We don't have any tip line this week, but maybe sometime before the draft. He says, guys, I'm just wondering. Why how the Vikings frame their quarterback situation matters so much to you. Of course, Kyler is here to start. Of course, the wence signing has at least something to do with not being sure exactly how good McCarthy is, but the Vikings coming out and saying anything

6:03close to those things would be insane and incompetent. Even if you've lost faith in McCarthy, you don't publicly say you've lost faith in McCarthy. Thanks for the daily entertainment, you guys. But essentially, he's wondering why doesn't matter so much. Why is it so important to us to get to the bottom of what the Vikings really are doing in that quarterback? Well, I think it's important because they are, they are saying like I agree with all of his points, but they are saying there's going to be a competition to which I then say, how are you going to do that? I have questions about that. They are saying that, like they are literally trying to tell you this is going to be a quarterback free for all. A quarterback, a fryfest. It's just going to be everybody getting involved. And it's like, there's only X amount of snaps to go around. So I don't expect them to say that McCarthy, like we're done with McCarthy. I've always wondered why you couldn't say we've signed Kyler to start.

7:03Like, unless JJ McCarthy, unless they're literally just going to shortchange the entire system and have these guys split the first team reps, which would be Asinine as far as trying to prepare yourself. I've never understood the like, okay, we're going to tell you something. And you all know it's BS, but we're going to tell you anyway. So I agree with all his points about, yes, common sense. And there are some things the team is not going to say, I have never gotten the one about JJ McCarthy is going to compete. How is he going to then tell me, tell me exactly what you're going to do, Kevin. How are you going to split up the reps? How is this going to work? So I'm not just going to sit here and just accept them sports lying, which is what they're doing. I'm going to push it and say, let's talk about what they are doing and how it's going to make sense. And to be clear, I have a couple of takes on this too, but are you when you poke at the sports lying? Because this is a, of course, I mean, Kevin O'Connell literally told the assembled media in like January

8:09when you asked him about or whenever it was like, I think it was your question. We talked about this two weeks ago about, you know, the messaging halfway through the season. And you kind of went away from like the mechanic stuff and just told him to play. And Kevin said, well, the things that I say at this podium in this setting may not reflect exactly what's being talked about behind the scenes. Okay, so he's clearing time. I get up here and spin a certain narrative so that, you know, you guys can go run along. But then behind the scenes, it might be a little messier or different than we're portraying it. And my question to you. So we know that to be the case across all sports. I mean, Bill Bella check. Either didn't give information or lied for 20 years, right? Like, are you trying to get the Vikings to be more truthful? Or are you just trying to get to the truth for the purposes of this show and the audience? Like, like, are you mad that they don't tell the truth? Or are you just like, yeah, of course, they're not telling the truth. Let's talk about what they're actually saying in our opinion.

9:11The second one to me, the latter is the most important. Like, let's talk about what they're going. Like this, this show. Kevin O'Connor, man. I love that. I'm not saying that. And just to be clear, we call it and have since the radio show days sports lying, because it doesn't make you like a bad person. I feel like if I just say Kevin O'Connor's a liar, that like paints him as a bad guy. Sports lying is what they do. You're right. So just to be clear. But I think that the latter is the most important thing, which is. I think as a show that does daily Vikings content every day of the year trying to get to the bottom. Through this show of what they're going to do to me is interesting. Now, do I think it's a waste of their time to try to paint that there's going to be a competition for the starting job. Unless they're going to spell it out. Yeah, I think it's a waste of their time. But more importantly, I think it's a good use of hard time to talk about how it's going to shake out. At the most important position in sports.

10:12Judd is on Jupiter. Jupiter's not bad, right? Is it? Is it hot on Jupiter? Freezing. Freezing. Freezing. So like a dome. Like if we expand. You'd be. You'd be. The National Park. The NFL will eventually expand there and they'll probably have a dome there. It's not as cold as Pluto. But it is. We talked about a while back. Actually, you know what? I mean, it's cold. It's cold. But is it manageable? Jupiter has no true solid surface. But the temperature at the top of the ammonia cloud deck, the circle at the surface level of Jupiter, is about minus 166 degrees Fahrenheit. Dead where you stood. Yeah, you wouldn't make it through that. Because like you couldn't tailgate for sure. Yeah. Well, you wouldn't hang out outside. Yeah. So yeah, Judd being on Jupiter. Another planet discussion here on purple daily. Hey, we don't bring it up. That's fine.

11:12So I think like what dad says here, of course, Kyler is here to start. Of course, the went signing has at least something to do with not being sure about how good McCarthy is. I agree. To me, those are those are facts. I think he is speaking facts. But like to me, the interesting conundrum is a lot of fans and reporters don't believe those things to be true. And that's where the debate about what are they going to do sort of lies. The Vikings aren't going to come out until until you see the actual snap counts and the depth chart throughout the offseason workouts. We're not really going to know. And that brings me to Stru Mixi here in the purple daily YouTube comments. Hit that subscribe button if you are new here. Welcome in. You hit that subscribe button. And then we will give you daily Vikings podcast. That's how the interaction works. So Stru Mixi says, why are you guys making things out of nothing all the time? I used to love this show, but these days you make declarative statements about your opinions.

12:14Like when sports dad says you can't have a quarterback competition and states that like it's an actual fact. We have seen quarterback competitions in the NFL many times. I'm only a couple of years younger than Judd and I've seen countless training camp quarterback battles in my day. This is the problem I have. I understand wanting to engage listeners and click farming. Click farming farming. We've got to click baby to click farming not to well in farms. But what turns me off is your constant insistence that there is no battle. And this whole thing is just a charade. It feels dismissive and a bit arrogant. OK, so this is perfect because this gentleman is 54 or so. We have seen training camp battles for the quarterback position. We have. We've seen a lot of them because we're old when training camp used to be totally different. This is the thing. Training camps changed. There are, you know, back in Mankato and the day you could get away with this.

