3:15David Vase, live at Uniclo Field at Dodger Stadium after Teosca Hernandez and the Dodgers get the walk-off win. Three to two over the St. Louis Cardinals, a much needed win for the Dodgers because that would have been an ugly clubhouse. And this would have been an ugly show if the Dodgers did not win tonight because first two games of this series did not go as planned. The Dodgers did not execute, did not drive in the runs, did not pitch as well as they should have in the first two games. And tonight, on a night that Tarek Skoolball gave up a career high 10 hits in five and two-thirds innings. The bullpen was able to keep the game right where it was, did not give up a run. And the Dodger offense in the bottom of the ninth inning created something, created more traffic. And this time Teosca Hernandez was able to deliver the win after Tommy Edmund had a one-out single-stool second.

4:15Mookie Beds, a big walk and Mookie, we had a great conversation with him before the game. We're going to share that with you before we say goodnight. But Mookie had a big walk to set up Teosca Hernandez who drove in those two runners and Mookie scored all the way from first space. That was a big win for the Dodgers because again tonight, so many opportunities to be able to put this game away early and they did not, they were not able to do it like last night. They should have been up six or seven runs last night by the sixth inning. Instead, they were clinging to a two-run lead in the seventh inning that evaporated. So tonight, right away, bottom of the first inning against the guy named Quinn Matthews, he's a big leager. But with an ERA closer to sixth than to three. And the Dodgers had him on the ropes in the first inning, two on, and they didn't get any runs. Then in the third inning, bases loaded, did not get any runs.

5:18They had two on one out in that third inning and Freddie Freeman flew out to left field. Bottom of the fourth inning, or excuse me, bottom of the eighth inning, bases loaded two outs. Dalton rushing, trying to do too much, trying to hit a grand slam instead of just getting a base hit, strikes out to end the inning. And in the bottom of the fourth inning, I mean, I would have gone in on this if the Dodgers lost, but that was not a good look by Kyle Tucker, not running on a drop strike three. I mean, that was certainly not a good look, but luckily for him and the Dodgers, they win, and that's all that matters because at this point in time in the season, I know the Dodgers are going to win the NL West. That's a foregone conclusion, but we keep talking about getting the highest seed possible. So you don't have to play a wildcard game, and I got news for you. This year, there is no Cincinnati Reds under 500 wildcard team.

6:20The Dodgers would have basically a playoff scrimmage against. You're going to play either the Padres or the Diamondbacks in a wildcard series. And that's not the Reds from a year ago. So that's the biggest difference. But last night, there were a couple of people. I remember one in particular that tried to pile on Teosca Hernandez. And I told him the pump the brakes right there. You cannot go after Teosca Hernandez. That guy, even though he may not have the results for a lot of this year, you can tell he cares. You could tell that he's upset, and there is some sort of, you know, demand of himself and professional pride of himself to go out there and perform. And before he heard his hamstring, he was sitting 320. But right now, it seems like he has just decided to go back out there, compete and beat Teosca Hernandez. And whatever happened, he cannot change.

7:21All he can do is try to help this team win three in a row. And he's been a big part of the first two. 866-987-2570 is the phone number. If the Dodgers lost a night, I would walk home and then walk back to Dodger Stadium. So I feel like the books are even, but I may still, you know, try to walk maybe the last mile to Monties and Woodland Hills. How about that? Let's go out to Long Beach, Greg. You're on Dodger Talk. How you doing, Greg? D.V. feeling you, baby, as our boy with a Dodger little band, but they will not break. How you doing, B.V.? I want to know if your call would feel this way. Would you have this type of enthusiasm and optimistic, Vic DeBrick outlook?

