Democrat Talarico Gains in Texas Senate Race

0:00On April 28th, a fresh poll out of Texas is giving Democrats a real shot at flipping a Senate seat this November. James Tallerigo, their state rep candidate, leads both top Republicans in head-to-head matchups. He's up three points on incumbent John Cornyn, 44 to 41 percent, and five points ahead of Attorney General Ken Paxton, 46 to 41. This Texas Public Opinion Research Survey hit 1,865 likely voters, showing Tallerigo's strength against Cornyn, who's held the seat since 2002, and Paxton, the fire brand who's faced impeachment heat last year. Meanwhile, Cornyn and Paxton square off in a GOP primary runoff on May 26th, with both chasing Donald Trump's nod. Trump calls them both electable so far, but hasn't picked aside. While Tallerigo's edge comes big from black, Latino, and college educated voters, plus moderates and independence, fueling them optimism in a state that's tough turf.