13:16You had two days at one point. I could throw them. And by the way, at that point, I didn't care of guys. Nobody really cared if the majority of guys got hurt. Like if it happened, it was unfortunate. But my God and thankfully because there have been unfortunately tragedies, training camp has been streamlined. It's been improved. It's a better human experience now. But that being said, there's, there's less time. And so this is where you can't have a competition. Now, do you want to watch McCarthy? And suddenly he's playing great with the second team. And you're going to essentially give him some of Kyler's reps. That would be possible. But the thing is you are getting a veteran QB here who by, you know, just to be clear, Kevin O'Connell, his resume, his work says I do a really good job. With veteran QBs into a system that takes a lot of work. And Kyler Murray, what you're telling me is if you want to have a competition, you are going to stunt Kyler Murray's growth by doing so. I do not believe that.

14:16I don't believe that for one second. As Logan Green points out, that's great. Everything you said sounds great. Still just your opinion. It's just my opinion based on the amount of snaps though. That's the thing. Just your opinion. Just the amount, just your opinion, man. That's got a beverage here, man. Well, anyway, if O'Connell wants to stunt Kyler's growth and have a competition and pay for it early in the season because Kyler struggles, that's up to him. But there are, I can tell you as a guy that stands where I won't stand for this, for this questioning is I stand out in that heat in those practices. And I see how the snaps go. And I can tell you right now, there aren't enough, and actually Phil has two. There aren't enough snaps to go around now, first team wise. Well, I mean, the first time you and I ever stood by each other during any Vikings practices was 20 years ago. And I, yeah, and even like before that, the practices sounds like even more grueling. But you're right.

15:16Like there would be, there would be a morning session for like two hours. And they would sometimes full pads for both these. And then you'd go inside. They'd go into meetings. You know, the media would do like little morning updates and blogs, whatever, have some Jimmy John's. And then you'd go back out there for like two more hours. And so like in any given training camp practice or even like OTA or many camp practice, when Judd's camp notes is charting the full team 11 on 11, where all right, you, these are the main snaps. This is first team offense, 11 versus first or second. This team offense, 11 versus first or second team defense, 11. We're not talking 50 snaps in that setting, right? It's, it's more like 15 or 20 for the first team offense in one practice. So you're right. Well, if you start kind of parsing that in half, then you're, you're actually, if your goal is to make Kyler Murray, the best possible quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings in 2026,

16:20taking away even a third of his snaps to build chemistry and to learn the playbook and the timing and everything, you're hedging, you're kind of, you're kind of doing what they set out to do four years ago, which is, was it a competitive rebuild? How did they phrase that back in 20? That's what crazy said, competitive rebuild. And they kind of perfectly did it. They were competitive while kind of retooling. And then they haven't won a playoff game, but Kevin Seaford, by the way, speaking of, he stood out and watched a lot of Vikings practices over the past 25 years, ESPN.com. So he put a great summation out yesterday, a look at what the Vikings have said about their crowded quarterback group. So, you know, he's the messenger here, but he is taking quotes from all of the key stakeholders going back weeks back into January from O'Connell, Burzinski, and he is essentially stating based on what the Vikings are saying

17:21a few different points in italics here. So I'm not going to read you all the quotes, but I am going to read you, Kevin writes, here's what Vikings decision makers have said about the quarterback situation so far and then his sort of takeaway in each category. I'm going to read you his takeaways. The Vikings are more than comfortable with Kyler Murray's fit in their offense for anyone who's concerned about the deep passes, the ADOT, all that stuff, right? The out of structure stuff. Murray can be special and no one has denied it. Former number one overall pick. He's played at a really high level at times. The Vikings have not given up on McCarthy, because publicly they continue to at least, you know, Kevin O'Connell in January. McCarthy is a guy that wants to be great. I know he's going to work tirelessly to do that. Got to get better at some things, whatever. Rob Burzinski, February 23rd. I can tell you, we have a ton of confidence in JJ McCarthy. He's been through a lot of adversity.

18:21And guess what? That's a really, really hard job with a lot of pressure. We believe in him, blah, blah, blah. But they acknowledge the impact of McCarthy's slow development over two years. And then there's some more quotes. While Murray is the strong favorite to win the job, it would be surprising if there isn't some sort of split of practice reps. And I think he's referring to first team reps there. Wentz is best viewed as insurance. And that's kind of the main summation there. So we'll see. We'll see if they, if they split reps, we'll see. I would be shocked if Carson Wentz is stashed away as QB3 at, you know, $3 million guaranteed. So we'll see how the next, by the way, the draft is coming up to. I know people aren't talking about this. What if they draft a quarterback? What if they actually like a quarterback in the draft? And the fact that you can reset the contract clock? More than like continuing forward with McCarthy. That would talk to about that at all. Well, and if they did, we, we would know fully at that point.

19:23Well, I guess in fairness, depending on where the guy is drafted. But if they drafted, let's just say, let's just go crazy here and say, tie Simpson at 18, right? Then they're just out. Like then it is over. So by the way, I am being accused in the comments. I'd just like to bring this up quickly of something called. Is it frame magging? Frame magging? Yes. I'm being accused. It's slang for when someone with a larger, more dominant physical build. Makes another person look significantly smaller or less athletic when standing next to them. And I was just going to ask you how am I? I don't understand. Yes. Thank you. That one. I'm just deducting. So because feel you're what? You're five, five, eight, five. With the right shoes. I'm five there. Yeah. Okay. And I'm like, like five, nine, five, ten on a good day, depending on how, you know, how hard I stretched when I woke up that morning. And Judd, you're like a little taller than me. So in terms of just if you're, if you're just, if you're just seeing us in public.

20:27And you saw standing next to each other. You are technically like the tallest of us three. I wouldn't say though you have like this presence or build. That is like swarming or suffocating a deck when I were a Mackie. Well, but I was just curious, like, am I, are my comments? Like I thought it was in relation to how we were talking about the QB thing. And that could be a two. I became very confused as to like, I like the phrase. Like I like the phrase, the lurch at the camera aggressively while you were status your case. Maybe that was it. Like I love to use these phrases when I find them out, but I just don't know how this one applies necessarily. Yeah. I think it was your maybe just aggressive lurch of the camera. Well, I mean, as my old man used to say enough is enough. I want him out. This might be like a fitting transition here. Michael, Michael Cohen, not that Michael Cohen, I would assume.