8:26If the Dodgers lost that game two to one. Of course, the little adversity does as well. But we're just gearing up. The boys are getting in motion, getting our sites in order for playoffs. It's okay. We're, we got everything handled. The boys are in tax. We're feeling it, but we got the, we got the win tonight. Only six hits. Only two guys getting our hits tonight. Tommy tanks four for five, they owe two for three. The rest of the boys over 23 tonight, but that's a, it doesn't matter. We got it. We got it done. What we needed to do it. The boys are handling it. Teo bringing the energy, bringing the joy, bringing the sunflower seeds. Huge, huge catalyst for the, for the boys tonight. Yeah, great point. I mean, those were the two guys that only had the six hits. You know, you look at that box score. It kind of hits you in the face. I was sobering right there, Greg. No doubt. Thank you for the phone call. Tommy Edmond. I am such a big fan. I think I've said this a few times. In fact, I know I've said this a few times this year. Obviously, Shohei Otoni is the greatest player on the planet. But my two favorite players to watch are Freddie Freeman and Tommy Edmond. Tommy Edmond.

9:34He's healthy like this is one of the funnest baseball players to watch play because he plays the game in a way that there's a lot of action. He puts the ball in play. He makes great defensive plays at second base and center field. And tonight, you know, I think the best compliment you could give a guy like Tommy Edmond is that he's a winning player. And tonight he showed it again tonight for hits in the lead off spot started in center field stole a big base in the ninth inning doing what was needed to win that game. And I think that's the best thing you could say to describe Tommy Edmond. He's a winning player. He may not get the shine that Otoni does or Mookie or Freddie. But he's a winning player and a vital part of this team. And I know we've talked about this a few times to me. He's a he's a top of the lineup type of hitter lead off hitting second, even possibly hitting, you know, ninth as a second lead off hitter.

10:34But the versatility of Tommy Edmond is not about where he plays in the field. It's the versatility that he hits in the lineup, wherever Dave Roberts wants him to hit. And he told us earlier this year, part of the reason why he's able to do all that is because he doesn't change who he is where he's sitting in the order. And that came to light again tonight for hits. He scored two runs and certainly was a spark plug tonight. Let's go out to Utah. Heather, you're on Dodger talk with David Vassay. Hi Heather. Dave, great to hear your voice. How are you? I'm doing much better after that ninth inning. I this game was con with this game was ugly for the first eight innings. There's no way to get around that. But the ninth inning that he kind of felt like the Dodgers had had enough and Riley O'Brien's a very human closer. I agree. And I got to say I've been wanting to call in for a little bit with just the way things have been going. But tonight my 12 year old that we actually just got back from Cooper's town last week with him.

11:38And he loves baseball and he said, Mom, we've got to get out. It smells like a daughter win candle. We have the little candle that we got out every really big game last year. And the year before. So it's been a two year tradition. We went back to back and he got it out. And this game felt like a must win. And we got the candle out. We put it up. And I'm sorry, it might be a little cheesy, but it was the cutest thing. And I just could feel once Mookie took that walk. I thought this is Teo's moment. He is Mr. Clutch. He's going to come through for us. And he sure did and got to give so much love to Tommy. I meant these players are incredible. And like I said, we just got back from Cooper's town. And it was amazing to go see the Hall of Fame and see so many Dodgers players there. And these many of these players will be in the Hall of Fame and these kids look up to them. We look up to them. They are human, but they are incredible. And so we got to remember that the Dodgers are the Dodgers. Hopefully this three feet happens. We got to believe that we got to keep cheering for him. Well, I don't think it's horrible. I think at times there are balls that he can't get to that maybe other left fielders might be able to get to, but in the ninth inning, he made a really good catch to end that inning. He was on the warning track going up against the wall, and then in the ninth inning in his at bat,

18:53that count against Riley O'Brien very easily could have been 3-0. But this ABS system has been really good, and I think it's proven how good the umpires are, and Jim Wolfe, my guy from El Camino, was behind the plate tonight. One of the best umpires out there. Don't ask me, ask the players, they're the ones that told me, but nonetheless, there was a pitch that Teosca challenged, and the ball, I mean, the thread, the red thread of the baseball in digital view, barely, barely touched the top outside corner in the upper quadrant. To me, I think baseball really has to reexamine what is a strike in the ABS zone. It's got to be more than just a millimeter of the digital baseball clipping the strike zone. I would love to see whatever it would be, but I'm not going to say half of the baseball, but come on.

