NT Health issued the alert Tuesday morning, telling people to use cooled boiled water or bottled water for drinking, cooking, baby formula, and brushing teeth. Power and water corporation also called for immediate conservation to ease the strain. Chief Minister Leah Fanokiyaro urged calm, saying there's no reason to panic. The acting head of power and water noted that safety systems worked as planned by shutting off the pumps to avoid damage. Engineers work through the night on fixes and boost its supply from rural bore fields to help Darwin and nearby areas. Pumps will stay offline until floodwaters drop and an interim plan is ready.