21:27Who wins in a handicap wrestling match? Oh, the rhino Alex Boone versus everyone else on purple daily. Alex Boone. Alex Boone. Well, no, I do. We get some disagree. He's got a fake knee. Well, yeah, if we get sorrows. Well, if we get sorrows, it's it's just the three of us. Boone. Boone's got a fake knee, man. You don't need to put that thing in a figure four leg lock. It's a rat. Wow. You guys hold them down or we'll hold them down. Yeah. I'll hold him down. I'll hold Alex Boone down. Yeah, absolutely. I don't know. Yeah. I think that's right. I don't know that we could do that. It's a good thing. How much caffeine he's had. If he's had more than like 200 milligrams of caffeine or we're price screwed. Probably got too much. I will just be continuing like kicking him in the shin the entire time. That'd be my only strategy there. He'd kill you like a mosquito. Yeah, he'd flick me and I'd fly. Do we get to use steel chairs? Would be my is this a is this like a street fight style?

22:30Is it hell in a cell? What are the stipulations on this? But but you know, make a mistake. His his lower base is is very tenuous after all the knee replacement surgery. But your issue is like how are we going? So if you're going to take care of his knee and it's dex and I don't understand how we're going to eat. I don't know how we're going to hold him down for you to take care of business. I think you just like both if you both you guys deliver a chop lock right at the same knee. Declan would break in half. And just sort of I think I think I'm. Declan is slight. I would need to be I would be replaced. My my body would be replaced. If I tried to chop lock someone. People Dylan is asking. No. What could we do this at the state fair? At the park actually do this. Not in our stage. This would be a Saturday highlight at the park. I think we could do it out right out in front of our stage. Kind of fun. Mike Zimmer would be the special guest referee. Then we might have a different look and look at the screw Alex Boone there again. That's right right. Let's see here.

23:30Roller times in and says I will always appreciate this show for not being franchise propaganda. Even if I sometimes disagree with you guys also for for general manager. Yeah, I think I also think that's part of the. Call it like a cognitive dissonance in this quarterback discussion where we are we are coming at it. Again, I don't I don't think anyone's like mad that they might be masking the truth or whatever. But we're questioning are they telling the truth. Do they know what they're doing with a young quarterback is Kevin O'Connell adaptable. To either a young quarterback or a quarterback in Kyler Murray that needs some system adaptation. Like we're we're posing I think fair questions. And maybe the Vikings will answer those questions favorably in the coming months. Oh, look at that. Koc learned his lesson. He adapted in his running more 12 personnel, whatever it may be. But I also feel like there's a lot of people that are just not poking or questioning at all.

24:35And they just take everything at face value that's told to them by the team. So yeah, we're I don't think and I'll throw it to Judd here because he can speak even better on this than than anyone can. But we don't ever want to just like be a house organ for a Minnesota sports team here. You know, when they're playing well, we'll wave the flag and have a good time with everyone else. But if you're just looking for people to agree and nod with their eyes wide open at everything Minnesota sports teams do. Then like that's that's not how our podcasts operate on score. Yeah, and you know what? There are all types and I totally get this of fans, right? There's the Vikings fans who want the Vikings content, preferably provided by the Vikings and and totally get that. And if that's you, we're probably not the perfect place. There are a lot of there are a lot of places that fit your lifestyle of being a Vikings fan better than us. There are also people and these are totally and I don't know that we probably don't have a lot of these folks.

25:37There are folks that I think the football season gets done and they're sort of done for a while. Now that runs counter to this show where we love to speculate and we love I think we all agree aside from the really slow periods. The offseason of me is as much fun or more fun at times free agency the draft time as as like week eight. But you know, there's also people I feel like that just trust teams and they're like, well, the team is going to do what the team is going to do and that's fine. And that was probably more of a thing 25 years back. But like if you see a good team run now compared to a team where you've lost trust like with the wolves. I continue to pound this home Tim Conley. It's made some bizarre ass moves. But guess what they work. He's really good at his job for the most part. And so like if he's lying or something and we find out he lied, we're like, oh, okay, cool. Do the Vikings right now having just fired their GM or in January?

26:41Do they have they earn that trust? Like if we are sports parents, have they earned arch? Are we going to give them the keys to the car on a Friday night and trust that they're not going to do something dumb? Yes, I'm glad you brought the Tim Conley sort of wolves cross reference to the table here because it's not that he's been perfect either. Like obviously they've made the dealing hand draft pick looks like it was some drafts you have a bad pick. Yes. But but that dude is batting like 80% on major NBA personnel moves going back to building Denver and now the timber wolves and so when when there's a question or a fork in the road of do we trust Tim Conley that trade that he just made right there? Do we do we trust in that generally you can sit back and say, yeah, I mean the guy. The guy has been right a lot more often than he's been wrong. And I think even like with Kevin O'Connell in quarterbacks, there was a period there. It's like, oh yeah, dude, just hell. Whatever that guy decides I'm in and then the last 12 months brought some additional evidence to the table.

27:41Oh, okay. There's some major flaws or trends in play calling and adaptability and even just like maybe patient level. It shouldn't mean that those 12 months of evidence erase all goodwill and 13 and 14 win seasons. But it just kind of makes you peek your head in the room and be like. What's going on there? What's everything okay and then you layer on top of that not just on Kevin O'Connell, but organizationally the firing of the general manager and then two different studies now coming out comparing the Vikings draft success or lack there of to the rest of the NFL over a four year period. And they are objectively the worst drafting team in the league the last four years. Yeah, it doesn't mean that like Kevin should be fired and everything is like the will of certain terrible and maybe some people take it that far. But it just means compared to 12 or 24 months ago. A little more skepticism when when a big decision is on the horizon or or something big happens.

