Day 86: Deuteronomy 5-6; Proverbs 25; Acts 2

0:00CHAPTER V Moses called to all Israel and said to them, �Here Israel, the statutes and the ordinances which I speak in your ears this day, that you may learn them, and observe to do them. The Lord our God made a covenant with us in horib. The Lord didn't make this covenant with our fathers, but with us, even us who were all of us here alive this day. The Lord spoke with you face to face on the mountain out of the mist of the fire. I stood between the Lord and you at that time to show you the word of the Lord, for you were afraid because of the fire and didn't go up onto the mountain. Saying, �I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage, you shall have no other gods before me. You shall not make it engraved image for yourself, nor any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.

1:04You shall not bow down yourself to them, nor serve them, for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, and on the third and on the fourth generation of those who hate me, and showing loving kindness to thousands of those who love me, and keep my commandments. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain. Observe the Sabbath day to keep it holy, as the Lord your God commanded you. Six days shall you labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. In it you shall not do any work, you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your man servant, nor your ox, nor your donkey, nor any of your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates, that your man servant and your mate servant may rest as well as you. You shall remember that you were a servant in the land of Egypt, and the Lord your God

2:07brought you out of there by a mighty hand and by an outstretched arm, therefore the Lord your God commanded you to keep the Sabbath day. And are your father and your mother, as the Lord your God commanded you, that your days may be long, and that it may go well with you in the land which the Lord your God gives you. You shall not murder, neither shall you commit adultery, neither shall you steal, neither shall you give all's testimony against your neighbor, neither shall you covet your neighbor's wife, neither shall you desire your neighbor's house, his field, or his man servant or his mate servant, his ox, or his donkey, or anything that is your neighbor's. These words the Lord spoke to all your assembly on the mountain, out of the mist of the fire, of the cloud, and of the thick darkness, with a great voice, and he added no more. He wrote them on two tables of stone and gave them to me. It happened, when you heard the voice out of the mist of the darkness, while the mountain

3:10was burning with fire, that you came near to me, even all the heads of your tribes in your elders, and you said, Behold, the Lord our God has shown us His glory and His greatness, and we have heard His voice out of the mist of the fire. We have seen this day that God does speak with man, and He lives. Now therefore why should we die? For this great fire will consume us. If we hear the voice of the Lord our God anymore, then we shall die. For who is there of all flesh, that has heard the voice of the living God, speaking out of the mist of the fire, as we have, and lived? Go near and hear all that the Lord our God shall say, and speak to us all that the Lord our God shall speak to you, and we will hear it and do it. The Lord heard the voice of your words, when you spoke to me, and the Lord said to me, I have heard the voice of the words of this people which they have spoken to you. They have said, Well, all that they have spoken. Oh, that there were such a heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments

4:15always, that it might be well with them, and with their children forever. Go tell them, return to your tents. But as for you, you stand here by me, and I will speak to you all the commandment, and the statutes, and the ordinances, which you shall teach them, that they may do them in the land which I give them to possess it. You shall observe to do, therefore, as the Lord your God has commanded you, you shall not turn aside to the right hand, or to the left. You shall walk in all the way which the Lord your God has commanded you, that you may live, and that it may be well with you, and that you may prolong your days in the land which you shall possess. Chapter 6 Now this is the commandment, the statutes, and the ordinances, which the Lord your God commanded to teach you, that you might do them in the land where you go over to possess it, that you might fear the Lord your God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command you, you and your son, and your son's son, all the days of your life, and that

5:21your days may be prolonged. Here, therefore, Israel in observed to do it, that it may be well with you, and that you may increase mightily, as the Lord the God of your fathers has promised to you, in a land flowing with milk and honey. Here, Israel, the Lord is our God, the Lord is one, and you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might. These words which I command you this day shall be on your heart, and you shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down and when you rise up. You shall bind them for a sign on your hand, and they shall be for symbols between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorpost of your house, and on your gates. It shall be, when the Lord your God shall bring you into the land, which he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give you great and good cities, which you

6:24didn't build, and houses full of good things, which you didn't fill, and sisters dug out, which you didn't dig, then yours in olive trees, which you didn't plant, and you shall eat and be full. Then beware, lest you forget the Lord, who brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. You shall fear the Lord your God, and him shall you serve, and shall swear by his name. You shall not go after other gods, of the gods of the people who are around about you, for the Lord your God in the midst of you is a jealous God, lest the anger of the Lord your God be kindled against you, and he destroy you from off the face of the earth. You shall not tempt the Lord your God, as you tempted him in masa. You shall diligently keep the commandments of the Lord your God in his testimonies and his statutes which he has commanded you. You shall do that which is right and good in the sight of the Lord, that it may be well

7:25with you, and that you may go in and possess the good land which the Lord's ward of your fathers, that thrust out all your enemies from before you, as the Lord has spoken. When your sons ask you in time to come saying, what mean the testimonies and the statutes and the ordinances which the Lord our God has commanded you? Then you shall tell your son, we were Pharaoh's bond servants in Egypt, and the Lord brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand, and the Lord showed signs and wonders great and awesome on Egypt, on Pharaoh, and on all his house before our eyes. And he brought us out from there, that he might bring us in, to give us the land which he swore to our fathers. The Lord commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear the Lord our God, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive as at this day. It shall be righteousness to us, if we observe to do all this commandment before the Lord our God, as he has commanded us.

