7News Just In — Desperate search for missing five-year-old Sharon Granites. Machine-transcribed; use the interactive transcript above to jump the player to any line.
0:00A desperate search continues south of Alice Springs for a young girl abducted from her home on Saturday night. Police believe five-year-old Sharon is still alive, more than 48 hours after she disappeared. She was last seen holding hands with a man who'd recently been released from prison. Tucked into bed by Marmon Saturday night, not seen since. Five-year-old Sharon Granets has been missing for almost three days. Police suspect she was abducted by this man, 47-year-old Jefferson Lewis. I think it was last seen with a little girl holding hands at around about 11 o'clock at night. Released from prison six days ago, with a long criminal history, aggravated assault, domestic violence, bail breach, and according to police, a loose connection with Sharon's family. As you can imagine, Mum's pretty distraught. But police believe she is alive. We do, but as you know, as time goes on, the chances of finding her alive and well reduced.
1:07Sharon went missing from the old-timers camp just south of Alice Springs, but the search area is 20 square kilometres tough country where dozens of detectives, volunteers, even indigenous trackers and army reserves, are on the hunt. Rough to run, long grass, soft sand. We're searching everywhere at the moment. Hours before the alleged abduction, police were called to old-timers. Officers happened to record Lewis on body-worn cameras in the clothes he was last seen wearing. On behalf of all Australians, we want to see a safe return. From NT Senator, just into price, to her family, our thoughts are with you, to the community. This is the moment to step up. Somebody knows something. Let's help bring her home. Tom Saker, 7 News.