28:45It's like, let's let's poke at that a little bit and make sure that. Everyone's good with the direction that this is headed it. That's a hundred percent fair. Well, there's some someone did we're going to get to one here. Someone did an unbelievable research project. Quarterback related here that we will shout out. And the snake trash should be should be juicy and feisty here. But MSP plumbing heating and air here. Judds rock in the trucker hat. How about that? And you know what? Okay, so I wake up this morning and it's cold again. It's chilly, right? So the furnace has to go back on. I remember the three of you talking about that infamous moment in the Netflix quarterback series, where Kirk is getting his haircut at great clips. And it had to have been like a sponsorship deal. It was either a sponsorship or he turned it into one shortly afterwards,

32:48but Kirk finds a way to get the bag no matter what. He's the Tom Brady of maximizing his revenue. I'm convinced that if Kirk had been a busted quarterback, he would have been some kind of crypto wizard in a different life. Anyway, I just wanted to share with the three of you how on the money you were with your takes about Kirk generational bag getter. So they like did something maybe someone in the comments saw the start of the pocket. Did they start the podcast? I didn't hear Kirk cousins. Good to have you on the podcast. Thanks, John. My appearance on your podcast presented by a great clip. I also believe he was joined by his wife Julie on the podcast. I think she's sitting right by him as well. But yeah, was she wearing a great clips polo as well? I'm surprised she wasn't decked out and that and the great clips out. You know what? Like this is this is who Kirk was. And for a while, I sort of resented it because it was just such an obvious attempt to get the bag.

33:48But he's so good at getting the bag. I think I've come to sort of respect it. Like this guy went to the Falcons, right? And you're like the Falcons paid him what? And then the Falcons draft another QB and he still walks away. It's incredible. Like it is, I am not joking when I say the Hall of Fame and Canton should have a wing. Every Hall of Fame should have a wing for guys that get the bag and didn't really deserve it. You are getting the prices right. Music is playing. Tell me it wouldn't be your first stop. Tell me that if you went to Canton to the Hall of Fame that your first stop would not be the bag got the bag corner. It's highlighting their biggest purchases in their NFL career. The one playoff game that they won that one time. Signing contracts like instead of throwing passes. It's just them signing their contracts. Pen and hand gold pen wearing a suit. Okay, Kelly McKay times in with some. I guess you could call it constructive criticism here.

34:49I think a 30 minute discussion on the Thursday episode about not training back in the 2000. Whatever that was well last year's draft with the Falcons seems not beneficial at all. It was clear that that trade was offered to Minnesota seeing how the Texans traded one pick after a month a month out from the draft. I would love to rather hear Thor talk about the upcoming draft and what the Viking should do just my two cents. I will say we have and will continue to do a lot of talking in the next month about the upcoming draft. We're doing you know mock draft with Thorskie Thor talks purple is a great place for near daily draft discussion. But the point of that discussion was to dive into the how and why of why the Vikings are the worst drafting team in the NFL the last four years. And Thor let us down this really interesting road of it's not just about the players you pick. It's about the extra value you can gain through strategic trades which sets you up to pick.

35:53Maybe more players or get more value in future years a future first round pick. So it's not just about the players it's about I mean he laid it out he said every year every team gets roughly the same amount of money to spend on their team. And the same number of draft picks how can you get creative within that football economic system to either get more value or maximize the value. And so it was less about going back and lamenting and more about unpacking the how and the why the Vikings have become one of the worst or the worst drafting team in the NFL. Yeah and I believe the theme of the show going into it also was what can they learn how can they do things because their drafter is now or one of their chief drafters is now gone. So like how can they go about trying to maximize drafts and look you know a big part of this entire discussion also is going to be and it should be the 27 draft which is track full of talent. How do you get as many picks as possible there so yeah it wasn't if that had just been begging on the Vikings for the sake of let's talk about last year and how they screwed the pooch there.

37:02I'd be like yeah that's a pretty good point but it's very important to go back to how you drafted previously. I mean 22 draft and people got sick of hearing about that three years ago but the 22 draft was very instructive of how you shouldn't do it. And that's that's important because if you don't examine that guess what you are liable to repeat the exact same mistakes in a couple of years. So yeah, I did too. I thought it was illuminating in some ways. Amir Z. Chimes in here and says I've loved listening to you guys the last several years and your development as podcasters speaking of development. Thank you, Amir. I think this team has a serious development issue on top of the drafting problems in the quacy era the episode you did on Thursday about how bad the drafts were had only one mention of development. If the draft has some randomness to it then at some point a couple of those picks should just hit right draft picks don't become hits in a vacuum coaching staff turn them into good players.

38:07Quacy in my opinion was a scapegoat for years of draft and development failures if the staff can't adjust those failures will continue. I don't disagree at all now now just to be very clear I'm not giving anyone a pass here like it's not well Quacy did a really good job and they didn't develop guys. But it is an in northern amount of draft picks that didn't that didn't come through and so at some point in time I'm inclined to agree that some of them could have 100% been developed and that doesn't mean that they have to be pro bowl players that means are they contributors can they contribute are they good depth guys so. I agree Quacy was a scapegoat I also agree that the way the Vikings were going about things wasn't working so I don't have a problem with him being fired but I think if we discount what the coaching staff did completely that's wrong as well and so yeah there is there's definitely blame to be parceled out to go around here that nobody paid for if that makes sense from a coaching staff standpoint Chris Cooper the offensive line coach you now is surfaced in Philadelphia did he he was fired.

39:18But a lot of guys probably got a pass on the fact that their players didn't develop sufficiently. I'm in the camp too of I think the draft is a little bit random 100 it is it's random 100% yeah you are not going to and like baseball it's very random I mean there's like blood still a bajillion rounds but in football there is some randomness to the NFL draft you. I'm in the fifth round and he's what one of the best wide receivers in the NFL right like that's going to happen Brock party Tom Brady there's going to be like random things that happen towards the back end of the draft. But when you have a trend of like the Vikings do of not hitting on any of these draft picks over a four year period and there's kind of one guy that's supposed to be overseeing it how much is he influencing it well it does kind of fall into his department. We no longer now have a randomness we have a trend and it has to be fixed immediately that's amazing on the randomness of the draft I mean obviously we're talking about we're talking about you know 20 to 24 year old human beings.