8:32Proverbs 25 These also are Proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah, King of Judah, copied out. It is the glory of God to conceal a thing, but the glory of kings is to search out a matter, as the heavens for height, and the earth for depth, so the hearts of kings are unsearchable. Take away the draws from the silver, and material comes out for the refiner. Take away the wicked from the king's presence, and his throne will be established in righteousness. Don't exalt yourself in the presence of the king, or claim a place among great men. For it is better that it be said to you, come up here, than that you should be put lower in the presence of the prince whom your eyes have seen. Don't be hasty in bringing charges to court. What will you do in the end when your neighbor shames you? Debate your case with your neighbor, and don't betray the confidence of another. Less one who hears it puts you to shame, and your bad reputation never depart.

9:34A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver. As a nearing of gold in an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover to an obedient ear. As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, so is a faithful messenger to those who send him, for he refreshes the soul of his masters. As clouds and wind without rain, so is he who boast of gifts deceptively. By patience a ruler is persuaded, a soft tongue breaks the bone. Have you found honey? Eat as much as is sufficient for you, lest you eat too much and vomit it. Let your foot be seldom in your neighbor's house, lest he be wary of you and hate you. A man who gives false testimony against his neighbor is like a club, a sword, or a sharp arrow. Confidence in someone unfaithful in time of trouble is like a bad tooth or a lame foot.

10:35Because one who takes away a garment and cold weather are vinegar on soda, so is one who sings songs to a heavy heart. If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat. If he is thirsty, give him water to drink, for you will heap coals of fire on his head, and Yahweh will reward you. The north wind brings forth rain, so a backbiting tongue brings an angry face. It is better to dwell in the corner of the house top than to share a house with a contentious woman, like cold water to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country. Like a muddied spring in a polluted well, so is a righteous man who gives way before the wicked. It is not good to eat much honey, nor is it honorable to seek one's own honor. Like a city that is broken down and without walls, is a man whose spirit is without restraint.

11:36Now when the day of Pentecost had come, they were all with one accord in one place. Suddenly there came from the sky a sound like the rushing of a mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. Tongues like fire appeared and were distributed to them, and one sat on each of them. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other languages as the Spirit gave them the ability to speak. Now they were dwelling in Jerusalem, Jews, devout men from every nation under the sky. When this sound was heard, the multitude came together and were bewildered because everyone heard them speaking in his own language. They were all amazed and marveled, saying to one another. Behold, aren't all these who speak Galileans? How do we hear everyone in our own native language? Ethiians, meads, ealomites, and people from Mesopotamia, Judea, Cappadocia, Pontus, Asia, Frigia, Bampilia, Egypt, the parts of Libya around Cyrene, visitors from Rome, Bojus and Prasalites, Creetans and Arabians. We hear them speaking in our languages the mighty works of God.

12:39They were all amazed and were perplexed, saying one to another, what does this mean? Others mocking said, they are filled with new wine. But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice and spoke out to them. You men of Judea and all you who dwell at Jerusalem, let this be known to you and listen to my words. For these aren't drunken as you suppose, seeing it is only the third hour of the day. But this is what has been spoken through the prophet Joel. It will be in the last day, says God, that I will pour out my spirit on all flesh. Your sons and your daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. Yes, and on my servants and on my handmaidens in those days, I will pour out my spirit and they will prophesy. I will show wonders in the sky above, and signs on the earth beneath, blood and fire and billows of smoke. The sun will be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and glorious day of the Lord comes. It will be that whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.

13:40Men of Israel hear these words. Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved by God to you by mighty works and wonders and signs which God did by him in the midst of you, even as you yourselves know, him, being delivered up by the determined counsel and foreknowledge of God, you have taken by the hand of lawless men, crucified and killed, whom God raised up, having freed him from the agony of death, because it was not possible that he should be held by it. For David says concerning him, I saw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved. Therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced, moreover my flesh also will dwell in hope, because you will not leave my soul in Hades, neither will you allow your holy one to see decay. You may known to me the ways of life. You will make me full of gladness with your presence. Brothers, I may tell you freely of the patriarch David, that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that of

14:41the fruit of his body, according to the flesh, he would raise up the Christ to sit on his throne. He foreseeing this spoke about the resurrection of the Christ, that neither was his soul left in Hades, nor did his flesh see decay. This Jesus God raised up, whereof we are all witnesses, being therefore exalted by the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this, which you now see in here. Your David did in a sin into the heavens, but he says himself, the Lord said to my Lord, sit by my right hand, until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet. Let all the house of Israel therefore know assuredly that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified. Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter in the rest of the apostles, brothers, what shall we do? Peter said to them, repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

15:41For to you is the promise and to your children, and to all who are far off, even as many as the Lord our God will call to Himself. With many other words he testified and exhorted them saying, save yourselves from this crooked generation. Then those who gladly received his word were baptized. They were added that day about three thousand souls. They continued steadfastly in the apostles' teaching and fellowship, in the breaking of bread and prayer. Fear came on every soul, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles. All who believed were together and had all things common. They sold their possessions and goods, and distributed them to all according as anyone had need. Day by day, continuing steadfastly with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread at home, they took their food with gladness and singleness of heart, praising God, and having favor with all the people. The Lord added to the assembly day by day those who were being saved.
