Day 248 Daily Morning Prayer “WHEN GOD QUIETLY OPENS A DOOR”

Got sometimes when one door closes. We expect the next door to look clear and wide open, organized, obvious. And often God, the space you open for us, looks nothing like what we expected. It may feel like a wilderness, wide open, unfamiliar, a land with many directions and no clear map. And we stand there wondering, what now, God, because leaving the old space does not always make the new space clear. Sometimes we leave jobs, friendships, relationships. Sometimes we leave environments that no longer honor who we were becoming.

1:03And even when we know the leaving was necessary, the next step is not always obvious, but God, you have a way of reminding us that the answer may not be as complicated as we think. Often the very thing we want to do in the last place is the very thing you're calling us to do here. The gifts we carry, the ideas we held, the work we longed to do, the dreams we were trying to nurture, they did not disappear. When that door closed, they simply needed a new space to live. And now God, here we are, in a new place where the critics are not standing, the blockers are not watching. The judgment is not hovering and the voices that try to make us small are no longer in the room. Now it is just you and us. So today God, we will do something simple.

2:05We will bring our gifts into this new space. We will sit down, we will start working. We will begin again, maybe slowly, maybe quietly. Maybe with nothing more than a small beginning, a thought, a sketch, a note, a first step, but we trust God that you will meet us in the work. You will meet us in the effort and you will meet us in the creation because when the noise is gone and the pressure has moved aside, the scrutiny has left the scene, we will discover something beautiful. You were here all along, waiting, encouraging, blessing the work of our hands. So today God, help us not to fear that open space. Help us not to doubt the quiet new beginnings.

3:07Help us not to question the door you have opened, instead give us the courage to sit down in the place you prepare and start building the life that was always meant to grow with you. Amen. Amen. When doors closing your face, God always has opened a brand new door before you that you could not yet see. But once you see the open door, God is open. Look through, not afraid, and even if you do, become afraid. Walk anyhow, trusting that God's got your back and God has your front. Amen. Now go out and have a marvelous day, just because you care.