40:24That are going into these crazy environments in the league that are high pressure and stress and everything like. And I kind of mentioned this yesterday even the players that that panned out to be Hall of Famers and I'll use Peyton Manning as an example like obviously in retrospect Peyton Manning's one of the greatest players of all time and Tom Brady's one of the greatest players of all time but when those guys enter the draft they had there's a percentage chance that those guys are busts depending on injury luck or circumstances the coach that you get the organization that you get whatever it may be right. So you're you're really just trying to like stack the odds in your favor more often in the draft I mean speaking of poker like poker player for a long time and if you ever played Texas hold on. If you can get your money in with let's say pocket aces against someone else's pocket pair kings jacks whatever you've got them dominated in a hand but really you're only in like a 75 to 80% to win that hand.

41:29So you can do things right and pick for value and make the right trades but at the end of the day you're picking human beings that still have like a 15 20 50% bust rate in the first two or three rounds. So you have to bake that into the equation I would say like in terms of lack of development it would be fun to put together a list I mean off the top my head I could throw a few names at you over the last four years which players would you look at the Vikings drafted who didn't really pan out. You say I wonder if they did pick the right player but they just didn't do a good job of getting it out of that guy and then it becomes too late after three or four and the names that come into my head would be I would say at Ingram certainly because we saw some flashes in Houston. I think Thai Chandler's on that list Thai Chandler ran like a 435 40 our dash he's explosive but he couldn't figure out like how to be an asset on third down okay some of that just hated. We tried to teach you and you couldn't figure it out or did they do a bad job getting him up to speed here's what you have to do as a backup NFL running back.

42:36I would say Thai Felton not getting on the field last year now Thor said pre draft that I don't know about him right. But like there wasn't any world in which you could have coached him up better or developed him better in the offseason program to get some snaps when like Jordan Addison's out. And you know Jalen and there has a questionable hand and then I would say McKay Blackman and Jay Ward like Jay Ward might get some more snaps this year but. Those guys look like players and and McKay Blackman played pretty well for the Colts why not for the Vikings you know they were thin at that position. It does feel like like if there is a trend from a coaching staff standpoint with O'Connell here it feels like there's not a lot of patience and and they pull the plug quickly because you know you don't. You don't you don't know our extensive playbook and so therefore you can't play well then you don't play and it becomes a problem. So yeah there is no question and the draft being random to go back to Declan's point is a very interesting discussion because to me yes it's random in the nature that you are drafting young men and you don't know exactly what you're going to get that being said it's also not a coincidence that some teams draft well and some don't.

43:52And that includes everything your system once you get them what you do with them all of that but football and sports in general it's such a different world that like the draft being random can't just be a general excuse well the draft was random we didn't have a good draft sorry about that right so yes there is a random nature to it but there is also clearly if you study the teams that are good at this. A philosophy from the draft to how you cultivate the players that works and like that's what I think you should study to remove as much of the randomness as possible and it feels like the Vikings since 2022 have done a really poor job there so so like you got to look internal like long and hard like if I if they do get a GM outside of Brazinski that person has to come in and say okay let's do a thorough. All of this and find out what went wrong and and filter to your point let's identify the guys that could have been hits why weren't they why did they go elsewhere and have. Success because you are getting some of these draft picks now and they're not great players but they're contributing elsewhere why are they contributors which you by the way could use elsewhere and yet you got nothing from them before you basically said screw it and release them yeah.

45:07Yep is there all I mean someone in the comments just says you know couldn't macaque Blackman have been a better option than Jeff Akuda last year yeah in a lot of ways let's see here. All right this is let's get to this this is the incredible deep dive research from Dave Yant Dave's analytics on Twitter founder of sports and a lyrics or Anna. Yeah sports analytics well it's Anna with an eye it is on Twitter I got you I got you. Looks like he might have worked for the Brewers oh and he worked for Saber so like the baseball as a VR so all right Dave Yant is his name Robin. Yeah that's right now. Are you Robin Yant's kid a relation there I mean if you work for the Brewers on the Brewers last name the Yant no fast Dave but I'm going to guess that your path to work for the Brewers might not have been. That's difficult. No I'm you're ripping him for Nepad. I'm saying. Wow I'm very interested.

46:08Are you I'd like to apologize are you. Affiliate with Robin Yant the great Robin Yant God what a player he was son grandson. No let us Dave let us know but. So he sent in to the three of us and Thor he said huge fan of purple daily. As someone who's worked in analytics and pro sports I wanted to propose a new angle for discussion. We by the way he laid this out better than we have but we we did this similar study before the 2024 draft in terms of what is the percentage hit rate. On the various like if you draft the first quarterback off the board the second quarterback off the board. But he says I want to preface my research by saying I bought some JJ I bought a JJ McCarthy Jersey after the draft. I really wanted him to be the guy and also a big fan of Thor's draft evaluations. So please don't take this study as hate but I wanted to add some data to the table here he built the table of every QB five since 1980.

47:09So and the table includes again over 45 years. The first quarterback off the board the second quarterback off the board QB three four and JJ McCarthy was the fifth quarterback off the board. And the data is pretty clear he said so he he's defining a franchise quarterback as three plus probals that's kind of his there's probably other ways so he's highlighting the quarterbacks that went to at least three probals. And he says the data is pretty clear teams are 183% more likely to hit on a franchise quarterback with QB one compared to QB two 240% more likely to hit on a franchise QB with QB one compared to QB three. And then it keeps getting steeper and steeper and steeper as you get to QB five QB five is almost never pan out. And we laid this out too and ignored it going into the 2024 draft because all these guys are these is a quarterback rich class right JJ McCarthy was drafted higher than any QB five in NFL history.

48:16So here are since 1980 the only QB fives who've been three time pro bowlers. Can you actually can you name any of them? Okay, QB fives this QB five size here pro bowlers um pro bowlers Jeff Garcia he was undrafted. Okay, I'll go. I'll go one. Yeah, yep. Yeah, go ahead. Jack Prescott. Jack Prescott. I'm looking for the highlighted. Is he a three time pro bowler? Yeah, it's a good guess has to be. He might have been like QB six. I mean, he was like a fourth round. That's right. I'm thinking of like figure six guy and I knew deck was a day to dude. I mean, all of these do there's a there is a super bowl champion in here for sure. There's some dudes in here, but way more than aren't with aren't to dudes. Andy Dalton is a QB five. He's one of them. Second on pick second on pick. Yeah, second on pick 2010 was Russell or 11.

