front office.

3:06We got your Dodgers magical moment. We'll hear from Charlie Steiner shortly. Well, he got a splitter that didn't do much. It hung over the middle of the plate. And Mookie absolutely hammered it over the left field wall. It also is a big number for LA Dodgers.

4:09That is home run number 10,000 hit by a Los Angeles Dodger hitter. Milestone moment for Mookie Betts and the Dodgers that gave them a one nothing lead and immediately after that max Muncie with a back to back home run his 28th of this season as the Dodgers had a two nothing lead for Tyler Glass now who struggled with his command from the get go. He loaded the bases in the first got out of it. But in a second, he wasn't so fortunate after a walk glass now surrendered a two run home run to Grand Poly tying the game to the Miami Marlins in strung together a couple of singles. The third one from Otto Lopez was Lopez's RBI single giving the Marlins a three to lead. Miami added an important insurance run in the fifth Griffin Kona in Otto Lopez reached on walks Tyler Glass now at exit the game Jack drier came in RBI ground out that credited to glass now in the Marlins had a four to two lead the Dodgers offense after the first inning. It was like a shutdown. They struggle for a hits after that explosive first inning.

5:11The Dodgers were held hitless much of the game until late when the Miami bullpen came in and the Dodgers got on the board. They made it interesting in the ninth. To host way to Paula draw a walk with advanced a second to down for a hundred fiducian. Oh one pitch. There's a crown ball to the whole left side of base hit. The Paul is going to round third. He will come into score. An RBI base hit makes it a one run game. It's four to three. Hunter fiducian drives them in. Seventeenth run batted in. This carpet while it is manufactured it's not natural. Does play somewhat close to the speed of a regular field and we're going to find out I think the biggest thing is the sight lines did not take either neither team took banny practice today so he did not have a chance to go out and take some fly balls but going to be interesting. The other part about DePaulet so far Tim you and I have commented about this. He has appeared to be very relaxed at home plate. His selection of pitches that he has swung at have been good pitches and he is not been in a hurry to swing the bat which a lot of young players come up they feel so intimidated they swing it everything including the rosin bag it was thrown. He's over five in the big leagues but he has walked three times and those three at that's been pretty good and in a stolen base attempt he overslept it is tagged out

8:24and we would expect to see him run should he get on base. Yeah so the other changes in the line of Alex call will be in center heel. McGill Rojas will be at second base Alex Freeland will be at third base as Max Muncie will be at the designated hitter disappointment in yesterday's ball game because with two outs at the top of the first back to back home runs and Mookie Vance and Max Muncie you figure well it's going to be a cake walk it was anything but that and one run loss for this dodge of welcome. The Dodgers can clinch a postseason birth today with a win and they would need a loss by either San Diego or Arizona not both today as the season continues to wind down game number 149 13 left to play after today and the magic number to win the National League West remains at four due to the fact the Dodgers own the tiebreaker over San Diego. A 10 game lead over the Padres to start action today 90 and 58 the record the Marlins 15 back in the E 73 and 76 and they are seven and a half out of that final wild card spot

He is down today, Tommy Edmund is down today and that's kind of a similar one where Dave Robert and he spoke with the training staff and just decided that you know obviously they have some natural soreness on the back end of the season and it's not worth kind of pushing it a little extra especially when we're about to have four straights in Cincinnati and then they immediately go home to have another three before the next off day. Just finding ways to give guys a break but that does mean that Hostway DiPala is going to be playing in left field and when he was activated and made his major league debut there's been so much talk about how the bat is there but how much emphasis and work he's really been making on the defensive side so you know he's of course working closely with Dino

Today I know Tay Oscar and left you side to put Hoseway to Paula out there. What went to that decision and what do you want to see from Hoseway playing the field? Well, I think for me it's just the potential three days on the turf for Tayo. I wanted to kind of guard against that. And I think for Hoseway it's just good to get him out there. I think that obviously he's got two D H days and he's played obviously a lot of the corner outfields. And so I thought, you know, given Tommy a day which I thought was good for him being

Show, hey, O'Connor, any update on how he's doing over the last couple days? Yeah, O'Connor is still not swinging a bat just getting treatment on that right side, the right arm, the right neck. But Dave Roberts told us earlier today that he expects O'Connor to start swinging a bat by Tuesday. So I guess that's good news. But as I've said on Dodger, talk to him, the Dodgers have the NL West wrapped up. They have a four game lead on the braves for the number two seed. I don't see any reason why O'Connor should play until game one of the NLDS. David, you got your fantasy football on upset? Oh, yeah. Malik neighbors caused me some problems.