19:54Give me at least five inches, maybe two inches, how about two inches? Give me two inches of touching the strike zone. I don't know, but that was ridiculous. That was a ball. That was up and away. Anyway, you dice it. And luckily for Teosca, he was able to keep his composure in that situation, and not let that, you know, what we all saw on SportsNet LA and here at Dodger Stadium, don't let that, you know, obviously ruined the at bat, got to a full count, and he got the pitch that he wanted. Let's go out to Torrance, Kate, you're on Dodger Talk. How you doing, Kate? Great. I'm fabulous. It's great to see the Dodgers be Dodgers doing enough to win. He would have just barely enough. And I think Tommy Edmond is a good lead off hitter. I don't want show Hey back until show Hey feel 100% if we've got guys they can step up like Tommy Edmond.

20:58Yeah, no doubt. I mean, the Dodgers are a very talented roster, even without show Hey O'Tani, but with him, they have this air of confidence and I'm not going to say air against, but they have this air of confidence. When he said his best, that, that you feel in that dugout, but tonight it was great to see them win a game like that without show Hey O'Tani. And it just proves that yes, he is the best player on the planet. Yes, they need him to be that guy at the top of the order, but they got other guys that can play this game. And one guy in baseball, I guess he could carry you for a period of time, but you need the rest of the team. This is the ultimate team sport. And I feel like especially this year, there's been too much emphasis on show Hey O'Tani, because I know him and Freddie Freeman and Max Muncie and Pa has been the four best hitters, but the Dodgers now are getting Will Smith back. Tom Edmond has come back.

21:59There's some other really good players on this team and it's going to take all of them. O'Tani can't do it all. And if you look at the postseason last year, he had that big game for the NLCS, but outside of that, you know, these other guys had huge impacts on them winning the World Series. Tonight's game brought to you by Modelo, Modelo, the mark of a fighter. Speaking of show Hey O'Tani, we said it last night, we said it five nights ago, he just didn't look right physically. You don't go into the type of slump that O'Tani's in in his last 40-something at bat, striking out 19 times, having only five hits without any home runs, without there being something wrong physically. And I've learned this over the years and I've shared this with you and I've said this over the course of the last week. Great players don't all of a sudden stop being great unless there is something physically hampering them. Or there's some extenuating huge personal circumstances, which is not the case with show Hey O'Tani. It's physical.

23:03We saw him shaking out his right arm, Dave Roberts saw Andrew Friedman saw it. We all saw it. So it was a good thing that Dave Roberts text him last night. Hey, you're sitting today and all O'Tani replied with was the respect emoji. And it looked like O'Tani, you know, had a bigger smile on his face in that dugout than we've seen in quite some time. I wouldn't be opposed to him sitting tomorrow night as well until he gets that right neck, right elbow issue to a point where he feels good about it. And am I saying that the IEL is out of the question. Dave Roberts said it's not off the table. And Brandon Goams earlier today talked about, you know, O'Tani's personal wishes compared to what the team needs from him. I mean, I think it's gets back to having the conversations of, hey, what makes sense here? Any show Hey O'Tani's are really valuable. But if it comes out of cost, then you make that decision.

24:04So we still have some time. We still, you know, can continue to see how he bounces back and throws. And if that is something that doesn't make sense and we want to make a decision on where the other we will, I just today is not, you know, a day or indicative of anything to make a decision on that. Show Hey's great. Any conversations where he understands like this is a balance and, you know, always putting the team first. And I think all of our interests are aligned of trying to set him up, which then sets the team up to be as successful as possible. So, now I'm not, I don't think there's anything to be said of like what it'll look like moving forward as of today. That's the pitching side. And look, the Dodgers are not going to close the door on that because if O'Tani at some point in time can get his left knee feeling good and his right arm now and his right neck feeling good, which is a long shot. They're not going to close the door on it and being an absolute absolutely not. O'Tani's not going to pitch in October because if he can give them six outs, nine outs and maybe an 18 inning game in the World Series,

25:17they're not going to close the door on that. So that's that part of the equation. But for me, everybody understands that now the physical issues are hampering him offensively. And that's why he got the day off today. And like I said, okay, they they haven't made the decision on the I L. But I would say tomorrow, why not sit him back to back days and haven't come back on Saturday. I don't think that is too out of this world to consider. And for O'Tani, the greatest player on the planet obviously has the weight of a country on his back. And since a young child has had high expectations for himself, his family, the country of Japan. Look, it's got to be really hard for him to not have his body cooperating with him over the course of the last couple of months. So all of those things are in play. And that's why I felt like tonight. It was great to see him smile at the far end of the dugout. It was great to see him hang around for the entire game and go out there and celebrate with the team after Teosca Hernandez walks it off for the Dodgers tonight. 3 to 2.