49:22Russell is he was further back. Okay, he was further back. What year was that? That was like, oh, it was like 11 right? Wasn't that the Andy Dalton draft? That was the pondered Alton draft, wasn't it? Yeah, they're all. It might have been the year after that. I think, yeah. Russ was drafted as a rookie and beat out Matt Flynn in 2012, right? So, yeah, so I would have been the 12 would have been. So, yeah, Oswiler was the QB five in that draft rock. Well, boy. So the other QB fives that went to at least three pro bowls are Mark Bulger, Lamar Jackson, Jalen Hertz. Jimmy Garoppolo was a QB five. I believe he belongs. I know he's not a three time pro baller, but like he was really good and went to a Super Bowl. I would include him as a hit as a QB five personally, but here's the other ones. The other QB fives McCarthy, Hendon Hooker, Bailey Zappy, Mac Jones, Will Greer, Davis Webb, Jacobi Brissett, Bryce Petty, Ryan Nassib, Brock Oswiler.

50:28Mike Kafka, Stephen McGee, Kevin O'Connell, Drew Stanton, Tavaris Jackson, Andrew Walter Walker. It's kind of small fun. Matt Shobb is pretty good for a couple of years. David Gerard was okay for a couple of years. And then the names get more obscure when you get back into like the mid 90s and further back, but I mean that like that's it's hard to pump the brakes though when you this is a great quarterback draft and this is the same deal for 2027 where there's going to be like six or seven first round guys. And it's not that they never hit that late Lamar Jackson. Awesome. He was QB five, but he's right. The odds of hitting on a franchise quarterback. If you're taking the third, fourth, fifth, etc. quarterback off the board are pretty damn low. And maybe you're better off in today's age of impatience on just abstaining from drafting a quarterback and then playing that secondary market until you find yourself in a spot where you can either take a flyer and stash a guy.

51:38But really interesting research from from Davie out analytics, Dave analytics on Twitter. Hold on a second here. I'm going to Google Robin Young and see if he has any kids. He's got to be related. I mean, again, no offense, but work for the brewers. Come on. Yeah, I mean, assuming the, hold on. It also be a great way to like get a job with the brewers. Change your last name to me out. He's not my, he's not my dad. Judd Muller here. Judd Muller just looking for some work. I've been nobody. Um, he he adds here. The Vikings made the exact same mistake with Christian ponder who is QB four and stretch to take him at 12. If you're not in position to take QB one, the worst thing you can do is get desperate and talk yourself into QB four or five. History says that that has an astronomically low probability of turning into a franchise quarterback. If the Vikings want to find their franchise, QB in the draft, they need to make sure he's the consensus.

52:41QB one, trade up or don't draft one at all. Now Patrick Mahomes was the, was the second quarterback off the board and the chiefs went up 17 spots to get him. That's interesting. Josh Allen was the third quarterback off the board and the bills went up like seven or nine spots to get him in 2018. So those are a couple. Couple were teams were aggressive going out for a QB two or a QB three. All right. I still can't find it. He, he had a kid that played Dustin played. He was drafted by the Orioles in the 2001 draft, but they don't have the rest of his kids. Anyway, all right. All right. I'm great stuff. Shout out to analytics Dave here. Thank you, Dave. We made a mistake. Let's see here. Let's do, let's do one more and then we'll get to our, to our snake draft Mike Zabinski says I'm a long time lister and viewer on a number of platforms and and a distant relative of Pat Royce.

53:53It's Mike Zabinski. Royce is his name. No, it's just Mike Zabinski, but he is a relative of Pat Rayce. Thank you for all the podcasts and tribute shows you put out on Monday. It was definitely, definitely part of trying to make sense of the senseless with the tragic passing of Jesse Pierce and our kids. I'm sure I'm not alone and trying to find a way to leave a lasting legacy so the world can be more like the place it would have been had Jesse been here for another 40 plus years. I know that providing opportunities for kids to play hockey and scholarships for mentoring women in sports media would potentially do that. I don't know if I'm the first or thousands person person you've heard say this, but at the start of March Iowa State University eliminated its gymnastics program and is looking to add another women's sport to maintain Title IX compliance. The opportunity and fundraising spotlight is there to create a women's hockey program that's Jesse's alma mater Iowa State. So just some ideas. Thank you again. I guess this is just another reminder of both how there are more important things in life than sports and how they have the power to bring people together and have conversations with people that we wouldn't be able to otherwise.

55:06Yeah, I mean, we just kind of behind the scenes. We've been talking about ways that we can do something to honor Jesse's legacy. Judd, you've brought up even on the podcast helping women in sports media is something that she was super passionate about and broke through herself on a number of different platforms. Yeah, I mean, if the audience has ideas too, but we long term we'd love to do something, whether it's an annual thing or I mean the scholarship idea is really interesting, but yeah, we are we are wide open to figuring out the best way to honor Jesse. Yeah, it's crazy how fast everything is kind of like the time. I mean, it was it was last it was six days ago. It feels in some ways it feels like a month and it feels also like still like yesterday. I'm always really weird with times in terms of like anniversaries or or how much time has been spent since this moment happened and whatnot and yeah, it's just it's it's not man. It's still in a state of shock like it's I think at some point it is nice to kind of get yourself back on track,

56:11which is we did that on on Tuesday to try to you know, resemble some type of a normal day, but still very present on the mind. That's even like when I did my little twin show video yesterday, posting the fit check of the dad shirt. You know, just yeah, thinking of her all the time. It's it's it's crazy how even though it's last week. It's it's just time comes a blur in these situations. It's going to take while like I'm like it's not going to be a week. It's it's going to be more it's it's so tragic. It's so I mean the kids we've talked about this, but yeah, I think you just have to accept the fact it's going to take a long time and it doesn't mean you're going to dwell on it every day, but I mean, she comes into my thoughts now probably 15 times a day, just something where, where I go to text her an age on on our hockey thread if the wild does something dumb like there's just so many different instances you don't realize how much another person plays a role in your life until they're gone and you can't do that. And in this case, I mean, it just makes no sense like at least when my parents died, they were older and so it's like, okay, it's less than ideal, but it makes sense to me.