23:10So I avenged him for Jamison Williams. And by the way, a lot of the players they have their fantasy league. They are very much excited about, and there's some traits going on already before the first game is played. So yeah, fantasy football very top of mind. But realistically, the only race that Dodgers are intimately involved with now is for the top three records in the national league. The Braves, the Brewers and the Dodgers. The Dodgers trail Milwaukee by two and a half for best record. And they're two and a half in front of Atlanta. And Atlanta at this point would be the odd man out. And they in fact would be playing the wild card series against somebody. Those are Dodgers and Marlins at Dodgers for the record ten in front of San Diego. 11 and a half in front of Arizona. And this afternoon Emmett Sheen is going to go against Yuri Perez. First to look back at yesterday off to a great start with the Dodgers. Suddenly it's two zip in the first.

27:16But then they turn real cold real fast. Yeah, and unfortunately that happens. So they had their eight game winning streak. It was snapped last night still not bad winning eight of the last nine games. And I think overall, you know, you look at this ball club. It has picked up the pace from an offensive standpoint. Didn't happen yesterday. You thought it was going to explode because the third batter on the top of the first inning was Mookie Bence. The count was one and two. Then it moved to two balls and two strikes and then Mookie Bence unloaded hit the home run. Rather significant home run as far as LA Dodger history because that was number 10,000. And then not to be out done the very next batter. Max Muncie hit number 10,000 in one. You figure, oh my goodness, might be a cakewalk. Well, instead it was a soupy sales get a cake in your face. And for the Dodgers, they wind up losing by the score. You get the significance of mentioning a soupy sales because that was a program used to watch number of years ago. There was yet by I don't know how many thousand pies.

28:17But the Dodgers got hit with one last night as far as the loss. They clean the mess off their face. Max Muncie, he said 478. He's 11 for his last 23, three home runs five extra bass hits during a six game hitting streak in which he is involved. In his last 25 games and OPS of over a thousand. And so Muncie who was in the Dalperms for a bit has turned things around the last week or 10 days. And Mookie continues to hit pretty well. So the veterans down the stretch who have been down this road before have been able to pick up the pace. Yeah, Kyle Tucker, hitless in four bats last night. The night before, obviously, it was Red Hot hit the Grand Slam which with bases loaded and scurries hit 405. Just kind of matching on that end of it. Three hits in a sacrifice fly on Friday night. The other thing that we're noticing, Charlie, is that Dave Roberts, yes, we've got the opportunity. As you mentioned, the magic number is forward now to clinch the Western Division.

29:17But for Dave Roberts, going to moving that lineup around the batting order around and it gets moved around again this afternoon or in the afternoon as far as the East Coast because Osweip Depala is going to start not only as we've seen him that designated hitter each the last two games, not the D.H. today. He's going to be in left field. So it gets a chance to see him from a defensive standpoint. And the other thing we have seen against just a couple of days in, but we've seen his numbers and seen highlights here and there over the season. Depala, as we saw yesterday, he can run with the best of him. Certainly he can work in that bat with the best of him. He continues to be a very interesting study. Yeah, when you say working in a bat, one of the areas that he's really improved upon talked about each of the first two games that he's played, it's been the designated hitter. From what we see and what we see with the numbers, he has narrowed it down. The strike zone, not chasing as many pitches as maybe he did last year and also making better

30:22contact, but still all along. I mean, this is, you talk about learning curve. I mean, he was two years under the average age for double A players and he's only 21 and here he is at the big league level. So yeah, this is a big challenge for the youngster. He runs real fast, but has a real slow heartbeat. Well, and you need to have that because he knows all eyes are upon him and it's a quick turnaround. It's leaps and bounds. I mean, going from double A to the major league level, that is absolutely huge because you're missing one big step that being triple A where the consistency of the pitching that you see is a little bit better than what you see on a daily basis and in double A, not to diminish their ability at that level, but it's more refined up here than what he's ever seen. Being able to read a room and not always share input, but be prepared when someone asks you for something. I've tried to do my best at being available, being around, showing that I'm willing to roll

