Dan Morgan Leads New Charter School's Athletics

0:00On March 19th, a new public charter school in the Midlands is gearing up with a familiar face and charge of athletics. Dan Morgan, who coached football at Blythwood and Eastside, steps in as the first athletic director for American leadership Blythwood. The K-12 school opens for the 2026-27 year. Morgan built a solid record during his head coaching days with 47 wins against 26 losses. He led Eastside to 11 victories in his debut season there. Lately, he's been teaching at Westwood while assisting at Spring Valley, and he's set to begin his new role this month. This marks the second American Leadership Academy campus nearby, following the one in Lexington that launched in 2023-24. That site moved from junior varsity to full varsity sports, and even reached the class 2A Boys Basketball Lower State Championship this year. American Leadership, Blythwood, plans a junior varsity schedule in year 1 before going varsity. They haven't joined the South Carolina High School League yet, but their mascot will be the Guardians.

1:02The school bought land along U.S. Highway 21, right in Richland School District, two near Westwood High and Blythwood High. Expect an official announcement any day now, as this fresh program promises to shake up local sports with Morgan at the helm.