57:20This doesn't make any sense and so it's just going to take it's going to take a long time and I think acceptance of the fact that that's going to be the case is probably the most important thing because you can't make it stop like you can't just wake up one day and say, okay, that's that this is a situation where, you know, it's I think a mic or husband all of that and in some ways it's comforting because it because thinking of her at least keeps her alive for now. Yeah, it's yeah, it's it is weird that something horrible and crazy and tragic happens and all you want is for just the world to stop for a minute so people can process and whatever, but it doesn't. And all of a sudden it's like four days, five days and but yeah, keep like we said, if you guys have ideas or things that we haven't brought up, we're going to be thinking about that the next several weeks and couple months, how can we do something or set something up, is it an annual event, is it an annual scholarship to help women in sports media, further their path and career, something that, you know, we think she would sign off on.

And it got me thinking I consult with the committee we met very briefly last evening. And we decided on an interesting snake draft topic. Mediocre Minnesota athletes that we can't quit that we love. And these can be current players. These can be former players. You can totally take a former Minnesota average-ish athlete. There are parameters of like we can't take Joe Mowers and Kevin Garnett's and Randy Moss and Adrian Peterson. We can't take guys that were like established stars or winning league awards representing their pro bowl or all star game type of things. There is I think going to be maybe a little bit of a conversation here if someone takes one I think personally if you take that person.

1:02:52Let's have a convert conversation about it. Because I do think there's there's a little bit of a gray area here. Because all star games and probals are a pretty nebulous bar. Probo is a very low bar. Yeah, I mean like your Sanders was a pro baller this year. Right, but like hit yeah. So that that's where let's have a combo about it. Because if it's someone that you think is average, I was just trying to use that as like if they're getting recognition a lot for their accomplishments for games. Then I would think they kind of should be off the list, but we can we can talk about it. And they are and these are guys that were we're not great players, but like we gravitated towards. So we're standing essentially it's like it's a stand to talent ratio that you are standing for this player and have stand for this player probably above and beyond like where they're where they're at. Exactly. That's fair. Okay. You you could take I have it as Minnesota athletes to so I would prefer if we just stayed in Minnesota.

In my or am I going to botch the development of my pick here in Teddy bridge water. We will find out. I just I'll be honest had a big assumption that neither you two would take him because I loved him so much. He's a top my list. Yeah, great. I'm a little. He's a top my list. Oh my god, you're going to take a. You're going to take Randy Moss, aren't you? So I have I definitely have a bunch more twins players on this list than any other thing.

1:06:01Obviously with with watching a lot of twins twins baseball. I have two Vikings. One that's pretty good, but probably not worthy of my first like round selection. One that never played a game. I kind of I kind of want to take John David booty because that's the next guy on this list that I stood for that never played a damn game in the NFL. I knew I think it'd be on your big board. Yeah, he's not on mine, but yeah. The casualty a Brett far of coming to the Minnesota Vikings John David booties. Oh man, who do I want to take here though? I have a couple other options. Well, and and just to be clear, I'm sort of going to take a page from Phil's book in the sense that this. This is not a guy that I stand for, but everyone else did. And so and it is the most Minnesota thing of all time. So with my first selection, I'm going to take Darby Hendrickson. The rich field kid came back here. Wild fans were all one of us very, very excited. So I'm taking Darby with my first pick because we were very excited.

1:08:05Yeah, he was just, I mean, he's a local kid, right? It worked perfectly. Boy, and then with my second pick, I'm going to take Jack Jones. Oh, oh, man, I feel like I mean, we'll allow it. But Jack Jones was pretty awesome for a few years, right? I mean, he was like, I can pivot off of it. I can. I've got more on my board here. I've got more on my board here. I just felt like we we loved Jack Jones. He's sort of epitomized and Tory. Tory was too good, clearly, to be on this list. So Jack was sort of the guy. But I mean, I can pivot off of it if you guys are not comfortable with this pick. No, I'm cool with it. Jack Jones, I believe it was 25 years ago this week or next week. Hit the the season lead off Homer for the twins sparking the 2001 season in Kansas city. He did. And I believe Dick Braemer's call was that shot was heard in New York because of the

1:09:05contraction and Dick Braemer did not of course want to blame Carl and say that shot was heard and Carl pull its office. So Carl tried to get them contracted. Yeah, it was right, right, right. But he worked for the team. He wasn't going to say that. Actually, what Dick said originally on the call was and there's a fly ball to deep short. The wind is carrying it back. Oh, it's back to the track. It's gone. This is so unnecessary. That was he probably doesn't listen to purple daily. I guess we'll find out. We're already blocked. I am. 1:10:11because I was of super impressionable at the time. And I love this guy. It was my first favorite twin. And it was teammate of Jack Jones. Give me Louis Revas. I love Louis Revas. I played second base two. So like loved, you know, wanted to be just like the second basement on the twins at the time. So I'll take Louis Revas with my second pick. Usually wore the high socks, but you ever see him with his pants down? Never seen with his pants down. Like in gym shorts. Yeah. That was. That was awesome. Okay. So I'm back on the clock here now with. Back to back picks. Nice, nice run of twins here with Jack Jones and Luis Revas. Um, I mean, there's definitely like, I do have some twins on my big board. I'll throw one out that I don't think is on either one of yours. But Oswaldo Arcia definitely on my big board. I was worried he was going to be the David Ortiz 2.0 that left the twins. But with some other Vikings on the list here that are higher up on my big board.