34:33up my sleeves and put the work in and yeah, to have the respect from people in this group, it means a lot to me. Being a former player, when you're playing, you're only thinking about the day to day, how you're going to win the next day. In this position, being a bigger picture type of organizational piece, what have you learned the most about this side of it? I think patience is probably one of the biggest things that you can possess and the willingness to listen. I think when you are a player, you want to see things happen fast, especially when you're in the big leagues, you have a tough start, you want to make the change immediately for the next start. I feel like you also want to express your opinion more frequently. So, being on the staff now and being in player development, seeing guys from the Dominican, even to the African Academy, we have to build systems that allow us to see incremental

35:38growth over a long period of time, rather than the immediate satisfaction of success that we're all looking for when we're here at the big league level. When you're evaluating players, there's that balance of the eye test and the analytics. How do you balance that when you're putting your eyes on somebody? It's something that I'm still learning. I spend a lot of time with our analytic group, whether it be in LA or Arizona, with the pitching staff, pitching group down there. But I think it has to be a healthy blend. I don't want to put a percentage on it, but it has to be a healthy blend and it's something I've taken a lot of responsibility in learning because it is such a big part of the game now. Chris, your former manager, Joe Madden, who was with Andrew Friedman in Tampa Bay, said recently that Andrew is one of the best scouts, eye test scouts out there. Have you seen that from him as well? Is that something that people don't really know about him?

36:39They just kind of put him in the bucket of looking at the analytics? Yeah, I think Andrew has spent a lot of time watching young players, seeing how their bodies move, checking in on their makeup, understanding what works and what doesn't work at the highest level. And yeah, he's a great evaluator. I mean, between Tampa and the Dodgers, the player acquisition has been elite. So the player development's been elite, the player acquisition's been elite, and then winning on the margins has been elite as well. So it's been really fun to watch his growth. I've known him for 15 or so years now. And again, I'm happy to be a part of a group that he's in charge of. Value evaluator himself. Chris Sartre is our guest, part of Andrew Friedman's baseball operations department. You've been in the minor leagues a lot. We're looking at Hoseway DePaula. What can you tell us about what you saw from this young man at AA Tulsa to give him this

37:43opportunity? He loves to play the game, and he can really slow the game down, especially in the box. And he has a great understanding of the strike zone. And he's still very young, and he's grown into his body, but he's showing a lot of power this year. It's just kind of like a perfect blend of what you want at the plate for a young hitter. Do you believe he understands that defense does matter? I know he's the DH, but do you feel like this year has been a big step forward in that respect? Oh, yeah. Look, like no player is going to be 20 years old and be a complete package from a skill set. But we do admire how much work and energy and effort he's put into the defensive side of the ball. So to answer your question, yes, he knows the importance and he's making strides. He's making those incremental strides on a daily basis. And what you saw last night sounds like what you were describing. The game didn't get too fast on him, even at this level. Yeah, I mean, he had great at bats yesterday.

38:46He did show his speed. Yeah, he put up a few great at bats. Did there result in a hit? No, not yet, but you can kind of see it come and he stayed inside the strike zone with the swings and didn't swing a ball. Chris, thanks a lot for the time. Last time out EOD Perez, four and he's five runs, seven hits, five strikeouts and a loss to the New York meds. And his lone start against the Dodgers during his rookie year in 2023. He faced just two over the minimum. And six scoreless innings, a work surrounding just two hits while striking out 10. It was part of a Dodgers three to one win out at Dodgers stadium. Emmett Sheen on the mound for the Dodgers, five and eight with a 508 ERA. 26 year old right-hander in his fourth season now in the big leagues. And finally been healthy all of this season. But he's had it up and down year literally up and down from AAA, up and down as far as results are concerned, making his 20th second start this season.

41:50His second since coming back from AAA Oklahoma City where he made four starts, was really good, was named the PCL picture of the month. The Dodgers recalled them last time out five and two third innings, one run, three hits, 10 strikeouts. And a win over the Cincinnati Reds. He gave an early run but then settled in and pitched really good. Emmett Sheen has never faced the Marlins in his major league career. A victory today would match his career high in wins with six. And also get the Dodgers magic number down, which is currently at four. They clinched the division for the 13th time in the last 14 seasons. Emmett Sheen, Yori Perez, Dodgers, Marlins. And we'll see where the chips fall at the end of the day before the Dodgers get on the plane and head to Cincinnati to begin a four game series with the Reds tomorrow.