All they needed was a hit to the gap, and that's where Tiasco Hernandez hit it, as the Dodgers walk it off against the Cardinals, three to two tonight, and avoid being swept by St. Louis. Alright Jose Molda, the tone of the show would have been a lot different if that ninth inning doesn't happen. What did you see from the game tonight? The first eight innings? It was not the same game that we saw on the ninth. It was not for sure what I liked the most, the fact that Tariq Scubo

33:38having been hit hard. He got hit really hard. A lot of balls he talked about the Cardinals and singles and battle to strikes. The bullpen. We got to give it to them too. Scubo's out there just hold them to two runs. But give the guys out of the bullpen. A lot of credit for what happened today, because as an offense Dave, all you ask for is if you're scuffling so much, you can allow that deficit to not get longer, because two runs feels like five and then four runs feels like ten. It gets a little harder. We start trying more and more with the bats. A lot of good things we consider that Tommy Edman without Show Hill, Tony does a fine job as he's describing so perfectly. Dave, he just plays his game. That's why he's so valuable. And that's why they've wanted him for many years when he was a Cardinal. But it's good to see Tommy has made no suggestions with the bat, leading with a bottom hand again when he gets a little pull happy or top hand happy. He gets a little bit of trouble. But I like the execution today. Making the plays where they needed to keep in the Cardinals at bay. It could have been worse a little basically got,

34:39but they're able to at least hold them down and have one big hit. That's all they needed. So Dave, one thing is that we're not talking about the one for nine today, because the one for nine was a big one for nine when the score in position. Yeah, and that was that one by Teosca Hernandez in the ninth inning tonight. I mean, I mentioned the third inning, the bases loaded. Same thing in the first inning. They had two on. They didn't score eighth inning bases loaded two outs rushing trying to do way too much in that at bat. At some point, how much did that ninth inning win help take the pressure off a lot of bad feelings going back to that dugout tonight? A lot of there's a lot of things that don't come to mind anymore because you won the ball game. I don't think there's anything called an ugly win, but that was a win that you needed to have and not have a sweep out of the Cardinals. One thing too is, let me talk about rushing. Obviously for a guy that's going to be playing a different role, I think the understanding has to be that. Talk to experienced guys in that role to say, hey, man, you know what?

35:41A lot of times you're going to get one pitch. Your timing is not going to be there because you're not, you don't have to continue that bass and your rhythm and your eyes are not trained. But go out there and try to do a little bit less. He's strong enough for the 470 plus, you know, slugging that he can just put the ball employee and be more productive. He needs to get bass. We don't know how he's going to get him, but there's a role that he's got to embrace and understand, but you know, it's a bad. There's been need it. It's been missing about him in the order of no doubt about it, but now limited with his arm. We don't know what will happen with him, you know, going forward, but they need that bad to be alive. And the other thing too is when things are not going your way and you're not making enough hard content, just keep believing. I think I saw the attitude from the dugout, the energy just saying, hey, you know what? If you're that close at some point, there's way too much challenge. It's going to happen. They kept believing the fans kept believing and they put together some pretty good at basement they needed to just dog your style and not depending on the home run, but be and more in tune with just taking your walks and allowing the nextack go up and do their job. It could be a nice turnaround from that game.