1:11:12I have to start final pick in the second round here with a guy that I always thought just didn't get enough chances and carries a guy that averaged. I believe it was just a tick under five yards of carry in his Vikings career. But just like was kind of considered a bust Toby Gerhardt. I always wondered like, I know that Adrian Peterson's on the team. But like, can we just get this guy the ball a little more? He's a playmaker. He can catch passes. And they just never. I've always wondered like, what if he got drafted by a team that didn't have Adrian Peterson? Why would a team with Adrian Peterson draft Toby Gerhardt? Like, can we play his career out differently and see if he has like a 1,500 yard crazy season? But he went to the Jaguars and washed out quickly, right? Yeah, but he was used. So I think we answered the question in Jacksonville, I think. He averaged 3.1 yards per attempt in Jacksonville. But I was a, I was a Toby Gerhardt truth or I thought they've got this crazy weapon here

1:12:15that apparently dude, his last year with the Vikings. It was only 36 carries. He averaged 8 yards of carry as a 26. You're still a truth or what? You're still standing for much price. You wasn't your top pick. Well, he was my second pick. So my third pick. I'm just going in order on my big board here, boys, but. The dog, it's dog. Sam Bradford is to me. Now, they went to the NFC championship game without him with Case Keenum, but. I thought they had something special in floppy sleeves. Sam Bradford and I, in every quarterback discussion we ever have around here, like historically. I stand for the fact that he was, he was like. If his knees didn't blow up, he would have been like a six year starter here. And maybe he would have taken them to a Super Bowl. If you got like the healthy version of Sam Bradford, which they did for I think exactly 16 games.

1:13:18It was 15 and then he played the one or maybe he started. Yeah, we started the same game. And it was like one of the great performances. 300 yards, bunch of touchdowns. He started. He started 17, right? Because he started that ill-fated game in Chicago when he never should have played. Yeah, but that game was one of the, I felt you felt terrible for him. So I'm going, give me the floppy sleeves of, of Samuel. James Bradford. Okay. Samuel Michael. And the stair. Very flat line person. Dude didn't blink. Did not blink refused to blink. I'll take a Viking here and also another team at a Sam Bradford's too. I love this guy. I, I, I think he's very underappreciated. I think he was exactly mediocre. Like not to the point where like there was a better player in there necessarily. But if he was reliable, he, he was solid for a third down catch. Give me Jarius right. I love Jarius right.

1:14:18He's on my big board too. I, I, I, like, you know, some of these guys were just like, man, they should have gotten more of a chance. Or I, I really think there was a better player in there. I think Jarius right was exactly who he should have been. Like he, he, like I don't think that, you know, I, I really liked him for third down. I really liked him for third down catches and he was just always there. But I stood, I stand for him and I loved be some Jarius right. So give me some Jarius right. Yeah, love that. I thought he was going to be, I thought he was going to be like this rock solid. Number two possession guy, 900 yards. But you're right. He's a few hundred yards, you know, catch a third down pass once in a while. All right. And then Judd, the final pick. So this is not going to be my pick. The two guys that I have from approximately the same Vikings era are KJ Osborne and Jerk McKinnon on my big board. I thought about Jerk too. And now. But KJ KJ, we were always like, I wonder if he could be the two. I went and then he went, I think to Washington and complete or no, the Patriots and completely washed out again.

1:15:19Like right away. It's like, okay, I guess he couldn't have been the two boys. So I haven't taken a Viking. I could have taken either one of those. I want to take one of those into. I want to take my twins. Bigboard is glorious as well. I mean, since you guys have picked Al Newman on here on my Ryan Coomers on my big board. Coom dog. Now he was an all star, but that was by default. Nick, Nick Blackburn was on my twins portion of the board was. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Jerk, do I take Jerk McKinnon or Coom dog? That's my question. Do I take Jerk McKinnon or do I take the Coom dog? You know what? I'm going to take the Coom dog. The Coom dog. Ron Coomer. Ron. We loved Coomer. And he's a great guy. Great guy. All star. All star. He was a Minnesota like, oh man, he's our guy. The Coom dog. So all right, the voting is going to be as always on the Schorner Twitter account.

1:16:21Shortly here. I got AJ. Fast at work. So I wind up with Teddy Bridgewater, Toby Gerhardt, Sam Bradford. Judd winds up with Darby Hendrickson, Jack Jones, Ron Coomer, decks with Alexi Shved, Luis Rivas, and Jerryus Wright. And these are mediocre Minnesota athletes that we had an affinity for above and beyond what they what they probably were. So you can vote for your favorite team. I had also, I said Scott Baker on here. I had an anti-laxonon. Oh yeah. Concentrated lecture on this list. Yep. Jason Tiner. Loved Jason Tiner. And then also Shabbaz Shabbaz Mohammed. Oh. Cool. Just a heart chakra. Heart chakra. Heart chakra. Hard to take Shabbaz. Other names on my big board. JJ McCarthy. Didn't get drafted here. Yeah. People are going to add us.

1:17:21Earth Smith, Jr. Oh, that's going. And Gabriel Murphy. Still wondering why they haven't unleashed one of the best past wrestlers in the NFL. Maybe they're just laying in the weeds for a couple of years. Ready to. And early. An early wolf who was, uh, who was good here. But of course, it was on terrible teams as Doug West. Yeah. He was like just a good steady kind of. But we thought he was a star. NBA player. Yeah. Well, did you listen to Wolves players feel? You know, I don't. I literally combed through the top 100 Wolves players to try and find, um, like who, who have I stand for. Above and beyond their level of play. And it was hard. It was hard to find. Like Trell Brandon came to mind. But like, Trell Brandon was like a really good player. I guess he's kind of like a more like a Sam Bradford. Like bad knees, feats, good solid player, not like an all star. Um, and then the only other one that I would have thrown out there is a Nicola Peckovic. I thought that guy was. Yeah.

1:18:21That was a good one. One of the 10 best players in the NBA at one point. For a rate of 65 games. He was. Yeah. As a position. That's what, yeah. That's a flip set. Yeah. Yeah. The Wolves have had. I mean, there's, there's other players like James Hollywood Robinson. I thought was fun. But he would not have. He wouldn't have surpassed Toby Gerhardt on this list. Yeah. The two Wolves. I had Doug West and also a fun one. Sam Mitchell. Kind of the same type of guy, right? Just like a good solid veteran. Sam Mitchell was. Yeah. Yeah. But I mean, Sam, Sam was a gravitational force type of guy too. I just feel like as a, because he was sort of the savvy guy. Developed or didn't develop helped KG. Yeah.