36:42Jose Mota is joining us after the Dodgers beat the Cardinals tonight, three to two without show, hey, Otoni and the starting lineup who had been struggling is worse slump with the Dodgers. Jose, where do you see this going? Do you believe that maybe another game off could benefit Otoni? What do you see the course of action to try to get Otoni as close to physically right to help them offensively? I think at this time, rest is your best option and going out there and just lay to him know where the plan is and I said many times that Otoni have to just, you know, guard Otoni from Otoni. That's the bottom line no matter what he wants to be out there, but there's no player in baseball has ever had this much demand on his body ever. And on top of that, there's been no manager that has to deal with how to manage this guy. This is a freak here. I mean, how do I manage this? They've harvested the initiative saying, you know what, you need to do some time off. I would hope that just as he's being honest about how he feels.

37:42Number one, Dodgers have such a great evaluation in terms of your body and biometrics and all that with the training staff and the medical staff. And I think another day wouldn't be bad. And if they, you know, play a little bit better, I think you give him another day. And why not? I mean his body can only benefit from rest. You don't want him to get rusty either, but it's not something has a face before when he's with the angels. He couldn't pitch when he pitch. You couldn't hit for three, three times a week. So he's faced it before he's been mentally tough enough to handle it. And at this point with 22 to go, yeah, plenty of room to go out there and break it down. Make sure he goes enough reps. So his timing is on, but also enough rest so he can actually work on a couple of things here and there. What do you think is ailing him the most, preventing him from being the hitter that we know he is? From what I saw yesterday in that swing, I think is the biceps. I really do. And you go back and listen to the Roberts one. This biceps thing came up with those Shawnee, Otani actually brought it up in a post game interview. And Dave Roberts talked about the finish and you can see the hesitation sometimes and repeating a good swing in letting it go and extending and it's old indication about not feeling comfortable.

38:51He's not extending it. His knee, the way he's running and the way he wants to run out of things, the biggest issue in terms of the hitting part of it. But as him, I mentioned to you last night when he said surgery before, it seems like it takes him a little bit of time from getting from where it's going to hurt to extending to exploring through the zone. And times seems like he's taking so many hitable pitches and also missing so many hitable pitches that to me, I think the upper body is the biggest issue for him right now. Alright, Jose, thanks for the insight. We'll see you tomorrow, the Dodgers and Nationals. We all know the Nationals can score, but they also give up a lot of runs. So we'll see how it goes in these three games. Yeah, keep telling running the way he's doing right now. 40:03Rocky Sasaki's on the IL. The Dodgers are in the middle of a nine game homestead without a day off. So it's likely going to be Emmett Sheen on Saturday, who was just named the PCL picture of the month. So Emmett did not go down there and saw he went down there and got better in four starts. She and had a 150 ERA with 24 strikeouts. So look for Emmett Sheen this weekend against the Nationals. And certainly a big series for the Dodgers to get, you know, at least two wins because the Braves are going to be in Philadelphia for a wrap around four game series. And right now the Dodgers and Braves have identical records, but the Braves have the tiebreaker. So the Dodgers need to finish a game ahead of Atlanta at the end of the regular season to get a higher seed. And of course, we're all looking at that number two seed, which would be so beneficial to this Dodger ball club. Alright, before the game today, I had a chance to catch up with Mookie Betts wanted to share some of that conversation with you because it was a good, honest conversation about where his season was, where it is right now.

41:15And I let them know right away about my bold prediction of the Dodgers winning last night. Unfortunately, they gave it up and so many of you want me to walk home now. Of course, thanks for things we're having. It's always good coming on and talking to you. I just got to put this on the table right now. I guaranteed a win last night and I told the fans if you lost, I was going to walk home. So fans were all over me last night to walk home from here to the San Fernando Valley last night. Did you walk from the curb to my front door? Okay, so what curb like the curb in front of your house to the front door? So you didn't walk all the way up. I guess you did walk home, but it wasn't from here. Maybe I'll start on Ventura Boulevard around to Penga Canyon and walk home from there. So you think I should take that walk a shame? I think if you put it out there, then yeah, you got to stick to your word for sure. How many miles do I have to, because I look at Google mapped it, it was 12 hours from Dodger Stadium to my house.

42:18No, I think I think I think a nice 20, 20, 30 minute walk will be suffice. It's a shit suffice. Yeah, two of 12 hours is way too far. I was midnight too, Mookie. You know, the streets are dangerous of Whittlin Hills. You would have, by the time you got home, you would have to come turn and come back here. No, you can't do that. You can't do that. Mookie, it feels like something's changed with you. You know, obviously hits are going to come and go, but you've been hitting the ball hard all year long. And it just feels like, I don't know, there just seems to be a different spirit about you the last few weeks. Am I reading that right? Yeah, I think so. You know, it's, you know, kind of tweaking and making some changes, but, you know, I'm just kind of, I'm really just kind of proud of myself just for continuing to keep going. I could have easily, anybody really just could easily, you know, just kind of cash it in and said, you know, it is what it is, but, you know, I'm really proud of myself for just keeping going, keeping trying to figure things out, keeping, keeping my mindset of helping the boys.

43:23And, you know, we've gotten, of course, we've gotten some hits to fall here recently, but it's not really about the hits as much as just about just the mindset of just putting your head down and keeping, keep going. I mean, and the rest will be, you know, whatever. Again, last year, it seemed like you got down on yourself. It never felt this year that you got super down on yourself and you kept your confidence level at a certain point. How did you do that? Who did you lean on? I mean, I think just for my experience, really. You know, going through it. It wasn't the first time. So being that it was another time. I feel like I give myself another chance to choose a different perspective. That's all a choice, right? You know, last year, I chose to be down on myself instead of choosing to fight through and just try and create a new perspective. And so going through this year, I felt like I made a decision and changing my perspective on it. And, you know, really just the guys, the guys kind of really just kind of stayed in my corner.

44:29Last year, but, you know, just I just made the wrong, wrong choice. And so the guys have stuck by me the whole time. And I think it was mostly just a personal decision of, of to keep going. Love it. We always have that decision. Sometimes a little harder to pick ourselves up, but you got to find it. And Mookie Bet certainly has. And you have the unique perspective of talking to so many guys on other teams. You have your on-base podcast that you talk to players on other teams. What is the feedback you get from other players when they play the Dodgers? Are they admitting to you that they're giving you the best shot they have out of everybody? We don't really talk about that a whole lot, but I think it's I think it's I would assume. Yeah, I mean, that's definitely it. I mean, I would say, you know, us the Yankees, Padres, you know, teams that are have names, I would say you could probably go. It's probably look up stats.

45:29I mean, guys come in and automatically are three, four mile, four hour harder with fastballs and really everything. I mean, you can see passion when they're when they're hit homeers and one of the ball games, which is nothing personal or anything. You can just see it, which is totally understandable and we just have to match that energy. You've had the biggest names on your podcast from Aaron Judge to Fernando Tatis. He had Mickey Rowe recently. Is there a bucket list player that you want on the podcast that you haven't talked to yet? I'm available. I don't I'm not a player. I'm a player. Room 112. You have to find me where the players dwell. Oh my gosh. No, I feel like most of the guys that I wanted to get Bryce's Bryce Harper was a lot really wanted to get night was able to get him this year. Ferlander was on there. You know, probably some I like Garry Cole.

46:31There are probably some of the some of the guys that I played against for 10 plus years or probably guys. You know, a lot of the new guys coming up. I don't really know them and you know, they have their place in their time. But I'll probably get them at some point. But like you said, dream, dream guys will be guys probably been playing against for a long time. I've never really gotten to speak to. I had had Ferlander when we were in Detroit. And you know, I never got never gotten to talk to him. I shared a locker room with him a couple of times just in a hall store games. But you don't really get to talk much much there. So that was really the first time I actually got to really have a real conversation with him and get to know him. And you know, he's awesome dude. And so I'd like to meet some of the other guys that have been playing against you know, for my whole career. I love hearing that. And I could sit here. The sound in your voice that you truly are genuinely excited to talk to some of these guys in the Harper interview. There were so many good things that came out that we didn't know about either one of you. I know it's about them. But we find out about you too. Yeah, I mean, that's really that's really kind of what it is. I mean, you know, just getting to know guys and getting to know the players.

47:34And because you don't we really don't have that kind of outlet, you know, we're playing constantly and then you know, the media will run the media. We're answering questions and about the game and negative or positive, whatever. You just never really get to know who who's taking the field, who the guy is. And so that's the point of the podcast.
